Reviews for Casper's Marina
Unhelpful and unpleasant operation, 2017-08-01
Captain: , Carolina Beach, NC (70)

It's a convenient stop, but that's about it. The docks are fixed rather than floating, and if you're in a larger boat (we're 38 feet), they put you on the face dock where you get sloshed and banged around all evening.

We were running late, so I called...very unpleasant old lady answered and informed us that if we couldn't get there by 5pm we should find somewhere else to stay. I pointed out that I had made a reservation 2 months ago, her reply was "Well, I can't wait on you". OK.

We punched it and arrived 4:40pm...dock hands weren't much help, we mostly tied ourselves up. Two young, strong dock hands simply stood there and watched my tiny little lady friend struggle with a 50lb power cord...I said "guys, don't just stand there, help the lady for God's sake".

It was a covenient stop, but I wouldn't stay there again unless I had to. Dudley's would likely be worth the walk across the bridge.

The only good things I can say are 1) it was cheap, 2) it's a block from several restaurants, and 3) it's right on the ICW.

A good experience, 2017-07-08
Captain: , Charleston, SC (250)

Arrived late afternoon - were met by two experienced dock hands. The lady in the office could not have been more helpful and pleasant. My experience was not like others listed here!

go some where else Caspers, 2017-05-19
Captain: , Lighthouse Point, FL (100)

Got held up by live fire close of ICW. Called and explained. Got called back not willing to await our arrival 6:15. Supposedly already have full dock Called Dudley welcome. There were no boats at Caspers

Very sorry to report being told to go elsewhere if unhappy, 2016-12-30
Captain: , New Bern, NC (10)

Apparently something has changed at this marina. Rather than describe the phone/vhf interactions I will only say that between my ears and their words, I was very confused and expressed that. I was then told loudly to go elsewhere if not happy. Guess the "customer is always right" did not apply. Asking for access to the shower, i was told to see the dock hands - who were not to be seen further. Granted the marina had just opened again after the holidays, and i was the lone customer but wow.. after a long day getting there before a 4pm closure and 35 years of crusing the ICW that was a first. Never again. (Nor do i expect to be allowed after this post.)

Good and Bad, 2016-06-22
Captain: , Sunset Beach, NC (1146)

We stopped here only because our cruising guide said that they had a pumpout facility. When I asked about it I was discouraged from doing it and the office lady said "I don't handle that, you have to ask them. They hate doing it so they might not feel like it."

That means the dock boys who mainly handle forklifting boats in and out of the water. We were told to go to the new City dock for a $5 pumpout instead of $20 here, and I would have gladly paid $20 since we were completely full. This kind of We Don't Really Want To Help You attitude is not what we're used to in these small towns.

Three stars only because the town is nice, but the fixed docks require some work to get fendered up and the local boats will wake you all day in the summer. If I'm going to get waked I'll go to Dudley's where it is only $.75 / foot. Next time we'll skip this and go to Swan Point where they go out of their way to do anything they can to help.

Lack of Southern Hospitality, 2016-06-15
Captain: , Southport, NC (120)

While traveling to Beaufort, NC, on Sunday, June 5, 2016, we contacted Casper's Marina at 1:00 pm. They said that they closed at 6:00 pm and requested we call back after clearing the Onslow Beach Bridge. We called back after the bridge with an eta of 5:15 pm only to be informed that they were leaving at 5:00 pm and would not wait for us. We stayed at Dudley's and noticed that there was not a single boat at Casper's. Southern Hospitality?

Casper,s marina. convienant stop, 2015-12-18
Captain: , Norfolk, Va (195)

Phoned a day early for a slip for a few days to ride out a cold front. Helpful dock folks getting in in a strong current. Connected to electric, good to go. Cable carriers have changed in the area, no cable tv. Restrooms/ shower locked at closing time. Walked to Piggly Wiggly (0.8 miles), Not offered a ride as others suggest. The facilities are kept neet and clean. Overall good place to stop.

Good stop..., 2015-12-06
Captain: , Philadelphia, PA (141)

Swansboro is a great stop and this marina makes it cost effective. Great price for clean, basic amenities and easy walking distance to a great town. No laundry though - just keep that in mind. Also, current runs strong through here and this marina offers little protection from ICW traffic.

