The best customer service !!!, 2016-10-20
Captain: , Branford ,CT (180)

The dock masters Tony and Tom always provide the best customer service ! Nothing is ever too much for them. The office staff is also on top of things! Good people all around .

great service, 2015-06-27
Captain: , Milford (40)

Stopped here and made it my home port for the season. Will most likely store over the winter. Harbor masters Tom, Tony and Brian are all about customer service. When I arrived on 38 ft 6 ft draft sailboat, son and I exhausted from 5 day trip from south Annapolis, Tom was extremely helpful. It was a stormy afternoon with frequent lightening in the area but he helped unload and store a lot of gear until our ride arrived. After unloading he assisted in docking the boat across from fuel dock on island dock and brought us back quickly and safely to fuel dock area as another thunderstorm rolled in. Pointed us in the direction of the restaurant and choked down on tuna steak sandwich and a chicken parm sandwich. Large portions for the price. Also had shrimp Caesar salad which was huge in size. A good choice if you can resist some the other fried foods on the menu. Tom even helped us load the car when it arrived which involved several trips up stairs! The Live music sounds great everytime I have been at the marina working on the boat this week. Weekends are hoping at this place with a lot of family's and couples as well as singles. I recommend anyone passing buy stop in for a break, fuel food etc. especially if weather comes up, this place is very protected. Plenty of transient dockage, bathroom appears brand new, ice washing machines etc available.

Great stop, and thanks Tom!, 2015-05-25

We stopped at Captains Cove on our way from Newport to New York City to Albany for a simple fuel stop. Had never been to Black Rock there before. Easy approach up the channel, and they gave us good directions on the radio. The wind was stiff (about 20 knots) and the boat was almost brand new (to us). The landing could have been awful -- but Tom Jacobson gave me great directions. I don't know if he could sense I was new to the big boat, but he gave me precise shifter/throttle directions -- "Okay, portside reverse just a little, okay nudge starboard forward, then neutral..." They let us stay tied up for a little longer while while we grabbed lunch on the boardwalk, offered a pumpout, and then when we were ready to leave -- firmly nailed to the pier by the sideways wind -- Tom gave me great tips for getting away in a situation like that. Tom finally gave my wife a signed copy of his little book about an old boat, and we took off. Even though this stop lasted just about an hour, Tom's advice and his help is one of the highlights of the trip. I wish I could spend a few days with him for his advice and experience.

Good stopover, 2014-09-06
Captain: , N . KINGSTOWN, RI (162)

Stayed here for one night 8/21/14 on our way to NY. Filled up with diesel, bit pricey. Laundry is in the woman's rest room. Restaurant is fair, mostly all fried foods.

Worth a visit, 2013-10-24
Captain: , Earth (232)

We decided to stay over when we ran late with our shopping. Tom, the dock master was an absolute pleasure to deal with. The restaurant and other shops were closed for the winter season but we still enjoyed our stay tremendously. We needed to urgently have a prescription refilled and the local Hamcock pharmacy (203 367 6606) delivered to the marine within an hour after we ordered the prescription.

Funky Marina, 2013-08-14
Captain: , Amityville, NY (282)

Interesting place--a marina with a definite personality. Dock staff (Tom) was friendly, efficient and acommodating. Bathroom & Showers were clean. Individual Victorian Style buildings line the boardwalk and serve as shops selling everything from jewelry to ice cream. Didn't eat in the restaurant but visited the bar for a taste of Kareoke Night. Would definitely return.

Nice Surprise, 2013-06-23
Captain: , Port Aransas, Texas (998)

A last minute decision to take a slip vs anchor out was rewarded with this place. The first impression is very good and the staff was as professional and very friendly. The seafood restaurant at the top of the dock has a good menu and something for everyone.

Like an oasis, 2013-03-24
Captain: , Byram, CT (698)

All the other reviewers (so far) have it right. The staff couldn't be friendlier or more professional. They hauled my boat for winter and were very careful to listen to my suggestions and treated me like a valued customer. They are obviously very experienced and caring about the customer and the boat. Captains Cove really bent over backwards to make my first experience with them a good one. I expect to be a long-term customer.

One other thing that hasn't been said is that even though it's in a very industrial area, the marina seems to have good security and is a safe oasis. They have staff onsite 24/7 keeping watch. I think my boat is safe here.

