Reviews for Chesapeake Boat Basin
Good Stop, 2016-10-23
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (282)

Stopped here 10/19/16: Convenient stop and not far off the Bay. Friendly staff and very clean facilities. Kilimarnock is a nice town to visit but is a couple miles from marina. Biking okay.

Good protection, but OMG the corn, 2016-10-13
Captain: , Tempe, AZ (210)

Stayed here to wait out Hurricane Mathew. Not true that the corn chaff blows off. Because there is wet morning dew with the half inch corn starch that blows on to your boat. we had to scrub this stuff off the decks. Clean bathroom and good showers here, but the lounge with the TV could seriously use some cleaning. Only Verizon cell phones work here. We had Sprint and TMobile with no connectivity. That was fine til the electricity and Internet went out. Read books.

Great Place to get off the bay, 2016-08-03
Captain: , Occoquan Harbour (65)

We stayed one night to escape the thunderstorms in the area. Great location, nice deep well marked channel. Dockmaster was fantastic, met us and ensured we had everything we needed. Offered use of courtesy car into town. Nice clean marina and as a side note probably some of the fatested WiFi we have seen. We will definately be back.

Second great stay, 2016-07-25
Captain: , Rockport, ON, Canada (265)

Just overnight but everything was excellent. No complaints at all.

Bay Landing, 2016-07-12
Captain: , Richmond (62)

We only use this marina to put our boat in. The boat launch is old and needs maintanence. Everytime I go either myself or someone else gets stuck as the launch is nothing but loose gravel. It's nearly the only public launch in fleets bay so I have to use it. There is also limited parking and tough to navigate larger boats down the ramp. The store is nice and is what you'd expect from any marina just the ramp and parking area needs work needs work.

Five stars deserved, 2016-06-24
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

Stopped here again 04-22-14 to wait for a weather window to head up the bay. Fformer review is still valid. I am very puzzled why more transients don't stop here. This is a great protected spot with a straight deep entrance extermely well marked. Floating docks with wide slips. This is about a 1.5 miles from Kalmarnock which is the largest town on the Northern Neck. Reedville, Deltaville can't touch it and this marina still offers use of the best courtsey van we've found. George again made the stay great and gave a day free every 2 and working out a special week rate (certainly depends on demand). They have the best courtsey vehicle I've ever seen a very nice Honda Oddessy which we used to explore the wonderfull Northern neck area. This is almost full service yard lacking only a travel lift for hauling large boats and laundry room but they can not get approval from county. The the town does has a laundrymat. The only real draw back is the adjacent grain silos to process(dry) corn and load into barges. This process generates noise and a fine fly chaff that can land on the boat with wind direction to boat. During the fall corn picking season (fall) the silo runs 24hrs except weekends. To combat this chaff on boats the marina has an employee who will regularily hose off any boat in need or requesting the service to include any transient prior to it's departure at no cost. I recommend this marina without reservation and will be back. Back on 5-28-16 same prior review still staNDS.

The Only Option In The Area and a Good One., 2016-06-19
Captain: , Richmond (223)

The Chesapeake Boat Basin is 3 miles up Indian Creek from Fleets Bay. Their salt water pool is small but well tended, and the captain's lounge is roomy. Bathrooms are clean and comfortable. George, the dock master is very hepful and professional, and the loaner car is a clean well maintained Honda Minivan. The marina is small and not busy, and the floating docks available to transients are welcome if a bit pricey at $1.75/ft. The fuel dock is somewhat hidden, but keep the floating docks on your starboard then turn to starboard at your first opportunity then straight in and they'll be on your port side. The Perdue Grain facility next door is a bit noisy when operating as mentioned. Kilmarnock is just 1.8 miles away along a straight low speed limit road that is easily biked. which the marina keeps handy as well. There is a smattering of restaurants and local shops in the historic Steptoe District worth visiting. We opted to stop by Northern Neck Burgers, and weren't disappointed with the food even if the atmosphere is a bit sloud and partan.

Excellent, 2015-11-03
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (110)

Creat help from George. Came in on Saturday evening and had some engine problems. George was able to direct me to a mechanic who soldve the problem. He was extremely helpful. Marina had a loner van which we used to get groceries and parts. Will definitely be going back next Spring upon our return

Great Marina, great mechanical assistance, 2015-11-01
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (210)

We intended to anchor near CBB and use their dinghy dock but a mechanical issue changed our minds. We stayed 4 nights and George the dock-master was very helpful is getting us needed parts. Justin their mechanic helped me install the parts after the marina loaned me their car to pick up the parts. We also were able to go to a nearby Walmart. No laundry facilities but a laundry mat is nearby but requires the use of the marina loaner car. On arrival CBB was hosting a Clam fest and the food was great. Highly recommend.

