Reviews for Brewer Bruce and Johnson's Marina
Another great Brewer experience!, 2016-10-10
Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (450)

Arrived here 9/27, stayed over a week and we cannot say enough about the courtesy and professionalism of the staff here, especially Tom! Docks nice, facilities clean and restaurant good. Beautiful city and nice location up the river - we will be back!

quest to see thimbles, 2016-08-14
Captain: , staten island (521)

In our quest to see the Thimblesthere is always some problem ,8/13/2016 again the thimble curse ,lol,
We reserved a spot at brewer Johnson for 8/13 after havin reserved a spot here a few weeks ago ,that trip my wife had an emergency at work so about 8 miles away we had to turn around after a 75 mile trip from our home port .Last year we had trips here interupted by weather and a mehanical issue .
Tday we finally made it and planned to explore the thimbles with our new dinghy and dog tmrw ,it was a brutally hot day real feel temp 118 , no kidding it was humid and hot, but we made it ,after docking assited by a very capable dock hand . My wife took the dog for a walk,as i waitedour a/c broke . Trying to get it operational was futile ,the pump was shot ,no hope for a/c ,thimble curse strikes again! Called the office they where forgiving and great and off we went for a long hot ride home...I recomend this spot purely on patience shown and understanding,I will definatly stop again, although Im giving the thimbles a wide berth from now on !

Excellent Marina, 2016-06-20
Captain: , Nashville, TN (10)

Planned few days; for non-boat reason, stayed 2+weeks. Could not ask for more helpful staff, quality marina, friendly fellow-sailors. Recommend highly.

Friendly Service - Great Facility, 2015-10-14
Captain: , Jersey City (506)

Branford was a weekend destination for us. We were very pleased. Facilities were clean and very well maintained. Loved the concrete floating docks. Staff was very efficient and helpful on docking and checkin. Overnight neighbors in the marina were friendly and recommended various restaturants to visit.

Long walk into a cute New England town. Waited 30 min for taxi and then made the hike.

Would have been 5 stars except for...
* No provisions on-site. Chandlery only.
* Not super dog friendly (lots of "No Dogs Allowed" areas)
*Very narrow and shallow approach channel
- Avoid in reduced visibiility if unfamiliar
- Avoid when following current if unfamiliar
- Had less than 3 feet below the keel (5.5 ft) at mid-tide

A nice place to stop, 2015-08-13
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (1134)

Florating docks in good condition. Friendly and helpful dock staff. Great protection from all direcetions. Branford River is scenic and worth a visit.

nice calm spot, 2015-07-31
Captain: , City Island New York (210)

concrete docks, and resturant on site...needed a water pump installed done quickly and professionaly...calm water makes for a very quiet night..dinghy up the river and explore the town

Very protected stopover, 2015-07-02
Captain: , Three Mile Harbor, East Hampton, NY (30)

We stopped at this marina twice while traveling the length of long Island Sound. It is very protected and very well maintained. The staff was very friendly and helpful everywhere, and it was an easy place to dock. The entrance to Branford River is a bit narrow, but not a problem. The facility and floating docks were maintained perfectly, and there were clean restrooms and showers. It is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Great Place / Great Restaurant, 2014-09-04
Captain: , Bridgeport, CT (62)

Very nice facilities. We really enjoyed the restaurant. This goes without saying for a shoreline restaurant, but they really did have a great selection of seafood and it was very affordable. The pool was okay, nothing to write home about, but definitely suitable. Staff did a good job.

Decent, full service marina, 2013-09-28
Captain: , New York, NY (470)

I was in a slip on a concrete dock (A-Dock) that is in great shape. Very clean restrooms and showers with lots of hot water. Laundry facility (that I didn't use.) On site restaurant served up a very good tuna steak. Staff goes home early (it was late Sept, so maybe off season?) so there is no one around if you arrive after 5:00 or so. Also fuel dock (at the Brewer's West facility) didn't open 'til 9:00 AM so that delayed our departure a bit.

A bit tired, 2013-09-01
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

They put us over on a T-head in the west marina because we are a powercat. Dock was OK but covered with bird droppings. There published rate is $3.50/ft but they wanted to charge me $4.50 because we are a cat. I argured that there is no reason for the extra charge as they were putting us on a t-head and not occuping 2 slips. They had to call the manager and finally agreed. Plus we were able to use our Brewer Cruising Club card for a 25% discount.

There is not much here. It is way too far to walk to town, so we dropped our dinghy and took it into the Lobster Shack. That was the best part of the day. Best Lobster roll we have found on the Sound. Bathrooms were clean but tired.

Could not be botheres, 2013-01-14
Captain: , Chebeague Island (929)

Winter of 2011 we were coming up the sound looking for a stopping poace and called them. The woman who answered the phone could not be bothered to go down and see whether they had room for us (and we are 60' -- a good night's pay for a marina). Not going to try again.

