Reviews for Canyon Club Resort Marina
Good Profession Assistance, 2016-09-27
Captain: , Moyock, NC (984)

2016 Sep23-24 Even though we were not staying at Canyon Club, Vernon (Parts) & Bob (Service) took our various telephone calls, located and ordered a needed Onan generator part that we needed, and graciously coordinated installation of (2) 8D batteries on a Saturday morning. Parts, service, and workers were friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful with our needs. There cost of parts was good and service reasonable for the quality received. Thank you Canyon Club!

Nice marina, great staff, 2016-09-07
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (150)

Having slogged through 14 hours of 6'-8' head seas coming south to Cape May, we were happy to be greeted by very helpful staff. Tying to the dock was fast and efficient. They connected me to a great cleaning service to wash the boat the next day, and we're SUPER happy to take us around in the shuttle coming and going.

The pool was great. We didn't use other facilities, though they looked to be nice and clean. On their recommendation we had dinner at Lucky Bones and had a very nice meal.

Easy in and easy out off the T-head, even at low tide.

Not for sailboats, 2016-08-02
Captain: , Jersey City, NJ (70)

We made reservation for a slip, notifying them that we draw 6feet. They said 'no problem'. After a long jump from Sandy Hook, arrived dead tired there and when we called on the radio, we told them again we draw 6 feet. Skimmed the bottom on the righthand side of main entrance in the designated channel and touched the bottom at the slip they assigned us. The dockhand didn't even know how to tie up. When we mentioned the depth issue, the people at the office gave an attitude with a smirk. Had to wait for high tide the next morning to leave. Not doing this marina again.

Normally a great marina, 2016-07-17
Captain: , Moorestown, NJ (40)

Not this trip. Bathrooms weren't cleaned, the wifi was out(and has been for weeks) , pump out was down as well. No other pump out nearby. Shame this was one of my favorite marinas. I will say the new shuttle service is amazing and the staff is still knowledgable and eager to please. I really like this place I hope they get it sorted out.

Another endorsement, 2016-07-16
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (636)

Expertly run, excellent dock staff, diesel on the docks (though pump-out is at the fuel dock), and the great plus is the courtesy van which we used extensively during our 4 day stay.

Local restaurant critique: Lobster House seriously over-rated. At one time it was a great place but based on our experience, the food is mediocre at best (you get the sense that the dinners are pulled together from steam tables, not prepared to order and wait staff are poorly informed). However, Lucky Bones across the street is a funky place with friendly staff and a good kitchen.

Captain: , cape may (49)

Thank you so much for your stay and kind words. But never feel bad about requesting our courtesy van. We know most travelling boaters do not arrive with land transportation and that is the exact reason we purchased our van. It is here for our guests use.....and don't feel bad for the dock attendants...they enjoy driving our van and taking our guests throughout Cape May (traffic or not). We hope to see you again soon.

GREAT STOP, 2016-07-07
Captain: , staten island (511)

stayed over 4th july weekend ,after running in 0 visibility from abescon to nearly cape may it was a welcome releif when fog lifted before we entered inlet.
Marina was responsive on radio and dockhands Will & Matt where great ,grounds and surroundings where 1st class and the natives where friendly and welcoming
The walk over the bridge is a little dicey ,it looks like a new highway merge and theres no safe place to cross ,but thats no fault of marina, trip is made easier that the marina provides a van and dock hands drive you wherever you need , our problem was traffic ,it was july 4th at shore = packed .I will go back for sure as this was a great spot but next time Ill rent a golf cart or car for easier trips ,hated putting the guys thru that traffic
A great time and a great facility

Transient sailboat repairs beware, 2015-11-25
Captain: , Hamilton, Ontario (10)

Despite having very personable staff it took 3 weeks to get a seal replaced on the transmission of my transient sailboat. Be prepared to pay quite a bit for dockage and electricity and all the 'incidentals' used during the repair/labor process (i.e. sandpaper and rags).
There are no amenities close and, other than a West Marine that is within walking distance, you will have to rent a car.
If possible, have your boat moved to the repair dock while waiting for repairs as there is no charge for docking there.
If there is any chance that you will have to remove your mast--keep going. There are no facilities here to do so and they will have to call in a flatbed crane at significant expense to you.

Great Marina, 2015-11-04
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale FL (124)

We stayed only 1 night but would have been ice to stay longer.

The walk to the restaurants is a bit treacherous so if you are out at night take a light.

Great Stop, 2015-09-22
Captain: , Daytona (410)

This is our second time staying here, we stopped in the spring on our way north and couldn't wait to come back. Town is awesome and easily assessible by bike from the marina. Within walking distance are several excellent restaurants. Facilities are top notch and very clean. Staff is very professional and courteous.

