Reviews for Charleston Harbor Marina
Great Place, 2016-11-27
Captain: , Beeville (90)

Ordinarily we stay at the city marina, but they were full due to all of the adjustments from Hurricaine Mathew. We were lucky and very pleased to get into Charleston Harbor Marina. There is full access to Charleston via a free and regular shuttle. The facilities are excellent and the people are great. We were also treated to free tickets to the festivals that occur in the nearly pavillion.

Very nice facility and services, 2016-11-13
Captain: , Phoenix, AZ (132)

A very nice, professionally-run marina. Docks are in good shape, the staff is friendly & helpful, and the shuttles into town are very nice! The current can be a problem, ask the staff for assistance before you arrive if you aren't sure how to deal with it! That said, the fairways are quite wide, which helps a LOT. We used the free shuttle from the resort into town - very nice, and they were right on time both ways.

very disappointing , 2016-10-07
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (980)

This may have been a good Marina at one time, but it is falling into disrepair, and neglect.
The fuel station is reported open 24 hours, but it is very hard to get them on the phone or over VHF.
We called this morning from 6AM until 6:55 even walked over... No one around.
The ramps leading to individual dicks are dangerous, the metal slats are worn , a shoe could easily catch in the holes... Especially in the evening hours.
This is not worth the price per foot. We will choose another option on all future trips

GREAT EXPERIENCE, 2016-08-10
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (618)

8/10/16. Return trip we stopped at Charleston City Marina. Prefer Charleston Harbor. Keep up the good work guys!!! We will be back.

After reading all the negative comments below, I was reluctant to bring 5 boats here for 5 days. Upon arrival and calling via VHF marina staff were very professional. From reservations to arrival- very smooth operation. Great restaurants, pool and of course shopping. WIFI worked great. Would recommend this resort marina!!

It appears that the last comment either comes from a novice boater who know nothing about currents or a boater who expects instant attention. Based on time the current is swift and the staff wait for your arrival before assigning slips. Recommend slack tide timing. Good approach as the current differs based on slip location.

Great Charleston Marina, 2016-08-04
Captain: , Rockford, IL (20)

This was a wonderful Marina except for the current and it was hard to get ahold of them on the phone on week-ends to make advance reservations. Elizabeth called us back from our voicemail message when she came to work on Monday though and was so very helpful.
Lots of great things about this Marina (including Elizabeth). The water taxi, the pool, the docks, the location, the view of the freighters passing by, etc. we had a car here so we didn't use the shuttle but glad that they have one. Will stay here again.

good place to stop, 2016-07-30

Needs management, 2016-06-29
Captain: , myrtle beach, sc (40)

Five vessels from our Power Squadron docked here on June 12 at noon. Despite reservations made well in advance, we had to wait in the harbor for an extended period of time for dock assignments. When we received the slip assignments, there were no identifying numbers on the slips. There was only one dockhand, who tried to put one vessel in a slip too narrow for her beam. Upon check in, one captain found that cash was not accepted, and the dockhand was not authorized to charge credit cards, so we had to leave written notes of our card numbers (!). The dockhand could not tell us what the dockage would be and we had no receipts. As a result of our experience, we cancelled reservations for two additional nights for all 5 vessels on our return trip. This marina was displaying several awards for excellence!

this is a great Marina, 2016-06-25

We read the previous reviews. So there building another hotel with a second pool. Why do people complain? I think this could be the nicest place in South Carolina! Just give it a couple more months. Elizabeth made our docking arrangements and our marquip lader was not long enough for their floating docks. So Todd got us another slip so we could stern In on our port side. Nice team work. So the second day at 11:00 am they sent 2 dock hands to help us untie and move to a better location! Untie and tie us up again. Kelly the dock master made sure we were happy. One of the dock hand named Mac (like Mac and cheese) his words took our shopping stuff back to our boat. Just great crew. Had the boat washed by one of their recommended peeps. Kelly was very open to suggestions. The washer dryers were perfect. So they need a little more time to get up to 5 stars. But very nice Marina . When we come south we will stay here again. They have a trolley that takes you shopping. Ere is a water taxie that takes u to down town Charleston. I heard they will improve the wifi whichever work 75% of the time. All we can say is NICE PLACE !!!

Great Service/Great Marina, 2016-06-16
Captain: , Aiken (30)

I keep my fishing boat at this Marina as it is so easy and quick to get out to the fishing grounds early in the morning. The fuel dock is open 24 hours. The dockhands are always courteous, even when you call them in the middle of the night for Ice. lots of fun regulars and live aboards. I cant wait for the new beach club to open. I usually spend about three days at a time here and never leave the Marina. Pricing is also very fair.

Excellent Stopping Point, 2016-06-01
Captain: , Michigan (190)

We stayed for a week. Very good service and help docking, departing and fueling. The onsite Trolley/Van took us to West Marine, Grocery Store and Charleston City.

Walk down the dock to tour the Aircraft Carrier, Destroyer and Submarine. We stayed on the E-Dock which has a number of the jovial folks and had a great time.

We also enjoyed a few late afternoons at the pool and hot tub. Don't miss a trip to Sullivans Island, trolley goes there.

Continued Excellent Docking assistance, 2016-05-18
Captain: , annapolis (453)

Arrived 1515 (Wed) following 72 hrs and 407 nm - Powell Cay, Abaco to CHM, very tired. Approaching fuel dock, unfortunately at max ebb, was met by Mike and Taylor, docking went smoothly. Fueled and hour later Taylor assisted me to my slip AND in route to the slip Taylor enlisted 4 other to help. Another successful
docking.

Thur maint. day, noticed need an engine hose. Proceeded to marina office where i met Elizabeth, Off. Mgr. Explained my situtuon; she immediately recommended Carroll's Yachting Services. Dialed the number and handed me the phone. Later that day Carroll delivered the hose.

Two examples of excellent service provided by the staff of CHM.
Note: Todd assisted me docking in my previous review. Todd is now Dockmaster.

Enjoyed a nice, restful, five day visit. Thanks again to Todd, Taylor, Elizabeth and the rest for an enjoyable stay.

Arrived 0850 following 26 hrs and 163nm from Fernandina.
Todd directed me to the fuel dock, refuled then to a slip.
Still some current before slack, singlehanding I needed assistance.
Todd jumped aboard and directed me to a slip and even with current had a very uneventful docking. I enjoyed my three day
stay and will stop again.

Good stopover, 2016-05-13
Captain: , Oriental, NC (160)

Well maintained facility with significant landside construction going on. Convenient to downtown Mt Pleasant but you need transportation. Pretty good restaurant on site. Marine store was not open early.

Convenience, 2016-04-26
Captain: , North Star, DE (10)

The marina had everything we needed, with the exception of reliable wi-fi out on the docks. I was able to use the wi-fi up at the marina office and the hotel. Easy transportation to downtown Charleston using water taxi for 10 bucks round trip (or hop-on/hop-off all day). Also a courtesy van for nightime runs and a morning run for groceries each day. Staff was helpful and friendly. Could use more washers/dryers (2 each).

Unresponsive , 2016-04-01
Captain: , Menemsha, MA (61)

I had a reservation, but when I approached I couldn't raise anyone by phone or radio. Finally got a call back and was told to stand off the breakwater, where I waited for 30 minutes without any response to my calls for at least a slip assignment. I left. This is unacceptable.

We had engine problems and were towed in by Boats US. Stayed out on the T-dock. Nice friendly staff. Its a long walk to take the pups out. Have a trolley at the hotel that will take you to town. Nothing in walking distance. Dock Master was very helpful.

absentee owners, poor management, run down ammenties, 2015-12-17
Captain: , Charleston south carolina (90)

Having been a Charleston native until 2 years ago I am embarrassed that this marina represents Charleston to transits on customer service and ammenties and cost. After hailing the marina on VHF they did not answer, after calling the office landline they stated that it would be 30 minutes before they could get a dockhand to assist ( no one would come out of the office to assist and they only had one dockhand on duty that was "unavailable" do NOT try docking at this marina with out someone at the dock while the current is running, very tricky even for experence captains/ crew). Once we got to our assigned slip the power to the slip was non-functioning ( even after we had made a reservation weeks in advanced they put us in a slip that had non-functioning power). I understand they are building a new hotel and refirbishing the old hotel however this has nothing to do with the lack of customer service, I blame this on the owners more than likely cutting corners on paying the employees what they should be getting and absentee owners not paying attention to quality control.

