Reviews for Burnham Harbor
Interesting Harbor, very busy, most always something is going on., 2017-09-17
Captain: , Chicago, Racine, Fish Creek,Wi (3189)

I have a slip in this marina, this is my fourth year. I am on the east side. Good access to Alder Planetrium, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum and Beach. Hot dog ,Taco stand at beach. Short walk to see fireworks every Wednesday and Saturday night and nice view of city. Only one washroom on this side but was upgraded 2016, in 2017 kept cleaner than past years. The washrooms on the west side are decent and cleaner. West side is next to soldier field. There is a small food area on west side of the marina by the office. This is a very busy area on weekends with concerts, Bear football games and site seeing tourists. Lots of traffic ,I am on very North side of marina so traffic is much less than the .7 mile run through the whole marina. If you need grocery items it is about a mile or so out west walk. Jewel and Trader Joe's are available. Access to CTA trains and busses on Roosevelt in same area.

Nice place but not really close to much but the parks.

Sunday Bears Game, 2016-10-20
Captain: , Belmont, Harbor (10)

Great place to get a slip for the game. Would be nice if Burnham offered an afternoon rate rather than just a full overnight dockage rate.

Nice stay!!, 2016-09-07
Captain: , Crestwood IL (20)

Stay was good, neighboring boaters were great and nice.
My only complaint is the DISREGARD AND LAKE OF ENFORCEMENT of the no wake within the harbor. Being on the T-head slip, wake was really bad at times. Harbor staff needs to control no wake zones. Other than that, stay was great...

2nd stay at burnham, 2016-09-04
Captain: , none at this time (20)

Again everything was great!

Great View of Chicago / Amenities were not great, 2016-08-29
Captain: , Prairie Harbor Yacht Club (10)

Great View of the city
Liked having an End-Tie slip (P-26)
Like the boaters that we were docked close to
Burnham Park Yacht club was great and I really like their tender service

Bathrooms were dirty
There were not any dock carts
Getting people to the boat who have a hard time walking long distances was a challenge
Getting supplies to the boat from land was a real challenge
There were not enough staff working the marina - it was not as clean as other harbors
A lot of clutter on the docks

We stayed at Burnham on our trip to michigan from Ottawa IL. Docks and facilities are all very nice. But as seen on many review they are just not clean.

Great place to see Chicago from, 2016-08-19
Captain: , N. Myrtle Beach (343)

Burnham Harbor is a very convenient stop to see Chicago and the city had more to offer than you can take in. Our layover was cut short as we could not keep the slip past Thursday because of the air and water show.

Good facility, easy in and out. Great to have floating docks with our older dog.

First time at the marina. Very nice staff. Bathrooms a bit messy on P dock but with all the kids in for the music festival I can understand.

We will be back!

Also like the Dockwa app. First time for us and it worked great. Now get more Lake Michigan marinas on board.

End of dock = Last stay here, 2016-07-30
Captain: , Saint Charles (669)

Was put at the end of a dock T for no reason they had 100s of open slips was beat to death all night long from passing boats Kids swimming off the dock and kept tying there floats off of our boat parents could care less and no burnham staff that would help in anyway

We asked to be at end of dock and was told no, they were reserved for Mac boats. While there through Mac Race, not one boat docked there. Bathrooms are very and didn't seem clean. Our boat was hit by the boat next to us as they pulled out with a dock line still attached. But is a great location for city visiting. would still come back.

Rented at Burnham Harbor, 2016-07-28
Captain: , Belmont Harbor (10)

Not being high maintenance at all - but when I pulled into Burnham on Saturday night, another boat was in the spot I had rented for $75, so I put my boat on another dock during the Coldplay show. Not that big of a deal, but just wanted to make the note of possibly buttoning up the organization of spots for transient slips. I just didn't want to be in someone else's spot, since mine was taken already. We're all good, things happen, but wanted to let you guys know.

Thank you and have a great day!

Nice Location, 2016-07-27
Captain: , 31st Street Harbor (30)

This harbor is in the city's museum campus area. You are directly across from Soldier Field and Northerly Island. The harbor is clean, and the facilities are average. Bathrooms are not the most clean on any given day. However, this can be forgiven with the location. You can get on your bike or rent one at the Divvy station and safely explore downtown. If there is a concert at Northerly Island, you will hear it at one of the North end slips. Less so at one of the South end slips. Parking can be an issue during Bears football tailgates, so check the game schedule. They have tried to alleviate the rough water in the harbor, but it is not as calm as other harbors we've been to. Boat traffic is heavy on the weekends, and some boaters aren't respectful of no wake. Overall, it is a good choice and it is definitely full of friendly, happy boaters.

Great place, 2016-07-27

Great facility and convenient to Divvy bike rental rack, soldier field, museum campus, etc.

Great stay at Burnham , 2016-07-27

We had a great time at a great facility . There staff is all great people .

The Rain Didn't Ruin It, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Diversey Harbor, Chicago (10)

Great facilities. Rain was a bummer, but the boat needed a good wash! A dock neighbor was nice enough to give us shelter during the storm!

Home Port - Best in Chicago, 2015-08-30
Captain: , Burnham Harbor, Chicago (251)

This is my home port so I may be biased. It has good shelter and GREAT proximity to Soldier Field for games and concerts. It is also next to Northerly Island which is being developed into a unique nature trail area for Chicago. The museum campus is easy walking distance featuring Shed Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and Field Museum of Nautral History. It's a few miles each way to walk to Michigan Avenue but you can walk along the coast and see several other harbors on your way.
Fuel up before you get to Chciago. City, County & State taxes add up quick!

Former home, 2014-03-27
Captain: , Chicago, IL (1056)

We kept our boats in Burnham for several years, first on a star dock then moving to a slip. Harbor is managed by WestRec (they control all the harbors in Chicago), and they have made improvements over the years, most notably adding floating showers/bathrooms & lanudry facilities throughout the harbor. Boat traffic can be an issue, as noted below transients are usually on t-docks, and it is a party-harbor. Numerous places to walk/run/bike, easy access to Shedd Aquarium and Field Museum - easiest place to grab a taxi or bus is at the Field Museum.

Nice harbor for an extended stay, 2013-09-02

Safe.Well maintained. Close to museums.

Decent Chicago Stop, 2012-08-05
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

Stayed here five nights when we could not get into Dusable. The seasonal boaters were friendly but lots of partying and associated noise. Also it's a very large marina and there was a lot of boat traffic by our boat (Burnham puts transients on the T heads). On a couple of nights it felt like everybody in the marina was constantly going back and forth in their boats. Most paid attention to their wakes but some did not. Marina is not within walking distance of much of downtown Chicago. But, you can bike to most places (we did) and there is a very nice bike trail to downtown. However, we did not feel comfortable biking it at night. So, we took taxis to restaurants and to a white sox game. There are not as many taxis passing by the marina as in the downtown areas but we were able to get a taxi downtown without too much wait each night. No problem at all getting a taxi back from downtown to the marina. The marina had good restrooms and showers. All in all not a bad second choice if you want to visit Chicago.

Like Music?, 2007-08-08
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (1234)

If you are a transient, check the concert lineup at the next door Charter One Pavillion on Northerly Island - cuz you'll be hearing them all night long. This can be good or bad depending upon your tastes and who's playin.

The only fuel near downtown, 2007-05-30
Captain: , Chicago (135)

This harbor has the only fuel docks close to downtown. Monroe Harbor no longer has fuel. The next closest fuel dock is at Belmont Harbor on the north side.
