Reviews for Calvert Marina
Watch Your Step!, 2017-08-12
Captain: , Stuart FL (758)

As noted already, Calvert provides excellent value. Yes, the bathhouses are fashionably "retro mid-century" design, but clean and there's plenty of hot water! There's a total of 401 slips, so if you like to look at boats, there's lots to see. Just be careful when you stroll the grounds. A large gaggle of geese seems to have made this home. It's not Calvert's fault, just an unfortunate reality. Goose droppings are here and there around the property. The worst is on the floating pier where the geese roost at night and leave an incredible mess. A nice young man comes with a hose each morning to clean up, which is much appreciated. Overall, enjoyed the stay and will return.

A really nice stop., 2017-08-09
Captain: , Moyock, NC (1054)

2017 Aug 06-07 The floating transient docks are new and really nice. Someone told us about this marina and it is choice! The facilities are older, but very well maintained. Everyone is helpful and thougtful. The grounds and walkways are expansive, and very well maintained. It is a relaxed pleasant place to stay.

Aqua Bob Cat, 2017-08-03
Captain: , Charleston SC (450)

Had great power here and enjoyed the stay for the right price. The interwebs were not working so well but that didn't bother us. Verizon cell worked great for hotspot. Staff is great and there is a cafe just down the street open on the weekends.

$1/ft.--great value, 2017-07-19
Captain: , jacksonville, FL (340)

The faciligtes here are old--WWII era, but they have new floating docks fofrr transients wigth good power. The dockhands we encountered were competent.

They also have a wonderffful swimming pool--very large.

If you want to be in the center of tghe action, ghis is not the place. But if you want serenity and quiet, then come here.

The two negatives:

--the wifi coverage at the transient docks is terrible. The nice folks in the office don't seem to be wifi literate.

--the courtesy car, whicih is mentioned in their ads, was not there. Fofr a facility located close to nothing, this is a major negative.

Good experience here, 2017-06-03
Captain: , Stow, MA (420)

Staff very welcoming. Facilities are ok here but not fancy. Courtesy car not working and that would been handy, and had one washing machine and dryers working. No place to eat nearby because it was the day the restaurant is closed (Tuesday) but we got a ride with an unofficial taxi driver since Uber and Lyft didn't respond to our requests. The Annmarie sculpture garden where I stopped while walking to the grocery store was beautiful.

$1.00 a Foot , 2017-05-26
Captain: , Campbell Creek, NC (454)

4/28/17: 4 Stars for Value. Not fancy but certainly adequate. Not near stuff, so you will not get the Solomons experience. They have a Mercedes 560 as a courtesy car. Solid concrete floating piers for transients and near the bath house. Wifi was very good.
Good areas to walk the dog. Call cafe at the other end of the marina appeared popular.

great value, 2017-05-25
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (559)

We stopped here in the fall on our way south and stopped here again on 5/25 on our return north. This marina is a gem. Lowest prices we've come across for dockage and the fuel prices are some of the lowest we've found during our trip. The dockls are well maintained and the facilities are all very functional, and clean if a bit rustic. The staff is always friendly and go the extra mile to make sure you get what you need and have an enjoyable stay. The only gripe would be with the Wifi. The signal was fairly strong but the bandwidth causes things to slow down, particularly if there are a lot of people trying to access the system. Overall a very nice place and we'll be back in the fall.

They Keep Improving, 2017-02-17
Captain: , MV Red Head (3106)

2016: Stayed again for the Krogen Rendezvous. Good facilities at a fair price. Staff always friendly.

2015: We were back again this year for the Krogen Rendezvous. Matt and his staff have really been working to improve the marina. They are friendly and helpful and always make you feel welcome. They helped make sure the event was terrific. We look forward to returning again next year!

Friendly staff, wonderful marina , 2017-01-16
Captain: , Pikes Bay, Lake Superior (73)

We stayed here for 1 night in January. We knew we'd be arriving after hours in the dark and so I called ahead for directions and slip instructions. The woman was very friendly and helpful, even leaving our receipt and map and a 50-30 amp converter cord out for us upon arrival. The next morning we used the super sweet vintage Mercedes courtesy car to go into town. A short distance from the marina, down the road, is a Citgo that refills propane. There's also a west marine, hardware store, and grocery store nearby. The marina itself was quiet as it was winter. Easy to get into and deep which was nice (we draw 6.5'). The fuel dock attendant was extremely helpful and kind, and they even had water at that dock in the winter. All in all the price was great ($1/foot).

The measure of a place, 2017-01-09
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (1342)

Anyone can deliver good customer service on a warm summer day. I fully accept the concerns others have expressed about cleanliness of facilites. My story is at a different level.

When you call on a cold (19F) day for fuel and water and they call someone in to open the fuel dock for you that is good service. When the frost free water is frozen and rather than shrug their shoulders they call someone else in with a torch that is great service. When your hose is not long enough and their hose is split and they send someone out to buy a new hose that is great service. It may not be a resort destination. For fuel and short stops Calvert Marina will be at the top of my list in Solomons MD.