5 star facility & staff, 2015-09-19
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (6425)

Canyon Club is a first class facility; docks wide & secure, in-slip fueling, pool, etc. Staff was on the dock to help us in, connect power. They always answered the phone, but we had trouble coming in when there was no Vhf response. The marina is not close to anything, especially provisioning. Most of the boats in the marina are sport fisherman, but virtually no one in the marina (or in the condos) mid-week. We just didn't enjoy our 1-night stay.

Top Notch Location, 2015-09-14
Captain: , Racine, WI (515)

You get what you pay for! Our approach was from the Ocean and we missed a turn at red 14. Ran aground but worked off easily (sailboat with 5' draft). Once we were straight on the directions we had no issue. Two guys at dock to catch lines. Not only did they catch our line, but connected electricity and filled up with fuel right at the dock. Dockmaster answered all our questions and was very helpful. Good place to stop over.

Sport Fisherman's Paradise, 2015-08-25
Captain: , Wantagh NY (581)

The mecca of sportfishing boats, but also a very nice transient stop over location, easy in and out and if you want the Cape May Canal it's right there. Super nice infinity edge pool and some nice restaurants with walking, if you want to go into Cape May proper you'll need to get a lift, there was a shuttle at one time, not sure if that is still true. Good clean and reasonable diesel right at your slip.

Not recommended, 2015-08-08
Captain: , Mystic, CT (112)

Our captain called the marina 3 hours prior to arrival to make a reservation.

Upon arrival tried contacting the marina several times on Ch 9 and 16 with no answer. Our vessel is a motoryacht and can be difficult to get docked without assistance especially in wind so we had to tie up to the fuel dock ourselves. No dockhands or staff to be seen anywhere. The captain ended up calling them on the phone and 2 finally showed up.

Wanted to fuel with diesel and couldn't because their fuel nozzle wouldn't fit our fill opening. While we were trying to fill up the staff contacted their dockmaster for a slip. No reservation was found even though we called 3 hours earlier. So we ended up going to another marina across the river. When we went to leave both dockhands lefts us and were walking back to their office without even saying a thing. No assistance from them at all.

This is not a place I would return to and their staff is not very friendly.

Nice place, 2015-07-11
Captain: , Sarasota, Ft. Lauderdale (643)

Good place to stop with helpful staff. Short walk or cab ride over the bridge to a ships store and bars/restaurants. Try lucky Bones for some great food. As well as the Lobster House for some great seafood in an old school setting.

Great for sailboats!, 2015-07-10
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (41)

We sailed the ARC DelMarVa 2015 rally, and this was the marina for the end of the second leg of the trip. When we were pulling in, I noticed that almost every (and I mean, every) boat in the marina was a fishing boat. So I was a little cautious, but it turned out that we had found a hidden gem.

The entrance is dredged deep enough that other boats, with ocean 9" keels, could make it in safely. The slips are all plenty deep. And, if you need to refill on diesel (why not top off the tank) they pump directly at the slip.

But, what makes this place a great find is the staff. The marina manager and his staff went out of thier way to make us feel at home. They even rented an SUV - on them - to take our group to dinner and drop us off at Cape May beach.

We were very impressed, and if we come back this will be our first choice for a transient slip.

Fine marina, inconvenient transient location, 2015-06-29
Captain: , Oriental, NC (231)

First, let's set the navigation straight. It's quite easy. After transiting the Atlantic inlet, turn 90 degrees port at the red flashing turning buoy. Proceed westward, with red markers on your starboard. At R14, turn about 70 degrees to starboard so that you are looking directly at the canal bridge and have the Coast Guard water toward on your stern. Proceed to R16, immediately after which you will turn sharply to starboard to enter the marina.
We stayed here several niights, first waiting for nasty weather to clear for the coastal sail north, and then waiting for a replacement for a failed iPad, which we use for backup navigation. The marina is well run, the staff is very helpful, and the facilities are nice. However, it's a very unpleasant walk or bike ride across the canal bridge to get into town for groceries or sightseeing. Next time, we will choose to stop at one of the marinas on the other side of the canal.

Deep water, nice people, fuel pumps everywhere!, 2015-06-15

Stayed on return from Newport to Annapolis. Beuatiful pool, clean facilities and 27 fuel pumps so they can fuel you in your slip.

Stay Away for Repairs, 2015-02-14
Captain: , Newport Beach (10)

I hate writing reviews like this. I don't want to, but then I think of grief it might save people, so here it is...