Mercury Service/ Dealership, 2015-10-22
Captain: , Dartmouth, UK (60)

I can't rate the service at CBB through Ariel and the team highly enough.
Daily updates and assistance which made a potentially stressful situation a breeze.
A completely professional and conscientious boat yard. Thank you all for your help and service.
Would not hesitate to recommend your boat works.

Nice Marina, 2015-09-11
Captain: , Washington,DC (83)

The facilities are good. The floating dock for transients is well maintaned and the heads/showers are relatively clean. The dockmaster is very helpful. The facility is next door to an grainary for Perdue which is extremely noisy when operating. Since this is now harvest season for the feed corn, the plant is in full operation during the day and the marina is not peaceful. They operated on Saturday of Labor Day weekend but not on Sunday. They started back up at 0700 on monday (Labor Day). Recommend you consider the season and perhaps inquire at the marina if it is harvest time.

Chesapeake Boat Basin, 2015-09-09
Captain: , Galesville, MD (60)

George Jackson is running a terrific marina. I had to put in there for four days as my wife had an arm infection and was in the hospital in Kilmarnock (great treatment there by the way). I initially was anchored in Pittman Cove but decided to use CBB as I waited for her to get well. George had a large group coming in and initially thought he'd have to move me or kick me out but worked his magic to let me stay on a good pier, into the wind. Nice facility, clean, very accomdating people. I will definitely stay there anytime I'm in the area.

Great place to stop, 2015-08-25
Captain: , Crisfield, MD (70)

A solid 4 stars, maybe even 4.5. It's not a glitzy $10 million resort, but a really nice place to spend a few days. The owner and staff are very friendly and accommadating and will do anything reasonable for you. The bath facilities and lounge are showing some age but are kept spotless, as is the cute little swimming pool. Transients usually stay on the new floating docks which are immaculate as well. In fact, the whole facility is neat and clean. Kilmarnock is 1.5 miles up the hill and is a must to visit, with numerous restaurants and shops. A courtesy van is provided to make thing easier. Summer weekends can get a bit rolly as the locals run up and down Indian Creek at full throttle and have no idea what a No Wake Zone is. I would highly recommend this marina.

Great Marina, 2015-08-03
Captain: , Richmond, VA (79)

We stopped over for a night at Chesapeake Boat Basin on our way to Solomon's Island and were very happy with our choice. We called in to the marina as we entered the creek and were met at the dock by the dockmaster who helped with our lines and electric. Once we got settled in, we checked in and were given a small welcome packet with a map to the town and some recomendations for restaurants. The courtesy van was geeat for running into town to pick up some dinner. We highly reccomend this marina, we will definately be back.

Clean and quiet, 2015-06-10
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (107)

Clean facilities and nice floating docks. Quiet location. Navigation was very easy. I would have given them 5 stars, but we could not get wifi connected on any of our devices. The young lady in the office (she seemed to be the only one working the day we were there) was not able to help beyond asking if we put the password in correctly. There did not seem to be any dockhands either, though we were fine without them. Nevertheless, nice marina and I'm sure we'll try it again.

Beautiful Setting-Nice Facility, 2015-06-03
Captain: , Sarasota, FL (60)

We really enjoyed our stay! Marina has it all; floating docks, clean restrooms, pool, nice courtesy car, great town down the road, and a
very knowledgeable staff. We were here 10 days due to weather. Every third day is free so the price is very reasonable. We needed a part and it was ordered and arrived the next morning. The harbor is well protected and very scenic! One not to miss.

Perfect Layover, 2015-01-15
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (404)

If you are looking for a very convenient stopover when transiting the Bay, this is it. We visited in January when headed South and were very happy with the docks and assistance. George gave us all the information we needed and the complimentary use of a van to visit Kilmarnock. Very nice bathrooms, loaner bikes and lots of good shopping and dining in town. Don't miss Thai Pot for a really delicious meal. Grocery store in town is also great. A very nice wine shop and a pharmacy on Main St.