Great ICW Stop, 2015-11-26
Captain: , Oriental, NC (190)

We stayed here twice for several nights. The young men on the dock are fantastic and will do anything to assist. The facilities are well maintained and the grounds are neat and orderly. They take pride in their business. A real plus is that you are "in town" with numerous choices of restaurants and shops.

M/V Major Award

Nice Marina., 2015-11-23
Captain: , Apponaug R.I. (908)

This is a nice clean marina. The 2 young men who workhere are wonderful. When I asked for a dock cart I was informed they did not have any. One of the young men carried everthing for me. That's better than a cart. The only drawback is wakes from the ICW

Easy resting point on ICW, 2015-11-04
Captain: , London (709)

Pull over here for a night or two, the docks are fixed but only a small tide. helpfull staff and an easy to explore town with interesting stores and a few restaurants.
The price is right and the peole are nice, we stayed here going north and again two weeks ago going south

Wonderful town, marina a great gateway, 2015-10-24
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7374)

June 2012 review: Fixed T-dock a little exposed to passing wakes, just off the main ICW channel. Lots of help docking into a strong current. Clean restrooms & shower (just one.) Marina adjacent to very nice small town shops and several restaurants. Whlle not a lot at the marina, it rates a 4 due to location, cleanliness, and helpful staff.

October 2015 review: Mostly the same as 2012. Still good fuel prices. Restrooms not as well maintained (out of paper towels and not especially clean) Power supply showing its age, had trouble with one of the 30 amps outlets.

Nice Town and Marina, 2015-07-17
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (60)

We were a bit hesitant to stay right on the ICW due to the traffic and wakes but once we got to the marina they put us on the inside dock and all was good. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. We arrived Sunday night so we got to watch a free concert at the town park - it was a great time and a very nice town. We will be back again.

Casper's Water, 2015-06-16
Captain: , Galesville, MD (192)

With regard to water on the docks, Caspers has "well water" and "potable water," which they also referred to as "metered water." Potable/metered is actually city water. Make sure you tell them which you want, as potable/metered/city is not available on all their docks.

excellent staff, 2015-06-03
Captain: , Buffalo (1154)

The staff stayed late since we arrived after usual closing time, then helped us cast off the next morning in pouring rain.
Fxed wood docks in good repair. Good wifi, and nice showers and bathrooms. We will be back

Nice overnight stop, 2015-05-07
Captain: , Deltaville VA (121)

Great friendly atmosphere. Easy in and out. Good dock hands. Quaint town. We had great dinner at Saltwater Grill. No laundry or electricity in shower, but all in all a very nice stop. This was our second time here and will come back. For what is here, it is nice.

Very good marina, 2015-04-26
Captain: , Galesville, MD (1341)

So convenient to the ICW. We were there two nights on the inside of the T head, easy in and easy out. Great guys help with lines. Very good internet. Nice town. We would come back.

Good stop, not as good as some but good enough, 2015-04-22
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1804)

Had excellent help docking, some current at dock and exposed to easterly winds. Fixed docks, about a 3 1/2 ft tide. Ate a Yang's for breakfast amazing fritters and great breakfast. Ice House for dinner was good. Bank of America a mile away. Good town for walking or biking. Not too much shopping but some. Capers is OK, dirt instead of concrete when you get off docks, was rainy so was muddy. Not sure about showers, heads OK. Small ships store on site for very basic needs. Fuel available. Something odd about water on the dock, we did not use there water.

GREAT TOWN, 2015-04-19
Captain: , YORKTOWN, VA (383)

Caspers is not a paticularly friendly or helpful place any more. There were no lights in the shower and they didn'tn seem to care . But if you want to visit a nice little town with interesting stores and restauarnts, you haven't got much of a choice. If you have time have a great breckfast a Yana's on the main drag.

Easy In, Nice Staff, 2015-04-16
Captain: , Havre de Grace, MD (244)

After a tough day with lots of shoals and too much cold wind, we were pleased to land here. Dock hands were right here to help us in, and they were good at their job. The facility is basic but very clean and well maintained. The shower is basic but convenient. We were handed a map of the town with places to go. In town, we stopped in for a couple bottles of wine at Bake, Bottle, ane Brew where they had a nice selection. Dinner was at the Boro which had a very good tapas style menu. All in all, a nice one-night stop.

