Nearby Moss Island is a geologic wonder and well worth the hike. Before walking there, view the map in the dockmaster's lobby and pick up the brochure that explains the history. Even the walk to it via the Erie Canalway Trail is unique and pretty.

Reviews for Little Falls Canal Harbor
Great little stop, 2017-07-10
Captain: , Harrison Township Michigan (380)

Rate is good. Walk into town to get some ice cream or French food or a good breakfast. Harbor masters gave us a ride in at another time. Showers and lounge are spotless. Nice people here

Best stop yet!!!, 2017-06-29
Captain: , Tully, NY (100)

Train noise but no whistles so slept right through!! Inside lounge area makes it conducive for lots of boating conversations!! Mark is the best!! Welcoming and very helpful!! Always let us know when he was going into town and let us hitch a ride!!
Gave us the grand tour of his community on the way!! Found a great restaurant--That Little Place on Main at 28 West Main Street--fresh farm to table offerings!! We ended up staying 3 nights. Unfortunately, during our stay, NYS Canal System decided to park one of their large vessels for the rest of the season, which will affect available space for boaters.
Wifi issue resolved---weak at boat but very strong and reliable in lounge area!!!
Try not to miss this treasure!!!

First Class, 2017-06-29
Captain: , Sacramento, CA (416)

Loved coming through the down on the canal. Harbor Master offerred rides and sightseeing on his own time. He also knows everyone in town, where to go for what you need.

Great Stop ... it's all here, 2017-06-21
Captain: , Campbell Creek, NC (564)

6/18/17: Park like setting near town.
Floating dock with 3 power pedestals. Then floating dock without power (for tour boat to load and unload). Then wall with 3 power pedestals at the wall with water and one pedestal at the building, about 2/3's of the way to the west.
Once registered, you get the key to the building with nice laundry facility, 4 large bathrooms, 2 large showers and a lounge with TV. You can use the lounge to hang out after staff is gone, too. Picnic area with grills. They have ice plus ice cream sandwiches and some sodas, too.
Easy to walk and play with dogs. At west end, there is a small boat ramps where can swim.
Weak WiFi. Something was wrong with it when we were there, not sure anyone there knows what to do or who to call.
Pump out is at west end of wall.
Didn't go into town, but heard from others it was great.

Wonderful stop, 2017-06-16
Captain: , Oxford, MD (810)

The marina is beautifully maintained and very clean. The grounds are lovely and boaters gather for docktails in the evening around the picnic table or on the porch. The marina employees are all friendly, helpful and Mark gave us a ride to the grocery store along with a tour of the area and history lesson. We expected to stay 2 nights and ended up staying an additional night to participate in the LF Art Walk and Art of Food culinary tour of Main Street. In addition to Main Street, the Canal Side area is worth a visit with shops and restaurants. We enjoyed dinner at the Canal Side Inn. This is truly a special stop made so by the people who go out of their way to engage you and have such an obvious love and pride of their home town. Highly recommend this stop for more than a quick over night.

They Have Nearly Everything, 2016-09-21
Captain: , Sarasota (110)

9/19/16 Excellent facility, Great staff. Clean restrooms and showers. Comfortable front porch and lobby. Wi-fi was out on our visit, but usually a strong signal. Only 4 over-the-air TV stations. Dockmaster gave our party of 4 a tour of downtown LF, a classic upstate NY town with a lot of interesting architechture. He dropped us at The Canal Side Inn, upscale French, $$$ but worth it to celebrate wedding anniversary of our boat guests. As others have said, one of the best stops on the Erie. And, you will either have just experienced Lock 17 (westbounders) or have it to look forward to (eastbounders) in the morning.

Sitting on the porch..., 2016-08-14
Captain: , Portland, ME (240)

...of the most welcoming of Welcome Centers we have come across. Chris and her crew does everything possible to make the stary enjoyable - to include giving you the key to the front door!

Great food in town, try the Copper Moose for its 21 craft beers and excellent food, Ann's Place in Canal Plaza for breakfast (served untill 1100 weekdays, one o'clock weekends). All a very short walk from the Welcome Center.

We were here when the 'feels like' temps were approaching 100 so we used a taxi to avoind the heat and T-storms, fast and reasonable, $5.00 to anywhere in town.

Its a don't miss stop for sure.

Captain: , Racine Wisconsin (161)

Beautiful modern Marina. Call ahead and they will arrange for a fuel truck to fill you up.

Very hospitable, 2016-06-07
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1550)

If every town had a place and STAFF like this it would be hard to ever get through. Chris is a wonderful dockmaster. Saw us coming and was at the dock waiting with instructions as to which power pole to line up with according to your needs. The bath and shower rooms inside were spic and span clean to a shine. Can't wait to go back again.