Thanks to Tim and all the set of the staff for their cheerful support on a frigidly cold day.

avoid this place, 2016-11-10
Captain: , solomons maryland (90)

too many other nice folks closer to town to bother with this place.
Better to patronize Solomon's Yachting Center.

Excellent Marina, Friendly and helpful staff., 2016-11-05
Captain: , Wickford, RI (456)

We stayed here for whole week. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The transient dock looks new. There's a courtesy car you can borrow for 1 hour to go get supplies, which we used a few times. The Resturant has excellent food. Washburns marina is a short walk away for parts. Great price for Diesel, and Docking is a $1 a foot. We'll be back.

Update: We returned again, to attend a rendezous, and stayed a few days longer. The marina remains a friendly and accommodating place to stay for a week or more. Great fuel price, and a loaner car to use for a hour to go for provisions. Strong 5G WiFi

We plan to return in the Spring and stay for a few weeks.

Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1633)

The best thing about Calverts is the price. At $1 per foot don't expect a lot of frills. They don't have a lot of help so you need to call ahead to get someone to take a line. The men's room and showers were in poor condition and not clean. It was a 200 yd. walk to the dumpster as there were no trach cans to be found. The internet was very poor even with a booster, very linited bandwidth. On the positive side the office staff of 0ne was friendly and personable. there is a loaner car good for 1 hour, an old MB diesel, not in very good condition, but beats walking. The floating docks were inexcellent condition, and did I mention, the price was right. Also, the best price on diesel in the area at $1.96on 9/28/16.

Great Price, Good Docks, Pool, Rustic Bathhouse, 2016-09-18
Captain: , Colorado (411)

For the area, Calvert has to be one of the better priced places to find a dock. The marina is huge with a number of fixed and some covered docks. The space for transients are several long floating alongside docks. Space for wide beam boats (we and another catamaran were there). The floating docks are in good shape, but seem to be attached to a pier that was rebuilt after a fire and you can see a bit of charring underneath the fixed head dock. Still seem to be secure enough and well protected from the weather.

The marina has a pool that is a fair walk from the transient docks. The bathhouse closest to the transient docks are what I would describe as "boatyard rustic" painted cinderblock structures without climate control. Exposed pipes, rusting partitions, a hodgepodge of fixtures, and flaking paint. It doesn't always seem the cleanest...but we found if you go to one of the other bath houses they are in a bit better condition (tile floors and a bit cleaner...or maybe not used as much).

They have a courtesy car for very local trips. It is an older diesel Mercedes that has seen better days, but can get you from the marina to anything you might need in the nearby (but not within walking distance) shops including grocery, hardware, and West Marine.

Only drawback is the Achilles heel of many marinas...their WiFi is not very good. Required use of a booster at the transient dock in order to get any signal and when we were connected, the connection between the marina router and the internet was spotty.

It is not a 5 star resort, but at $1/foot it is decent and a great value for the area. Oh, and diesel (at the dock at the far end of the marina from the transient dock) was a decent price too. Have stayed there twice and would not hesitate to do so again.

Great Place, 2016-09-01
Captain: , North Charleston, SC (752)

We stopped here in June 2014. Inexpensive, great floating docks, pool, nice restaurant, loaner vehicle and access to West Marine, grocery store home center and drug store (using the loaner vehicle).

Except for the docks and restaurant, the place (and vehicle) are best described as "rustic" but they are clean and in good shape. Rustic can be a nice change.

We stopped again in 2016. The upscale restaurant is gone but the casual one is still there. Other than that, it's the same and a great bargain.

fuel docks are 1/4 mile from solo ins anchorage , 2016-07-26
Captain: , Confetti, Kadey Krogen (1619)

The Marina has 100+ acres. The fuel tanks are way before the Marina marker on active captain. Fuel prices were lowest around. Great staff Piling so at dock are all padded. They have diesel and gas.

Economical, 2016-07-25
Captain: , Rockport, ON, Canada (265)

Can't beat the price but the internet and men's washrooms were very poor. The ladies were apparently fine. The men's were in dire need of renovation.

Friendly and the price is right, 2016-05-24
Captain: , Silverthorne, CO (419)

Friendly staff, nice floating docks for transients, and $1/foot--what more can you ask for. Since the transients are all on the floating docks, we enjoyed a fun "dock party" with five other boats. Easy bike ride to groceries and the Annmarie Sculpture Gardens (a beautiful low-key walk; we were more impressed with the inside exhibit than the sculptures, but worth a stop). Their vintage Mercedes is still available as a loaner car. Note that a large part of Calvert's land is being developed as a 50+ community. Some of the docks will be converted to homeowner use. Catch this low-key gem while you can.

Great spot to stay, 2016-05-02
Captain: , Strafford, NH (610)

With BoatUS discount and good restaurants its hard to not stop here while traveling. The courtesy car is a plus when you need to get to Food Lion or West Marine. It also has the best book exchange volume on the East Coast. Fuel dock was easy to get into with our 7 foot draft but we had to back out since there isn't enough water to turn.