Caspers Maiina -- basic, small, but very helpful and freindly, 2015-03-19
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (666)

offers to drive crew to local stores, attentive at the dock, wireless is spotty but in this day and age most of us have mobile networking via our phones.

Revisited heading north on 3/17. Want to note that two large power boats arrived after hours, but folks at Casper's stayed to accomodate them. A sign of good service. Heading north after Topsail and Mason inlets and long bridge waits, Caspers is a welcome stopping place.

Great Stop, 2014-12-08
Captain: , North Charleston, SC (752)

We stayed here a couple nights in June 2014. As mentioned before, it's a little "rustic" but that doesn't bother us.

It's inexpensive, right on the ICW, and it's in a great town. We extended our stay because we enjoyed the town.

Someone mentioned the water. Apparently there are two water sources, one for potable water and one for washing boats, etc.

Staff was friendly and competent.

Nice Stop on the ICW, 2014-11-20
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (310)

The staff could not have been nicer. A awesume stop on the ICW.

good price, nice downtown good location, 2014-09-06
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

Wifi worked , water was broke , but they told me when I called in.
I will be back.
Still $1.25 in 2012 summer
Walkabble to a really neat downtown

water warning, 2014-07-17
Captain: , iuka,ms (222)

the last three reviews r spot on, the only thing i have to add is watch out for the city water, my boat connection has a small drool down the hull and after being connected overnite had left a yellow stain down the side of the boat that looked like yellow paint.. this is not the marinas fault , just an FYI.. diesel was 3.34 on 7/16/14

down home southern hospitality, 2014-06-15
Captain: , Oriental, NC (136)

we booked for two nights and stayed seven. the history lessons from wt and his wife are phenominal. the band at the local Methodist Church at the early service should be selling cd's. catch the ice house restaurant on a weeknight for no crowds and relaxed dining, and yana's for breakfast with apple fritters.

Friendly and helpful, 2014-06-03
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (432)

Rustic facilities but very friendly and helpful folks. This is a great spot to hop off and go into Swansboro, but be advised most transient space is the face dock where you can get waked a bit during the day by local traffic.

Tax not included in posted fuel price., 2014-05-28
Captain: , St. Louis (340)

During a phone call today 5/28/2014 to confirm the current diesel price the person who answered said thediesel price did NOT include the 7% (not 8%) sales tax.the person answering

No Frills Marina, 2014-05-05
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (602)

Casper's is rustic but well placed for a stop on the AICW. We were happy to be tied to Casper's dock to wait out a night of very strong winds. Fixed docks were inconvenient, but sturdy.
Water supplied by a deteriorated old hose to fill your onboard water tank. No thanks.
Pumpout is a portable unit that did not have enough hose to reach the deck fitting on my boat. Dockhand actually commented to me that "it doesn't hurt my feelings that I can't pump you out". At $20 fee for pumpout, it sounds like a missed profit opportunity to me.
Restrooms were adequate. They had just been cleaned using the spray nozzle on the end of a hose method and remained wet until the next morning.
You don't really expect the WIFI to work, do you?

Clean, Attentive Staff, great family business, 2014-04-27
Captain: , Little River, SC (476)

The "grandsons" although young are seasoned dock hands and get you docked, fuled, pumped out, and moved along with ease. Enjoyed our stay on the 24th.

Clean, friendly and inexpensive, 2014-03-28
Captain: , Oxford, MD (810)

This is our sixth stay at Caspers. Susan, WT and their two grandsons are very welcoming and helpful. Twice I have walked to Piggly Wiggly and both times, Susan gave me her cell phone number and said if I bought more than I thought I would, she would come and pick me up! Everything is clean but not fancy. The town is a little gem. Twice while we were here, large boats came in and poached a dock for the night -- showered, walked their dog without picking up after it. The first time we didn't realize what had happened. The second time we called Susan and WT at home. Still can't believe that boaters do this! We do not take advantage of the fancy facilites and pools at resort style marinas. This is our style and we give it a 5 star rating.

Swansboro is sweet, 2013-12-11
Captain: , New Bern, NC (466)

The last time I was here I didn%u2019t get to see anything as we arrived after dark in a storm and anchored out for a sleepless night. This time was a real treat. I had arranged for free dockage, but the communications got twisted so I ended up at Casper%u2019s. Plenty of capable help docking, which for an old man single handing, was a treat. Bathrooms and shower were okay. Small ships store for odds and ends. The town is happening; my friend finely caught up with me and we toured the eateries, pubs, and clubs meeting people and enjoying the food, drinks, and music. All this in walking distance. The town is working on adding a marina and there seems to be a strong waterman influence. I plan on returning and maybe staying.

