Reviews for Brewer Capri Marina (West)
Always great service, 2017-09-05
Captain: , Westport CT (554)

Stopped here on 8/1 and 8/15 headed to/from hudson river trip. Always very helpful...great docks, easy in and out...second time they even found us a slip close in so our creaky dog did not have to walk as far. Our stop when entering or leaving LIS.

Stopped here with Osprey Moon on our way north from Cape May (143nm)...its becoming a habit as each time we've done the FL thing Capri has been a stop. Its never the plan but each time we've made better time coming up the NJ coast and just kept going. Each time we've arrived after hours and the dockmaster and staff could not be more helpful. This year single handed they had an easy slip...early morning fueling and great facility...list of delivery restaurants came in very handy after a long day. Will be back again.

super marina, 2017-09-04
Captain: , Panama City, FL (645)

Perhaps the most helpful and friendly marina in New York. Steve goes above and beyond to make visitors welcome and meet all there needs. This is an excellent spot to leave a boat with the secure docks and attentive staff.

greatly helpful, 2017-08-03
Captain: , sassafras river, md (10)

Passing through and needed some minor services. Referrred by Port
Washington Water Taxi to Brewer Capri.
The yard was friendly and helpful. Took care of our issues in short order. Delighted to be so well received.

Clean your bathrooms, 2017-06-02
Captain: , East Greenwich, RI (660)

If you are going to charge $4 a foot on a Friday because it is a "weekend". Then clean your bathhouse. Also, showers go from scalding to ice water back and forth as others flush or turn on water faucets in the same building. Premium price, mediocre product.

excellent service , 2016-09-22
Captain: , Capital Yacht Club (10)

Pulled into Brewer West to get fuel, mentioned my outboard was running rough. Minutes later a mechanic shows up and fixes it!

Great Marina - Excellent Staff!, 2016-09-07
Captain: , Keyport, NJ (10)

I stayed here with a group of three other sailboats from our yacht club to wait out TS Hermine. We had been on a town mooring in the harbor and felt that a slip in the marina would offer more protection from forecasted severe weather. Steve, Rob, Doug and the rest of the staff were excellent. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and the rate charged was very reasonable. Brewers Capri West is a first class operation!

stayed a month and loved it, 2016-09-01
Captain: , Albany, NY (100)

Decided to leave our boat and liveaboard for a month. Great dock staff. Steve the manager was wonderful. Would definitely stay again.

A must stop when entering or leaving Long Island Sound, 2016-08-27
Captain: , Stamford, CT (40)

Brewer Capri has everything you need to end or begin your cruise. Docks are wide and stable, plenty of power for cruisers to mega yachts, on site service, fuel, pump out, small pool and restaurant. The Marina is a short water taxi to the town of Port Washington which is loaded with restaurants. Steve the marina manager, Doug the DockMaster and Rob one of my the many staff members are all very professional and can handle any concerns you might have. We have been here many times and it continues to be one of our must stops.

nice spot nice staff, 2016-08-13
Captain: , staten island (551)

went for an overnight had a great time took water taxi to town twice was cool ,although they took us on multiple stops and one night the rain was pretty hard , but marina was nice ,friendly and dock hands where great, had lunch at louies and dinner in town on main st ,place called fish on main ,both places where good ,met steve the owner of the marina while walking my dog ,mick ,now the impressive part ,steve without hesitation gave mick a drink from his hand ,did i mention micks a pitbull? Didnt matter to steve who spent a good bit of time talkingabout our boat and his past experiences... In my opinion in the 15 mins we spoke he impressed me as what every marina owner should aspire to being , we plan to make this a regular stop and encourage others to do the same
Stopped in for fuel since we had such a nice experince last visit and it was conveinant on our way to the thimbles, we met doug at the fuel dock, hes the dockmaster ,great guy ,Im amazed how this place has so many great staff members.... maybe they need to train staff for some other spots ,or share the great people theyre hoarding.... thanks again see you soon!Steve your doin something special here

Good but Needs Some Attention, 2016-07-17
Captain: , Charlottesville (265)

Very nice wooden floating docks. This is a large, shallow marina, and if you%u2019re in a sailboat, you will be pretty far from the shore/showers/laundry. A few obvious things would make this a much better facility, such as A/C in the showers. (By the time I was done with my shower, I needed another one!) Pool is very small, which is no big deal, but it didn%u2019t seem to keep regular hours when we were there. WiFi required Island Time to be usable. As others mentioned, not walkable to town, but lots of transportation options. West Marine is walkable, though, as is a wonderful park for kids.