Management response:
An open letter of apology…
I wanted to take a moment to apologize to our transient tenants for the lack of amenities afforded them during last transient season. As many of you are aware, we are nearing the end of construction on our new luxury resort. During last season however, we were also in the middle of updating the outside of the current resort, and due to this construction, some of our amenities such as the Reel bar and Jacuzzi were out of service. On top of which, the flooding that hit our state caused an unprecedented high tide that destroyed our pump-out system. This in effect caused us to lose our ability to provide showers/bathroom service, and washer and dryer service. We were hit with a triple whammy of sorts, and it called for a long season. I will say that the majority of the transients took it in stride and were very kind to us. We are humbled by and gracious for the understanding shown in light of the issues we were facing. I want to re-assure all of you that we are actively anticipating this coming transient season, and looking forward to hosting you again. We are functioning at 100%, and are ready to provide you with the outstanding service expected from an Active Captain First Choice Marina. We hope to see you in the Spring. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Its going downhill ..., 2015-12-15
Captain: , Hamburg, Germany (20)

I have not been in this marina for nine years and was really looking forward to coming back. Last time I stayed for more than three weeks. But a lot changed since 2006. The only improvement is the free shuttle to the grocery store and downtown.

The prices for docking are hilarious, 2,15 Dollars per foot. At the same time the Charleston Harbor Marina seems to be one of the last marinas in the western hemisphare where internet is a foreign word. Internet is hard to receive on board our vessel, very slow and not very reliable. How is this possible in the year 2015? Internet is very important for every mariner to get weather information, plan the next legs of the voyage and stay in contact with friends and family. I planned to update our blog from here, but it was impossible. What a pity. Charleston Harbor Marina used to be such a nice place.

DOUBT WE'LL BE BACK, 2015-12-02
Captain: , Hampton, VA (331)

Much has been written about the current flowing right through this marina and it's all true. This is a varsity docking location at it's worst. Beyond that, the management of the marina has really gone down hill in the past year or so. They don't answer the phone, the dockhands are at the very least inexperienced and don't seem to get any support from the marina manager, even during times when they are really busy. During our most recent visit we circled around just outside the breakwater for over an hour just waiting for a slip assignment and even then the dockhand on the radio (and phone) couldn't describe the slip we would be using. This place is in a great location with all sorts of attractions close by and downtown Charleston just a short courtesy bus away. I can work with the currents (just arrive/depart at slack), but not with the current issues and a management team that just doesn't seem to really care.

Not for Cruisers, 2015-11-19
Captain: , Wilmington - DE (10)

This is not a marina for cruisers. The internet (wi fi) is bad, worthy of a curse. The bath-rooms were interdicted and the laundry room is small and cramped. And it was the most expensive marina betweenPortsmouth-Pompano Beach.

Just a great place, 2015-11-14
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (1100)

Decided to try Charleston Harbor Marina and will derfinately be back. From making the reservation, to docking, to checking in they made it easy. Especially the very compentent dockhand Crieghton who made sure we were aware of the quick running current that is waiting to sweep you into harms way. After politley asking how we were with handling our boat in tight quarters and swift current he guided us to our slip and then handled lines to ensure a quick tie up. All while under pressure from several other boaters waiting to dock. Never once did he rush us. Now that's how to treat a customer.

We stayed for a month, 2015-11-09
Captain: , Lakeland (997)

We stayed here for a month to visit friends in the Charleston area and get a little boat work done. ( Luther marine is highly recommeded! He did excellent work, on time, at excellent prices). The Charleson North Sails people were very unreliable however. But.... back to the marina. The staff was super helpful and accomodating. We were at first on a side tie to an outside dock which was subject to a lot of wake. We requested an inner slip and after several days were moved in. The facilites are excellent. Great pool! Great free shuttle into downton Charleson. Also, nice to have the water taxi stop right at the marina. We were quite happy here.

Update: We stayed again in October 2015. The staff once again was very nice and accomodating. However, the showers and laundry were out of order the entire time we were there. We had to take a taxi to the local laundromat for laundry. There was also construction going on up at the resort causing a little bit of hassle.

Need decent wifi? Stay elsewhere., 2015-11-08
Captain: , East Coast (184)

To me there is an irony to a first choice marina where the wifi is insufficient to reliably access Active Captain. Our hotspot was off the boat for a couple of days and we were hoping the marina's system would be suitable for at least checking/sending emails and researching our cruising plans other than on our "i" devices. As of our stay the first week of November it was not. They claim to be upgrading their system which will be essential to draw and bring back cruisers who count on a marina's system to stay connected.

I cannot hold this against the marina but be aware that the walk to land from many of the docks, particualrly A extension is enormous. Easily ten minutes - no kidding. It was not the place to stay with a dog who needed to be walked at least four times a day and with no garbage cans on the docks it was a long way to haul trash. The docks were covered with scattered debris during our stay as well.

The office staff was very nice and professional and apologetic about the wifi. The onsite restaurant was good.

I phoned and emailed this marina on 11-04-2015 requesting a minimum 2 day slip reservation. My instructions were to please confirm as I was sailing offshore to Charleston and would arrive 11-06-2015. When I was outside the harbor, I phoned the marina and left a second message and hailed them on VHF. No response in any form.

Great location across river from Charleston, 2015-10-27
Captain: , Jamestown RI (223)

Dockhands very helpful at fuel dock and getting into slip. Be aware of currents. Free shuttle to Harris Teeter market and downtown Charleston. Fish House restaurant on site was good. Bathrooms, showers and laundry under repair during our visit. Poor/no wifi on B dock.

Very nice docks and friendly staff. But you get some wakes., 2015-10-23
Captain: , Hampton, VA (150)

Very nice marina. Good dock hands and friendly staff. Large marina with cement floating docks. Only drawback was the wakes from passing pilot boats and those not aware of the size of their wakes. It got really rocky a couple of times especially late afternoon.

Good stop for provisioning and visiting downtown Charleston, 2015-10-20
Captain: , St Pete Beach, Florida (256)

The marina staff were cordial and friendly. There is a free trolley to nearby grocery stores and to downtown Charleston. The resport pool is available to boaters, a very nice amenety. The front desk staff were kind and helpful.

This is a convenient and easy to access marina.

The bathroom factilities were a long walk from our slip, we moight request a closer slip next time. The fuel dock's office and bathrooms were in disrepair.

Excellent Service, 2015-08-20
Captain: , Mystic, CT (112)

On our way south on the outside, we stopped at Charleston Harbor Marina for fuel. I have to say the dock hand was one of the nicest, polite, friendly person we met so far. I just wish I could remember his name (we stopped on 8-19-2015 at 6am). He gave us information on Charleston and what it has to offer. Told us how great the area is as well as the marina details.

Gotta say I will definately make it a stayover spot when we travel along the coast next. Cudos to the marina for highering such professional people. It made a great impression.

Excellent marina, however......., 2015-08-07
Captain: , Olcott, NY (2536)

03/15/15 - Just a quick fuel stop this time as there was no washing facilities available. We rely on this marina for excellent service and as you see below have stayed here for long durations.
however our main complaint is still the lack of proper washing machines. NO WASHERS were working when we were there which was one of the prime reasons we stopped.
Come on guys, fix the problem!! it cost you a weeks dockage from me, about the cost of one good washing machine!
================================
On our first visit, We left the boat here for almost a month while traveling in Europe.
The staff kept a close eye on the boat while we were gone and even arranged to have our bottom cleaned by a diver before we got back.
It is exposed and you can get some very strong winds and seas here. However the marina itself is well protected.
03/11/2015
lots of construction going on around the area of the marina.
long walk from transient docks to the pick up point.
laundry facilities and shower facilities have gone down hill since our last visit.
easy in and out for fuel and a pumpout.

Good place to Dock near Charleston, 2015-07-24
Captain: , Chapin, South Carolina (410)

Good place to Dock. A very large Marina so timeliness with finding out what slip you were assigned and getting assistance was not great. But the staff were very friendly and helpful. The showers were very clean and while small, there were plenty of hooks for clothes and towels. There is a trolley that will take you to restaurants and to charleston. There is no cost for the trolley and it has a great schedule. There is also a pool and they provide many lounge chairs and towels at poolside

Unexpected Fun Across the Harbor, 2015-06-13
Captain: , Miami Beach (10)

While in route off shore from Miami to Newport we were looking for a place in Charleston to ride out a cold front for a day or two......however, all the marinas where we had friends give us recommendations were booked due to the Art Festival. Charleston Harbor Marina had one spot remaining and we grabbed it thinking it was a little out of the way, but it was a safe spot. Unexpectedly, downtown Charleston turned out to be a quick ferry ride (or an Uber ride) away. It was a quick and easy commute. The ferry drops you off in the middle of downtown.....which was super convenient. The marina was safe, well attended, and super focused on customer service. We loved that it was part of a resort, off the beaten track, yet close to all of the activity of downtown Charleston. The current was ripping, as it is at every marina in Charleston; however, as long as you are aware, adjustments can be made. Overall, this was a place I'd highly recommend and we will definitely return. In fact, instead of it being the alternative choice, it will now be the preferred choice.