An Unknown Gem, 2014-10-17
Captain: , Castine, Maine (2964)

We have passed right by this marina at least a dozen times without a thought. Looking at all the great reviews we decided it was time to give them a try. We were not disappointed. They have new floating transient docks that made it easy to get our four-footed crew on and off for a walk. The facilities are wonderful as is the staff. George came in on his day off to help secure us. We had planned on staying two days but high winds made it four and we felt safe and secure tied to the floating dock. They have a nice courtesy van that we took into Kilmarnock for groceries and dinner - Good Fortune had some of the best Chinese food we've had. This is a stop we will definitely be coming back to again and again.

great location, great protection, 2014-09-21
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (280)

this is a recently upgraded marina. Nice floating docks in an attractive small bay. this is a great place to wait out a storm. It is also conveniently located for a transit of the Bay. Bicycles and a courtesy car are provided. the courtesy car was a recent model Honda minivan. the showers and pool are clean and well maintained. Wifi was accessible without a booster from the outer docks. Cell phone signal was adequate. The owners and staff were excellent. Good shopping available in the nearby town. This is now a must stop for us.

Accomodating, 2014-09-03
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (180)

We anchored NE of the grain silos and used the tender dock at the marina. We asked the attendant if we could rent a bike for our daughter who was traveling with us. The gentleman said they don't rent the bikes, they are loners for slip holders, but if we paid the tender docking fee we could go ahead and use a bike for the morning. Very accomodating. This was our second visit and we will be back again.

Pleasent Surprise!!, 2014-09-03
Captain: , New Rochelle, NY (1000)

Can't figure out how I've missed this place in almost 10 years of going up and down the East Coast. Stopped here to meet up with some cruising buddies. We stayed a week and had a great time. The staff is most helpful and the courtesy van is a huge plus.

Gem Off the Beaten Path, 2014-08-02
Captain: , Norfolk Virginia (469)

Visited as want to enjoy some time in Kilmarnock. What makes this marina is the staff and "locals". More than one person in the marina recognized us as visitors and went out of their way to be friendly as well as source of local knowledge. Floating docks are well maintained with wide berths. Facilities are not new but was impressed with neatness and cleanliness. Everything said below about George and his staff are right on the money. Because this was our first visit, we were given a tour of all the facilities and demonstrated how everything worked in addition to the Welcome Packet (and everything really does work exactly as advertised). Minor drawback is operating grain mill adjacent to the property but quickly blends into the background noise. Definitely going back. Courtesy car available for short run to Kilmarnock which provides options for provisioning as well as other types of shopping.

Nice marina except..., 2014-07-15
Captain: , Patuxent River, MD (387)

...have to take away one star due to the grain loading facility right next door. That operation starts up at 0700 and ran until 2000 both nights we stayed there. It is a bit noisy. As for the marina, nice little pool, clean showers/heads and a great staff. Great loaner vehicle as others have mentioned. The nearby town is well worth a visit, and there are many creeks to explore via dinghy.

Fine service in a great town, 2014-06-01
Captain: , St Paul, MN (180)

Docked there just one night but were given help, answered questions and offered additional insights to Killmarnock that proved very interesting. Assisted with docking, pump-out and departure. Very comfortable courtesy car allowed us to have dinner in Irvington. Will visit again.

Friendly and comfortable, 2014-05-28
Captain: , Stafford, VA (1063)

This is a nice stop. The staff and slipholders are very friendly and helpful - you will be invited to whatever event they are having while you are there. Town is about 1 1/2 miles straight down the road, with a bit of a hill right before you get there. Easily manageable on a bike though and a fun ride back. Access from the bay is very easy and deep. Nights are very quiet with a great view of the stars.

Friendly, clean, reasonable rates, 2014-05-02
Captain: , Galesville, MD (192)

And a loaner car to boot! We stayed for 2 nights here. We were greeted and helped at the floating pier by friendly staff. Electricity, wi-fi and water were all provided (a little extra for the electric, I think $5). We were given keys to a loaner car, access to the "Captains lounge" with books, tv, tables. Nice nice clean showers and toilets. A decent ship's store, and a repair shop.

Very nice marina, 2014-03-22
Captain: , Virginia (50)

Stopped in on a weekend sail up the bay. They were very helpful in docking and leaving. The store is small, but has some item you might need. Seems to be more for fishermen than sailors. Offered use of the van, but we really had no need.
We will be back.

