Reviews for Cantlers Riverside Inn
Great food! Not just for crabs., 2016-05-29
Captain: , Cape Porpoise, Maine (240)

Took an Uber car from Annapolis Yacht Basin. Worth the trip. I had a half dozen large crabs and they were delicious. The Admiral had broiled cod, which was excellent. Not overcooked and obviously very fresh. Highly recommended.

Have visisted Cantler's many times on the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's skipjack Stanley Norman. Welcoming dock and great food. What better way to spend some time outdoors on the water eating your fill of Chesapeake Blue Crabs. Crabs are great. Service is excellent.

Crabs, clams and cold beer, 2015-07-07
Captain: , Portsmouth Virginia (208)

I was here during the week twice in June 2015 and both times the long T-head had lots of room for bigger boats available. Maybe that's not normal for the weekends. We anchored north of the restaurant in Mill creek and took the dingy in. Eating crabs, clams and drinking cold beer at a picnic table over looking the water - how could it get any better?

Cantler's dock, 2014-04-02
Captain: , ANNAPOLIS, MD (50)

Highly rated because it is a free dock. The slips toward shore get very shallow. Gas only is available at the dock, for diesel you need to head for Annapolis harbor.

Crabs, cold beer and a great view, 2013-08-13

Cantlers is one of the best traditonal crab house restaurants on the Chesapeake. If you are coming by boat, there is VERY limited dockage for anything over 30'. The approach from Whitehall Bay is well marked and easy to naviagte -- just stay in the center of the channel.

Crabs and More Crabs, 2012-09-05
Captain: , Philadelphia (90)

One of the best Crab places on the bay. Limited Dockage for large boats, but for late luch space can usually be found. Worth the trip. beware of carb pots enetering the creek on the bay side though.

Come early for great crabs, 2012-07-05
Captain: , Glenwood, MD (385)

It has taken a few attempts to get seated at Cantlers around dinner time or on teh weekends to figure out that you need to be there by 4 PM on a weekday to ensure you get a seat. Atmosphere is great, service was great, food was great, EXCEPT, when ordering large crabs you expect to get LARGE crabs. it seemed our crabs were not 6" and were the same size as the ones for all you can eat (mediums)

Difficult to find better crabs anywhere!, 2012-02-21
Captain: , Galesville (60)

The best blue crabs on the bay! Worth the trip!

It's all about the Crabs, 2012-02-08
Captain: , Annapolis (795)

Cantler's has a reputation for providing top-notch steamed crabs. They have peeler tanks on-site for soft shell crabs, too. Smaller boats can dock out back and they have a fuel dock. You can also anchor very close by and dinghy in.

Good food, but gets crowded, 2011-08-09
Captain: , Oakton, VA (299)

We arived early and had our choice of dockage. By the time we left, the docks were full and there was a long line to get a table. Our food was very good, but a little expensive. Overall, a nice dining experience!

My favorite Crab place, 2011-08-08
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (130)

The ratings indicating high prices are correct - however, if you are looking for big crabs, you are most likely to find them here. For my money $60-$80 a dozen for Xlarge or Jumbos is a much better deal than picking small light crabs somewhere else. Yes, it can get crowded, but my experience is that if a restaurant has been in business for years and they are still crowded, there is a good reason - people find a reliable a good experience

Good local restaurant, 2011-01-26
Captain: , Frog Mortar Creek, Middle R., Chesapeake (420)

Cantler's gets good reviews from the local folks. Very popular. Will be busy in season so call ahead or eat early. Food decent with varity. Crabs we saw were huge and pricy. We like this place.

This is a fun place, 2010-09-30
Captain: , Baltimore (317)

I agree, the prices are high. But the food is good and it is a good atmosphere. We have anchored around the corner, and this is a good place to stop.

Not my favorite place on The Bay., 2010-09-10
Captain: , West River, MD (50)

We stopped in for an early dinner on a mid week in early September. We tinkered with the idea of having crabs, that is until we saw the $60 per dozen, at a time when crabs are plentiful elsewhere on The Bay. Cantlers wiull be off my to visit list...

Too Pricey, 2010-05-10
Captain: , Carlyle, IL (133)

I will second Dave's review. High prices, mediocre (at best) food. There are other crab & seafood places in town with better food and better prices. The only saving grace is you can tie up at their dock for free when eating there. It makes for a great short trip from Annapolis by boat if you ignore the food.

Great crabs and seafood, 2009-09-28
Captain: , Yeocomico River (336)

Crabs here are great along with most other seafood. Prices are about what you would expect for the Annapolis area. Great place to anchor in Mill Creek and take the tender to their dock.

Great Crab House, 2009-06-02
Captain: , Middle R, MD-Warminster, PA (54)

Arriving by boat up Mill Creek - strictly follow NavAids in the winding channel. Well marked and picturesque. Friendly docking with limited space for patrons. Crabs were fantastic and I suppose other food was also great but why bother?

Grossly overrated, 2009-03-03
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (1156)

Pay white table cloth prices for bashing crabs at a wobbly picnic table. I've never figured out why they are always so full but they must be doing something right that doesn't work for me.

Best crabs and seafood, 2007-07-11
Captain: , Deale, Md. (1)

Don't let the appearence of the place fool you. The crabs are always cooked perfectly and if you get a bad crab, they will replace it. fist sized shrimp and wonderful Tuna! Yes, you read right. The seared tuna is to die for. Decent service but pricey. Come by boat and they will help you tie up. Not much room for bigger boats. Be prepared to wait as the place is popular.