Great stop, 2013-11-24
Captain: , Stingray Harbour (386)

Great place to hide from the weather. Great food/stores within walking distance. Shower needs some work, not enough water for a long soak, but enough for a shave/quick shower

Quick Stop, 2013-11-10
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (268)

Did not stay overnight here but needed pumpout. Dockhand was excellent at landing boat. Suprise, the pumpout is a dock cart with tank and manual pump. Dock worker hooked up the pumpout hose and hand pumped our holding tank. First time I've encountered this but he was friendly and the service was fast enough. Price for a pumpout is $20 and I would not have stopped if not necessary. Friends who have stayed here recommend it.

All I can say is they were helpful and friendly. Another time, if it suited my schedule, I'd stay overnight.

Courteous, helpful, professional, 2013-11-07
Captain: , algoma, WI (140)

First time stop over, but would stop again. Staff very helpful;facilities very clean; close to eateries and grocery store is about a mile walk. Very good fuel prices $3.52 with tax; only neg is somewhat open to wakes - even though it is a no wake zone........

Great Location, Terrific Town!, 2013-11-06
Captain: , Bayfield, WI and the ICW (1390)

This is an unclaimed treasure of a place to stop. They have the cheapest fuel for miles. Check out the Swansboro Cigar Store, the social gathering spot that you can bring a beverage to and that doesn't require a purchase. Lots of great places to eat.

Caspers Marina, 2013-11-04
Captain: , Quoset Daviseville Naval Yacht Club (250)

4 Stars because it is not a fancy marina with a pool and restaurant on location.

Family run business, friendly and helpful, lots of help with lines and pump-out. Diesel 3.29 gal plus 7% state tax.

Very clean and well maintained bathrooms and showers. Small ship store, Food Lion within easy walking distance. Swansboro is a small but beautiful town worth stopping at. Many restaurants, we ate at Ice House on Monday evening and place was packed with locals.

For ladies on board many neat shops with good quality merchandise and moderate prices. Stores are well decorated in historic buildings.

Everything within easy walking distance from Caspers, not so for other Marina on opposite side of harbour.

Friendly, Convenient stop, 2013-11-03
Captain: , Little River, SC (1987)

We stayed here for 2 days waiting out some weather. The docks are fixed and quite exposed to SW and W winds. They put us inside the face dock and we were OK despite some very strong winds from the west. People were very friendly, experienced dock hands. Convevient to downtown Swansboro with several great restaurants and shops.

What's not to like, 2013-10-26
Captain: , Pasadena,Maryland (510)

Wifi, cable, Piggley-Wiggley within walking distance. Head, showers. All the basics. Price at $1.25 is good. Easy entry into marina. Is a boatel, with a few transient slips.

Cheapest fuel in Town, 2013-10-25
Captain: , Swansboro (674)

Inexpensive fuel.....and great folks.

Transient dockage is convenient to the downtown area.

Highly recommend.

Very surprised at the courtesy and professionalism of Casper's staff. Wonderful city with great restaurants and shopping.

Danish sailors very welcome, 2013-07-04
Captain: , Svendborg (10)

Planned a one day rest stop and ended up staying 3 days. It has a family atmosphere!! Great folks really friendly. Two washrooms and a shower very clean. Docks in good shape biggest problem is a lot of wakes from the small power boats blasting by. Will visit again if in the area.

A nice surprise, 2013-06-14
Captain: , Southport, NC (716)

We pulled in for the cheap diesel and wanted to stay the night and explore the town. The weather was calling for 35 kt winds so we stayed another night. Swansboro has alot to offer cruisers. Caspers was kinda rustic, but the dock hands were very nice and knowledgable. The fixed dock wasnt a problem. We were there during the week so waking wasnt a problem either, but the weekends, one could only imagine. The docks seemed sturdy during the 30-40 kt blow. I only saw a few new boards though. Not a big deal. A very short walk to town. No bikes needed. Marina store seems very well stocked. Only one shower with no ventilation, clean though. Overall we were very satisfied. We will come back.