Glad they are here!, 2013-09-26
Captain: , New Castle, NH PGI, Florida (300)

I actually anchored over in Pittman Cove last night, and never made it over to this marina. However, as I was leaving this morning, my engine overheated. Dropped the hook just outside the channel between markers 11 & 12 in sight of Ches Boat Basin. They called the local Boat US for me and once I was at the dock, the service manager, Clay, arranged for a tech to look at the engine about an hour later. Turned out to be a small leak in the heat exchanger, and Clay first tried to solder it, then patched it with marine tex (?) and I'll be stuck here until tomorrow morning before the stuff has set/dried/bonded, but they'll put it back on at 8 am. So assuming the patch holds until we can do a more permanent fix, I think they've done their best for me. In the meantime, the lounge has Direct TV, the showers are nice and clean, I borrowed a bike to ride into town for lunch, and they've offered me the use of their van if I want to do provisioning/laundry tonight. The only downside to this marina is the grain silo operation right next door! I was told they only operate a few weeks out of the year, but when they do, it's 24/7 and quite loud. You might want to check that out before coming in. I'm pretty sensitive to noise, so if you're not, you'd probably be fine once you've closed your boat up for the night. The pool looks nice, and it's still open (unheated). The people are very friendly and accomodating. I will update this review once I get the bill and see how the repair holds! Sigh.

what more could you want!, 2013-09-24
Captain: , Portsmouth, RI (260)

George met us on arrival and helped us into a great slip at a new floating dock super clean bathrooms. Loaner car, three grocery stores great restaurants, beautiful town with lots of shops. Take advantage of stay two nights get the third free. Purdue feed processing plant running next door could be an issue with running machinery.

Great place to stop, 2013-09-19
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (152)

Overnighted here on August 15th along with another boat traveling with us. Easy access from the bay up beautiful Indian Creek. Fuel dock is easy in/easy out. Great floating docks for transients. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Well protected from weather from all points. Generous use of their minivan as we were the only transients. Did not even want us to put gas in it. We did anyhow since we used it at night to go to town for dinner and the next day for shopping.

Looking forward to our next visit.

We will be back!!!, 2013-09-06
Captain: , Seaford, VA (783)

Very nice, clean marina. I won't repeat the other reviews, but agree with all the positive comments. Transient floating docks are nice. Fuel dock and pump out are easily accessible. Very well protected with no wind or current complications to deal with.

A truly outstanding gem., 2013-08-20
Captain: , Gulfport, MS (321)

We took an alongside slip on 16 Aug 13, intending to stay only one night and part of the next day - we ended up staying 3, partially due to weather, but mostly because it was such a great place. George met us at the slip to take lines and help get us squared away. No depth issues, good protection, and good views.

The facilities are very nice. Once again, no laundry (not the marina's fault, it has to do with compliance with the Chesapeake Bay Act and being on city vs local water/sewer systems). However, because we had full use of the courtesy car, we were able to do laundry at the laundromat in Kilmarnock, in addition to reprovisioning.

Although we didn't take on fuel, it appears the fuel dock is fairly easy to get in and out of, even for single engine sailboats and trawlers.

This rates as one of the friendliest places we have been so far. We plan to stop in again on our return trip.

Great Place For A Rendezvous, 2013-08-13
Captain: , Washington, DC (149)

We had about 10 trawlers come in for a rendezvous July 31 and the staff was terrific in handling our lines and making us feel welcome. The lounge and deck were perfect for our gatherings. Ships store was adequate. A courtesy van was available and took four of us for a round of golf at King Carter GC. Kilmarnock is still economically vibrant, but too far to walk. Take the courtesy car or trolley.

Westmoreland Boating Club Visit July 2013, 2013-07-23
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (590)

Great place. We had 7 boats on Chesapeake Bay boat trip and stopped in. Great service and facilities. They have courtesy van to let you get into Kilmarnock, a small Northern Neck Town that is great to viisit. Will come back. Of special note, one of our boatets had electrical problem. Owner worked hard and suceeded in fixing issue and did not charge for hours work. Can't beat that.

Great marina in a nice location, 2013-07-22
Captain: , Austin, TX (346)

Great new floating docks for transients. Price is reasonable and when we were there in June they were offering a third night free during the week. We took advantage of this offer as we and several other boats sat out a storm. The ships store has a good stock of marine supplies which I took advantage of this time and on a previous visit. George the dockmaster is very helpful. Good restrooms and showers. Nice cruisers lounge and a good pool. Loaner car which we used to get to restaurants and shopping in Kilmarnock. Kilmarnock has a surprisingly good downtown area for a town of its size. Fuel and pumpout available. There is a trolly that runs between Kilmarnnock, Irvington and White Stone on the weekends and stops at the marina.

