Reviews for Chemainus Public Wharf
A definite great stop, 2016-07-22
Captain: , Charlestown (946)

The marina staff are helpful and the facility is pretty good. Clean restrooms and showers. You are located near the Ferry and a major loading dock for the lumber mill. It can be a little noisy and rocky from the ferry traffic, but the ferry stops around 10:00PM. I would definitely go back. The town is great! These people hit the tourist nail on the head. A local live theater, music in the park on tuesday evenings. Building murals depicting their history and great restaurants. One of our best stops in the Gulf Islands. 49th parallel grocery store will provide rides to and from. They also have a small general store with light food supplies and anything else you can think of right up from the dock. Need a couch? They have it!

Interesting spot!, 2015-09-13
Captain: , Pender Harbour, BC (411)

Concrete floats, great condition, good power and water, wi-fi actually works! Now ... not picturesque by any means, and right beside the ferry terminal, but a very decent place to stay with a wonderful wharfinger (Harmon) intent on pleasing the transient boaters. The town is quaint, and well worth the walking tour (marked on the sidewalk!). A great one-night stay type spot, with lots of scenery within an hour or so cruise.

What Wakes?, Wed Farmers Market, 2015-06-03
Captain: , Orofino, Idaho (321)

Hit here on a Wednesday and enjoyed the Farmers market, which only has a little food, but lots of arts & crafts. An easy walk to the park which puts you in the heart of town, lots of bakers & stuff. This is a Canadian retirement area and Chemainus is pushing it roll as an art center. Loved the big murals around town. Lots of them dealing with town history.
We didn't notice the wakes, but we are a small (22 ft) boat and they put is inside between two big boats.

Interesting Stop, Chemainus is a nice town!, 2015-05-21
Captain: , San Diego (301)

Nice marina, good wifi and access to town. A small grocery at the top of the wharf and then a larger store about 1/4 away. Lots of shops, eating places and bakeries.

We had good 50 amp power and did not notice the ferry wakes even though we were tied to the outside.

Make reservations, the place was empty when we arrived, by 5 all the slips were filled with a group. The dockmaster Harmon and his wife couldn't be nicer and held our stop with no payment info.

We got a couple of the last seats for the theater, I would suggest getting these ahead of time if you know your schedule.

Good Experience, 2014-08-27
Captain: , Seattle-Union Bay (32)

Friendly staff, clean rest rooms and free showers with moorage. Garbage disposal at head of dock. New shopping center and liquor store about half mile down road. Free transport in truck back to dock with significant purchase. Block ice at grocery. Dinner theater in town a real plus.

Great small Marina, Great Town to visit, Good value, 2014-08-15
Captain: , Rocky Point (60)

Stayed there in August 2014.
Great, friendly and helpful staff. Very nice concrete docks. Good wifi connection. Washrooms are clean and modern. Showers cost $1 for 2 minutes.
Close to ineresting town. A "must stop" while traveling in this area.
Good value at $ 1.19 per foot mooring charge.

Dinner theatre is the real reason to come here, 2014-01-01
Captain: , Cowichan Bay, BC (838)

The main reason to come to Chemainus is the decent local dinner theatre. The wharfinger is a bit of a PITA but he means well. The dinner is pretty good and the theatre quality depends on what they are playing and who is playing but overall well worth the visit. Probably a $100 evening for two but that includes dinner, drinks and theatre so not expensive by any measure. Theatre is a hike from the dock but an easy walk for most people.

Great Town! - Very Friendly People, 2013-07-16
Captain: , Anacortes., Washington (121)

Aside from the ferry wakes, the docks are in great shape. Harmon (the dock master) is awesome and will help with anything.

Don’t miss going to Utopia Bakery. The baked goods are out-of-this-world good !

Free internet is also available with a strong signal and faster than most other marinas in the area.

Tight morrage & Ferry wakes, but great town, 2012-10-19
Captain: , Bainbridge Island, WA (268)

This marina is very small and the slips are very narrow. The fairway is barely wide enough for you to maneuver, and if you end up getting a slip way on the inside, and you have a >30%u2019 size boat, you will have a heck of a time getting back out.

The wakes from the ferry is quite bad, so you will be rock-n-rolling all day and night, until the ferry stops running for the night. A number of commercial fishermen will come in to unload/load in the middle of the night, so after the ferry wakes stops, the water pump noises from the fishing boats will keep you awake.

The best option is for you to stay in Telegraph Harbour, then take the ferry across to Chemainus to enjoy the town.

The town is very nice and shouldn%u2019t be bypassed if you have never been there before. Great food, pubs, ice cream, theatre, and of course, there are lots of murals on the sides of the buildings, telling the history of the town.

Something for everyone, 2011-03-07
Captain: , Sidney BC, Canada (271)

Great little town, walk around and enjoy the murals. The live theater is great for the girls while the boys play golf at a great course. Marina is all new with beautiful concrete docks with water and power but make sure you call ahead and reserve a spot. Talk to Harmon at 1-250-246-4655, he will do anything he can to make your stay a great! Ask him where to get a $2.95 breakfast, he will give you directions. Super stocked grocery store at the head of the docks.

Good for the wall paintings walk throughout town, 2011-02-05
Captain: , Olalla, WA (342)

As mentioned, it is tight to find moorage for overnight. You can access a permenant slip for a couple of hours. Dock master is a stitch and will go the extra mile to help you out. Great to wolk the town and look at all the murials. Plan to take about 2-3 hours to walk the town with a stop for a quick lunch or ice cream. Good grocery with crab bait for those looking for that. You can take a tour of th emurials by horse drawn wagon which would be fun for older adults and those with little kids that would not fair well walking that far. They have a great live theater that does wonderful plays in the summer. Worth taking the ferry over instead of trying for a slip or anchoring.

Exposed to Ferry Wash, 2010-10-13
Captain: , Anacortes, WA (177)

Very tight spaces for moorage. ENtire moorage exposed to ferry wake. Ferry docks beside the marina. Nicely maintained. Excellent access to town. Town is very nice and has excellent attractions. Dinner Theater is very good! Plenty of food and general shopping. Bring a camera for the Murals that cover the city building walls.

Chemanius Public Marina, 2009-03-12
Captain: , Olympia (308)

Very limited moorage, use one of the marinas on Thetis Island and take the ferry over.

The town is interesting, it has made itself a tourist center and replaced logging as its prime employer