So much to love, but........, 2015-05-21
Captain: , Washington NC (20)

When in Charleston we usually stay at the City Marina but they were full so we came here. On the plus side the dock hand was very knowledgeable and helpful. Transients at the Marina have access to all the hotel amenities with the exception of the fitness center. The pool is beautiful, nice bar, loaner bikes. The shuttle service to the grocery store in the early AM is WONDERFUL and it only takes 15 minutes in the shuttle to get downtown and it runs until !0PM. All good. But.....There are only 2 washing machines for the marina and one of them was broken and looked like it had been out of service for quite a while. Also there is no WiFi in the marina, even if you stand directly adjacent to the antenna. It wouldn't take much to make this my first choice in Charleston. Please attend to these issues.

Captain: , staten island (511)

arrived on sat afternoon, fueled up ,tide runs hard here,we where asked if we wanted to be on the extension , which looked exposed and kind of flimsy, probably my fault as i have warned people that this boat is new to me so my handling isnt as good as it will be ,or if we opted we can have a slip opted for slip.easily tied up all smooth ,dockhands did a good job ....Once tied up we where told by dock boss we could pay him for gas and dock so as not to have to go to office ,OK,all done then he made off ,so quickly we got no codes for gates or amenities like bathrooms or wifi nor the simplest like wheres the office travel to town water taxi wasnt bad although standing room only then the trip back cab driver took me to every marina but the right one so it cost me 40 bucks .... hey watever charleston was cool nice resturants , but i think the city docks the way to go so you have easier access to town .... Also we are from ny very used to tanker and tug ,ferry traffic the tanker traffic here has no forgiveness as per maersk line captain who prefered speeding thru a group of small boats and jet skiers .... way to reckless

The Good and the Bad, 2015-05-08
Captain: , New Bern, NC (10)

First, We arrived yesterday in 30+ knot winds, and heavy sideways rain, current running full throttle. Hailed them on the radio, nothing, again, nothing. Used my handheld, Nada. Meanwhile I'm fighting to hold my position off the vacant fuel dock. Called them on the phone, success. We were in our slip, unaided when the lone dock hand arrived to pick up a line sitting on the stern, wrapped a cleat and told us where to go pay our money. I don't know, but I've had better service, almost everywhere. WiFi down, they know. No cable TV.

The Good. My A/C raw water pump needed replacement. I called Banff Luther of Luther Marine, off Active Captain. I emailed a pic of the bad pump, he secured an exact replacement while the wind and rain continued. This morning at 0900 he was at our boat, replaced the pump, tested the system, and did one other small job.
Nice fellow, very competent, does what he says when he says he will. Can't recommend more. Very happy we found him.

Thank you Active Captain.

Mike Creedon

Excellent Layover, 2015-03-13
Captain: , Grand Island, NE (240)

We pulled in for a couple day layover - chose Charleston Harbor with AC recomendation. Dock hands were professional and courteous - the current 'matters' and we appreciated the assistance. We were ahead of 'season' so water taxi not operating - however appreciated the resort shuttle to groceries and regular round trips to Charleston City. On-Premise FishHouse restaurant and bar good - however, Charleston is noted for exceptional eateries so has tough competition. Restrooms & Showers were clean - however the 4 shower rooms are minimal for marina this size. All staff were friendly - really appreciate the dockside pumpout. We will definitely stop if passing thru here again.

Higher priced than preferred - mention AC and get a discount.

a different opinion of charleston harbor marina, 2015-01-09
Captain: , brewerton, ny (10)

showers are in a closet with no hooks to hang your cloths, there was dog poop on the docks that stayed there for the two days we were there, alot of bird poop on docks that never was cleaned off. the office girl needs to find a smile and put it on her face. in fact all staff was very impersonal, now that we are on the subject of staff docks hands are a joke. we ask for help untying because current and wind were not in our favor hoping to get some good assistancs leaving; the dock hand untied our lines threw them on board hitting my wife in the head and face with wet lines then turned his back and walked away not even looking back. we chose this marina because it was an active captain 1st choice....we hope active captain will review and realize this place may be a resort but not a nice place to stay!!!! we will stay someplace else in Charleston area next time.
.

Management response:
Charleston can be a tricky stop for boaters who are not familiar with strong current. It is wise to contact us with any concerns you might have so that we can assist you with getting safely to the dock. Our dockhands are experienced in handling these conditions and will give you directions and may even recommend you wait for slack tide. Delaying an arrival or departure can keep your boat and others in the marina safe from a collision.

We are proud to qualify for our 1st Choice status based on over 100 boater reviews. However, our goal is to never rest on our laurels and we strive to learn from every experience. We are sorry that Mr. Kelley had difficulties in the marina. We have discussed the issues with our staff. Our goal is to hit a home run every time. We'll keep trying.
Thanks,
L. Kelley Poe.... Harbormaster, Charleston Harbor Marina

excellent Facility, 2014-12-18

More expensive than we like to pay, but excellent facilities and services, access to local community. Sean, in the office completed an excellent wax job on our boat. will return again. Access to swimming pool

Convenient & Decent Shelter, 2014-11-24
Captain: , Stuart FL (508)

Stayed during the cold snap in November. Fairly well-protected on inside slip but others on A-dock and "extension" bounced around with wakes of passing ships. Stout westerly wind left those piers awash. Big marina so could be long walk to heads / showers. Not 5- stars 'cause showers so cramped. Also showers lack heat, noticeable in winter weather! Staff professional, helpful, responsive. Hotel shuttle is GREAT! Nice fitness room with machines + free weights. Overall, reasonable value for this area and may be the best in Charleston.

I Am A Convert, 2014-11-20
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (392)

Although I wasn't to happy when during my approach while fighting wind and current, I was-unable to reach anyone on the radio. We called the front desk and they got in touch with the dockhands. We were met by two very competent dockhands and docking was made easy. The facility and the people were great, and the shuttle made getting into Charleston very simple. I would definitely stay here again but will time my arrival and departure at a slack current.

Good stop for cold stormy weather, 2014-11-19
Captain: , Rowayton, CT (88)

Stayed here for 4 nights to ride out some stormy cold weather. Great staff, clean facilities, and good floating docks. Free shuttle stops within 4 blocks of a Harris Teeter in Charlseton. A bit pricy but Active Captain discount helps. Marina store on premises mostly clothes and souvenirs.

Always First Class, 2014-11-17
Captain: , Castine, Maine (2997)

2014: Back in the spring and then again in the fall - it's one of our favorite stops. Charleston is such a terrific city and this is a great location to stay while visiting. The staff is definitely trained in customer service. Dockhand Alex was expert at helping us pull in, Butch let us know he was keeping a watch over us each night, Jacque was always friendly and helpful in the office, Harlan delivered our mail to the boat, and Todd checked in to make sure we were happy. It feels like coming home! Thanks, Kelley for running such a great team.

2013-04-12: This time we stayed for nearly 3 weeks and had a great time. The dockhands are all experienced and know just what to do with your lines. Everyone works to make your stay a good one from Kelley the marina manager to Stan the harbormaster to Butch who works the graveyard shift just in case you need anything.

We used a combination of the hotel trolley and the water taxi to get anywhere we wanted in Charleston. A bonus is a small but friendly liveaboard community and the ammenities of the attached resort. If you haven't tried them you need to. It will become your favorite Charleston destination.

2012-05-05: Charleston is one of our favorite stops on the east coast. We always stop in and have been to every marina here at one time or another. The Charleston Harbor Marina is the nicest facility in Charleston with a beautiful pool, jacuzzi, nice grounds, a great bar/restaurant, the amenities go on and on. Plus they have a great staff, friendly and professional.

We had thought the location was not as convenient as the City Marina but found it to actually be better. The view across the river to the Charleston skyline is beautiful. There's a free shuttle that takes you into the historic district and even to Sullivan's Island. Or you can get a day pass on the water taxi.

We enjoyed our time there and will be back again and again.

Great Service at Charleston Harbor Marina, 2014-11-17
Captain: , Minneapolis, MN (10)

Stopped by for gas, shower and lunch. Received very friendly and helpful service from staff. Michael Santelli took great care of us. We will always stop here on or trips. Thanks Michael.

Great Stop, 2014-11-15
Captain: , Merritt Island Florida (150)

Jacque in the office went out of her way to help us get a slip for the weekend, and Todd and Michael did a great job helping us get into our slip fighting a strong current pushing us crosswise. Showers and bathroooms are very clean and floating concrete floating docks are great.