Great Marina with a sketchy launch ramp., 2013-07-08
Captain: , Smith Mountain Lake (495)

I trailored my Balboa 26 to this Marina for a four day weekend July 4th. It is a nice small marina with excelent docks, gas, chandlery and mechanic, pool, bath house and lounge. The people are great etc.

I'm knocking it down one star because I'm rating this from the persepctive of a TRAILER SAILER. The ramp has a power line over it so you have to get close (read on the slope) before you raise the mast. Parking is limited so the other people park on either side of the ramp... so you are blocking everyone in while you set up your boat... and the ramp itself is in need of repairs. The concrete slab is broken and there is a large drop off on the edge (miss the edge of the ramp... lose a tire) and once in the water the ramp is gravel. I managed to get my boat in the wate and I had a great weekend but I'll look for a place with a better ramp next time. If you are coming from the water... this is a nice quite 5-star marina. If you are wanting to launch a larger boat and especially a sailbot... the ramp should be considered a negative....IMHO!

Visit at the end of May 2013, 2013-06-18
Captain: , Hampton Virginia (20)

Very good marina, helpful friendly staff. Floating docks, very clean bath facilities. Loan of a van provided. Trolly service to the surrounding towns provided for $.25 each way. Water depth entering was over ten feet. Good protection from most weather directions.

Great place to sit out bad weather, 2013-06-11
Captain: , Houston TX (348)

We stopped here twice during June. Our aircard failed and we needed a place to have one sent. Spent three days working through issues with ATT. The day after we left, TD Andrea set her sights on the east coast and we called George the harbormaster to see if he could come back for the storm. He was able to move some reservations around so that we could use one of the larger, floating, east / west slips. The marina is a great place to stay. Bathrooms are clean and modern, nice pool and club house. The loaner car is one of the best we have ever seen. It was clean, well maintained and everything worked. George and his folks will do what ever it takes to help with you with what you need. Will certainly stop here again.

Great spot..., 2013-06-10
Captain: , North Carolina (344)

Nice marina. Dock guy, George, is awesome and very helpful Pool and loaner car available. Clean facilities. Lots of ospreys around and very scenic area. This is a much nicer area than Deltaville.

Great Home Port, 2013-06-07
Captain: , Chesepeake Boat Basin, Indian Creek, Va (71)

This is our second year at CBB, we moved up from Deltaville after 23 years there. The docks are in great shape, the owners and staff are really nice folks, George is the go to guy for local knowledge. The easy deep water approach means we can usually sail "Joss" right outside our slip. The marina is very well protected, I stayed aboard at the dock for Sandy last year and the docks were rock solid. The pool, clubhouse and heads are all very well maintained. If you're tired of "factory marina attitude", this is the place to come.

Kilmarnock has good shopping for supplies, gift shops and many really good places to eat in or take out. We enjoy hanging out in the marina with some good take-out the night before we head out. Fleets Bay has so many great anchorages it's pretty easy to find a place to sail to without alot of windward work. My favorite is Little Bay, best beach and social spot on the bay, and lots of places to go exploring.

Our new favorite, 2013-06-03
Captain: , Muskego, WI (20)

We crusie the Bay extensively, motly anchoring, but occasionally take a slip. When in this area, our favorite used to be Point Lookout in the Potomac--but no more! We just found Chesapeake Boat Basin, and this hidden gem has now taken "Top Spot" in our choice of marinas. Deep water, easy approach, good protection, floating docks, very reasonable pricing, a great pool, incredibly friendly and helpful dockmaster, free bikes to ride into town (even a free car!), pumpout, gas, diesel--and toss in a "really cute little town" (in the words of the First Mate), and you have a recipe for a great stopover. We'll definitely be back!!