I was referred to Canyon Club by my insurance adjuster after Sandy had damaged my sailboat. I was told they were experts in sailboats, and they seemed very helpful and friendly when we first met. We had the entire value of the boat in insurance coverage to get it working again. The boat was new, less than 100 hours on the engine, one owner. This was April of 2013.

Fast forward to July 2014, and the boat was still not working when we were forced to take it out of the yard. They had to redo the paint job 4 times, and it still wasn't done (flaking & chipping). The rigging was obviously not tuned by a professional. The engine would continually stall over 2000 rpm because of work they did on the fuel system. They charged me $4k for a cleaning in July of 2013 and then boat got filthy for the next year while I waited for them to finish the work. They continually slotted in regular customers in front of my boat. It seemed like a constant battle to get them to address things correctly. At one point I had to pay for my own (additional) survey to prove to the insurance company that the work hadn't been done correctly.

I wasn't local in Cape May, and it felt like I was out of site, out of mind. They ignored calls and emails, which forced me to drive 3 hours to the boat yard if I wanted to talk them (unless they wanted to get paid, in which case they would call and email every day). They made written agreements and then broke them without qualms. In the end, they wanted to 'impound' the boat in the boat yard until the final insurance check came through. It was a nightmare.

All in all, after 15 months in the yard and an $80k bill later, I still don't have a sailboat that is fixed. I've had boats for 15 years, am used to dealing with boatyards, and never had an experience even close to how bad this was.

They might be nice to your face, but do yourself a favor and stay away. The work is not up to par and they don't honor their word.

Very nice Marina, 2014-11-18
Captain: , Alex Bay, NY (431)

10/14: My 2nd stay at the Canyon Club and again I would give it another 5 stars. The staff and management are professional and I felt very confident leaving my boat there for 2 weeks. They kept an eye on it and gave me updates when I called them. Its not an easy walk to downtown, but worth a cab ride for good dinning and drinks/shopping. I hope to come back for a 3rd visit , soon

Prior to arriving the staff was excellent to communicate with and that continued right up to docking and paying the bill. They are well trained, professional and courteous. For the first timer Cape May is not the easiest place to navigate. Check your charts and do your homework prior to getting in. I came in a low tide and saw some shallow water, but no problems with the bottom. I would call on the phone once you get in and get specific directions as to where to turn off the main channel to get into Canyon Club. Once you make the correct turn into the Canyon Club, your problems are over..great docks and assistance. Its a little to far to walk to some restuarants, but cab service is abundant.. Try the Lobster house for a good meal and great service. I would certainly go back, but at high tide.

A Good Place to Avoid, 2014-11-01
Captain: , Meredith, NH (638)

We stopped for 7 days waiting for weather to clear. Had generator worked on while here & bought 300 gal fuel. If you make the mistake of stopping here DO NOT BUY FUEL! We got an ample supply of "Black Grit" with our fuel that fouled our generator in less than 3 hours run time after spending $1,666 for the work they did. The only thing that saved our drive engine is our Racors. We now can only hope our polishing system will remove the foul stuff they dumped on us. The young people here are very helpful & friendly but the older ship store people are quite unwelcoming. Prices are very high @ $2.95/ft docking & $125/hour mechanics & no discounts for anything. IF YOU ARE SMART YOU WILL NOT GO HERE! Also these people own South Jersey Marine here in Cape May. We have stayed there with plesant results & they do offer dock discounts but share mechanics. I would avoid them from now on.

Great Service, 2014-09-08
Captain: , Wilmington (20)

Got in late.. Noah was super helpful, and accommodating, although it was past quitting time on a Sunday evening. Stayed to fuel us and saved us a ton of time for the long trip to Norfolk the next day. Paul Hoffman is a pro, in every sense of the word.. First Class

Stopped Enroute Baltimore, 2014-07-14
Captain: , Glenwood, MD (385)

A freind purchased a nw 36 foot Egg Harbor we were delivering from Lanoka Harbor, NJ to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, MD. We stopped at Canyon Club resort to Fuel. Fuel prices were great, carzy 5 foot tides, and we were there at low tide which made getting off the boat, even ith a fly bridge, very difficult..,... The attendant at the gas pump was not very knowledgeable about the area, such as how long teh Cape May Canal was etc..., but he was courteous an helpful..... I will come back to stay another time. The facilities were very clean, the pool looked clean...

Great Marina!, 2014-06-13
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (112)

We traveled here with the ARC Delmarva Rally quite a few sailboats invading a marina with mostly very nice motor yachts! Everyone was pleasant and welcoming. facilities were clean and very nice. Lovely pool and deck for get togethers!
Walking distance to Cape May. Take a right out of Marina and walk about half a mile....harbor view Resturant ....happy hour with half price appetizers....mussels, clams and clams casino were excellent! Turn left from the marina and go over the bridge to Lobster House.....get a three pound lobster to share!!!!! e also walked all over town admiring the Victorian splendor and beautiful gardens in the homes. The boardwalk, beach, outdoor hops etc were wonderful!
Would definitely return here!