Great Stop out of the fray, 2014-11-04
Captain: , Dutch Harbor, RI (411)

We decided to stop here because it was easy access to get off and on the ICW. Free trolley to Charleston and hotel amenities available to transients (pool, whirlpool, bar etc. ). Great hospitality with the Marina staff, in particular Jacque in the office and Michael Santelli on the docks. We were met with three dock hands as we approached. Gas discounts for BoatUS members. Mention Active Captain for slip discount.

Charleston Harbor Resort Marina, 2014-11-01
Captain: , Bristol, RI (240)

Hats off the the dock master,Mike, and night watchman, Butch, for setting us up dockside when we came in after midnight. Expertly, they docked three boats in less than 20 minutes. We were relieved to be there safely. They expected our arrival and were prompt and professional. The marina is great with its connection piers and walk ways. Having access to the pool in the resort was a plus. Being so close to the Laffey , sub, and Yorktown was great. I was disappointed, however, that we were told by the hotel staff that we could not use the fitness center. I was willing to pay and they said they charge $50/month for the marina people who want to use it. As a transient, I was willing to pay although if they call it marina and resort, it should be included. In Baltimore, transients received a reduced rate if they purchased a pass from The Inner Harbor EAst. In Hampton Roads and River Dunes , the fitness center was included. For people who like to work out daily and who have been on a boat for a while, use of the center is an mental and physical plus.. Otherwise, the staff and marina were great.

Nice friendly service!, 2014-10-26
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (305)

We stayed 24-25OCT2014. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had no problems with our transient dockage fee (it was charged by the boat foot not dock foot). They even provided us with discount coupons for the Yorktown exhibit. Our interent access worked great. The shower facilities are a bit tight, but workable. We arrived very early from an offshore passage, and it was definitely convenient that this marina is open 24hrs.

Helpful Dockhands, 2014-10-26
Captain: , Auburn, Maine (407)

Kathie M. 60 ft Sportfish

Stayed one night 10-24-14. Facilities very clean and nice, skilled and friendly dock staff, good transportation to town, although could be a bit more frequent. (Trolley and Water Taxi). We would stay here again, but would be careful of the powerful currents. We came in at slack tide, so wasn't a problem.

Great with one hick-up, 2014-10-24
Captain: , Washington DC (312)

I had not seen the previous review since it was on the day we arrived but the same exact thing happened. When I pointed it out the slip cost calculation was fixed. I was told that transients are going to be charged boat length rather than slip length in the future.

As far as the employess hard to remember a more kind or patient group of individuals. A young gentlemen named Michael got is in and back out of the slip perfectly.

We will certainly be back!

Some Issues, 2014-10-21
Captain: , Jamestown, RI (80)

First, the positives. Dock staff was excellent. No problem getting into a slip even with the strong current. Faciilities are clean. The pool and jacuzzi at the Marriot are available. There is a shuttle into town.

Negatives: The bus into Charleston is uncomfortable, and the ride takes longer than they say. The things you want to see in Charleston aren't really that accessible. The walk to the bathrooms and showers is too long. There is no bench in the showers. The internet doesn't work; they gave me 2-3 versions of the password and none worked. Lastly, the price is steep. You pay $2.15 per foot and the cost is the greater of the length ofyour boat and the length of the slip. So if you have a 35 foot boat in a 40 foot slip, you play for 40 feet.

Excellent marina.., 2014-09-11
Captain: , Bayfield WI (116)

CHRM has been great at helping us settle into life in Charleston. After spending many years out cruising the world we are happy to stop at this marina. Jacque Leto office manager has been a great help. THANKS S/Y HALFMOON

My Prefered Charleston Marina, 2014-05-15
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (115)

The marina staff is excellent. Dockage includes hotel amenities with free shuttle into Charleston. Water taxi to Charleston is available. Shower facilities are clean. Watch out for current when docking. This is a large marina that involves some walking, but not as much as Charleston City Marina. When in Charleston again this is where I will dock my sailing sloop. I suggest making reservations as early as possible anywhere when docking in Charleston. It's a popular stop along the ICW.

Nice Visit, 2014-05-13
Captain: , Camden ME (465)

This marina is in a great location next to a park, Yorktown aircraft carrier and easy acces to town with a free shuttle. We spent two nights, clean showers, floating docks and great staff. Will return when we head south in the fall.

Overpriced; Needs maintenance , 2014-05-13
Captain: , Whitby (370)

Stayed here four nights starting on 2014-05-10.
The Active Captain discount is no longer available so we paid full fare at $2.15 per night. Fuel has a BoatUS discount.
Dock staff were competent, friendly, and helpful.
Problem here is with upper management. Necessary maintenance and repairs have not been performed. The ramps to the floating docks are hazardous to walk on; boards on the pier are in desperate need of replacement.
Although security is on premises 7/24, the docks have full public access 7/24. Hence, the security is illusory.
A boat docked next to us was being used as a floating B&B. Definitely not comforting.

Nice Marina - beware of strong current, 2014-04-28
Captain: , Palm Coast, Florida (785)

After an outside trip fro St. Augustine, we stayed here 2 nights April 26 & 27. Staff and facilities are great. We had to tie up inside the face dock and wait for slack. The boat that was vacating the slip we were assigned got pinned against some boats due to a 3 knot current.

Easy access to Charleston,, 2014-04-18
Captain: , Meredith, NH (638)

Stayed here three nights sue to high winds. Good marina but long walk to office, restrooms, showers & laundry from most docks. Visited Charleston twice with no effort. Good restaurants here but expensive.

nice visit, 2014-03-07
Captain: , palm harbor (160)

we spent a week here in November and enjoyed out stay. we stayed on the mega dock so the walk out was pretty far. facilities are in great shape, staff is very nice. wind and current made side docking a little nervous as we were in between boats worth many millions of dollars. Will from Charleston sailing school brought my boat down from ny and ids a great guy and resource for vendors, repairs, local knowledge etc. his office is right next to the docks. A bit pricey art 25/foot per month though.

Great Experience, 2014-02-07
Captain: , Annapolis, Maryland (30)

This was an awesome stop on our way south, it was our first time visiting here, but will not be our last! Staff are helpful and knowledgeable of the area. Its a little walk to the showers but other than that, its a great place.

Luther Marine Services, 2013-11-21
Captain: , Annapolis (308)

I would agree in general with the ratings on the marina.

However, I would highly recommend Banff from Luther Marine Services. Very reasonable and timely! Did a great job helping me get a starter.

Don't miss the Restaurant , 2013-11-17
Captain: , Washington, DC (63)

The upper deck restaurant is terrific and reasonably priced. On Sunday morning I had the best Greek omelet I can remember and my wife raved about the shrimp & grits w/fried green tomatoes.
We stayed at anchor (easy anchoring & lovely view) and paid the $5 to tie our dink to their dingy dock for the day, so cannot comment on the marina itself. Only problem is the long walk to the marina office to register & fact that the dingy dock itself can be hard to find. Recommend contacting marina for directions.

Bumpy with Northeast winds, 2013-11-11
Captain: , Lewis Creek, Md (1234)

Stayed there in a bit of a blow 20 to 25 kt from the northeast. It was fairly bumpy despite the breakwater. Take particular care entering with tidal flow. The space inside the breakwater can be a little tight with a 3 kt current. The docks could be a little cleaner lot of bird do-do, but the facilty is otherwise, nice. An addition, try to avoid the floating docks facing the entrance to the breakwater

A nice stop with plenty to do., 2013-11-10
Captain: , Charlestown (946)

My only negitive comments are that it was a looong walk to the restroom and showers and with a facility this size they need more showers, washers and hot water. A facility at the other end would make this place a 6 star. Other than that it is a great place with an accomodating staff. Even though you are not in Charleston proper you have transportation available with a free trolly to town or the water taxi for a $10.00 day pass. You can walk to the Yorktown aircraft carrier as well as the ferry to Ft. Sumter. If you want some great Low Country Cooking go to Jestines, but be prepared to wait, but it is worth it. We spent 3 days, but could have stayed longer.

Just pulled in , 2013-11-09
Captain: , Hampton, VA (361)

We just came in as a stop over on our way south. The competition was full and said they would call back (never did) so we opted to stay here. Very attentive dock hands and very we'll organized marina. Highly recommend and special thanks to Alex for ensuring we were settled in.

not cheaper but, 2013-11-05
Captain: , trois-riviers (10)

nice floating dock expensive 2.15$ by feet but 15% off for activecaptain member and electricity are not includ. and you can good on the pool and spa of the hotel !;)

Differences resolved, 2013-09-23
Captain: , Park City, Utah (10)

I've removed the negative comments made earlier regarding a billing issue at the marina because the issue was amicable resolved. As I said before, it's a very nice marina with excellent facilities.