Secure Spot Great Price, 2015-11-21
Captain: , Philadelphia, Pa. (201)

Calvert marina is very secure, and the staff are very friendly. Good price, meeting all your needs. Docks are floating, wifi is adequate, bathrooms are rustic but clean and well maintained. Water pressure in the showers is incredible. They also have a hugh exchange library. We always look forward to driving their courtousy car. A very pleasent and low key marina.

Nice People, Good Floating Docks, 2015-11-17
Captain: , Hobe Sound, Florida (480)

Dillon at the fuel dock, Gloria on the phone, radio and in the office, and Matt the owner are all super-friendly and helpful. The floating docks are wide and stable, and the grounds are expansive, especially if you have a dog. The bathrooms are only marginal and reflect the history of the facility as a former naval amphibious training base. And they could sure use a restaurant on site, because there's nowhere to speak of that you can walk to.

Nice family run marina, 2015-10-22
Captain: , Long Island, NY (204)

Well kept cement floating docks for transients. Very reasonable at $1.00 per foot, $5 electric. Loaned us a 50 amp splitter. Laundry and restaurant on premises. Loaner car, one hour limit. When loaner car was out, owner loaned us her personal vehicle. Too far to walk to services and restaurants. Best bet would be to dingy across the channel to other marinas/ restaurants or use loaner car for shopping. Would stay here again.

Excellent Value, 2015-09-23
Captain: , Road Harbour - BVI (759)

The staff is super friendly.
The price is great at $1 per ft with BoatUS discount. CHEAPER THAN THE MOORING BUOYS at Zahniser's!!!!
Excellent wi-fi at transient dock
Cheap fuel - $2.15 diesel on 9/21/15
Two good restaurants within walking distant (we preferred Hidden Harbor Cafe)
Nice pool
Courtesy car for one hour to local stores (food, hardware, marine, liquor, drug) nearby
Dinghy to free docks on other side of creek for addition restaurants and stores

Bathhouses are old and %u201Crustic%u201D
Marina is very large so taking the trash out or going to the pool is a bit of a walk
Weekly and monthly rates are higher than daily rate with BoatUS discount

A Great Find in the Solomons!, 2015-09-11
Captain: , Guilford, CT (120)

I first noticed this marina two years ago when we stayed on a Zahniser mooring. On our way south this year we decided to give it a try. The price was great - $1.00/ft with Boat US discount...the floating docks were almost new, the staff was most accommodating, there was a loaner car for errands, and although a trek, there was a spotless and refreshing pool to enjoy during the 90 degree heatwave (9/2/2015)...Can't believe we missed this before - will be back!

Hidden Gem, 2015-08-30

Good docks, great staff, affordable fuel & Washburn’s Boatyard adjacent. It doesn’t get much better

Five stars for Fuel price!!, 2015-08-12

Great place, Great people, Great Stay, 2015-08-04
Captain: , Lizella GA (1826)

Stayed again 7/31/15. Great place and helpful people. Cheap fuel prices.
This was a very enjoyable place to stay the night. The owner helped me tie up and get situated. Gloria and Brandi in the office are wonderful. There are good restaurants on property, and they loan you a car so it was a great place to go to grocery, West Marine, the hardware store and about any other store you may need. And the fuel prices are very low! I will come back here again. thanks Calvert Marina.

cheap fuel, great service, 2015-08-02
Captain: , Arnold, MD (20)

Took on 400+ gals diesel at $2.23 yesterday. Fuel dock hand was very helpful and pleasant. would highly recommend fueling there. with the lowest price in the area and limited dock space, there can be a wait. We did not stay at the marina.

7.22.2015 Susan in office is great, 2015-07-26
Captain: , Texas (160)

low fuel prices 2.33 for diesel. Susan made our stay stress free and relaxing. We will be back. just pull in they got you.

Captain: , Annapolis (3379)

Nice protected floating docks. Easy bike ride to food lion and Annmarie sculpture garden. Nice restaurant. Put dinghy in the water to go to the museum and restaurants across the creek. Loaner car available to get to West Marine and Grocery store.

Above & Beyond to Help!, 2015-06-22
Captain: , Lake Texoma (170)

The owner of the marina actually drove me in search of a part as the destination was out of the insurance range for the courtesy car! The marina has very nice floating concrete docks. Facilities include shower & laundry, which I did not use, but appeared in good condition despite the age. The pool was clean & large. This marina is a great value too @ $1/foot. Five stars based on that value.

Good fuel price: $2.53, 2015-06-20
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (375)

We didn't stay here but did get fuel. The dock attendant was helpful and fueling went fast. The price was the best in the area. They are located across the creek from Zahniser's where we stayed with a group of boats.

Huge place on the east side, 2015-06-01
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

Calvert Marina is why you have a dink. It's a $1 per foot and has a place close buy to eat. It's a dink ride to the rest of the Solomons, the dink traffic is unreal. We got a floating dock, the dock people were good the office people were super nice on where to go and see.