When the going gets tough.., 2016-07-10
Captain: , MV Red Head (3106)

We arrived at Brewer Capri after picking up our new boat, Red Head, 4 nm away at the US Merchant Marine Academy. After practicing in the harbor to get a better feel for how she maneuvered, we hailed the harbormaster who informed us the wind was gusting and would be pushing us onto the dock. Red Head has a lot of windage. They knew this was our first time docking at a slip with this boat so selected an easy entry for us. As we approached the slip, the captain did a test of the bow thruster - nothing.

We hailed them to let them know and the two dockhands moved into place and began giving instructions about the conditions at the dock. We were forced to abort our first attempt. They were reassuring and continued to offer helpful instructions. We made it in on the second try with the dockhands quickly securing our lines against the wind gusts.

You can always tell the mettle of a person or organization when they are in a challenging situation. Brewer Capri excelled.

We were happy to spend several days getting a few necessary projects done and provisioning for our trip to the Chesapeake. This is a lovely, modern marina with many amenities on-site and nearby.

We had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning under more relaxed conditions... But should we find ourselves challenged again, we know we can count on the professionalism of the Brewer Capri staff to get us safely in.

Very Nice Place, 2016-06-18
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

Good staff, first class piers (slips are tie to one side) and facilities. Conveinent water taxi that runs convieneint hours, but it is not cheap ($8 round trip per person - Uber is cheaperl but less conveinent and less fun). It gets four stars due to price. We were there for 3 days and needed a fourth. Reseravtions were easy to make. Got Brewers card for future stays.

Great service, 2016-06-11
Captain: , Ft Monroe, VA (20)

When a charging issue threatened our trip. Steve at Capri marina worked us n to a very busy schedule and sent Oscar, his top notch diesel guy down first thing in the morning to sort us out. Beautiful facility, top notch service. Can't ask for moe

One of Brewers Best..., 2016-05-06
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (122)

We travel every weekend through the LI Sound and Brewer Capri has been our defacto "go to" spot. Manhasset Bay has some of the best scenery and Brewer Capri has some of the best docks and dock hands around.

Absolute great stop, 2015-09-29
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

Stayed one week, lifted and changed props, had some other mechanical work done, Tech oscar was terrific, willing to work on anything and great personality. Dock hand Lenny was great, pleasant, helpfull and nice to be around. Big Boss Steve was very knowledgible and on top of all issues and could answer all questions. Price was fair and work was done completely and qvery quickly. Town is very nice and has groceries, restaurants and West Marine. $7.50 train to Manhatten in about 40 minutes. Restaurant Louies, on the bay is very good and water taxi was reasonable and a great service. Would definately stay again. View is great.

5-24-15 Here again, all previous comments apply. Oscar is terrific as we had him fix a nmber of items. Went to Louies etc. Great facility, great people, Steve is still there and on top of everything. A great stop. Stayed a week waiting out sea condition southbound.

Waiting out the weather, 2015-09-29
Captain: , Southwest Harbor, ME (185)

Decided to wait for better weather before continuing south
Doug took great care of us getting tied up and Steve, the Dock Master paid us a visit to make sure we were secure
We like it here and we highly recommend this marina

Decent Marina; Lousy Service, 2015-09-10
Captain: , Greenville SC (250)

We went here to trouble shoot an issue with our generator. We were told that the part we needed replaced would "take two weeks" to get there, but have since learned that the part is no longer made and is not available anywhere along the east coast. It is clear that they did not even call about the availability of the part. Wouldn't recommend this marina for service work.