Great Little Marina, 2013-06-01
Captain: , Kings Creek Marina (736)

My wife and I, along with the famous Bob Smith, hosted the first Southern Bay Cruisers get together at this facility. The staff treated us like important people. The club house and all facilities are first class. Well sheltered from all wind and weather but the narrowest window to the south-east. Nice docks, nice people, nice prices. What else are you looking for? Additionally, as of May 30, 2013, The Chesapeake Boat Basin is one of our very favorites. Not just for the beautiful scenery and easy approach, and not just for the protected slips and comfortable accommodations. As with most marinas, it%u2019s the staff that makes the difference, and the Harbormaster, George, is what keeps us coming back to Kilmarnock again and again. He is well known for his friendly attitude and local knowledge. Coming in a little late? He%u2019ll give you his cell phone number, and will meet you at the dock within just a couple of minutes. This is also the annual meeting spot for the MTOA %u2013 Southern Chesapeake Bay Cruisers, and with good reason. Additionally, if your Ford %u2013 Lehman ever lets go, Bob Smith & Son is just up the road.

Great stopover, 2013-06-01

Spent three nights here and was very pleased. Needed some minor repair work done and Jonathan the service manager was able to squeeze us in on Saturday morning. Dock master George is a great host, very helpful and attentive. Courtesy car was very convenient and well used. Real nice facilities and easy in and out. Laundry would be a good add.

We got blown in here by bad weather in the Chesapeake.
Great service, super location midway between Mile 0 in Norfolk and Annapolis.
Modern Honda minivan loaner car, salt water swimming pool.
This will surely replace Soloman's Island as the halfway stop in the area.
George runs a truly professional operation!

excellent marina , 2013-05-24

This is an excellent stop. Service is great, prices are right , and a pretty location.
A courtesy car is available, and
An excellent restaurant is nearby. We would definitely stop again.

Great Marina with a Super Dockmaster but no Laundry, 2013-05-18
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (323)

If Chesapeake Boat Basin had laundry facilities, we would give it a 5. George is friendly and helpful, and the prices are good, but those (like us) who are staying for a while must go to the only laundromat in town, and it's expensive and not the best. Still, Kilmarnock is a charming town. Try Specials wine store and bakery - great, knowledgeable staff and a free wine tasting every Friday evening at 5. Car Wash Cafe great for breakfast or lunch. Trolley runs on the weekends into "downtown" Kilmarnock, White Stone, and Irvington, each with delightful shops and restaurants. (Try River Market in White Stone for delicious take out.)

Terrific Spot, 2013-05-12
Captain: , Port Royal, SC (231)

Entered the wide and deep channel to Chesapeake Boat Basin and found a nice quiet floating dock; good fuel prices; low dockage price (off season) and a very ample ship's store with lots of need to have boating supplies. Nice facility, to include a pool and courtesy car.

Can't say enough good, 2013-01-30
Captain: , Pensacola, Fl. (136)

I can't say enough good about this place. George was a great help to us newbies. All the ammenities were in great shape and warm. It was well worth the trip up the river. We spent the weekend there and had free use of the van both days. Thanks George

Much better than expected!, 2012-11-07
Captain: , Woodbridge (278)

A great little out of the way place. Floating docks are almost brand new and were a welcome change after two weeks on and off fixed. Staff was great to work with and accommodated a group on a short notice. Used the Van to run into town for some quick supplies..

Great marina!, 2012-10-25
Captain: , Mystic, CT (270)

We have stayed here several times over the last few years traveling north and south on the east coast. We have friends nearby so this marina is a perfect location for us. The staff is very friendly, the bathrooms are spotless, and the price in the fall is very reasonable. They have a loaner van that we used for a big shop at the nearby Super Walmart. Also, there are a few great restaurants in Kilmarnock - a nice little town.

Comfortable Friendly Accomodating, 2012-10-21

CBB has easy access in the well sheltered Indian Creek. Fuel, water, ice, repair, ships store are all available. Courtesy vehicle and bicycles available for short trip into Kilmarnock, VA. Bath house provides private shower stalls. There is a sailors lounge with satelitte TV. A pleasnt place to stop.

Nice marina and Winery near by, 2012-10-17
Captain: , Virginia Beach (56)

We found the marina to be very nice with new floating slips. We also enjoyed wine tasting at the Good Luck Cellers Winery about 5 miles away (1025 Goodluck Rd. 804-435-1416)

Nice Marina, 2012-10-09
Captain: , Rock Hall, Md (230)

Despite despairing forecasts, we attempted to cruise south from Indian Creek only to have to turn back. CBB was a welcome site. Nice, friendly service. The floating docks are new. We borrowed bikes and rode into town. What a nice surprise. Loved the town. Upscale stores and nice restaurants. Town was 1.75 miles from the marina.