As summer picks up and the trendy places on the west side fill up, stay here, grab your dink and go! Hard to burn off the difference in price (our case $30) in dink fuel.

The Owner Caught the Lines, 2015-05-23
Captain: , Sarasota (110)

Memorial day weekend, 2015 is not a good time to be looking for a dock on the middle Chesapeake. The fact that Calvert Marina was one of the few with available spots made us a little nervous. But the place is great. Gloria at the office is a gem. The loaner car is not new, but it is a Mercedes and a diesel, no less. Easy access in a pretty harbor. The owner put us on a new-ish floating dock. We'd return. Bathrooms are adequate.

Great value expanzive marina, 2015-01-01
Captain: , Solomons, MD (77)

Calvert Marina has been my home for the last 3 years. I have found the staff helpful and the rates very reasonable. The amenities are not the best in Solomons, but the laid back pace and expanisve grounds more than make up. The floating docs for transients are very modern. The bath houses leave some to be desired, but they are clean. Most are shut down during the winter months. I have found the staff to be very helpful and accomodating.

Good transient docks, 2014-10-31
Captain: , Oriental, NC (110)

Good floating docks to tie side-to. A restaurant on site. A loaner car to get to stores. There is a Food Lion, West Marine, and a Pet Store nearby. There is a big boatyard next door if needed.

Price is right, 2014-10-26
Captain: , Milford, Ct (138)

Here for several days waiting out the wind. Very nice floating docks and the staff is friendly. They have a car you can take for up to an hour and it's a quick trip to Food Lion or West Marine. As others have noted the bathrooms and shower are pretty basic. But with the Boat US discount at $1/ft plus $5 electric it's a very good deal for the area.

Calvert Marina, 2014-10-22
Captain: , Visalia, CA (380)

Fuel is cheaper than Annapolis and the people are very friendly and helpfull. They seem glad that you are here. There also is a good dinner spot at the head of the dock.

Very friendly place, 2014-10-19
Captain: , Clayton, NY (655)

There was someone to help us dock and the office staff was very personable. Bathrooms and laundry are good. It is a good bike ride, 2.2.mi, to the Food Lion. We dingied over to the Calvert Museum which has a dinghy dock for visitors. It was a nice museum including live animals. We also dinghied over to the dinghy dock at Holiday Inn which costs $2. From there we walked to the left downtown, not a very big town, but a West Marine, We walked to the right to the Food Lion and CVS, about a mile. We did meet several other transients here which made for a wonderful visit.

Good value, 2014-10-17
Captain: , Arnold, MD (263)

With the Boat/US discount, this is a terrific value compared to Zahnizers across the creek. Zahnizers is nice, well run, and well maintained. Calvert Marina, not so much. BUT, at less than half the cost, and with floating docks, it is a much better value. If they put us on the fixed docks, this would be a three star evaluation.

What a Nice Place, 2014-10-12
Captain: , Kuttawa Kentucky (410)

Great docking price.. Boat US discount.. Nice showers.. Would like to stay longer, but heading south to warmer weather. I would recommend this place to any boater. Thanks Calvert Marina

Excellent Manhattans, 2014-09-01
Captain: , Oriental,NC (588)

Tied up here at one of the floating docks in winter - had the entire dock to myself. Friendly service, washrooms were old yet acceptable, but the restaurant on-site made up for this. Excellent bar with nicely made manhattans.

We are Repeat Customers, 2014-08-29
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

For the BoatUS price, courtesy car, and nice folks with great fuel dock, this is the place for us to stay. Yes, you can not walk to town, but everything else is great. Older place, with fair rest rooms. They have many alternatives for docking so if your boat needs a special type of dock, then this is the place. Not many marinas have these choices.

Fun people at this marina, 2014-07-25
Captain: , Redondo Beach, CA (260)

This is an average marina with friendly staff. We're giving them four stars because of their customers :) To us, boating is about meeting people along the way, and we met more fun and interesting people at this marina in a short period of time than most. Everyone who walked by on the docks stopped to introduce themselves and made us feel welcome. Great stop in a great little town.

Great Marina & Amenities but........, 2014-07-18
Captain: , Little River, SC (1987)

We stayed here a little over 1 month while we visited family and then just relaxed at the marina. The people are very friendly, courtesy truck provided for groceries and West Marine trip. 1Hr max. Pool is great but is shared with some condos and sometimes just has too many small kids. There are two restaurants on-site. both have good food. Pearl's Solomons Cafe is small but has excellent fish wraps. I would have given this marina 5 stars except for the restrooms. The transient restrooms are probably in the worst shape (there are 2 others) and really need to be updated and cleaned. The womens shower had soap scum all over the walls. Both sides could use a good pressure wash and a coat of paint. They also need to put a trash container closer to the transient docks. Otherwise we loved the place and would certainly return.

