Reviews for Brewer Cowesett North
Over Rated, 2016-09-06
Captain: , Greenwich Bay RI (10)

I can fully understand the one star rating given to this marina. We have been at this marina for many years and feel that in the past few years the services have been steadily getting worse. The outer dock and seawall have been allowed to deteriate significantly. Walking the dock with normal swells can be quite an experience. The slip holders were told that it was too dangerous to tie up large boats to that dock but when the dealer at the marina needs to tie up a 66' boat for commisioning that's an exception. The dock staff are not properly trained and are often worthless with helping you into your slip; if you can raise them on the VHF. It is not uncommon to find the bathrooms without towels or toilet paper with wet floors littered with paper. Even the flowers are allowed to die! The yard manager/ dockmaster has been very accomodating for us when we have requested assistance but he cannot do everything. There needs to be some team building here.

Owners try to avoid using the Brewer service department if at all possible due to experiences with bad repairs and questionable billing practices. Third party service people are slapped with requirements and fees to work on our boats to discourage them from setting foot in the marina.

I went as high as three stars because the location is one of the best in RI. The pool area and picnic areas are nice. Transients may be OK with this marina as long as they are not expecting much of a choice in restaurants, shops, or any supply stores nearby. Like the one star review I have had better experiences at other Brewer marinas than here.

Excellent Facility, 2016-08-20
Captain: , MA and Southwest FL (538)

Facility exceeded my expectations. It is one of the finest marinas on Narragansett Bay. As another reviewer pointed out, their handling of transients is not up to par, but that has been my experience in Northeast at most marinas. Otherwise superb.

Very Accomadating, 2016-06-01
Captain: , Lake Burton, GA (80)

Docked for a few hours. Matt was great and very helpful. Nice marina. Picked up my wife from the airport, cruised back to Hunt/Hinckley to start trip south. Matt and staff checked on me to see if I needed anything. Highly recommend this Marina.

Very disappointed..., 2016-05-28
Captain: , Newport Beach, CA (360)

We are big fans of Brewer's Marinas, unfortunately we were VERY disappointed with this marina. Not sure if it's new to the Brewer family or not, but it is has proven to be one of the worst marinas we've experienced in the NE. Although we called to advise of our arrival, as we were asked, there was no assistance at the dock. Attendant seemed to be totally distracted and bothered to even take my money. Nothing available to aquaint a transient with the local area. On top of that, the description leads one to believe that many attractions are within an easy walk of the marina, unfortunately when asked the attendant was shocked that I'd even ask. Even as I was typing this review, all of the boats were rocked with doors slamming by a big passing wake. Turns out, it was a marina staff member in the marina run-about blowing through the throughway between docks. When asked to slow down, he looked confused as to why! It's one thing for a newbie boat owner to blow through a marina, but there is NO EXCUSE for this behavior from the staff. We will absolutely not return to this marina and if it was our first experience with Brewer, we would not stay at Brewer marinas again. Thankfully, this marina is an exception to the normal Brewer service and facilities we've come to expect.

Great Home Port, 2015-01-12
Captain: , Newport, RI (310)

I spent a couple of seasons here - great showers/restrooms and laundry - clean pool - only sold gas when I was there

Pleasant Marina, 2014-07-20
Captain: , Norwalk (273)

Very good facilitiess and Chris, running the marina, is professional and helpful. Everything is clean and works well. Other long-stay marina folks are very friendly which makes for a pleasant stay.

Nice marina - but not up to Brewer standard, 2014-06-26
Captain: , Essex, CT (1675)

The facility is great. Good docks and slips, very nice bathrooms and showers and a very nice restaurant on site. The negative was the staff. Nice enough, but didn't seem to know what they were doing. Our dock hand caught the lines but didn't tie them off! The person in the office couldn't figure out the price of something for sale in the store - even after us coming back four times. We stay at Brewers a lot and are generally impressed. This one just seems lacking in focus by the staff.

Great Yard / Marina, 2014-02-12
Captain: , New England (50)

After a horrible experience at a yard in FL I'm going back and rating some of the great boat yards I've used to support the good ones. Greenwich Bay is actually the best. Stayed here a year - summer in water, winter on the hard. Good quality service. Very knowledgable staff. Haul/launch schedules were right on time. Maybe a bit on the expensive side but well worth the price.

Premier Marina in NE, 2013-08-17
Captain: , Fitchburg, MA (20)

One of the nicest full service marinas I have ever seen!

Clean and Well Maintained, 2013-07-09
Captain: , North Attleboro (10)

Great location with food/music - secure docks via punch code, wide, concrete floating docks, slips are all sizes, repairs on-premise

Our Hurricane Hole, 2011-10-02
Captain: , Newport Beach, CA (90)

10/23/2011. Pulled in one day before Irene hit. Concrete floating docks with a new (untested) Hurricane Wall. Bought extra lines and did our best to secure our 48' power boat for the blow. Everyone at Brewer's was great and kept us updated as to the status of our boat as the hurricane passed. Not a single scratch and the Wall held! Staying two months then heading South. Will be back next year!

Super clean and super fun, 2011-08-05
Captain: , Milford (439)

A superbly operated and modern marina, with a very fun bar/restaurant "Chelos" open. The dockmaster's radio could not transmit and they couldn't answer the phone on a Sunday, so once they knew I was near one of the young ladies came out to the marina's boundary to find us and tell us where to dock.

Everything was like new and truly clean, and the staff was competent and helpful. Chelos had great food for very reasonable price, and the live music was much fun (but don't order any cocktails there). the marina has every kind of service and sells gasoline, but NO DIESEL.

There is a small, new and wonderful cafe as well as ice cream, dry cleaners, and hair salon within 5 minutes walk. The main town is about 2 miles away.

Greenwich makes a great place to start a grand sail down to Newport. We will go again sometime.

Good family stop, very typical Brewer property, 2011-02-17
Captain: , Apponaug, Rhode Island (572)

There are two merging marinas here creating a huge complex. On site Chelo's Waterfront Restaurant offers service to docks. Great food. Everything you would expect from a chain marina and decent recipricating rates with other Brewer marinas. They all have some of the best heads and showers, great ships store and well maintained docks. Prices are a tad on the higher side, but certainly not out of line for what you get. This far up in the bay, they usually have open transient docks regardless of season or weekend. Good mooring field, but no launch service. Dinghy only.
Short uphill walk gets you to East Greenwich village for shopping and browsing. Very typical small quaint New England town.

Shaft Work, 2010-11-09
Captain: , North Fort Myers, FL (429)

In October 2010 before heading south to Florida I had this yard check a vibration in my starboard engine. They were able to haul the boat, complete shaft and coupling repairs and also a transmission rebuild. The work was done professionally and the workers were meticulous with their work and keeping things clean.

Clean marina, out of town, not friendly staff, 2009-09-15
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens (452)

Good place to pick up/discharge guests from airport. The marina is over 1.5 miles from town and will require a walk or taxi service. We found the staff in the office to not be friendly. Had to ask for every bit of info normally given by the other marina staff sat check in. Unusual hours makes it difficult to have mail/packages sent to marina.

Mondern and well run, 2009-08-24
Captain: , Greenport, NY (356)

Clean marina with mostly modern facilities. The pool area is a great relief from the heat. Private showers are clean and spacious.