Great Customer Service, 2012-09-26
Captain: , New York (209)

This is the best marina in Branford offering good amenities with big clean heads, laundry, and a full service yard. Staff is very helpul and will will bend over backwards even for small ticket items. Dockside restaurant onsite is excellent for fresh fish and specializes in fried seafood.

Stopover point, 2012-08-30
Captain: , Stamford (130)

We have stayed here several times, the docking can get a little tricky with the currents (it is on a river) and the winds. I found it wasn't that protected from wind. In fact, a couple had their chairs on the dock and when they got up to go talk with another boat they both blew into the water and sank out of sight.

There seemed to be a lot of boats, this is a big marina with a lot of docks. Also, there were many people just "hanging out" on their boats in their slips.

Big dirt parking lot with boats scattered about, and a restaurant and pool that we have not tried yet. We stay here because of easy access to relatives.

It isn't great and it isn't bad. I'm going there tomorrow again since they have a great transient program for other Brewer's members.

Great Marina with Excellent service, 2012-08-06
Captain: , New York (187)

Have stayed here twice, second time needed to be pulled for fouled running gear. Very pofessional sevice and very reasonable price.

Very nice marina in Branford, 2012-08-01
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (507)

We had a most pleasant experience at this marina. The staff at the fuel dock provided a wealth of info about the area and the dock hands were right there to help with docking, getting us settled and answering our many questions. The people we met on the docks were friendly and most willing to chat. We only spent one night there but would stay again if the opportunity presents itself and would recommend the marina to anyone transiting the area. The only negative was we were told that a dock hand would be available when we left at 7AM but there was no one around at that time.

Great place!, 2012-07-14
Captain: , Mamaroneck, NY (50)

This was just a terrific marina - from our guidance on arrival, to the assistance of the dock crew, to the restaurant at the marina, it was a pleasure to be here. Friendly people at the dock barbecuing and enjoying the sunset. Quiet at night. Wide slips that were realtively easy to get in and out. Would definitely go back anytime.

One of the great marinas on the Connecticut coast, 2012-07-09
Captain: , Poughkeepsie, NY (5883)

We come here every year over the 4th of July. They have a great pool which the kids enjoy every waking moment. There's cable TV at A and AA slips (perhaps others too, don't know) and free WiFi. Dock hands have always been there to help us in.

If you need A/C or refrigeration work, be sure to ask for Jerry Staunton of Thermal He's top rate and knows everything about refrigeration (at a reasonable price). Also, don't miss dinner at Lenny's down the road.

Great stop, 2011-05-15
Captain: , Byram, CT (698)

The marina is clean, well-equipped, and the staff is both friendly and professional. Rest rooms are rather institutional but nice enough and clean.

A full service quality marina, but not cheap. They are the only marinas I know of in New England that charges a premium for multihulls even if they put you on the outside face. There is also a nice restaurant on the grounds with indoor and outdoor patio dining. A very nice overnight stop while trnsiting the sound.

expensive for what it offers, 2010-09-21
Captain: , New York, NY (200)

expensive for what it offers - no floating docks, limited hours after Labor Day. We booked a slip for arrival on a Saturday in September, and were told no one would be there on the weekend to help with lines, or for anything else for that matter. And the rate per foot is $3.25 plus electric!!!

Great Place, 2010-08-01
Captain: , Rock Hall MD (10)

We have been on the water for a month and this is a great place to clean up your boat for the next month. Everyone is friendly, dock boys very helpful and the laundry, pool and restrooms are clean. We enjoyed the 10% off our dinner bill one night and a great bartender the next night. Our boat is clean and ready to go for another month.

Brewer quality, 2009-09-27
Captain: , Great Island, Maine (323)

Brewers offers their cruising club discount at all Brewers Marinas after your first nights stay. The 25% discount makes this almost a reasonable price. There is an excellent restaurant on site but nothing else here. Docks are nice and well kept. The staff was a little shorthanded when we visited. A good quick stop marina but not a place we would spend any time.

Nice Place, 2009-08-21
Captain: , Sag Harbor, NY (606)

This ts a very nice marina with nice wide floating docks, CATV, electric and water connections that all work! The staff are all knowledgable and friendly which goes a long way in making our stay enjoyable.
The pool area is clean and well kept as are all of the facilites, (bathrooms, laundry, store, etc.).
The only draw back I found was the remote location. There is nothing within walking distance as far as provisioning, shoping or entertainment. If not for the location it would definately be a 5 star marina.

Favorite destination, 2007-02-01
Captain: , Stratford, CT (146)

This is one of our favorite places to visit on Long Island Sound. Easy access to a well protected harbor. Great docks and a welcoming staff. The dockmaster always has a treat for the dog too!

Wonderful location for transients, 2007-01-29
Captain: , Huntington, NY (2311)

My family and I had a wonderful visit to this beautiful and well protected marina. Great service from the dock master, excellent facilities overall, and a top seafood resturant caused us to stop here twice instead of just once on a week long excursion on Long Island Sound.