Outstanding Marina and Fuel Dock, 2014-05-31

A good stop in the Solomons area, 2014-05-13
Captain: , baltimore md (644)

We called ahead to see if they had room on 7/26-27/12. They did and took our info, did not need a card #. We did not ask for assistance docking but a nice fellow on a beautiful Krogen gave us a hand. Thanks Bill! By calling ahead they already had the "paper work" filled out. A nice touch. We enjoyed the pool, get your wrist band at the office. This is a bargain stop at $1.00 per ft. boat US. We really enjoyed the Back Creek Bistro just up from the transit dock. .....Here again May 2014 all still good. Very friendly and great floating transit docks.

What a great marina!, 2014-05-06
Captain: , Punta Gorda (151)

Located in Back Creek the marina is sheltered from most directions. The real amenity, however, is the staff, from the owner, Matt to the dockhands and the office staff they are friendly, helpful, and interested in you and your boat. They have a loaner car for going to the grocery and West Marine, about 2 miles away. We stayed in one of their covered sheds (clearance 18' MLLW) and loved it. In the summer when we were here it was great to sit in the shade on the bow of our boat and watch the world go by. In the winter the boat was protected from the wind and the snow. We couldn't recommend it more.

NOT DOG FRIENDLY????????, 2014-04-07
Captain: , Solomons MD (10)

There is not a more dog or animal friendly marina around. Most marina's tolerate animals, Matt Gambrill and his staff love them but require that they be on a leash and I do not feel that is unreasonable.

Rebuttal of last, 2014-04-03
Captain: , solomons (69)

The last reviewer neglected to say that her dogs were not leashed and that the unpleasant man (me) called the police to remove her from the marina because she would not leash them.

The transient docks are superb - floating concrete with vinyl bumpers, and an easy approach. The washrooms are another story - "rustic" is a kind description; they really need to be replaced. The "lounge" was only open with the office, there was no tv, and frankly it looked more like a storage room, rather than a place to relax after a long day on the water. There is a restaurant there, but the town is on the other side of the inlet. Rates were good, and staff were helpful; good for a short stay.

We'll be returnling, 2013-10-24
Captain: , New Hamburg, NY (140)

Easy access to dockage. Staff helpful. Docks are in great shape. Having a courtesy car was a plus. Office staff (Brandy) was very helpful. Bathroom facilities clean, but could use updating. Pleanty of water at the fuel dock, but we were told that there were rocks at the end that we not marked. Be careful

Great stop while going north or south, 2013-10-15

Pleasant staff. Reasonable rates. Nice restaurant just across the road. We will make this a regular stop over.

Best Price in town, 2013-09-19
Captain: , Mullica Hill, NJ (688)

On our third stay we confirm our first opinion. We also realized the high priced places have no courtesy cars and are not close to gracery shopping.
Thery have added pumpouts at the transient docks. But they are not available if another boat is docked there.
For $1.00/ ft. Boat US you get almost everything the $2.00 Marinas have with a lot less glitz. The heads and showers are clean, but rustic. The floating docks were side ties and very easy to deal with. A courtesy car will get you in to town or to the market.

Good fuel stop, 2013-09-17
Captain: , Stafford, VA (305)

We stopped only for fuel. You have to be careful about diesel fuel prices on Maryland, as most marinas add sales tax to the posted price. Calvert marina includes taxes in their posted price, which makes their fuel significantly less expensive at the bottom line.

Great location - Super staff, 2013-08-22
Captain: , Rochester, NY (493)

Very friendly helpful staff ...
Tidy and secure-feeling.
Easy in and out.

Free loaner car for short trek into town.

They go above and beyond to get you what you need!

Top marks in all areas - not super modern, but very clean and just a good feel overall.

an OK 3 1/2 star transient stop, 2013-08-06
Captain: , Venice (208)

This a good place for a short term transient. The staff, floating docks and pool are great and would get a five star rating on them own. The other facilities are in serious need of improvement/replacement.

New excellent Restuarant at Calvert Marina "The Back Creek Bistro";, 2013-07-29
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

Vincenzos has closed and in it's place a great new restuarant the Back Creek Bistro has opened. Better food, great service, less expensive. I sure hope it makes it as it will be a regular for us travelling thru. Our usual favorite CD Cafe has gone out of sight with price increases. the Bistro is open only for dinner Thurs. -Sunday. closed mon, tues and Weds. if traffic improves so will the schedule. Don't miss it. Best food in Solomons Island! Calvert still has great pricing and good staff but is long in tooth with the bathrooms overdue for refresh.

Friendly with Character, 2013-07-22
Captain: , Austin, TX (346)

Stopped for two nights in June of this year. Price is still $1/ft with Boat US membership which is a hard deal to beat. Transients normally go on the new floating docks but one time when they were busy we did end up on fixed dock. The rest rooms and showers are rustic but work. There is a large cruiser lounge with a huge assortment of books for trade. The Back Bay Bistro is great restaurant on the property that offers innovative seafood recipes. Also ate there last fall. Food is excellent and service was great whether busy or not. Check schedule as not open every day. Swimming pool and fuel dock. The pump out is at the inside of a fairway which can be crowed with large boats. Better to go to town pump out dock which is do-it-yourself but free.