Inexpensive Stop, 2013-06-02
Captain: , Southport NC (71)

Friendly people but not too savvy for transients tie ups. Cheap fuel and cheap docking but exposed to lots of ICW traffic

Very Helpful, Good Diesel Prices, 2013-05-29
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (907)

We stopped here for fuel and groceries. We had competent help docking. Note the fuel dock face is pilings. Very reasonable fuel prices. It was not busy and the marina let us stay on the dock for long enough to walk to the grocery store, a Piggly Wiggly, about 1.75 miles away. The walk is mostly through a quiet neighborhood, with a little stretch of busy road. It can be safely walked or biked, as there are sidewalks everywhere you need them.
We have stayed here in the recent past and would certainly do so again.

Only stopped for fuel but what a great place, 2013-05-16
Captain: , Destin Florida (430)

We just stopped for fuel but what a marvelous staff they have. It was windy and the curent was running but we recieved explict instructions on how to come in. The dock hands know exactly what's needed. I'd consider staying when we're through here again. Fuel is a bargin.

Skipped the Swansboro Anchorage, 2013-05-04
Captain: , Roseland, NJ (332)

All day long the wind was in the mid 20's gusting 30's and although we have never had a problem anchoring in Swansboro off of Casper's, we were hankering for a good nights sleep. We stayed on the facedock and got off the boat only for water and fuel. Dock guys were great. If it hadn't have been for that creaking dock line we would have gotten our wish.

LIKED THIS PLACE!, 2013-04-29
Captain: , Hampton, VA (581)

Hadn't originally planned to stop in Swansboro, but glad we found this place and stayed! Reasonable docking rates, superb people and the best diesel price I've seen for quite a while! On top of that there were some great restaurants in town as well as a well-stocked cigar store! We will be back for sure!

Basic Marina-Good Folks, 2013-04-26
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (161)

We stayed here on 4.24.13 based upon previous reviews. The dock hands were great and helped us get into a slip on a windy day with moderate current. The office staff was very professional and helpful with maps and advice on restaurants. The office manager guided us in on the radio.

Casper's has old wooden fixed docks. Some of the boards are loose. It is a very basic place to tie up, but the price of docking and fuel can't be beat.

Swansboro was a bit of a disappointment compared to our other stops at Southport and at Georgetown, SC. We ate dinner at The Icehouse, and that was very good.

I would stop at Casper's again for fuel, but if I had a choice to continue on North to Beaufort or Morehead City, I would do it.

Easy in and out, 2013-04-24
Captain: , Athens, AL (641)

This was very convenient stop for us after a long day. They stayed late to assist us. Dock is exposed to east wind and other traffic on the ICW. We refueled here and price was very competitive. They charge $20 for a pumpout, 30 gal limit so we passed (ours is 100 gals). Not much to do in town but the Irish Pub Restaurant was good just a couple of blocks away. Piggly Wiggly is about one mile away.

Casper's Marina, 2013-04-19
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4247)

Small, basic marina providing access to the interesting, little town of Swansboro. Good folks and good condition marina, with few amenities. Docks are exposed, with biggest problem being wakes from the intracoastal where, it seemed, that no one slowed down as they passed. Worthy of a stop, but not high on features.

Easy ICW Access, 2013-04-15
Captain: , Port Royal, SC (231)

Casper's is very easy to access from the ICW, and Swansboro is a great little town to visit. Ice House resturant is terrific and about a 5 minute walk. Docks are fixed with pilings on the exterior so care is needed to protect the hull. Facilities are convenient, but could benefit from some maintenance and cleaning. Nice folks and low cost dockage and diesel.

Great stop, 2013-04-10
Captain: , Reedville, VA (689)

Easy to get to face dock. Staff great, easy walk to town. Good restaurants.

Nice place to stop, 2013-03-29
Captain: , Stafford, VA (1077)

The marina only has a few spots for transients, but it is very convenient to the ICW. It's rocky from wakes during the day but that calms down at dusk. The staff here is very friendly and helpful and the restaurants in town are great.

Basic Marina, 2012-12-12
Captain: , deltaville (90)

Not much to talk about basic Marina. Small town not much close, a few restaurants. Nice enough for overnight, some of the locals could use a brush up on interpersonal communication skills.