Outstanding service, 2012-09-18
Captain: , Herrington Harbour South, MD (202)

We were very impressed by the reception at the new floating docks and the overall condition of the marina. The staff gladly provided the loaner van to drive to Deltaville to pick up an impeller that had gone south, and in general seemed more than happy to bend over backwards to make things work. The only downside, as mentioned in other reviews, is the proximity of the soybean loading facility. For anchoring out, a good alternative is to head up Indian Creek to starboard about 1/2 mile where the holding is good and the traffic minimal.

Captain: , Kent Narrows, MD (200)

CBB lived up to its high ratings for our two night stay; free loaner bikes and loaner van for shopping and out to dinner. WIFI is secure. Floating docks are very new. Heads are clean. We did not do any repairs but experienced the good hospitality of George and his staff. Only drawback was the Purdue chicken feed storage plant next door dropping fne particles of feed on the boat; a small price to pay for the fine facilities and helpful service.

Nice Place, 2012-08-25
Captain: , Lottsburg, Va (264)

We were also here for the MTOA gathering and agree with Jim's comments below. Quiet unassuming marina with a nice pool. The Captain's Lounge could use AC. The staff was attentive and friendly. Kilmarnock is about a mile up the road and if you don't use the courtsey car there is a trolly that services the marina.

Nice place to stop, 2012-08-14
Captain: , Clear Lake, TX (694)

Stopped here for a weekend MTOA Southern Cesapeake Cruisers get together. Most items were excellent. Dock master available and attentive to needs, decent showers & heads, docks were fine and electic outlets very good & clean. Pool was fine. One slight complaint is the boaters lounge is very nice with a large TV w/ cable, microwave & lending library and plenty of seating and tables. However at 90 plus degrees temperature there is NO air conditioning. Another plus is a group courtesy van available for transients. It runs well and has character (no AC, Pwr WIndows,) but takes you grocery shopping or to dinner at one of the fine local restaurants. There are also fine anchorages nearby.

Very nice!, 2012-08-07
Captain: , Montreal, PQ, Canada (560)

Perfect floating docks and clean amenities. Cool design pool, and small (powerboats only) boatyard adjacent with parts shop. The river is deep all the way in and maintained for barge traffic to grainery.

A little far to walk to town, but they have a curtesy van to loan. Also, shuttle bus to town on weekends. Bikes are also available.

Great unplanned stop, 2012-07-17
Captain: , Richardson, TX (552)

We were anchored in Pitman's Cove around the corner for 2 nights and were having battery/inverter problems so called CBB and they were able to accommodate us. George is extremely friendly and helpful, made us feel right at home. New floating docks are in great shape; we're tied up at the fixed dock but it's closer to the rest rooms which are air conditioned and clean. Very well maintained marina with a lounge and pool and it's a pretty area. It is a 1.8 ml walk to Kilmarnock (30 min) but with bikes, loaner van and trolleys (.25 round trip Fri, Sat, Sun) for transportation, getting in to town is not a problem. Since we'll be here a week it's handy that we were able to take advantage of a special on dockage so replacing our house batteries won't be quite SO painful! Nice place to be "stranded".

Clean well maintained docks. 1.2 mi walk to Kilmarnock. Owner?/manager George very obliging; lends courtesy car, van. Plenty shopping Kilmarnock incl upscale siupermarket, Wal Mart, restaurants etc. Stop at local free museum. Other slipholders friendly. ADDENDUM JUNE 24,2012- We planned to stop here again on Sunday 6/23. When I made the reservation on Saturday, George gave me his home phone number so I could phone him and he would drive to marina and help us tie up. As events transpired, it was impossible for us to get there on Sunday but this outfit (and George) are remarkably customer-oriented. Fuel price reasonable also.

Wonderful people and a very nice little town, 2012-05-23
Captain: , Key West, FL (748)

George, the dockmaster, is an incredibly conscientious person; and this place is run with customer satisfaction high on the agenda. The town is about 1.6 miles from the dock, making a nice distance for a little walk or run. The road is nearly deserted as it passes in a nearly straight line to Main Street. If you would rather ride, the marina will lend you their very nice pickup truck. If you decide to be a good citizen and put fuel in it, make sure you use diesel (as, though it is a very quiet engine, it is a diesel!). Don't ask me how I know.

