Additional info:

Approach

The deepest part of the entrance to the basin is to the east (50-75' off the point). Bottom is soft silt and it is likely that a 6' draft vessel, even at mid-tide will have to 'plow through'.

The bight was dredged in 2010, and the entrance seems to be consistently 10' or deeper all the way across as of 8/17/2011.

Reviews for Chesapeake Anchorage Marina
Disappointing, 2015-08-24
Captain: , Oriental, NC (231)

We telephoned two days in advance for a reservation, gave them complete vessel details and were assured we had a slip reserved. Then, shortly before our arrival of 18 June 2015, they called to say that they could not accommodate a vessel with a six-foot draft. Needless to say we were disappointed since we were in need of a night at a dock. But we anchored with no problems and ended up staying two nigts because the Conrail lift bridge on the canal was stuck closed until midday.

Wish they answered Radio or phone (see 2015 update) below), 2015-03-18

"Very angry! Called and Called no answer. Arrived to find two small boats tied to free dock with no room for our 42. Docked at Chesapeke INN ($2.25) for a place to hang out for the current. No sooner paid e dock fees then the two yahoos left the %^$^& dock open!!! Oh Well this is not a bad hang out nice town to vist and were out of the rain."

Re-wtite after some confusion from the above comments.
My review was a bit confusing. In the review above I actually cited all three 'docks'. The Chesapeake Anchorage Marina did not answer the radio nor could we raise anyone at the dock. The Chesapeake City Floating Docks were occupied by two small boats using up th entire frontage. We did not want to float around in a shallow anchorage hoping for a dock so we opted to go to the Chesapeake Inn Dock and Restrurant facility. We paid our top dollar dock fee($2.25) and then moments later watched the two yahoo's motor away from the FREE city dock. SO after paying almost $100.00 the city dock sat empty across from us for about twenty minutes beging for free tenants!!! Soon two GB trawlers arrived and filled the vacancy --wish it had been us. Chesapeake City is quite and cuite we have stopped there before to wait for the current in the C&D to be favorable. However local knowledge has taught us that the major portion of the trip is down the Delaware and the current flow there is what you should base your C&D travel on. The C&D is only a few miles as compaired to the trip down to Cape May against a flood tide in a slow 7-8 kt. boat.

Nice place to stay ? Marty was there to help us tie up and he is friendly and super helpful. Since this is past the Inn, there was no problem with the wakes from other boats. Short walk to restaurants and the waterfront park where a Bluegrass festival was being held that day. Would definitely stay here again.

Thank You Marty & Active Captain, 2013-06-01
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (477)

We were planning to tie up overnight at Chesapeake Inn until I read the reviews. Great decision!
Called Dockmaster Marty the day before our arrival and made arrangements. He called me when we were a few hours out to finalize.
Came into the basin on a rising mid-tide which carried our Swift Trawler 44 a bit east of center I saw 4.5' on the sounder. Didn't ground but next time I'll keep west of center.
Marty and Tom (local character on vessel "Hog Wild" at CAM) met us on F dock where they were of great cheer and assistance.
Bayard's for lunch was great-right on the canal. First class restaurant but casual attire was welcomed. Nice town. Felt safe. Only 1 Shower/restroom but newly renovated & nice. Small marina.
Make sure you specify shorepower needs as 50 amp is limited. Also, conditions do occur where tide goes prohibitively low. We'll definitely return! BTW, Tom raved about the food at Schaffers across the canal.

Hid from Sandy here, great place, nice folks, 2012-11-08
Captain: , Jamestown, RI (42)

We planned to anchor during Hurricane Sandy when Marty proposed that we would be better off on his dock - how true! Well worth the cost. Stayed 3 days, all turned out well. We'll come back on other runs through the canal.

Captain: , Mystic, Ct (279)

Called Friday and we were able to tie up to the of F dock. Very reasonable at 2.00 per foot plus 10.00 for electric The owner met us and helped tie up and give us a key for the bathroom. Everyone was really pleasent. Nice place to stop before moving on.

Quiet and secure ancarage, 2011-10-14

Quiet alternative at a great stop-over, 2011-08-22
Captain: , Londontowne, MD (470)

Marty and Kenny were both very friendly, very helpful throughout our 2-day visit. The two docks (F and G) are designed for smaller vessels than ours, and depth at low tide would have been an issue, but wind was calm and current wasn't an issue in the basin... so Marty made it work for us. A slipholder was out traveling, so Marty was able to offer that slip for a couple days (we saw only one other empty slip; our length in that slip would have blocked the fairway). Our Marinco Reverse Y (subsequently re-tested and found to be working properly at our home marina) wouldn't light up to provide 50a/250v service , but Marty was able to sort out a temporary swap solution... since the neighbor boat using our pedestal was using a 50-amp circuit split to twin 30s. This marina is quieter than the Chesapeake Inn next door, and especially useful for pet owners because at the Inn, dogs must wade through the crowd at the bar or restaurant to get off the docks.

Great Job, Marty, 2009-08-01

Marty is a great asset at the marina. Got us in for 2 weeks, very reasonable. Nice floating docks, no problems what so ever. Security lock on gate to get in and out.

Captain: , fairland (2653)

Marty is great. Small place. Few transient docks. Entrance from canal has maybe 4.5 feet at MLW Current can get tricky. All told, if there is space at the city dock, take it. The only you miss is the single stall bathroom.

Don't be confused with the other Chesepeake marina in the same harbor . This one has Marty, who is the most friedly and helpful dockmaster we have met. Nice and quiet. Close to everything.
