Reviews for Kuchie's On The Water
Hamburgers for the Lock Crew, 2015-09-10
Captain: , Racine, WI (371)

We had a 2 hour wait for the Peoria lock yesterday, at 9:00. We tied up and rafted off with 6 other boats to wait. Jan the owner put on a pot of coffee and provided ice for one of the boats. The cook arrived about 10:00. We joked with the Lockmaster about hamburgers and when he called we took 4 to go orders to the lock crew. Turned a boring lock wait into a lot of fun with other loopers. The docks are really designed for smaller boats but by rafting off we all fit.

Good stop close to lock, 2014-09-07

The owner was awesome on a busy Sunday she made room for us with our 49' boat on the north dock which looks very new.
We have 9' at the slip and although it's a little wakey it's not the fault of the restaurant.
Food helpings are huge and hospitality is great and this makes an excellent stop 80 miles south of Ottawa even at our trawler speed.
Can see the entrance to the Peoria lock from the slip so timing of lock should be a breeze.

Great place to stay limited dock space but deep! Normal river level there is 9' of water. Great food as well
No $ to stay but no services except friendly faces and cold beer.

The most beautiful dock in the world..., 2013-09-21
Captain: , MV Red Head (61833)

River levels were quite low and we couldn't pull into Peoria or any of the surrounding marinas. The Peoria lock was filled with barges and we would have had a lot of problems making Quiver Island before dark.

Then we saw the sign for Kuchie's and called. They were friendly and helpful and let us take up one of their alongside docks. The depth at the dock was surprisingly over 10 feet.

We ate as much as we could at the restaurant and lucked out with live music by a very good band. The food was quite good. Portion size is big - dinner meant a full lunch of left-overs the next day.

So yeah, the docks are in need of some TLC. They just took over this property and I'm sure it's in the plan to fix them up. But when you need them, these docks are the most beautiful ones you'll ever stay at!

Think about stopping for lunch on the way up or down too. It's a fun spot. I'm very glad we found them.

Great spot for a drink, 2013-09-17
Captain: , Block Island, RI (984)

Previously Captain Ron's, now Kuchie's, this is a fun little bar with a big deck that overlooks the last of the wiggles. There is a stiff current along the dock, but nearly all boats will be able to come alongside and tie up. It is usually busy on summer weekends, but space is often available. Decent bar menu (with some choices beyond just burgers and fried stuff), good cocktails, and cheap beer (don't miss the beer can special where for a dollar you can blindly choose a beer from a trash can).

Great Place for Lunch by Land or by Water, 2012-09-17
Captain: , Peoria, IL (310)

Great lunch spot. Has that 'down on the river' feel somewhat like the Burger Barge about 10 miles North.

Ron sold it recently and the new owners told me they are planning on fixing up the docks, adding more outdoor seating, etc.

Great lunch stop!

Great stop before Peoria Lock, 2011-11-11
Captain: , Marco Island, Florida (303)

We've been stopping at Captain Ron's for 10 years. They have the best pork tenderloin sandwich on the River. The owners Ron and Debbie are very friendly. The docks are a little wobbly, but don't let that scare you away. They are 15 minutes north of the Peoria Lock, so it is a good place to spend the night, or wait for the Lock traffic to clear. There is no electricity, no water, and no charge.