A great stop on the Erie, 2016-05-29
Captain: , Louisiana, MO (391)

Real nice folks and a very nice facility. Grilled on the grill. It is a decent walk to town and restaurant. Fully open. Got serenaded by their Dixie Land Band practicing as we departed

Super Stop, 2016-05-24
Captain: , Sturgeon Bay, WI (21)

Great (clean) facilities and great staff (Phil, Dave, Chris and city employees). They all go beyond expectation to support boaters!

Little Falls with a Big Heart, 2015-11-04
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale FL (124)

Late Season, mid-October, not a lot of transient traffic. Chris the Harbormaster went out of her way to help us feel welcome. Gave us a ride to Piccolos Restaurant (a real gem in the old RR station). And then a ride the next day to the grocery store which included a tour of the historic part of the town.

Great deal, 2015-10-15
Captain: , Sandusky , Ohio (100)

Julie and Terry

We would highly recommend this Marina, Great dockmaster that took care of all our needs.
The facility was well taken care of, bathrooms and showers very clean, nice laundry facility and a short walk to town. Priced right at one dollar a foot and felt safe and secure. Definitely would stay there again.

Great Stop, 2015-09-20
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4307)

The city has built a great little marina for cruisers. We felt good supporting the town with our small fee of $1/ft. Very clean heasd/showers and an interesting town across the bridge. Staff friendly, helpful and accommodating. The have 6 power poles with both 30A and 50A outlets, 3 on the eastern floating dock and 3 on the western concrete wall. The town has an overpass spanning the railroad, so with no road crossing, the trains don't blow their horns. A quiet evening and morning.

Nice Boaters Lounge, 2015-08-22
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (1234)

We needed the wall vs. floating dock for our 42ft sailboat, but the walls weren't too high. We were able to rig fenders horizontally around a bollard to help us get up. The walk to town is about 15-20 mins. Not too much right around the Canal Harbor. In town are some good restaurants, but we did not try them. The Price Chopper supermarket was very nice. There is also a Fisher Autoparts store but they close at 1pm on Saturdays. The boater's facilities are very nice, the restrooms and private showers very, very clean!

Small price for great stop, 2015-08-19
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7375)

Concrete wall may be too high for some boats, limited room on plastic floating docks. Good power, water, clean restroom & showers. Very comfortable boaters lounge with wifi (did not reach our boat) Town & groceries not too far away. You could dinghy over, there is a day dock tie up.

unique hike on Moss Island, 2015-08-09
Captain: , Englewood, FL (905)

Nice stop, very friendly & helpful staff. Don't miss the walk on the Erie Canalway Trail to Moss Island - rugged hiking but wonderful. Before going view the map on the dockmaster's wall & read the brochure for the history. It has rare, deep potholes drilled by glacial rivers.

one of best deals on the loop, 2015-07-12
Captain: , 100 Mile House, BC, Canada (50)

Great spot, clean bathrooms, good book exchange, beautiful town, cheap to stay...only $.50 cents per foot if no electricity. one of best deals on loop!

Great stop 6/27/15, 2015-06-27
Captain: , Atlanta (770)

Stayed two nights (6/27-28/15) here because of weather. Easy walk into town - good restaurants, grocery - even a movie theater! Depending on how many boats are here, you may have trouble reaching a power pedestal, but 30A and 50A power generally available. Clean, new baths and showers - nice lounge area. Floating docks are very low (larger boats need to tie both to cleats and to stronger posts along the wall) and walls are very high - may have trouble getting on/off boat depending on your boat.

Nice tie up, 2015-06-25
Captain: , Essex, CT (1675)

Nice spot -- although the train traffic was a bit loud. The town of Little Falls has certainly scene better days. Much of it seems to be boarded up. The Park has built a new check in building with very nice bathrooms and showers (although all built for handicap so a bit awkward). All in all a very nice spot. We only had to pay 50 cents a foot as we didn't use thier electirc.

WOW! GREAT STOP, 2015-06-23
Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1643)

We were here 4 days as boats were backed up due to the Owego Canal closure. Chris, the harbormaster is teriffic. She will do anything to make your stay a great experience including rides to the supermarket and area restaurants. Rest rooms and showers are immaculate. Boaters lounge is excellent with TV, boks, and area guides. This is the best stop on the eastern Erie.

Facilities like a first class yatch club, 2015-06-14
Captain: , Solomons Island Md (417)

The state did it right when they refurbished the facility. The captain%u2019s lounge is like a club house. Ask the dock masters about the area%u2019s history. We spoke to Dave who grew up there and it was fascinating to here the history of the canal and town and the floods. Enjoyed a long walk on the Canal trail.