Great Marina-Great Location, 2015-09-07
Captain: , Hull, MA (720)

Brewer Capri West is a very clean professionally run marina. The staff is very helpful. We had a fresh water pump fial before we got here. I called the Marina and Steve took the information and ordered the pump and had it delivered to our boat the day we arrived. The dock are floating concrete in excellent shape. The restrooms and showers are clean. There are 2 restaurants on site but the local restautants ( I recommend La Piccola Liguria) are abundant and only a short walk. Cab service is also available along with a water taxi that will take you anywhere in Port Washington. There is a Stop and Shop, West Marine, hardware stores ( I recommend Shields Hardware-they have a great store and the owner is very helpful), liguor stores, etc.
A Great Marina and a great location that made our visit an enjoyable experience

Very Professional, nice place, 2015-08-31
Captain: , Belfast ME (95)

Regulalry stop in here on way to/from Manhattan.
Staff very professoinal, facility in very good shape. Even office quite helpful. Recommended.

More than Helpful, 2015-07-22
Captain: , Wicomico Church, VA (524)

Called in at 8 a.m. Explained we had a problem with generator. Steve called back at 8:20. Said come on in, someone would look at it and we would know how long it would take. Took only a VERY short time, a full tank of fuel, and a minimal bill for the top notch service. Very pleasant and first class.

Excellent Marina. Very happy with our transient stay., 2015-07-21
Captain: , Ocean Gate, NJ (22)

This is an excellent, high quality Marina. Very clean facilities, with a comfortable atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Not inexpensive, but well worth the cost.

One of our best marinas, 2015-05-28
Captain: , Vandalia, Ohio (170)

Long overdue. We are doing the Loop part time. One of the hardest parts is picking a marina to leave our boat for 2 to 4 weeks. We left our boat at Brewer Capri for almost 4 weeks in May of 2014 after visiting Manhattan on our way north. Brewer Capri has it all. Nice docks, great staff and secure. Steve was very helpful and runs a great marina. Port Washington is very nice with lots of good restaurants. My wife and grand daughter returned, staying on the boat and visiting NY, using the train that dead ends at Port Washington. It is good to have a rental car. Located close to airports. Thanks Steve for everything.

Early season bargain, 2015-05-16
Captain: , Silverthorne, CO (419)

We stayed May 12 and 13 when the rate was $1.50/ft plus electric. We were told the in-season rate is $2.50/ft, which is beginning to sound like a bargain in this area. Friendly, competent dock hand, and a nice chat with the manager, Steve, even though both were busy hustling to get boats ready for the season. Beautiful very wide floating docks. Laundry ($2 per load, two washers, two dryers) in the building housing the Clam Shack. Bathrooms and showers in same building. Easy bike ride to Port Washington--two hardware stores, West Marine, supermarket, and numerous restaurants. Unfortunately, the ice cream store did not open until 1 and we didn't feel like waiting. Got a lot accomplished in town. Enjoyed Louie's Oyster Bar for dinner with friends (with a car).

Excellent all around, 2014-10-29
Captain: , Dover, DE (101)

Good docks, hands, facilities, food, provisions, access and staff. We have stayed here a total of about six weeks on a few times in the summer of 2014. The docks are floating and in excellent shape. Quality wireless, water, electric and dock boxes as well. The staff went out of the way to make sure we were taken care of. We needed to do some fabrication to fix a broken sink and the staff gave us access to the machining equipment they have at the yard and even helped with the fabrication (at no charge). They stored countless packages that we had sent to the boat and even forwarded a few that came after we left. The facilities include sufficient and clean heads and showers. For food there is a good crab shack at the West Marina and finer food at the East Marina a short walk away. Also, a 10-minute walk is an excellent Mexican restaurant. Port Washington is a 5-minute bike ride (15-minute walk) and there are many marine type supply stores there. We had sails cleaned and fixed by North Sails (they came to the dock), canvas work done, as well as full upholstery refit. We were between two 100%u2019+ seasonal boats that could not have been nicer. Port Washington is just out side the tidal flush of the Long Island Sound so the water can get a little film on it, but we had great times paddle boarding in the lagoon right next to the marina and did not have any bug problems in Augest and September. There are alot of seagulls that feast on the local mussels on the docks, but we hoisted some CDs and they stayed off our boat for the extended times we were there. As an added bonus the marina is a 20 minute dingy ride into Long Island sound where you can watch sunsets over the Manhattan sky line, the sunsets from Brewer Capri Marina are excellent as well. We highly recommend Brewer Capri and the staff.