Great place!!!!, 2012-02-12
Captain: , Oriental, NC (40)

George was exceptionally helpfull, one of the nicest gentlemen I have ever met! Very nice floating docks. We came in right at his normal closing time, but George was happy to stay and make sure that we were taken care of. Filled us up with gas before he left too. Used his courtesy car (actually it was a big deisel pickup, very nice too) to go over to KC's for their Prime Rib night. Relaxed and warmed up in the captains lounge before heading back out to the boat.

George was excellent. He came down late on a Sunday to help us tie up. It is a bit of a trip up the river but well worth the effort. The docks are new and the facility is in great shape

Good area to visit, 2011-09-29
Captain: , Mattituck, NY. (371)

This is an MTOA Marina. They have a loaner car, or you can walk to the stores, about 1 mile. Lots of stores to check out. New floating docks, clean bathrooms, lounge for TV watching. Dock master very pleasant and helpful.

First time in CBB, 2011-07-25
Captain: , Deale, Maryland (45)

High winds on the nose drove me off the Bay in search of a marina. Chesapeake Boat Basin is a gem tucked back up Indian Creek off Fleets Bay. A bit of a trip up a well marked chanel brings you to the marina with new floating docks. Fuel and pumpout available and helpful staff will settle you in. Smallish but nice pool, clean heads, and a captain's lounge round out the aminities. It is mile and half into town and on a loaner bike is a bit of challenge the last bit because of a hill. But the return trip is easy. There is grocery store close by, I didn't make it out to the Walmart. I had dinner at a rib place next to the store. Would rate it a "C" as far as restaurants go.

I liked CBB so much that it was my destination when coming back up the Bay. This time I used the loaner car to go out to KC's Crabshack for steamed crabs I brought back to the boat. Again staff helpful in providing directions and information. I wil stop there again. My only reason for 4 starts instead of 5 was the distance to town. Bikes and loaner car help and there is a trolley that runs on weekends with 25 cent rides.

Warning! If you wish to anchor on Indian Creek be sure to go to Pitmans Cove just before the marina and display proper lights. The night before I arrive an anchored sailboat had been run down by a fishing boat returning late. Last I heard the sail boat crew were OK but the fisherman was in serious condition.

Great Marina For A Group Function, 2011-06-29
Captain: , Norfolk, VA, USA (165)

We had a large group of approximately 15 boats and several land yachts converge on the marina from Norfolk and Solomons Island on Friday June 24, 2011. The marina manager was very accomodating and we had a group dinner in the clubhouse. The pool was a great gathering place to cool down. Will return

Week Long Stay Both Visits, 2010-08-29
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1380)

Thie new floating docks, swimming pool, Captains Lounge and access to the Super WAlMart via their courtesy van are great. The very friendly staff are courteous and professional and just go the extra mile in everthing they do. You have to visit them to appreciate all that they have here to make yourYisit a pleasant one. We spent 8 days here and will be back. We came back for a second week stay in June and continued to ejoy this nice marina and what it has to offer. This has got to be the best location in the Rappahamock area. M/Y ALLEZ!

Great little marina., 2010-06-22
Captain: , Havre de Grace, MD (299)

New floating docks. Easy access and helpful dockhands. All personnel very friendly and helpful. Other slipholders friendly and helpful to transients.

There is a trolley that picks up at the marina on Friday and Saturday and makes numerous stops (including Food Lion and Super Wal-Mart). Cost is $0.25 each time you board.

I have had a slip here since 2002. Over that time the owners have done a great deal to upgrade the facilities. New restrooms, docks, additional docks this year (2010) and also this year a new pool. Staff is friendly and helpful. A great marina. My only wish would be for better car parking.

Kilmarnock is worth a stop, 2009-09-28
Captain: , Cruising (3259)

Kilmarnock is a nice little town with some interesting shops and restaurants. It's a little far from the marina - about 1 3/4 miles, but it's straight up the road and everything is close to the center of town. There is a Walmart farther north on Rt. 3 - the road is busy but wide and is okay to bike.
The marina is pretty basic, though they have a good little marine store. We called earlier in the week asking about dinghy access, and they suddenly instituted a brand-new policy of charging $5 to tie up a dinghy. It's very small with only one or two face docks for bigger boats, but the area is very pretty and we enjoyed our time there.
NOTE: There is an uncharted green navaid close to the marina that is out of place - it is much too close to the northern shore. The marina has requested that it be relocated - in the meantime trust your chart more than the uncharted mark.