Nice marina, 2012-12-11
Captain: , St. John, VI (90)

Nice marina & an easy walk into town. Great seafood market over the bridge. People very friendly & make you feel they appreciate your business.

Friendly Marina Great little town, 2012-11-20
Captain: , Annapolis (125)

We planned on anchoring, but there is little protection from wind, 2 other guests said they tried to anchor but their anchor dragged. Nice little marine store, helpful staff 1.25 per foot, plenty of bars, shops, and eating places.

Nice town and people, 2012-11-17
Captain: , Falmouth Maine (120)

We made it to this marina just before 5 and Casper met us at the dock and helped with the lines. Very friendly and accomodating. Town is all decked out for the Holidays, so the short walk in to town was festive. Nice local restaurants. There is a little park to the left of the marina that our dog Ella enjoyed.

Perfect for what we were looking for, 2012-11-15

Small dock, minimal bath house, but a short walk to town. Friendly and helpful staff. Enjoyed our stay (11/9/12)

solid marina, helpful staff, 2012-11-14
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (780)

well located right off the ICW, docks in good shape, stable power and great dockhands, short walk to town. bathrooms/showers are just ok, but clean.

Great spot, 2012-10-10
Captain: , Toronto (80)

Very convenient spot, easy access off icw and good depth on face dock. Restaurants are easy walk and worth a visit.
Wanted to update comment re pump out. They are now charging $20 per pump. Will stop here again

Good place to stop, 2012-10-06
Captain: , Annapolis (434)

Pretty much as previous raters have indicated. This is a busy dry storage marina with a few fixed docks. The one dock hand there when we arrived was busier than the proverbial one armed paper hanger, docking boats, checking people in, and driving the forklift for dry storage boat launching and recovery. It was a little rocky from wakes but overall not bad. The shower has a great shower head on it but the exhaust fan is broken so it gets a little steamy. Also there is no electrical outlet in the shower room for hair dryers, etc. No sink either. But a nice place with friendly people and right on the waterway.

Very nice stop, 2012-10-04
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1550)

We stopped here on the way up this spring and again going back south. Clean, good condition, family operation. Be sure to visit Yana's for lunch and fruit fritters you will never forget. There is a current at tide runs but nothing that can't be handled and they are good to help with lines and instructions.

Near an enchanting little town, 2012-09-09
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (507)

Casper's is a small marina within an easy walk to the town of Swansboro. The docks are in great shape with competent and very helpful dock hands. There is a fairly strong current that runs by the docks. There is one shower that is clean but not well ventilated. The heads are very clean. The negatives are there is one 30 gal portable pump-out device that is expensive ($20.00+) compared to other marina pump-outs. While the marina is in a no-wake zone, the locals don't seem to pay attention so the dock can get rocky from wake. It's proximity to the ICW is a plus. Swansboro is a charming town and Casper's is a fine place to stop.

Really nice place, 2012-07-26
Captain: , Murrells Inlet, SC (61)

Had 3 line handlers available when we arrived. Refueled in place and took on water. Checked in and got a rundown on available resturants. Their recommendation was excellant.

Love it here!, 2012-07-02

Nice clean facility and many nice restaurants within walking distance. Very nice staff!

A warm welcome, 2012-06-24
Captain: , London, UK (339)

We arrived just before closing time and received a really warm welcome from the owner. Nothing was too much trouble. The complimentary WiFi, decent showers, marina store, very reasonable rates, restaurants within walking distance and food store and pharmacy a little further away make this a great stop on the waterway. A helpful map of the local streets was useful. They are not floating docks but with a rise/fall of less than two feet it makes no difference.

Awesome weekend at Casper's Marina, 2012-06-06
Captain: , North Carolina (17)

At first the owner appears a bit pre-occupied and short-tempered but we found him very accomodating and knowledgeable and willing to tell you anything you ask. They are great people and this is a very affordable dockage.

If he appears a bit short tempered, don't pay this any mind, he is like most businessmen, he has to deal with customers, staff and lots and lots of work. He will do anything for you.

Easy in & out, 2012-04-25
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

Right off ICW lots of water on approach and at docks. Fixed docks in nice shape. Arrived after closing & left before opening but was very easy access & good facility.

