Approach

The approach to Cedar River is well marked, but care must be used. In 2006 and 2007 the river was dredged to a depth of between 8' and 10'. In the spring the river approach has been known to shallow with silt and logs, but the commercial fishing fleet tends to keep it open once they begin operation. Begin your approach from the Green 1 headed Northwest toward the channel markers not the pier heads. Stay to the center of the marked channel. Depth outside the channel shallows to 1'-2'. Once inside the pier heads and in the river proper, continue to stay to the middle of the river, watching for the marina to the East, before the launching ramps and the bridge. Once you make the turn into the marina, the depth remains more consistant.

Reviews for Cedar River State Harbor
Only in a storm, 2015-07-31

This marina is like a church built for Easter Sunday. High quality docks, lots of them. But it is treated like a forgotten step child. Only one employee on site, and to chase her down. Minimal service and facilities needed a good cleaning. The dockage rates are bunched because they can't price per foot. A 46 foot boat is priced the same as a 60 footer, $82.00 per foot.

Top notch!, 2014-06-09

Great People here! Bring your own fun, but very relaxing, and very accommodating.

Wonderful, relaxing marina off the beaten path, 2011-02-16
Captain: , Quarterdeck Marina (117)

(Relatively) new, excellent marina. Unfortunate that it's not closer to get to. Kind of like going "camping" since you are so isolated you need to bring your own entertainment.

Staff is friendly and goes out their way to assist you (because the marina is 95% empty most weekends). Fire pit (with wood provided) and horseshoe pit. 1-2 bars/restaurants and a gas station nearby, but that's about it.
Nice river to dinghy up and state park (Wells) 1 mile up the shoreline.
Lots of peace and quiet, but lots of fun for a small group how can create your own good times.

If you are looking for a quiet Northwoods getaway on the water, Cedar River will suit you well. The staff is about as friendly as they can be. I think they are actually happy to see people. This marina is very underutilized. I have not seen more than a couple dozen boats there at any one time. The facilities are among the cleanest I have used in 17 years cruising. Both local restaurants serve good basic food and are within a 10 min. walk. The marina offers free use of the bicycles they keep there. The only negative can be the truck traffic on M-35 at night if there is a West wind.