The way a marins should be., 2014-07-20
Captain: , San Francisco, CA (211)

Steve and his staff understand how to support boaters. from dockhans to mechanics, they are profressional.

This is my first trip North on the ICW since 2007 and I've been saddened by the general decline in the marina operations and condition. I realise that a difficult mix of high fuel prices and medicore economy are causing this and it is sad.

Steve and the crew at Capri are still "doing it right".

A must stop if you are transiting East or West in Long Island Sound, 2013-10-19
Captain: , Kennebunkport, Maine (10)

We pulled in on October 3 on our way south from Maine. We needed a layover as we were watching the remnants of tropical storm Karen stall off the NC coast. The Capri is truely amazing. Steve Wachter and his crew were exceptional. After the first couple of nights our dockage (and fuel) were discounted. Gas grills had been put away for the season but one was always pulled out for us with a fresh tank of propane whenever we requested. When the storm hit, it was all hands on deck with extra lines and anything else we needed. Port Washington is a fun town to visit with lots of good restaurants and things to do. Pump out boat is free and there is a water taxi to town or you can tie your dinghy to the Town Dock.

VERY EXPENSIVE, 2013-09-28
Captain: , Bristol, RI (386)

Purchased gasoline here Sept 14, 2013 and paid $4.90 per gal. The most I have ever paid for fuel. Purchased fuel the next day in Cape May, NJ and paid $1.20/gal less. Brewer Marinas over charge.

Great stop for transients, 2013-08-29
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

This is our first cruise into Long Island Sound and stopping at a Brewer marina makes sense. They have many marinas that after the first night, you receive a Crusing Club card which gives you 25% off other nights at your next Brewer marina.

In addition, Steve the dockmaster at Capri West/East does a great job with his staff. They are very helpful whether it is boat issues, or for restaurant recommendations.

There is a restaurant on site but it was closed for the night when we stayed. There is not much other choice within walking distance. Pizza deliver was terrible. The marina is quite a ways from Port Washington, but you can call the water taxi and they will pick you up. All in all a good marina.

Professional and Considerate Service, 2013-08-28
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (552)

We had some issues with our Lugger generator and noticed that BCW was a dealer so we called in to have it looked at. The electrician spent a lot of time trouble shooting without a definitive conclusion, but we decided to change the breaker. The breaker was ordered but unfortunately was shipped ground instead of express. We could not wait the extra time so the manager (Steve) agreed to forward it to us at our next port. We ended up at a slip for 3 nights and since we were receiving service we were not charged for the slip, plus they gave us a substancial discount on the electricials hours. All things considered they treated us very generously. We receivd and installed the breaker and the generator issues seem to be resolved. Overall we were treated exceptionally well and I would certainly return.

Brewers Capri West, 2013-08-02
Captain: , Houston (774)

We put in here because of a problem with our generator. The rate was $2.25/ft for our 42ft trawler. Afet the first night the rate dropped by 25%. Electricity was $15. The staff at the marina was great help fixing the generator. Once they started working on the generator the dockage rate dropped 50%. When the parts did not arrive when promised they quit charging for dockage. Great service and great staff. The docks appear to be brand new and are wide and floating. The 25% discount carries through to all other Brewer marinas.