Great Stop for the night, 2015-06-13
Captain: , East Greenwich RI (515)

Power and very clean restrooms and showers. Great lounge freindly Dock Master very helpfull and full of great local information.
Cross the highway bridge ,turn right and then right again. Canal Center and river front area--great French Restrurant -Canal Side Inn and Sal's Ice cream shop across in the old mill.
Easy 10 minute bike ride.
We also took the Canal Trail back to Lock 17, dragged the bikes up the stairs and visited the loc and moss island to look at the fanmtastic rocks.

Nice town with Great People, 2014-10-26
Captain: , Westerville (110)

Nice facility with clean restrooms. Docks were low and cleats not up to holding our 42' sailboat so dock master had us tie to pipes holding dock also. Great place to spend the night.

Beautiful Little Town, 2014-09-09
Captain: , Avondale, PA (448)

We tied to the low floating dock for a night becasue the wall was full of boats. Cleats are small and the floats not well secured to pipe attachments so dockmaster had us tie directly to pipes. Facilities are clean and well maintained and the staff is very helpful. Train noise wasn't bad. Dockmaster made several trips into town transporting boaters. We elected to walk and found a very charming village with plenty of businesses for support. We met and talked to many local residents and had an enjoyable morning.

Well worth a stop

Park is popular with locals, too!, 2014-07-10
Captain: , Houston, Texas (970)

What a lovely place to stop. Scenic park with a fountain frequented by locals for wedding photos. Nice lounge with TV, the cleanest restrooms and showers we have seen on the Erie Canal so far. Nice shady front porch with seating and kayak rentals, a limited assortment of snacks for sale at very reasonable prices.

very friendly, 2014-07-04
Captain: , Massapequa,NY (1176)

Dock master & volunteers are very welcoming. 30& 50 amp electric plus water. The floating dock is not well secured to the bulkhead. No more laundry facilities. The town & restaurants are pretty far away. Easier to reach town by dinghy.

Great place to stop, 2014-06-30
Captain: , Rochester NY (310)

We stopped here on June 26 and we were immediately welcomed by a volunteer dock master. Power and water are available and the facility is wonderful. They have volunteer drivers in the afternoon that will take you to the new Price Chopper supermarket or wherever you need to go.The Canal Side Inn was a highly rated restaurant in town and we tried it that night. We loved it. We were given a ride there at 6:30 and when we were leaving the bartender asked where we were from. When we said we were on a boat she immediately said let us give you a ride back. It' s not a bad walk but a ride both ways was nice.

Very nice spot - very friendly people, 2013-10-06
Captain: , Ottawa (1173)

A very nice spot to stop. Little Falls is a scenic and pleasant little town, with enough amenities to make the stop worthwhile. The marina staff are very friendly, and happy to assist you in whatever way you need, even giving you a drive to and from local restaurants and shopping.

A Great Place to Stop, 2013-09-14
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1394)

Late Review August 14, 2013 Had a nice meeting with Dave Talaba, Assistant Dock Master and got the whole tour. All New Docks, and nice concrete wall with substantial cleats. Brand newis rest Room Facilities and very nice lounge in the club house. Also 50 amp available and plenty of Water for our 50 ft boat with 5 ft draft. Definitely a great stop.

Slow but nice in August, 2013-08-23
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

The Erie Canal is pretty quiet this time of year. Not much traffic, so we were the only boat at the Park. 30 or 50 Amp power, plus water for $1 a night. The town has created a nice park and waterfront, however it is a bit of a hike or bike ride into town. Be ready to go up and down some hills. The local car enthusiasts were having a car show at the Park which made for some good memories. All in all a nice quiet stop on the Erie Canal.

A restoring stopover, 2013-07-25
Captain: , South Portland, Maine (847)

The stop here was spur of the moment but we definately found a great spot. A pleasant greeting from the volunteer staff and later Dave, the assistant ( he made a point of telling us) harbor master took care of the $1/foot fee. This includes water, electric, showers (really clean and restoring) and a well tocked boater library, with a TV and lots of local information. They do have launndry. Pumpout is $5. We took a scenic 2 mile walk to stretch our legs back to Lock 17 and then across the canal over the lift gate to the newly opened Erie Canalway bike trail and back to the Little Falls Canal Harbor Town dock, stopping in town for a great lunch at Annie Street Deli.

There is still a great amount of fllood detritus in the canal so we needed to be ever diligent arriving safely here today. Also many of the nav aides are out of place and do not conform to the numbering on the chart.