Good marina - but not recommended for transients , 2014-06-07
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1897)

Good marina we were there during shark hurting festival and the sport boat guys were in full force. The cussing used by some of the local sport boat guys was atrocious.
The pool was great but the number one negative was that we called all three taxi companies in town and they ALL refused to come to that marina. There is nothing close by.
The slip fairways were also very tight, upon exiting my wife was touching the bowsprit of the vessel behind us and were still not clear of the pilings to spin my bow around, luckily wind was very light and we made it work.

5 Star Marina, 3 Star Bathrooms, 2013-07-24
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (181)

Stayed here for several days from July 21-26, 2013. Have been here before, would come again.

While a bit more expensive than some of the marina's in Cape May Harbor, Canyon Club is very nice, provides excellent facilities and is, for the most part, very clean. The staff is helpful, professional, attentive and courteous. The docks are well maintained and in very good condition. I did have an issue with the shore power but this was immediately resolved by the dock hands.

The walking/biking distance to restraunts and town is a bit further than other marinas but it is still doable and there are several restraunts that are near by. There is a West Marina an easy walk away, the parts department on premisis is good and I have used them on past visits. Other ship supply houses are also close by.

The pool is clean and a welcome treat at the end of a hot summer day.

At the time we were here, the pumpout was not operational. As others have mentioned, the rest rooms could use more attention. They are not truly bad, but they are not great either and could benefit from some basic maintence and a more thorough cleaning.

We were also unable to find recycing facilities for our accumulated cans and bottles on the marina grounds. We were however able to find a place a short distance away.

Excellent marina with a pool, 2013-07-23
Captain: , Atlantic City, NJ (320)

If you are transiting the area and looking for an place to be for a night or longer this marina is a wonderhe kids liked the half moon shaped pool overlooking the docks and there are a lot of food choices nearby. Is a bit $$.

Clean and well-staffed, 2013-06-04
Captain: , Warwick, RI USA (100)

We stopped here in early May, 2013. There were plenty of people to help us tie up and they have diesel pumps right at the docks, making refueling easy. We paid $2.95 a foot for the slip. The bathrooms were clean. We were too tired to walk to town. Coming from the west, the marina was very easy to find and get into after a long day on Delaware Bay, with fog and freighters.

Great for overnight, 2013-06-01
Captain: , Rockport, Texas (130)

The marina was a good stop. We stayed there 27 May 2013. We had great docking assistance. The marina was having it's Memorial Day catered cook out and invited us to participate. Great food and beer!
Would have given higher rateing but - the pump out not working and the cable not working plus the marina is rather isolated. I need to mention that one of the reasons we chose this place was that they are pet friendly - unlike others in the area.

Attention to detail is lacking, 2013-05-15
Captain: , Thornbury, Ontario (10)

2 night stay May 7 & 8, 2013. The facility is nice, the concrete floating dock system excellent and the grounds are well maintained. We draw 6' and did not have a problem with depth but I believe berths for that draft are limited. Upon arrival the individual who helped us into our slip was not very friendly or welcoming...must have been having a bad day. Washroom/shower is okay but it is obvious they do not get checked or maintained with any frequency. The toilet seats are almost off their hinges and on the morning of our departure both toilet stalls were completely void of toilet paper...not good!!! To me, this lack of attention to detail is completely unacceptable. While it is possible to walk to the amenities and restaurants across the bridge, the walk is decidedly pedestrian unfriendly. We would have preferred to stay on the other side at South Jersey Marina.

Strong 4-stars, 2013-05-13
Captain: , Coles Point, VA (777)

Arrived here in howling wind and was met with very helpful dock hands to help me land. In spite of a lot of tugging on dock lines, they were courteous and pleasant, and earned every dime of the tip I left for them. The docks are concrete floating and the power pedestals are top-notch. While the restrooms are a bit on the small side, they were perfectly serviceable and well done in the space they had. I had a pizza delivered to my boat, but there are restaurants within a short cab ride. Not really anything to walk to unless you want to walk over the bridge--this would be one negative about my overnight stay. The weather was not conducive to a walk in the rain/wind.

I would stay here again--everyone, to a person, was helpful, pleasant and the facilities were solid.

Nice facility, 2013-05-11
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1866)

Stayed here night of 5-8-13. Easy in & out and laid on E-W fuel dock, very nice facility, good transient stop. Rate was 2.50 foot. Good power 100 amp.