If you want to stop here as a transient, they are full-service. There's a very active nightlife scene here with a eclectic crowd, restaurant, bar, and shops. There is a mini-market for provisioning about 1/2 mile away in Black Rock, a full laundry and many restaurants, including a gourmet coffee shop all along Fairfield Avenue in Black Rock. Walking directions (about 10 minutes): Exit the West gate near the travelift bay, and it's a working class safe neighborhood. Go West on Yacht Street, turn right on Harbor Ave, turn left on Thurston Street, turn right on Ellsworth St. Turn left on Fairfield Ave and you'll see the minimart, laundry and many restaurants.

Great Location, needs and update, 2012-12-02
Captain: , Southport, CT (70)

Great location, well protected. The marina staff only seem to care about collecting the cash. Seriously needs updates, including rotting docks and dock lights that do not work. The service department is mediocre at best.

A Nautical Theme Park, 2012-11-06
Captain: , Pilots Point (466)

Surprisingly refreshing stop, first-timer in Sept '12. Like one-man's neighborhood nautical theme park. Very homey, funky, ktichy, down-home. What more can you want when so may other marinas are becoming carbon-copies. This one has PERSONALITY. Visit and take in the homey spectacle.

A Little Kitch, 2012-07-16
Captain: , mamaroneck (140)

If you like a walk along a board walk, with cute shops and fried food restaurant, this is for you. It is a little kitchy as the boardwalk is adorned with figures with cut outs for you to put your head in to take the pictures, the distortion mirrors, little boats for the young ones to pretend they are steering, along with cars and horses. The food at the restuarant was surprisingly good with reasonable prices. The clams on the half shell were fresh and tasty, the hot dogs and hamburgers were very good. The lobster roll had fresh lobster with nothing else so were a little bland. Of course nothing beats fried food near salt water. Not the healthiest meal, but certainly good.
In the morning we spotted a local character with bandana, striped shirt and the beard of a pirate from days of old which thrilled by 3 year old grandson.
If you have young kids, or are a lover of this type of boardwalk setting, it is worth a trip. Just be mindful of the time you arrive. We arrived around 7 pm on Friday and the shops were closed and did not re-open until 12 on Saturday. I understand that when the live bands are playing, it can get noisy.
Fuel was around $4.70 per gal for diesel. A pumpout is available, but I did not inquire if there was a charge. Dockage was resonable; for my 40 ft boat, it was $85 including electricity.

Amazing service department & marina staff, 2011-05-25
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

After hitting a log in the Sound near Captain's Cove, we limped in to replace a prop. Rob, Missy, & Brad were extremely dedicated to our surgery and we were on our way again, in no time. Professional and FRIENDLY! We will stop again.

Next visit was for longer and we loved the facilities! The broadwalk full of shops and the bar/restaurant great for people watching. Plan to spend the weekend with some great people.

The owners have given so much back to the community...just visit the school here to learn more. Many local events are sponsored by the marina. We are just traveling through & consider this a must stop.

Close to Naiad factory, 2009-08-27
Captain: , Washington, DC (447)

Stopped here twice to get my stabilizers worked on. Naiad is 15 minutes away in Shelton, CT. Very accomodating marina, catering to kids anmd partying. Live music sometimes. Very sheltered.

A good stopover, particulary if you have kids or teens with you, 2009-08-16
Captain: , City Island, NY (98)

Very nice helpful people. Reasonably priced. Live music and a raucous open air bar make it fun, but noisy until the bar shuts. Then it's a quiet peaceful tie up. The restauant is a fried fish place. No great cuisine here, but it will do. Nothing else around, so this is it for the stopover. Small boardwalk

nice place, good for a few hours or a night, 2009-07-24
Captain: , Mt. Sinai, NY (232)

Captains Cove is very nice. It is a full service marina, with a nice restaurant on site. Not fancy but a lot of fun in the summer as there is live music. There are also about a dozen small shops selling clothes, jewelery, ice cream / candy, and other nick nacks.

The only downside is there is nothing besides the marine - no town to walk to.

The heads are clean, fuel and pumpouts were staffed and easy to use.

These people are great, 2008-06-12
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (16)

The people who run this place couldn't be nicer...we will definately stop here on our return trip.

Family owned "green" marina, 2007-10-25
Captain: , city island NY (2)

This is a great place to winter store your boat. They have two travle lifts and lots of parking lot space so you are not on top of each other. In addition, you can do all of your own work including winerrize engines and paint your own bottom! They are very strick on cleaning up after yourself, but that is a good thing. They have an appointment book for hauling and are very prompt. The best part is they are very friendly.