Month long Stay, 2013-07-18
Captain: , Weston, VT (550)

Left this morning at slack tide which after spending time here is a good choice.
Pros: Great location with much going on including regattas, parties at the hotel, Yorktown museum etc. Also free trolley into downtown which my wife and I used several times. Decent pool and a good marina staff. Two independent guys onsite have offices located in marina office. Erich Schmidt and Sean Carrol. Both run small businesses and did good work for me. Erich handled the wash wax and bottom clean while Sean did some gel coat repair and painting. I needed this because..
Cons: We spent a month on the face of dock A. We were on board for two weeks and gone for two. This is a brutal dock for someone who will leave their boat as we can attest. We had 3 large round bumpers and 3 regular bumpers and still suffered damage. Docks are low, waves can throw your bumpers onto the dock and then you are in trouble. We suffered minor damage.

We loved Charleston and the marina but would never stay on the face dock again. Slip only for us.

clean marina, 2013-07-14
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (654)

Located on Patriots Point and the closest marina in the area to the intracoastal waterway, the marina is the ideal location for those traveling up and down the coast, but if you want to see the historic side of town it's a $10 taxi ride (all day) the marina is clean staff was ok but hard to get a hold of always off doing something. Restruant at hotel was marginal mostly bar food. Next time we would stay on the other side and save our $60 we spent on taxi rides

Average for the Price, 2013-07-09
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

The many comments below are good. Current is not as bad as you might think, but it is something to be careful with, if you have a single screw like us. Nice wide alleyways to give you a little extra room. Wide open to winds from all directions. If coming in for only one night and leaving early the next day, ask for the face dock. Staff is o.k., but seems preoccupied with "other" business quite often. Location for seeing the Yorktown is great as is access to ferry's and trolley to Charleston. facilitie are fair, and clean. Long walk to office/showers.

Great Location and Facility, 2013-06-21
Captain: , Jersey City, NJ (190)

Totally protected from the harbor, shuttle bus service to downtown Charleston, restaurants, pool, etc. The Harbormaster, Stan Jones was terrific. Offered to drive us to the supermarket to resupply and would take nothing in return. We were there because Charleston Muni was booked and I'm glad it worked out that way.

The Marina, 2013-06-14
Captain: , Charleston SC (217)

One of the best Marina's i've been too. There is new development going on, more bars and resturants.

Charleston Harbor Marina, 2013-06-12
Captain: , Freeport, Maine (175)

Nice facility, very large, all floating docks that are anchored to the bottom without pilings. Docks are so expansive that it can be a fairly long walk to get to the office and the heads. Part of a resort hotel with a restaurant and bar. The marina is immediately adjacent to the Yorktown Museum (aircraft carrier, destroyer, and sub plus) and marina/resort has shuttle service to downtown Charleston and Shem Creek. Also a large water taxi operates out of the marina.
Mechanical services were available on site but were quite pricey. Staff was skilled, knowledgable, and attentive.

Perspective of a Tennant, 2013-06-12
Captain: , Charleston, SC (22)

We continue to be very happy here. Current and wind are an issue but its the price you pay for the location and the view. WiFi is an issue most of the time. I would like to give my fuel business to CHM but their prices are just too high. Staff is terrific and the people are very friendly and helpful

Excellent Respite, 2013-06-12
Captain: , Perry, Kansas (317)

We were fortunate to have a slip close to shore/office, it could be a long walk if you are not so fortunate. Marina staff were friendly and more than helpful. We needed an air conditioner service and an onsite maintenance service, "Sean Carroll Yachting" came through when all others in the area failed to either answer their phones or not return calls from left messages.

Good Location to visit Charlston, 2013-06-08
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

Be prepared for long walk to get to land or the Office and showers.
Power can be an issue as my pedistal 50 only had one weak leg. I reported it and they didn't charge me for the days wihout? Also, a pedistal on A dock blew up and caught fire when the dock hand flipped the breaker on. Luckily he was not injured. Given my exposure it is time for them to re-hab the power. Typical of Charleston be prepared to deal with current when docking and dock help is offerred but you may have to waiit for them as they are in demand. You need a car if going to a supermarket. Wifi very very weak has teh docks are spread out so far. We enjoyed our stay but given the problems I observed can not give 5 stars.

great marina in a great town, 2013-06-04
Captain: , New Bern, NC (171)

We stayed here twice over the past month, and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The marina staff is very experienced at getting boats tied up to their transient face dock with the serious currents that run almost constantly in the Charleston area. Marina shares property with a very nice resort that runs frequent shuttles to Charleston Market. Water taxi also available to get to town. Active Captain discount on dockage rates. We will stay here again when we are in the area.

Charleston Harbor Marina, 2013-05-23
Captain: , New Bern, NC (730)

Great Marina. We spent 4 nights here. They are at Patriots Point and have a free "Ollie Trolley" to the historic district. We took it twice. Very convenient to the Patriots Point Military Museum. Staff are very accomodating and helpful. Could not have askedf for a better place to stay. We were side tied to their "A" dock exttension. No problems with wakes or tides. Floating cement dock.

Everything you need and more, 2013-05-12

Friendly and helpfull staff, quiet Marina, Pool/Spa/Restaurant at the Hotel and soon one restaurant more in the new building, free Trolley to downtown Charleston, Watertaxi to the Fort's and Downtown, dog and bicycle friendly area, Active Capatin Discount for dockage...wonderful Marina and the Trolley Service is great!

Nice marina but strong current, 2013-05-11
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Fl (880)

We spent 6 days here last spring. It is a lovely resort marina, and the docks are great, However the current is a challenge for the best of captains. The dock were good to get us in. We were .39 miles walk to the bath/shower/laundry building. An intermediate bath facility is needed. I rode my bike most of the time, but laundry is challenging. We attended a Charleston Symphony pops concert on the "green" and was such a treat for this area. Biking is friendly. Great neighorhood and next to the Maritime Museum. Shuttle service was a plus and makes getting around a pleasure. We will return here.

Marina and resort to get even better, 2013-05-08
Captain: , Hertford, NC (215)

Sailed in from St Augustine on 7 May. Nicely protected marina, very helpful dockhands, especially when tidal current is raging as it was for us. Well maintained with clean and decorative facilities. Hotel with Indigo restaurant and Reel Grille both excellent. Lovely pool, Tiki bar, sandy "beach" - not on the water but nice touch. Walk on the docks to excellent USS Yorktown museum and exhibits. Resort shuttle for almost anywhere you would want to go. **** When the Marina Store and the Fish House restaurant open May 23, the resort will be even better for transient boaters. A definite choice to stay now and in the future. Currently there is BoatUS discount for fuel, big Active Captain discount for dockage.

Calm in a wild wind, 2013-05-04
Captain: , Hampton, VA (115)

We pulled in here in 35kt winds. It was a real relief to get behind a breakwater. Stan talked us in and Todd handled us at the dock. Very professional and competent. its on the coreect side of the harbor for us going north. Would definitely stay here again.

Great Location In Charleston, 2013-05-02
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (180)

I spent 6 months at Charleston Harbor Marina. Everyone was very kind and did what they could to accommodate my needs. Stan the Dock master was great to work with. With the hotel shuttle I was able to get to the stores for food and other supplies. The drivers of the shuttle went out of their way to help get you to your location. It made the month without a car go by fast. You do need to work arrivals bases on slack tide. The current on the Cooper River is strong and being in a large marina with lots of boats; well it help to come in at slack tide. My next trip south will include a stay at Charleston Harbor Marina.

Good Alternative to City Marina, 2013-04-30
Captain: , Roseland, NJ (322)

We had the good luck to arrive here at slack water with a favorable wind so docking was not an issue. With different conditions it could be a bit of a challenge. Linehandlers were competent. Had an informal dinner at the hotel, decent food. Showers and heads were clean and laundry was efficient. Mentioned Active Captain and got a 15% discount. No water taxi pass though but the hotel shuttle works fine.

Helpful Staff, Free Trolley to Downtown, 2013-04-27
Captain: , Washington, N.C. (33)

Everyone on the staff was very helpful during our visit in October. We especially liked Stan, the dockmaster, who even gave us a ride to West Marine in Mount Pleasant. It's easy to take the resort trolley or a water taxi to downtown Charleston. The trolley driver went out of his way to take us to a restaurant that wasn't on his normal path.
We stopped again on our return north in April 2013, and again we found the staff helpful, especially Stan, the harbormaster. The trolley is a convenient way to get to downtown Charleston and Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant. The only downside is the weird showers. They are tiny, and there is not much room to dry off and change. Surprisingly, it may be more convenient for transients to stay here than in the Charleston marina, because it is quite a walk from the marina to the market area.