Rough around the edges but AOK, 2013-07-18
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

All the reviews pretty much sum it up. We stayed on one of the large floating piers on the north end of the marina. No probs. Plenty of room to maneuver. $1 per foot for Solomons is a great deal. It is true that the bathrooms are not very good at all. This is not a resort marina like some of the others but it is a good reliable place.

Old School Charm, 2013-06-25
Captain: , Edgewater, MD (140)

I stay at Calvert's every year after the Solomon's Invitational race. Dockage, power, water, and ice are very affordable for the budget-minded sailor. I don't know who else would lend you a car, but Calvert's. Yes, the bathrooms need work, and the property is so sprawling, that it's a bit of a walk anywhere, but Calvert's is great.

Affordable Option, Basic Marina, 2013-06-20
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (907)

We paid $1/ft. in June '13 with the BoatUS discount. Most other Solomons marinas we checked were charging $2.30, $2.40 on a weekend. We were on the north end of the west side, with wooden docks. Bath house is open 24-7 with no access code, and was in working order but a bit primitive. Showers open to common area open to doorway. WIFI signal vey good. Not a bad stop if you don't need fancy.

Great Fuel Stop, 2013-06-07
Captain: , Sea Cliff, NY (1075)

Stopped here for fuel recently. The dock attendant (Timothy) was excellent. Helpful in docking, and very professional in the actual fueling procedure. Very considerate in making sure that the hose did not damage our finished teak, and very cheerful overall.

Good price. Note, they do not accept cash.

Good fuel prices, 2013-05-26
Captain: , Athens, AL (641)

Fuel was $3.62 for diesel. Floating transient docks. Mercedes for a courtesy car for an hour. Food Lion and shopping about 2 miles away. Calvert museaum was very interesting but it's on the other side of the bay, easy bike ride though. They really need to work on their restrooms and showers - pretty dumpy. Rate was good, $1 per foot with Boat US discount.

Dockage at Soloman Island, 2012-10-17
Captain: , Babylon NY (331)

Very large marina. Far from town and amenities. Restaurants closed early in the week so check ahead. They have a courtesy car for shoping with a 1 hr limit. They were very accomidating and friendly. Don't stay on the gas dock as it is exposed to the bay.

The best value!, 2012-10-01
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (348)

How can you go wrong for $1/foot including electric??? They even have a pool and a very good restaurant near by. EXCELLENT stopover. Ask to stay on the floating transient dock.

Captain: , Mystic, CT (211)

We were put on CC dock covered with gull dropings. It smelt like dead fish. After some proding by the admeral they moved us. This was better but not great. The flotting docks (which we have stayed on several times) were all booked up by a Krogan gathering.

Affordable and Welcoming, 2012-09-28
Captain: , Marietta GA (416)

This classic marina was a good place to hang for a couple of days to do laundry and repairs. The $1 per foot price with $5 for 30 amp doesn't seem to require Boat US membership anymore.

Facilities are dilapidated but functional. Laundry had new machines and was $3 to wash and dry one load.

Staff (Mary Ellen) was terrificallly friendly.

Great place with even better prices, 2012-09-05
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (80)

We overnighted at Calvert in early Sept 2012. The docks are in good shape and so are the bath houses and pool. At 1 buck a foot (Boat US) you can't beat it.

concrete floating docks for $1.00 per foot, 2012-07-20
Captain: , Mystic, Ct (279)

where else can you go for a $1.00 per foot (BoatUS pricing) and have a view. The staff was very pleasent. Allowed us to use the loaner car to get grocerys. Nice stop on our way to the Outer Banks. The bathrooms need spruceing up. A little paint and fastening the toilet in the mens room as it rock when you sit on it.

New floating docks ( for us ), 2012-07-17
Captain: , Rock Hall Md. (138)

Nice change for trip to Solomoms. Floating docks are easy to tie to. The pool in a bit of a walk form the docks. There are two resturants on the property, but check to see if the will be open the time you will be there. If they are not you will need to row over to the other side of the creek or bike to the center of town for a meal. Bost US discount on dockage and fuel. Note: their posted price for fuel includes all taxes.

Great place, great prices too! Still $1 a foot in 2012!, 2012-06-30
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

Resonalble rates, merecedes coutesy car, location. Shopping close by with car, west marine, lots of marina bars, and resturants . Still good in 07,09,11,2012. This is the place to stay in Solomons Island!

Terriific deal, 2012-06-17
Captain: , Gloucester, VA (514)

A little confusing as we came in as to where our assigned birth was, however, we finally made it. Very large facility which needs more signage to indicate it's many different docks. All in all a very respectable facility with a very substantial discount for Boat US members.