What marinas should be, 2013-08-02
Captain: , Freeport, ME (608)

This stop was great. We've come to expect enthusiastic dock staff and clean facilities at Brewer's Yacht Yards, so this was no surprise. But this place has all new docks within the past few years, decked with what looks like a tropical hardwood - Philippine mahogany, maybe - and all new power, water, & wifi (with fast internet), all superbly maintained. A long fuel dock with pumps every few yards means no waiting. Dock staff on hand from 8 or 9 in the morning until at least 11 at night for those late arrivals.

Capri East can handle any service needs, as I understand it. Capri West is where most of the transients go, and I'm sure they aren't disappointed.

Just loved it!, 2013-07-19
Captain: , Haverstraw, NY (11)

Intended to stay one night but on seeing how well maintained this marina is, and helpful and friendly the staff is we stayed two nights, and after some addiitional stops on the sound returned for a night on our way home. We will be back next year and will stay for several nights and go out for day-sails rather than to other marinas.

There are two town docks that we were able to row our dinghy to. One is right by a Stop N Shop, the other is in the heart of town. Great restaurants and a fantastic Icecream shop.

Beautifull facilty, 2013-07-13
Captain: , Bluffton, South Carolina (327)

Stopped here for two nights as our first exposure to the Sound. If the places to come are any better we would be surprised. Great docks and competent and attentive staff. Frankly not much to see in the town itself. Highly recommend Seamar Yacht Service (Roberto DeAmeller) for detailing our boat. And, a great guy. Took us around the town in his own car to show us where everything was, and came back to get us when we were finished with our shopping.

First Class Marina, First Class People, 2013-06-07
Captain: , Sea Cliff, NY (1075)

From the moment we contacted the folks at this marina I knew we were in for a treat. We needed a spot to call home for some time this summer and Steve, the GM, bent over backwards to find a way to accommodate our needs. Great communication skills and incredible knowledge make Steve the consummate professional. Regina in the office also offered outstanding customer service.

The facility is wonderful, and the town has everything you need. This marina sets the standard for how a facility like this should be run.

Early in the Season but Nice, 2013-05-26
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (90)

We must have been one of the first cruisers this season, spending the night of 8 May. We decided to stay here as the fuel dock was open, and we could stage for a mid-day passage of the Hell Gate the next day. Not much was open, but the attendant could not have been nicer nor more helpful. We had just picked up a new (to us) boat and were heading south, so docking help was needed, as I was learning to back our boat. We arrived in a thunderstorm of decent proportions, circling outside Manhasset Bay in no visibility for 30 minutes waiting for the weatehr to cleear. The young man was at the docks great; he even provided an extra power cord at no charge as I was one short, and gave some helpful advice where to tie up to get the least wave slap. Our experience with Brewer Marinas has always been positive, and this visit was no exception. I don't think I've ever seen such wide docks. I was waiting for a Flight Safety Officer to start the landing approaches. Facilities clean and neat.

Nice friendly marina!, 2012-10-25
Captain: , Mystic, CT (270)

We stayed here one night on 9/23/12 and found the marina staff to be very friendly and helpful. The marina is very clean, safe, and a nice walk to all the shopping, restaurants, and West Marine. There are also a few restaurants on the premises.

Outstanding homeport for summer Long Island cruising., 2012-10-24
Captain: , Annapolis (10)

Very relaxed and professional staff, and if you are lucky to have access to a car, everything is nearby, including great Italian markets, Whole Foods, and restaurants. we used Brewers as a summer homeport to experience Long Island.
The summer felt like a real vacation, and everyone is friendly. Had no equipment issues, but I'm told they are real pros at repairing anything. And watching the mega yachts that come and go is fun.
Highly recommend this marina, for a day or a summer.
Great Italian restaurant, bagel and coffee shop, Mexican/Central American restaurant, West Marine, supermarkets, liquor stores in easy walk from marina.