Great marina, 2013-04-10
Captain: , Treasure Island, FL. (60)

We came in here not sure of how long we would stay. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. We were on the inside of the ext. dock. It can get a little rolling at times but it was not bad and our view was fantastic. We enjoyed it so much we stayed the week. Stan went beyond any expectation in making our stay pleasant.

Service with a View, 2013-04-10
Captain: , Edisto Island, SC (110)

Excellent service from harbormaster and dock hands. The view of Charleston and the harbor from the transient dock is unbeatable. Currents are strong, so approach with caution and perhaps wait for slack times. We'll be back next time we're in Charleston.

Nice but rolly, 2013-04-10
Captain: , Bear, DE (230)

We spent a couple nights on the outer transient dock, and there was quite a bit of wave and current movement. The outer dock is a long walk to the office, bathrooms, restaurant, etc. However, the unobstructed view of Charleston Harbor is fantastic!

We ate in both restaurants, which were okay but not great. The staff members we met in the marina office, hotel front desk, fuel dock, and restaurants were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed walking the docks to see the aircraft carrier and submarine.

Not as Good as the Last Time, 2013-04-07
Captain: , Fort Pierce Florida (300)

Stayed here over Thanksgiving last fall and had a great time and everything was great. Stopped on our way north and were disappointed. After we called as we approached the marina and were assured that help would be waiting we had to circle for awhile until they got there. After we tied up the dockhands left and said the office was closed and that they would be back with the paperwork. The returned a little later and we filled out the form and they left with our credit card to run it. After awhile they came back with the card and the receipt. We never did have to sign so we're not sure what they had to take the card. They gave us no information like wifi code, etc. We were located at the end of A dock which is a long way from the heads and the rest of the marina and resort. There were birds everywhere and the concrete of the dock was almost completely white with bird poop. Maybe not their fault, but it still wasn't a great stay.

Great Service, 2013-04-03
Captain: , Charleston SC (35)

We brought our PDQ 41 Power Cat to Charleston this week from Stuart Fl and are delighted with the marina service! This will be our home port for now. Stan and team are great! Also out in K land where current is strong but made it to dock safe and sound. Our first time as Cruisers. Mike and Laura--Carolina Cat

This is where we maintain our home slip . . ., 2013-03-13
Captain: , Charleston, SC (284)

This is where we dock our boat.

The marina es extremely large, but the main transient dock has easy access to the marina office, showers, laundry, hotel, bar & restaurant, pool, hot tub, free trolley to and from downtown. Wifi and water is included. The fuel dock can really only handle two large-ish vessels at a time, but is directly inside the breakwaters with easy access.

They are currently in process of building new facilities and performing maintenance upgrades, so the next season or two might not reflect the level of fit and finish that will be achieved when completed.

The showers are small but clean and decent. The laundry . . . is there. Grocery and liquor stores are plentiful and nearby, but still far enough to need a ride. The hotel trolley will occasionally, time permitting, take you for sundries, but dont count on it. However, if we're here, people have helped us in the past and we would be happy to help you. There are a few other liveaboards who are usually willing to give a hand as well.

Sightseeing is plentiful with the Patriots Point maritime museum next door with tours of the warships and the Fort Sumter ferry.

* Special Note 1 *
Large vessel commercial freight traffic is extremely frequent passing this marina and caution should be taken at all times navigating the shipping channel. We live here, and they still sneak up on us once in a while.

* Special Note 2 *
Tide current will take your docking ego and shred it. Quickly. It is large and in charge. Be careful and take no unnecessary chances.

You will very much enjoy your stay. Don't forget to shoot us a note :-)

Very good marina, 2013-03-05
Captain: , Hamilton (338)

Stayed here with our 44' catamaran June - Sept 2012. Only issue is that multihulls are put in "K-land" which is a good 10 mins walk to the office and facilities. V. good docks and excellent service/facilities. Current in the area is strong.

Good service, nice resort, 2013-02-17
Captain: , Coquina Harbor (20)

Staff very attentive to our needs. They help us to find people for repair our engine.

Good Harbor, 2013-02-04
Captain: , Nyack, NY (556)

We docked here instead of anchoring out as we usually do, due to the poor weather. The full length concrete floating docks are well protected from the strong current found in the two local rivers. The dockhands were skilled and helpful. (The last two comments, in response to problems we had found at the Mega Dock.) The location at Patriots Point and a resort are plusses. Although you are far from "Old Charleston", there is a free trolly ride ro the tourist area available, and you can be droped off at a market. I found the showers nicely decorated and clean, but tiny. I had to wrap myself in a towel and go outside to the mens to get dressed. The jacuzzi was nice, but I had to change to my swim suit in the open, as it is designed for hotel guests who have thier rooms to change in. Also the jacuzi & pool is outdoors and the pool isn't heated. Of course this made it easy to change as the area was deserted.

Great location & staff, 2013-01-07
Captain: , Westbrook, CT (10)

Enjoyed the onsite Nature Trail and the nearby provisioning at Whole Foods and Trader Joes. We walked, rode their trolley or took the public bus. The staff was always there to help whenever we had a question or need. We'll be back...Thanks Stan & staff!

Great Stop!, 2013-01-06
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (197)

Can't say enough about these guys! They want us cruisers and it shows. They answered the radio on the first try, something I can't say for City Marina. Guided me to my slip and made the effort to place me opposite the current. Current is not as strong as the Ashley River side. Waves from passing ships were almost entirely eliminated by the docks and breakwater. Docks are first rate with (4) 50 amp outlets at our slip. Facilities are spotless. Access to Charleston I thought might be an issue but the every two hours trolly was really very convenient. We will be back. Be sure and mention Active Captain and get the 10% discount.

Great people, location, service, 2012-12-04
Captain: , Washington, DC (435)

This is a first class facility with moderate pricing. It's a resort as well a as a marina and visiting boaters are welcome to the pool and hot tub as well as the bar and restaurant. They have great showers, nice people, easy fuel dock access; one nit is they could use more lanudry facilites but it's a very small nit and we'd stay again in a minute. 3 Miles to Trader Joe's, West Marine and a good Hardware Store and Water Taxi service. Highly recommended.

Great location, 2012-11-28
Captain: , Oriental (270)

We stayed here Nov. 8-11. It is huge! The docks are very nice, floating docks and the locals are very friendly.

The bath house/restrooms are a hike from your berth. The toilets and sinks are in one room then the showere are in 4 separate closets. They are cute but very difficult to shower and dry and dress in without anywhere to sit down.

The laundry (two wash and dry) are located just outside the bath/shower romms and there is a nice table their for folding.

The docks are connected to the Patriot Point Naval & Maritime Museum docks my husband really enjoyed visiting. The whole are is very biking and running friendly. There is a 'nature' trail from the marina area and there is a biking/walking trail over the big bridge over the Cooper River allowing easy access to Charleston.

Not Much Off Season, 2012-11-22
Captain: , Somers Point (460)

First of all, the difficulty of coming in and out of this place is true. Ebb is much harder than the flood. we came in mid November and the weather was bad. The water taxi stopped running the day we arrived and the weather was awful anyway. Would have had much better experience if we had sun. The shuttle to Charleston was fantastic and the restaraunt on site is also quite good for a hotel. Not sure if we will return unless it is in season.

Great Find, 2012-11-14
Captain: , Hampton, VA (10)

We intended to stay 2 nights but ended up staying 4 nights due to weather. We got the discounted rate at $1.94/ft for mentioning ActiveCaptan. We were very pleased with the marina, staff, and facilities. Was able to catch up on laundry at a reasonable cost.. $1.75 for washer and was able to use their dryer for free! The free shuttle service to downtown Charleston was also an added treat. We will definitely be back!

Great Stay, 2012-11-12
Captain: , Pleasant Prairie, WI (40)

We spent three nights here and enjoyed ourselves very much. We found the marina staff friendly and helpful. We used their shuttle to get to the grocery store and another time to get into downtown Charleston. Modern, clean and resort like marina.

Very convienient marina, 2012-11-10
Captain: , New York (483)

This is a very good marina in the Charelston area. Free "trolly" every 2 hours to Charelston, and hourly water taxi also available. Since it is also a Resort, it has a pool, restaurant and nearby activites. We had a great stay here.

Great stop, 2012-11-04
Captain: , Rock Hall, Md (230)

This was a great location for touring Charleston. The USS Yorktown and other ships were right next to the marina. Ferry to Fort Sumpter was also there. The free trolley stopped at the adjoining hotel to take us into town. We even got free passes for the water taxi. The only thing keeping me from giving this marina a 5 are the small showers.