CAUTION: As of today, 7/25/13, just south of R 386, west of Lock E 15, a partially submerged large tree lies in the channel and at R 412 another tree is lodged on the bottom and in the navigation channel.

This town has lots of history, which the town residents are happy to share.

Great Stop Along The Way, 2013-06-14
Captain: , St. Clair, Michigan (456)

Nice area with very freindly people. They do not have a courtesy car but they will drive you where you need to go.

Bella Vista is a good restaurant that will pick you up and bring you back after dinner.

Only drawback is they do not have laundry at the marina building. They do have cable TV inside and a good boaters library. The restrooms and showers are very clean and updated.

Good amount of train traffic on the other side of the river but there are no whistles so it is not a problem.

I would stop here again.

Great quiet night! Best Showers!, 2013-06-09
Captain: , Lake Simcoe, Ontario (240)

Great customer service - very quiet - nice restaurant across the bridge!

Nice marina lounge and the cleanest showers we have seen!

This is a great place to stay for a quiet night! Reasonable rate!

Great stopover!, 2012-10-12
Captain: , Rochester, NY (493)

This place is clean and run efficiently. Very impressed with what the town is doing here!

Cleanest restrooms ANYWHERE, 2012-09-26
Captain: , Richmond, TX (87)

Nice stop in a park with the cleanest facilities we have seen. This town is doing a great job of promoting itself to boaters. Highly recommended.

A great place to overnight, 2012-09-18
Captain: , Toronto (280)

All the slips were taken so we had to use the wall, but the facilities were first rate. This little town has put a lot of effort into providing a marine facility that will attract transient boaters. Would have loved to explore the town, but transiting the Erie in that kind of heat tends to drain your energy. I wouldn't hesitate to stop here again

Best stop yet!, 2012-09-03
Captain: , Charleston, SC (422)

Great location, only about a half mile walk to town. Ate breakfast at Kristen's...a Mom and daughter operation with great food and equally great prices. Marina was spotless! Everything was first rate...even had kayaks for rent. Staff offered to drive us to town but we needed the exercise. A stop not to be missed!

Little Falls, 2012-09-01
Captain: , Hamilton, Ontario, Canada (366)

Great place to stop, we stopped for the night and decided to stay the day to explore the quaint little town. Staff are very helpful. Facility is very clean with a nice sitting area.

Great Stop At Little Falls, 2012-08-25

We felt really welcomed by Chris. Very clean. Highly recommend adjusting your daily mileage to plan to stop here.

World Class, 2012-08-18
Captain: , Whangaroa (20)

We have sailed the European canals and rivers, circumnavigated the world, travelled the Southport, Queensland, waterways, motor-homed in Europe, New Zealand, Canada and America but this little Canal Harbor takes the prize for the welcome, pristine facilities and overall ambience.

Great stopover., 2012-08-17
Captain: , Powder Springs, GA (214)

Beautiful little town with lots of history, very friendly people. The town has a right to be proud of their city dock--perhaps the best on the Canal. First rate showers and laundry--they even gave us a key for use after hours.

Good people, very historic town, 2012-08-06
Captain: , Michigan City (349)

The people at Little Falls were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the canal and their town. The town had many beautiful old buildings and a lot of history. Restrooms, showers, lounge area were alll top notch!

Great Stop, 2012-07-18
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (445)

Wonderful stop along Eire. dockmistress, Chirs was fantastic. I needed flowers for my wife's birhtday and she found them for me and saved me! (another story)
Floating dock is for boats less than 40 feet and wall (about 4 feet) is for larger boats. Good power and wifi.
Ditto comments on French Restaurant, great find.
Tie up is a park so great for dogs

Very Good Overnight Place, 2012-07-09
Captain: , Schenectady Yacht Club (61)

Clean and friendly. Good location for a Canal Trail hike. Electricity, water and facilities good, but the most pleasing for me was access to WiFi. Good coverage on my boat and stable connection. Will definetly come again.

Nice French restaurant in town, 2012-07-01
Captain: , Henderson, NV (64)

I echo all the good reviews, plus would like to add that the French food at the Canal Side Inn was delicious.

Scenic Stop, 2012-06-04
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

Stayed here 6/2/12. Beautiful park like setting with waterfall/fountain. A converted Erie freight depot building houses the office, boaters lounge, and bath/shower. All are excellent. Dockage is available on the wall west of the building or at two floating docks east of the building. When we were there only the easternmost floating dock had access to power and water. The floating docks are made up of interlocking plastic cubes but it worked okay for us. The Harbormaster (who was very friendly and helpful) recommended that we tie our lines to the very substantial pipes that hold the dock in place in lieu of using the small plastic cleats mounted on the floating dock so that is what we did. While the marina at $1/foot was very nice, the town was a bit of a disappointment. Many of the store fronts were closed up. Still, there is a decent grocery store, a drug store, a small liquor store, and, in the canal side tourist area several restaurants (which we did not try). All require a walk over the bridge from where the marina is located of perhaps one-half to three quarters of a mile.