Captain: , sassafras river, md (303)

single shower (unisex), bathrooms one each men/women. Only marina I've stayed at which caused my 30 amp warning light to glow hot red. When I informed the receptionist, I got the normal, no one else has mentioned it! Gosh I hate that. then she said her husband did the wiring after the huricane distroyed the area.

Great location with good service, 2012-03-12
Captain: , SeaScape Marina (310)

Good service with lots of local places to eat within walking distance.

Had the best Pork Tenderloin I have ever eaten at a local deli 1/2 block away.

Stopped for a quick overnight, 2012-01-23
Captain: , florida (230)

I found the docks to be in nice shape, the facilities clean and modern, and the young man who helped us tie up professional and friendly. I'd have given it five stars but there's no heat turned on in the heads and shower. We are the only boat on the dock, so I guess it would be silly to heat them. I'll shower on the boat.

Our trawler can only do 7.5 knots, and the trip from Beaufort to Wrightsville just too far for us. This is a nice, short hop from Beaufort and puts Wrightsville in range.

11 Day visit, 2011-12-07
Captain: , Flagler Beach, Florida 32136 (305)

6/9/11. Arrived at Caspers to spend a while with family for Fathers day. Stayed 11 days. Facilities are good, Town is a stones throw away. Small ships store at Marina and Very well stocked ships store across the bridge. Fixed docks, no shelter from wakes, tides run rather fast. Lots of traffic for wakes. No help for the wind. Friendly staff , good TV at dock, and overall a good stay for 11 days.

Caspers Marina, 2011-12-01
Captain: , Lake in The Hills, Illinois (542)

Excellent staff. Restrooms were nice, shower was great. Plenty of water at the dock and not much tidal change. Easy access from the ICW. Town is within walking distance with many restaurants.

They were so nice here. We stoped to get fuel and stayed for the christmas boat parade. Town was fun to walk around. Wonderful tobacco shop.

Nice little marina, 2011-11-07
Captain: , Ophelia, VA (849)

We stayed at Caspers Marina for three nights during a period of high winds. The owners of Caspers were very helpful. Nice little restaurants in town include Ducks, Ice House, Riverside and our favorite is the Irish Pub. There are a few shops to explore. The owners will drive you to the Laundramat and grocery store.

A Class Act, 2011-11-07
Captain: , Annapolis (30)

Clean marina, friendly, helpful and fun to chat with the owners. Susan and her husband do every thing they can to make your stay enjoyable to include helping the dock hands tie up your boat. We will be back when we head north in the spring. Thanks Caspers, you are terrific.

Friendly and Competent Help, 2011-11-05
Captain: , Marathon (275)

When we pulled into Casper's Marina there were two friendly competent dock hands there to grab our lines and secure Cold Calls to the dock. My wife checked us in and the young lady there offered transportation to the grocery store which is less than a mile away. My wife walked over to pick up a few essentials. We had a tasty meal at the Ice House which is a short walk into town. Swansboro is a friendly little community. On leaving a dockhand was there to help the exit.

Susan runs a tight ship, 2011-11-04
Captain: , City Island New York (600)

Swansboro is a delightful small town to visit and Caspers @ $1.25/ft and $5/50amp electric is a good spot to stop, you can walk into town and if needed Susan will drive you to the supermarket. Bathrooms are clean but basic. No frills here. The office closes at 6pm sharp, plan on arriving way before that. Plenty of restaurants, we ate at Ducks which overlooked the water and had good food. has fuel and portable pumpout.

Great Service - Inexpensive and Friendly, 2011-10-26
Captain: , Padanaram, MA (259)

Very nice folks here. We had some repair work that need to be completed on our Raymarine GPS unit. The owner of Casper's drove us to the UPS store, grocery store and was generally willing to help with whatever we needed. We'll be back in the Spring.

Screwed up our reservation, 2011-10-14
Captain: , Pentwater, MI (415)

Called ahead to make a reservation while we were in Oriental (11/1/2010). When we arrived 11/2/2010 the lady answering the phone said we were a no show on 11/1/2010. She was a real $%#^& and even though they had a spot, she would not give me access.

Thank god for Dudley's even though its a bit rough and tricky in bad weather. They'll send 2 dock hands down to help and have were very polite.

Pleasant stay, 2011-04-22
Captain: , Stratford, CT (658)

The dockhands were capable and helpful as was the rest of the staff. The bathroms were clean but the showers could have had more hot water. Lots of interesting restaurants and gift shops within walking distance. No courtesy car but a ride was offered by the staff to the store if we needed anything.