Charleston Harbour Resort Marina, 2012-11-04
Captain: , London (342)

Fast current in marina during spring tides. Easy entrance & helpful staff. Floating docks are a long walk from the car park park with shopping or heavy items but there are carts available. Restaurant / bar is smart serving what apperas to be a "non boaty" lunch crowd. This facility is good for local boat users with direct access to the harbour. The hotel is smart and could offer a respite from a journey and is close to the boat and with a hire car a good place to explore Charleston...at a cost. The office do not welcome liveaboards and the transiant rates are expensive.

NEVER, ever, ever, again!, 2012-11-04
Captain: , Key West, FL (748)

Never again will I pay the higher prices to stay at the Mega Dock at the City Marina, now that we have discovered this gem of a marina! Thanks, ActiveCaptain, for putting us on to this one. Great staff, great permanent slip-holders, TONS of things to do, great transportation to wherever we wanted to be. And, even resort priveleges for the hot tub, pool, etc. We hiked, biked, went to great museums (USS Yorktown, sub, destroyer, Medal of Honor exhibit, etc.), ran to parks, when to great restaurants, took the free-pass water taxi to the city for the Farmer's Market and King Street shopping, and even found a great wholesale shrimp outlet on Shem Creek. Try this out. You'll like it.

PS: Only downside is the same for all of these marinas: if you have a full keel you will want to give special attention to the current when manuevering in the fairways of the floating dock system. You will be heading sideways towards those other boats!!

Great transit stop, 2012-10-31
Captain: , Mystic, CT (22)

Logical layout for showers and heads, no delay due to someone showering. Dock attendants are very experienced. Bicycle to two shopping centers, Harris Teeter and Fresh Market. Good protection from easterlies and effective breakwter for westerlies. Stayed here for Sandy with good protection. Very helpful and professional dockmaster and staff. Locals very helpful. Shuttle to C'ston and other places of interest.

Always stop here, 2012-10-25
Captain: , New York (50)

Nice marina, shuttle service to downtown.

In Comparision !, 2012-10-23
Captain: , New Bern,nc (75)

Very good marina ! Compared to City Marina, it has it beat. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is it's showers. They are so small but plenty of hot water. You must go to the mans or ladies room to shave or blow dry your hair respectively. The boat hardly moves in its slip. Therefore, good sleeping conditions. All other aminities are similar to an outstanding marina.

Tried based on Active Captain Recommendation, 2012-10-14
Captain: , Eau Gallie, FL (339)

What a surprise. How could such a large marina be so personable, pay so much attention to each transient visitor? Somehow they did just that. Arrived at 9 pm on a Friday night. Herman answered on the radio as we arrived at the marina, giving directions to our slip. He met us at the slip and took a line, as we arrived in a two knot current, but had no trouble tying up. Other reports of broken electrical pylons applied to the north breakwater dock, little used. Our power and water were fine.
The next day we introduced ourselves to Stan, the dockmaster. He was very attentive and professional. We didn't feel like just another number at a huge marina. And this marina is quite large and connected to a resort hotel. The hotel had a shuttle trolley that took us to the center of old Charleston, leaving the hotel every two hours. Also was taken to a nearby grocery store (Harris Teeter when I asked for a ride. The driver, Hank, was not busy at the time and even waited outside, taking me back to the hotel when I was finished. Great service, as we, in T-shirts and shorts, were treated just as nicely as the patrons of the hotel in suits and cocktail dresses. What a nice surprise.
Lastly, don't forget to mention to Stan if you are military, or retired military He'll give special attention.
Although seemingly exposed, there was little to no wave motion or effect from the current while at the slip, and as mentioned in previous reviews, the views were excellent. Touring the Carrier Yorktown is highly recommended.
I stayed at the City Marina previously, but Charleston Harbor is now my favorite place to stay, and we'll definitely be back. Many thanks to Stan, Emily, Norman, Savannah at the hotel front desk, Hank, and several other resort personnel whose names I can't remember. And a BIG thanks to Active Captain for the timely email recommendation!

Decent Marina, 2012-08-30
Captain: , Palm Beach, FL (133)

Arrived here 08/18/2012 and stayed for three days. The marina is nice, and the staff is very friendly, but shorthanded. We came in around 17:00 and there was only one dock person at the fuel dock and the harbor master. We had to wait for the harbor master to come down and help us in.

As other have said, the current can be very strong. There are water taxis that come and go until about 22:00, and if you are on A or B dock, you will rock a little every time they come in or go out.

The docks are in good shape, with full length fingers. The fingers are a little narrow, but not really a problem.

The wifi is spotty to poor. You can connect, by don't to get to the internet. The connection keeps dropping and is VERY slow, 1-2mb at best.

We were docked at the end of B dock and the power was marginal at best. We were getting about 205V. Had to run a second 50a line to handle what I usually use only one line for.

Stan, the harbor master could not have been more accommodating and really went out of his way to help with anything we needed. He is by far the best thing about CHM.

There is no cable tv and depending on where you are docked it can be a long walk to the restaurant or office.

Comfortable Marina, 2012-07-12
Captain: , little river (269)

We came in July 7 and stayed until the 11. Very friendly helpful staff, but they assumed we need 50 amp and were placed in a slip with no 30 amp outlet. They had no adaptor and no offer for a ride to West Marine about 5 miles away. A resident of the marina gave me a ride.
The docks are good shape but the power pedistals need maintainence. The showers are seperate from the restroom, no changing room, requiring you to go outside to the restroom to shave ect. The restrooms are public and are cleaned they have a lot of traffic and do not remaine clean. There is a free shuttle over to Charleston each 2 hours with the last return at 10:15. When in Charleston eat at Hymans, go early. This is more than a 3 star but for the price less than 4.

Great Marina, 2012-06-20
Captain: , Barrytown (60)

We stopped to get out of "Beryll" a couple of weeks ago - we are always positively surprised about the friendly, welcoming, and really charming hospitality. (living NE)
Great marina, excellent place for a stop-over, good services, easy to get into Charleston. Definitely recommended.

A great alternative to the City marina, 2012-05-24
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1915)

Great location; easy access into downtown via the water taxi or the trolley. The trolley is free; the water taxi is not. The trolley will run you out to the Bridge (for exercise or whatever), into downtown Charleston, out to Shem Creek or to the mall in Mt Pleasant. Complimentary USA Today newspapers are available at the marina office or hotel desk. The Reel Bar has Happy Hour 5-7 PM M-F with $3.00 glasses oh house wine (which was not bad), $1 off all bottled beer or $1 off all liquors. They also gave a 10% marina discount on our bill. The marina also had monthly activities - check with the marina office for dates. This is the second time we've skipped the City Marina and chosen Charleston Harbor. This could easily become our marina of choice in Charleston in the future.

One of a kind, 2012-04-03
Captain: , Southport, NC (916)

Charleston Harbor Marina is not sheltered from the wind but has a fantastic breakwater that keeps the harbor relatively tranquil for the location. If weather is schedule to be nice I would recommend A-dock. There is nothing quite like waking up to an unobstructed view of sunrise, Fort Sumter, and the Atlantic Ocean. There are very, very long walks to the resort, pool, bathrooms etc so not a bad idea to have a dock bike.

The Reel Bar has a great menu and staff as well.

Fourth of July, 2012-01-26
Captain: , Wrightsville, NC (270)

This is the best destination for the Fourth of July. During our week stay last year the area near the Yorktown hosted a community festival. Events were capped off by a stunning fireworks show fired from the Yorktown deck. It was nice to observe the show from the boat and retire for the evening without fighting the boat traffic.

Currents are extremely strong, as you are located on the mouth of the harbor. Due to the size of the marina, showers can be a long walk. The views are stunning any any direction. All staff have been exceptionally helpful and courteous.

A little exposed but great staff, 2011-12-16
Captain: , N. Myrtle Beach (343)

What a view! Transient dockage is across the harbor from Charleston and the sunsets are spectacular. Be prepared for wind and current as this is an exposed area. Staff has a great attitude and are very helpful with all issues. Best docks around as they are secured by huge chains and anchors and there are no poles to dodge. Very solid!

Best marina in Town, 2011-12-12
Captain: , Morristown, NJ (383)

Left the boat there for 3 weeks during the Thanksgiving holiday. Had a great rate ,thanks to Kristen and Dave Buckley. We never felt out of touch for the main city of Charleston for the Trolley would take us and pick us up right into the Market place. The marina staff are excellent. Very courteous and helpful. Always inquiring if you are in need of anything. Showers and laundry are always clean. Very close to the USS Yorktown and a WW11 submarine for touring. The bar and pool amenities at the resort are top-notch. We woiuld definitely come back again.

