Port La Royale Marina, 2017-01-28

We arrived here Jan 24th 2017 and expect to stay till the end of February.

This is s somewhat dated marina, but I am giving it four stars for the staff that run it... they go out of their way to make you stay enjoyable... the place needs an influx of cash to get it up to a level of standard of other marinas. That aside, it is safe and well protected from swells and wind...

Clearing in was about as simply as it can be... we had precleared the night before onboard our boat when we were passing St Kitts... the French website let us enter alll the info and when we got to the marina we just needed to print it off in the marina office and sign it...

There are dozen or so restaurants in the marina that over look the water, and a shopping area on the street behind the marina... you will need to travel further for groceries... you can arrange for a car rental at the marina office and it will be delivered to you at the marina... there is both free and paid parking right at the marina... paid guarantees you a spot, free means you will likely get a spot, but you take you chance. And they are competitive with car rentals on the island.

This was not our first choice. We had wanted to stay at Fort Louis which is just on the other side of Sandy Ground. However they had no room on our arrival date and suggested Port Royale to us and even forwarded our registration info to them. Having been here for a few days now, we will not move to Fort Louis now that they have room for us. Fort Louis is definitely a better marina, but we have found the staff at Port Royale enough of a draw to keep us here for our few weeks in St Martin...

And it is definitely cheaper and easier to stay on the French side than the Dutch side....

You use the computers supplied, enter your data, pay $7.00, thats it.. too easy! Don't go to the ferry dock, this is the best place to check in and out.