Lesson Learned...., 2011-04-05
Captain: , Buffalo, New York (1809)

ALWAYS look it up in Active Captain. Which we didn't.... This was the worst service experience we've had in North Carolina. The office manager didn't tell us that they didn't have water, when we called in advance (we spoke 3 times). We were charged the full rate. And, when we asked for help getting off the dock, the office manager complained that we had been there for half of a day (it was 12 noon, and, we waited out the Gale winds and tornado watches before leaving). The picturesque town was spoiled by this experience.

Clean Marina, 2010-12-03
Captain: , Jupiter, FL (1306)

Bad service from kids working the radio and the docks.
Good restaurants walking distance.
It was another convenient stop if running past Morehead or Beaufort on the way down.
Strong Current.

Not for Transients, 2010-12-01
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (70)

Visited here in November, 2010. The staff on hand was rude, unhelpful, and the dockhands were two teanage boys who did not know what to do, or, did not want to do it. From reading other reviews, seems the owner is great, but when he is absent, the staff is not customer oriented. Will never visit again.

Poor Service, 2010-11-10
Captain: , Between Boats, USA (623)

We stopped there for an afternoon back in the spring and they were nice (it's what saved them from 1 Star). But when we tried to make reservations there again for an overnight stay (over a holiday), Susan was not very accommodating with the possibility that our plans could change (weather or tides). So without offering any alternative solutions, we were actually ask to go elsewhere. They have lost my business.

Good Stop In Swansboro, 2010-05-02
Captain: , Deale, MD (160)

Secure spot close to restauants and grocery (Piggly Wiggly one mile). Yanas and Ice House are our favorite restaurants here. Don't miss breakfast at Yanas. Wakes from ICW can be annoying.

Good fuel prices and close to town, 2009-12-22
Captain: , Daytona Beach, FL (273)

The best part about this marina is the convenience to the shops and restaurants. We always dine at the Riverside when we're there since the food and service always great. Nice people at the marina and very good diesel fuel prices.

Good and Bad, 2009-08-23
Captain: , Charleston, SC (364)

Friendly staff ( although not always experienced), convenient to waterway, very good resturant nearby ( Riverside ), docks are fixed and in certain situations wind and current can be difficult, near waterway and wakes can be a problem.

Nice facility, 2009-06-16

Best marina yet :), 2008-08-23

Must do stop, great marina, friendly town. Breakfast at Yana's.

Good stop, 2007-11-17
Captain: , Dallas, TX (102)

Newer fixed docks and facilities. Transient oriented. Mr. Casper was extremely patient, helpful and good natured as we negotiated a difficult docking in our new-to-us boat. Wife Susan equally nice.Pump out is for small boats only and unreliable, according to Casper. Nice little town to walk into and shop/eat/drink.

Great place, 2007-10-18
Captain: , Lake Norman, NC (4)

Easy access. Nice facility. Very convenient. Ower was very friendly and informative. Would stay there again in a heartbeat. As others have said, need to watch for the SW winds but not a big deal.

Pleasnt Marina, 2007-07-09
Captain: , Wilmington NC (24)

Great Marina, only problem is with SW wind can get a little bumpy. Advise to use Fender boards against Pier. Tidal range about two feet. Dock hands very helpful, good fuel, paid 2.53 gal. for diesel in late June. Very convenient to town, plenty of restaurants to choose from, recommend the Ice House. Have stopped there a total of four times now.

What's the Problem?, 2007-05-03
Captain: , Oriental, NC (7)

As the previous reveiwer didn't elaborate as to why they wouldn't return, I'm not sure what the problem was. We stayed overnight at Casper's the last of April and had a good time. Mr. Casper was very friendly and he keeps the place in good condition. It is convenient to town. Definitely get a Cheesburger at Yana's. The docks are fixed, not floating, but there is only about 1.5 foot tide, so it was not big deal. It can get rough with SW winds, especially on an outgoing tide, as the marina is exposed.

Caspers Marina, 2007-02-05
Captain: , Patterson, La (1441)

We stayed several days to meet friends in the area. Of all the places that we visited on this trip from Louisiana to the Cheseapeake Bay ( 3890 miles) this is the ONLY place that we will avoid in the future. Period.