Helping to keep the cost of cruising down, 2012-05-20
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (701)

Calvert Marina is our choice when in Solomons. The floating piers are very stable and easily accessed. The marina is part of a large property, providing a very good place to walk. Should you need repairs of any kind, Washburn's Boatyard is on premises. This is as fine a facility as you will find anywhere, capable of taking care of any problem you might have. They can haul very large vessels.

Though Calvert Marina is not in the center of things in Solomons by land, they do provide a courtesy car to go to nearby grocery store, pharmacies, and West Marine.

We firmly believe that as cruisers, we should support any marina where you can stay for $1.00 per foot with Boat US membership. With other marinas in Solomons now charging in excess of two dollars per foot, this is where we will gladly stay.

Best value in town, 2012-03-05
Captain: , Solomons,MD (45)

I have kept a boat at Calvert Marina since 1998 or '99. It is definately the best value in Solomons. It's not glamorous like the "resort" marinas across the creek, but it fulfills our needs nicely. Terrific location convenient to the bay. The staff is very helpful, and the owner is always eager to help solve problems. There are two restaurants on the grounds that cover a good spectrum of price and menu, and Calvert has a fuel dock at the south end. Washburn's Boatyard is at the other end of the property. The heads and pool area are rustic, but for the price it is an outstanding value. For transients, the fairly new floating docks are magnificent. Calvert is on the other side of the creek from most of Solomons' attractions, but everything is a short dinghy ride in protected water. The Food Lion is about a mile away. For your money, Calvert Marina can't be beat.

Great family friendly marina. Liveaboard friendly., 2012-02-22
Captain: , Solomons, MD (10)

I have lived aboard at Calvert Marina for the past three years. It may not be the most expensive (definately not), but they are the most friendly folks that I have encountered. The staff is friendly and responsive. While the facilities are not the most modern, they are clean. My dock neighbors both have kids who live aboard enjoy the "neighborhood". They do provide a courtesy car; and yes it is an older (I prefer vintage) Mercedes; but it beats a baloon tired Schwinn hands down.

Gem of Central Chesapeak Bay, 2012-02-14
Captain: , Solomons, MD (10)

I skipper a 57 foot Cat that I home ported at Calvert Marina five years ago. The marina is a great place, ideally situated just off the main body of the bay; giving me the protection I need from some of the big storms that hit the region, all while giving me quick access to the main body of Chesapeak Bay.

The staff is some of the friendliest that I have encountered at any marina; so much so, that my young daughter comes up with every excuse to stop into the office and visit. They are always willing to help in any way they can, and their knowledge has gotten me out of more than a couple of binds.

The grounds are one of the marina%u2019s best assets. Beautifully situated at the convergence of two creeks, there is plenty of open water front space for picnicking with the family or just wasting the day away watching other boaters on the water. My family loves spending weekends at the pool or running around with the dog in the large expanses of open green space.

I would suggest Calvert Marina to anyone with a family who plans on spending time in Central Chesapeak Bay.

A nice home base, 2012-02-12
Captain: , Solomons, MD (195)

We have been with Calvert for three years and are very pleased. The creek location is convenient yet protected, they are one of the few places that is catamaran friendly, you can dinghy easily all over Solomons, the staff keeps an eye out for you, and the WWII history is a nice plus. I hear good things about both the resturant and the bistro. This summer we'll probably use the pool, especially when we have kids visiting. There are many familiies and slip holders with children visitors so I know they are absolutely a family friendly marina.

My girlfriend really wants them to consider updating the bathhouses (it's a girl thing) but we both use them quite often when we are there. They are completely functional and we have never had any issues. I think it's nice that they are doing some ongoing revitalization of the area and am excited to see what they do next.

I really don't see how you can beat the price and the sunsetting over the museum on warm summer nights makes me feel right at home. We really love Calvert and have never regretted keeping our boat there. PS...animal friendly too!

Year Round Boater, 2012-02-08
Captain: , Solomons (10)

A great location in a protected creek. The best dockage buy around. A periodic check on boat and dock conditions even during hurricanes. Assistance available to help. A fuel dock that is always open. Courteous marina staff. Provides "the best of" for sights and services in and around Solomons Island.

Captain: , Solomons MD (12)

Great place for overight or even better as a Home base! Lot's to see and do here and the sailing is great 5 minutes from the dock on the Putuxant River. A fun place to just sit and watch the boats go by to. A good value for the price.

Kid Friendly, 2011-12-15
Captain: , Solomons, MD (10)

I have been a liveaboard for many years. Matt and the marina staff go out of thier way to make my two kids and myself feel at home. Great pool in the summer and lots of room for the kids to play. Very nice transient docks and best price around.