Friendly Stop, 2012-06-04
Captain: , Detroit (767)

We spent the night of May 31, 2012 here. Very nice marina with clean restrooms and showers. The $1 foot does include power (wither 30 or 50 amp) and water. The town is struggling but the people are very friendly. The two restaurants over the bridge look good but we can not attest to it as it started raining and we decided to stay aboard.

Only $1 a foot, electric and water included., 2011-11-06
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

floating and fixed docks, water, clean showers, 30 and 50 amp elect, no wifi at the docks, but is availalbe at the office/lounge.
About a mile walke to town, but worht it. Everything there.
Verizon is weak, but usuable.

Little Falls, 2011-07-08
Captain: , Huron, OH (176)

Hate to sound like a broken record but this is a great stop! Dockmaster Chris met us at the dock to help tie up, took us to a local grocery store and pointed out several places for dinner. Our dinner at the Canal Side Inn (15 minute walk) was excellent with a nice wine list and excellent food. Live music across the street at the ice cream shop.
The bathrooms and showers are very clean. Chris gave us a key to the building so that we could use them whenever we wanted.

Canal Harbor, 2011-07-04
Captain: , Hampton, VA (389)

An excellent stop. The town is wonderful and everyone here was helpful and very friendly. They really appreciate boaters and any buisness that comes their way. The day we arrived there was a volunteer on hand to drive us where we needed to go. A great gocery store, coffee/ice cream shop, little restaurants and a hardware store within walking distance. The facilites were nice and clean. Nice bike path takes you all the way back to the lock and you can watch people rock climb or enjoy the falls. We highly recomend this stop.

Canal Harbor at Rotary Park Review, 2011-07-03
Captain: , Wickford, RI (560)

Best place we stopped between Oswego and Troy. Buy fuel, gas or diesel, at Illion a couple miles west but stay here. Sparkling clean, excellent WiFi access, comfortable lounging room with work table, easy walk to city, ride available for provisioning.

Great Stop, 2011-07-01
Captain: , Caseville MI (10)

Best $1 a foor I have seen. Chris the dockmaster is great. She bent over backwards to make our stay comfortable, she took me to the store and even helped carry supplys back to boat. The showers and bathrooms were spotless as was the lounge area. Washers and dryers were new and right there. Good wall and floating dock...I will stop again...

nice stop friendly, 2011-06-29

Great Place to Stop, 2011-06-16
Captain: , Wilsonville, AL (300)

The harbormaster, Chris, is very helpful. Antiques and shops in town are within walking distance. Docking was easy with plenty of help. Piccolo Cafe picked us up for dinner and returned us back to the boat. Food was excellent. Bathrooms are pristine. Large room with sofas and chairs to relax. Staff offered to give us a ride anywhere we wanted to go in town. First 5 star rating.

Little Falls layover, 2011-06-11

A great stop - friendly & clean, 2011-06-11
Captain: , Road Harbour (20)

A little gem - after being in Amsterdam the night before with all the train whistles this place was quiet and peaceful. Chris, the dockmaster was very friendly, efficient and helpful! We realized that we can't take our Saga Palm into Canada and she is going to plant sit it for us until we are back this way!!! How is that for service. Price is a $1 a foot and $5 pump-out. They were cleaning the logs out of the water this morning around the wall - OUR PROPS THANK YOU. We'll be back.

Thank you Chris - Kathy, Garth & Zeke

Some shopping 20-30 min walk to town. Dockmaster very accommodating and gave us a ride to town. Good place to watch canal traffic but very close to boats traveling canal. Town has many older buldings but retail is dead.

Little Falls Town Dock, 2010-07-17
Captain: , Westbrook, CT (296)

This is our 7th trip through here and we always look forward to stopping for the night. The clean well maintained facility was built by the local Rotary Club and includes rest rooms, showers, electric, water and a nice shaded park with picnic tables. A bit of a hike over the bridge for shopping. The main building with rest rooms and showers is open 0800 to 2100 with dockmaster on site.

Make sure to visit the new ice cream shop in the riverside shopping district. The home made apple pie ala mode was the best!

This was a clean park setting with helpful dockmaster. Tie to concrete wall and get electric and water for nominal charge. Easy 1/2 mile walk to town for shops and rest.