First rate marina, 2011-11-14
Captain: , Denver NC (329)

This is a first rate marina. The concrete docks are stable and nice. The current flows through at a pretty fast clip. The view of the bridge is nice and the marsh is beautiful. The facilities are clean and nice.

Clean showers (3-4), 2 washers and driers, friendly staff and gorgeous location. Couldnt be happier

Great Staff, 2011-11-09
Captain: , Houston (774)

Per the previous reviews the staff here is great. They could not have been more accomodating. The hotel has a free shuttle to downtown Charleston. The facility is starting to decline. There were several power pedistals that were laying on their side. I had internet signal but could not access the internet. I did not try the TV cable. The current can be a problem docking but the staff comes to the slip to help when you arrive.

Time to eat crow, 2011-11-04
Captain: , Portsmouth (163)

My previous review, just a few weeks ago, was on our experience here two years ago. Well, God, karma or what ever as we all knows has a great sense of humor. On our way out of Charleston, having stayed at another marina, we developed a fuel starvation problem, fairly close to Charleston Harbor Marina. Marshall of Marsh Marine, whom I can highly recommend, was conviently at Charleston Harbor Marina when we called. So we beelined it over to the marina on one engine. Two dock hands were ready to assist and put us in a spot that made our one engine handling (we are a cat) easy. We only needed two hours with Marsh marine to get our problem fixed (watch carefully how you install Racor Turbo filters, they have one way valves on them). Anyway, the Harbormaster at Charleston Harbor Marina (Captain Stan T. Jones) declined to take a payment for our use of his dock. He said that he enjoys helping boaters, in need, whenever possible. We were facing a weather window, or we would have stayed. So next time that I am in Charleston, I will definately stay there and see if the internet has improved as much as the service has.

Thanks.

Marina evaluation, 2011-07-20
Captain: , Dover, Delaware (30)

My wife and I have made 5 round trips from South Carolina to New England. The Charleston Harbor Marina is under new management and it shows in the service and amenities. The latter includes use of the hotel pool, spa and other such amenities. Docking and undocking was assisted by knowledgeable and courteous staff.

The good and the bad....., 2011-07-01
Captain: , Charleston, SC (80)

As a tenant of the marina I thought I would add some comments reagarding our marina. There are good points and there are bad points. First the good....

We have a fantastic Harbor Master/Marina Manager and he is doing absolutely everything he can to keep things up and provide good customer service. The marina has easy access to Charleston via free shuttle bus or paid water taxi and the views are hands down the best of any marina in the area. In addition they do have a pump out boat which makes things very convenient for those of us that don't like to constantly move our boats to the fuel dock for a pump out. There is also access to the hotel/resort where there is a pool, hot tub, and decent bar.

Now the downside....

Forget high speed internet access....or hardly any internet access at all. The owners refuse to pay to have the system fixed and so there is no access. Same thing with cable TV...there might be 4 or 5 channels but that has been down for 2 years and again the owners refuse to fix it. There is no marina store or place closeby to get anything but they do sell beer, ice and soft drinks - but ice is $6.00 per small bag. The fuel prices are by far the highest in the area. Forget about dock carts....there are about 8 for the 400+ slips and again the owners refuse to buy more.

So why do we stay? Well the plus's and the minus's about equal out for us and we have great friends here so we stay. It could easily be the premier marina in the area with just a small infusion of capitol but the owners only care about the resort. That is why tenant occupancy has gone from about 95% three years ago to about 65% now and continues to drop.

We stayed here in November of 2011. The staff was available to help us into our spot along the inside of the break wall. The showers are nice. There is a shuttle that takes you into town every hour or so. Taxis are not that expensive to get into town either. The bar/restaurant is average, ok if you are staying there but not really worth the trip otherwise. The aircraft carrier is pretty cool to visit.

Fantastic (except for internet speed)., 2011-05-12

Great stop. Easy to get everywhere with free shuttle or the water taxi. No bouncing around on these docks. They are floating as well as the breakwater. Interesting concept with the breakwater and it seems to work just fine.

Staff was great and we were able to get a %20 discount by staying at Thunderbolt Marina on the way up.

Internet from the marina was free, but agonizingly slow (uses the old "B" standard as opposed to G or N.) The hotel is better, but drinks and food in the bar are expensive. Very good, but pricey.

We will be back.

Fantastic Marina, 2011-04-15

This belated entry is to report our stay from 11/12/10-2/22/11 involving leaving the boat unattended for several long periods during bad weather, and uncertain departure schedule couldn't have been better. The dockmaster and staff were always ready to help with any issues, including getting parts from West Marine to the boat, receiving mail, etc. While away, I could always check the harbor cam to see how the weather might be affecting the boat, and the marina staff kept an eye out for any problems. The available free shuttle to Downtown Charleston makes it possible to enjoy the resort atmosphere at the marina and still take advantage of the sites and sounds of old Charleston - a delightful city. The shuttle passes right by a Harris Teeter supermarket in Charleston. We were completely satsfied with the facility and the service.

we did a 2 night say as to enjoy some of charlestown. They have a shuttle service to bring you into the shopping area that has lots of resturants and some of the best shopping we have found. We will return to Charleston on our way back north Great City. They also have bikes available for use.
The current can be a bit tricky though.

Great place but watch the current when docking., 2011-02-02

We stayed here a month. Although it looks exposed, we had no objectionable roll or wake even though it blew a sustained 35 knots one day. Beautiful sunsets over Charleton. Great views of the huge container ships sliding by just off the docks.

If it's not slack tide, do be very careful with the current when docking. It's very likely that you will be moving sideways at 1 to 2 knots as you go down the fairway to your slip. Unfortunately, the docks aren't moving sideways!

Nice View of the City, 2010-11-23

The Bahamas fleet from the Caribbean 1500 spent time here this year because of off shore weather. Stayed on the outer dock with a great view of the city. Pay attention to the tidal current but marina staff helpful. Water taxie to city is nice. A little isolated but marina and hotel staff helpful. Would definately stay here again.

4th of July weekend, 2010-07-24
Captain: , Charleston (15)

Spent about 8 days here total and enjoyed it. We were placed on the breakwater initially due to the Govenors Cup fishing series, but decided to stay there since it offered the best view possible of the fireworks on the 4th. The wireless signal was in and out on the far breakwater and there were no trash cans except at the head of the dock (which was a long walk for us), but overall it was a enjoyable stay. Much easier to get in and out than City Marina, but the current does whip through the marina.

Stay somewhere else!, 2010-07-06
Captain: , Wrightsville Beach, NC (368)

Just returned from a trip to Charleston and stayed at this marina. 1/2 of electrical post didn't work, none of the cable TV connections worked, internet was spotty, at best, and the staff was not trained very well, and also couldn't have cared less. After waiting 14 hours for a pumpout, I left the slip at 9PM, went over to the fuel dock and did it myself, and then went back into the slip. The only reason we tried this marina this time was because of the pool. Not a big enough reason. Stay at the City Marina or Ashley marina. I

Great views, good protection, 2010-05-25
Captain: , Miami, fl (3544)

Having stayed at the city marina a few times, I decided to try Charleston Harbor since forecast called for 15 to 20kts. With all the slips inside and breakwater at the entrance, it has much better protection from chop and from the wakes.

Current is no worst than at the other marinas and the staff is very helpful.

very nice view of the city and bridge, as well as the aircraft carrier.

expected more, 2009-11-10
Captain: , Fort Myers (749)

This marina is in a great location however the tides rip through making docking challenging at times other than slack tide. At our slip, the 50 amp power and cable TV did not work. For the premium we paid to stay here, we expected more. ($2.15/foot)

There is a free trolley shuttle over to Charleston and there are many restaurants and groceries nearby. West Marine is three miles away and there is a Walmart/Home Depot right up the road.

Watch the current, 2009-11-08

As other reviewers have said, very nice facility. First timers should note that marina was built in open water surrounded by a a floating breakwater. The breakwater works quiet well for protection from waves but currents from the Wando and Cooper Rivers can make the current here fierce at times. Pay attention to current and tide tables and evrvery thing will be fine.

A great place, 2008-11-21

This place is really great, I've stayed in the marina twice and on the carrier beside it twice as well it is a fairly small marina but that lends itself to neighborly security, the folks there are generally a fun curious bunch that are very friendly.

NICE MARINA-PARK IN THE SHADOW OF USS YORKTOWN, 2008-05-31
Captain: , Hollywood, MD (142)

Very nice marina. Pool/Jacuzzi/Fuel. Cable does not work on face dock. WIFI also inop-they had been having problems for a while. USS Yorktown right next door-got a picture of my boat with it in the background. Nothing else around. It is a resort all by itself. Restaurant and bar on site.