Not for families, 2011-12-07
Captain: , Dover, DE (20)

We were rejected from mooring here by Matt solely on the basis of having children. This guy boldly changed his tune as soon as we mentioned we have children. He had yet to meet any of them. We were deeply offended. Steer clear if you're family minded - Calvert IS NOT

Primitive at best, 2011-10-19
Captain: , Sarasota (1427)

Update 10/2011: The Krogen Cruisers holds their annual rendezvous here, which is the only reason we stay here. The floating docks are the nicest feature of this marina. Don't use the laundry as it puts holes in your t-shirts (4). The heads and showers are awful. The owner seems only interested in developing the adjecent property for housing, rather than making improvements to the marina. There are much nicer marinas in the area.
Have stayed here many times. In summer 2011, spent a couple months in Solomons at three different marinas. Calvert's was the most expensive because of the $10/day/month for 50 amp electric. By comparison, the other two marinas we stayed at metered their electric. Running the air conditioning, six weeks at a metered marina was about $50 compared to $300/month at Calverts - no bargain. As mentioned, the marina is located on the inconvenient side of the creek. There is an old Mercedes courtesy car. Also, lots of houses are being built nearby, so some new shops may be showing up shortly. There is a nice sandwich shop a short walk from the main floating docks (toward the point). They have internet but no cable TV. For old fans of Woodburns, rumor has it that a new supermarket group maybe re-opening there shortly.

Still a good deal, 2011-10-17
Captain: , Mystic, CT (150)

We stayed one night while going South. At the $1 per foot Boat US rate plus $5 for 30Amp electric it is a deal. Yes the rest rooms are dated but where clean. The dock staff was freindly and we used the old loaner for the store and getting propane filled and while old, is free. Better than walking. Will stay here again.

Not what it seems -, 2011-08-01
Captain: , Germantown, TN (181)

The mercedes is very old and doesn't have air conditioning. The dock rate seems low until you add the electrical charge. The restrooms are not air conditioned and are full of mosquitoes. The docks are rough and uneven. We will try another marina next time

Enjoyed an Overnight Here, 2011-05-30
Captain: , Cleveland (2083)

Docks are great, 50 amp available (as well as 30). Price was right. Restaurant on site makes a great cheeseburger and their seafood chowder was excellent. Little pricey but the food was wonderful. Used courtesy car to go to the grocery store, west marine. Definitley will be back on our way south in the fall.

Good basic marina, 2010-09-25
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (1164)

If you are looking for lots of amenities or ease of shopping this is not the place for you. If you want solid floating docks, good power and water at a favorable price look no further than Calverts. Friendly cruisers always ready to lend a hand. Bistro Cafe recently opened and has good food at fair prices.

Nice Marina, 2010-09-12
Captain: , Deltaville, Va (91)

Stayed at Calvert's last month for a Hatteras rendevous. Very nice new concrete floating docks (x2). Helpful, friendly staff. Calverts IS on the wrong side of the creek from all the action, but one can dinghy everywhere (shopping, restaurants, bars, WM, etc.).

As stated, Vincenzo's is closed and the Bistro Cafe is now open on a limited basis. Good food and prices. Bath houses are located throughout the large facility. We frequented the one closest to the floating docks. OK, but very dark and dated.

Interesting Stop, 2010-07-01
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1394)

Spent 3 nights from 6-24-10 New floating concrete dock was a good tie up. Courtesy Car available but it does not go over the bridge to return a Rental Car. Swimming Pool long distance from new floating dock Price is right at $1.00/ft 50Amp is $10.New Floating dock was convenient ients $10. Restroom continue to need serious upgrading for transients as stated in 2007 review. No Air Conditioning in Restrooms, Poor Lighting and definetly needs a coat of paint. Hope Managment gets serious about the rest rooms. M/Y ALLEZ!s

Great 1:00 per foot price. Fixed piers but plenty of room. All the normal facilites. You are not downtown but could easily dingy across the river to town or use a courtesy car.

Overall good experience.

A decent Marina Stop, 2009-01-25
Captain: , Chesapeake Bay, MD (311)

We have stayed here on three different occasions. Definitely not high end. Some old docks with lot's of duck on and off the docks. Very nice people run the place. Not on the interesting side of the creek. Either use your dink or plan to get a ride to the other side. Pool is vintage 60's but clean.

Calvert Marina, 2007-03-15

The sensible boaters’ marina, 2007-02-25
Captain: , Solomons MD (23)

Calvert Marina is a down to earth no frills transient and working man’s marina with a world class working boat yard and two great places to eat. The staff is professional, knowledgeable and helpful. They are a Boat US cooperating Marina that provides the best transient dockage and fuel rates on the creek. While the amenities are adequate they are by no means opulent. You may consider them to be on the “wrong” side of the creek for Solomon’s night life and attractions however everything is easily accessible by dinghy or bike. The plus side of the being out of the limelight is the peace, quiet, and solitude provided by this excellent marine facility. They offer a wonderful large laid back pet friendly facility augmented with the attributes most sensible boaters’ desire.

Bang for the buck, 2007-01-24
Captain: , Woodbridge, VA (137)

Solomon's is a working fishing town and Calvert Marina fits right in. They probably have the best transient prices and most often the cheapest fuel. The heads, showers, and laundry could use some updating. It's on the wrong side of the creek to access town, but town is an easy dinghy ride away and Calvert will often times loan you their car for grocery or supply runs.

This is also the host for Trawlerfest every year.