Real nice place to stay, 2013-05-06
Captain: , Mamaroneck NY (161)

Pulled in with sailboat last week with 5' draft and no problem. Dock hands were waiting to help us tie up. Very friendly, hot showers and well maintained facility. Rates were reasonable for the area.

Great service, 2012-09-06
Captain: , Annapolis (264)

Our engine failed about 10 miles up the Delaware Bay and we were towed to the Canyon Club marina. We called them while being towed in and they ordered the part we needed. It arrived the next morning and they had a mechanic on board to replace the part and get us going before noon. The only problem we had was with the depth. At low tide (with 5ft draft) we were sitting in the mud. No charge for staying in the work slip and we could still use the facilities and pool.

Very clean marina!, 2012-06-29
Captain: , Rumsey Island (330)

Very clean and modern marina. Great pool. Grounds kept meticulously. Attentive dock hands. In-slip fueling in very convenient. Only reason not 5 stars is shallow water in slips. I draw 4' and was on bottom at low tide.

Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1523)

We stayed here because a friend arranged for a discount for Great Loopers. The marina is very good with floating docks, swimming pool, clean rest rooms, and nice lounge. The only downside is they are not transient friendly. The resident boaters were focused on one thing, FISHING! (not that there is anything wrong with that). Also, it is not the closest marina to town.

GREAT STOP, 2012-06-10
Captain: , Mackinaw City, MI (60)

This is a great stop. They are currently offering a 20% discount off slip rates with free electric for AGLCA members. There is free pump out available and you can get diesel fuel at your slip, current price is $3.94 tax included. Showers, laundry and a great pool. The AGLCA Harbor Hosts are Rich and Carol Nick, and they are FANTASTIC. Whatever it is you need they will take care of you. Everyone on the Loop has to pass through Cape May and this should be your place to stop while in Cape May.

great place, 2012-06-04
Captain: , Somers Point, NJ (130)

We've stayed here several times over the last two years and have enjoyed it each time. The pool is great, the staff is very helpful - especially docking the boat. On time we couldn't get a cab to come get us so one of the guys in the ships store drove us into town. There are some great restaurants in Cape May as well. we will be going back this year again.

Aground at low tide, 2012-05-09
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (639)

We tried to go in to this Marina on the advice of a sportfishing friend who told us it was the nicest Marina in Cape May with floating docks. We went aground in the mud on the way in and at two different slips we tried to get into. the dock staff was not very helpful on site or on the VHF. We decided not to stay and went over to south Jersey Marina instead.

Recommended stay, 2011-06-28
Captain: , Warsaw, Ky (875)

Staff very helpful with getting into slip. Fueling is at your slip. Docks are floating and iin excellent condition.

Stayed here while we had an alternator repaired. Repair facility was able to get our alternator repaired and back on the boat within 24 hours even at this time of the year.

West Marine is an easy walk from the marina.

Extremely Well Maintained, 2011-06-09
Captain: , Kings Point, New York (80)

The Canyon Club is an extremely well maintained facility. The concrete floating docks are nice and you can arrange in-slip fueling. The pool is quite nice and the ship's store is very useful and nicely stocked. The staff was kind and helpful. It is mostly sport fishing boats, but we were welcomed in our motor yacht. Be careful on the approach. The channel is not very wide.

The Canyon Club is a cab ride to the historic Cape May Victorians and the beach. We were in awe of the woodworking and colors of the Victorian houses.

Very nice stay, 2011-02-02
Captain: , Palm CIty Florida (48)

Very clean marina. Many sportfishing boats due to its location to the canyons. Nice floating docks and friendly staff. Close to several places to get a meal and many places will deliver right to your slip.

Captain: , Marlton, NJ (171)

Absolutely beautiful Marina. Docks are wide floating concrete. Diesel pumps on the docks about every three to four slips. Heads and showers are immaculate. They had a prty for the 4th with free food and drinks. Pool is wonderful. Store is adequate and very clean. People are friendly. BUt if you are walking it is a distance to Cape May beach. Copper Fish restaurant just over the cuaseway and near the Lobster House is excellent and no wait as compared to the 2 hour wait for the lobster house.

A Fishermans Dream Place., 2008-03-09
Captain: , Atlantic City, NJ (76)

As power boaters on a 54ft pilot house we were a little out of our relm here but the staff was great and the amenities are fabulous. Great pool, clean heads but a bit of a hike to town. They have a car for use but rarely available. A taxi ride to the Boards is $$ and you just can't walk to the promenade in Cape May from here. Beautifull place but you need a car.