Excellent NY Stop, 2012-10-21
Captain: , Seattle, WA (445)

This is the best marina we have ever stayed at! Talked to Steven who told us exactly when to come in after our all night sail due to our 7 ft draft. The facility is excellent and every well maintained. Everyone working at the dock (especially Steve and Rob) were polite and helpful. We left the boat to fly home for a few days and they watched our boat for us. Port Washington is a lovely town, great for walking and you can get any basics you might need. Great water taxi available. Easy 40 minute train ride to NY. Don't know why anyone would stay in NY at their prices when you could stay at Brewers Capri. We highly recommend it.

This place is a jewel, 2012-10-19
Captain: , Essex, CT (1675)

The other reviews are right -- this place is terrifc. Brand new wide, comfortable docks with great hook ups. Service was great. Even though we came off season so they had limited dock staff, the dockmaster came running down to the fuel dock to welcome us, guide us to our slip and handle the lines as only an old pro can. And the yard is typical Brewer -- great facilities and beautifully landscaped and maintained. We look forward to returning to this jewel often.

Solid Brewer Marina and Good Stop Over Point, 2012-10-09
Captain: , Huntington (465)

We decided to visit Port Washington based on other reviews. Large marina with relatively new docks that can accommodate 100 plus foot yachts (one had a helicopter and another a Cooper Mini). The wind was blowing from the south when we arrived and they put us in a north facing slip so docking was stress free. Wind shifted from the west and this caused just a little motion at the dock but caused a wet water taxi ride back to the marina. We were disappointed with the visit as we learned first hand that there is not much to do but go to Louie's which is ok. We did have a good dinner at Marinos's which is a short walk from the marina. New owners have done a nice job and the food was great.

Water taxi was $8 per person round trip. We got a tour of the bay and Brewer Capri West is without a doubt the bet option available. First rate marina.

Well designed but lacking in customer care, 2012-08-01
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (507)

This marina has wonderfully wide docks with new finger piers. The staff were helpful but did not provide newcomer information regarding in house services or nearby amenities unless asked. We would stay here again if need be.

Great mechanical service, 2012-07-30
Captain: , Barnegat Light, NJ (210)

We had our generator quit on a Saturday morning just as we were leaving a mooring. We called and Brewers said to come in Monday morning when a mecahnic was available. By Sunday afternoon our chest freezer was geting too warm so we got a slip. Great dock hands and very nice dock facilities at Capri West. Monday at 8 sharp we were called to see if we were up and about and within a half hour a mechanic was working on the problem and fixed it within the hour.

Lovely Vista!, 2012-07-27
Captain: , Hilton Head (130)

We kept our 66' motor vessel with Brewer West for a month and were very pleased with their helpfulness. Equally important this is a beautiful calm harbor surrounded by lovely homes and in an area great for walks, bikes and dining out. Really Recommended!

Great New York Stop, 2012-06-06
Captain: , Newport RI. (145)

Capri West has all you would expect from a Brewer's Marina. Great docks, lots of good help and nice facility. Steve, the General Manager, is straightforward and accommodating. The office staff terrific. The restaurant at Capri East has a nice happy hour w/ good bar menu. Armando, the bartender, is a wealth of information about the area. Make sure to join the Cruising Club (free) for 25% discount on future stays at any Brewer's.

Excellent Marina, 2011-10-07
Captain: , santa barbara (771)

Stayed for a few days, one of the best marinas we have ever visited. Docks are protected, modern, wide, and clean; staff very friendly and helpful. Power was excellent even though we were on one of the outside docks. There is good fast food near the marina office; Aqua restaurant is within easy walking distance.

Capri West, 2011-09-07
Captain: , Red Bank , NJ (275)

Great facillities, easy to get to from the sound. Dock hands are very attentive and pleasurable. Also has a pretty good restraurant next door. Nice wide floating docks usually have plenty of transient dockage.

Will be back!, 2011-07-11
Captain: , Island Heights (340)

Very nice facility with friendly and accomodating people. The new floating docks are awesome. Pool wasn't open on our visit. Fuel prices are high. Quite a long walk from the transient slips to the town. Check out the Aqua restaurant next door at Capri East.

have fun be happy, 2011-05-17
