Reviews for Brenton Cove Moorings
Great deal in Brenton Cove, 2012-09-12
Captain: , Barrington RI (127)

Spent this past Labor Day weekend there. Only some of the eleven docks are available, the others are privately owned or rented for season. Location is great and it was nice to be able to reserve for the busy weekend. Most other mooring options in the harbor are first come/first serve. Guy who runs pump out boat handles payment. It was $55 for Fri and Sat, $50 for Sunday. Only about 500ft from dinghy dock at visitors center which has restrooms. No showers. And there's no trash facilities in Ft Adams.

Long Dink ride in to town. Better bet is town dock past Ida Lewis Yacht club which is a little closer. Then walk to town. Other down side of floating docks is you don't ride with wind. So wind shifts can cause some odd chop directions breaking on the boat. But it's a pretty sheltered spot and staying in Brenton cove is almost a different destination than staying in the main harbor.

Been there!, 2012-07-02

Actually, Brenton Cove Moorings is an LLC Company and rents 3 of the stable floating dock systems anchored by helix technology of four 10 inch diameter screws installed 10 feet into the ocean floor. Coast Guard tests indicate each mooring can withstand up to 22,000 pounds of resistance. The floating dock field is just off the seawall of Ft. Adams in Brenton Cove. LLC business is for sale, which also includes two single point moorings in the main harbor!

Good option with a great view, 2012-01-18

The mooring numbers as another reviewer mentioned are not in order and hard to locate. The view is wonderful . The anchorage is protected but when the wind picks up, it can be a little rough. If this is an issue for you, think about dock space. Also if you do not have a Dingy and have to go back and forth on the launch, the dollars add up fast. If I remember correctly, round trip is around $5.00 per person. For a family of 4 going 3 times a day, that's $60.00 per day just in launch fees. Add the launch fees to the mooring fee and the cost of slip still cost more but the gap does not seem as large. If you have a dingy and use the city Dingy Docks, it is the way to go. The harbor master can give you the location of the dock close to the area you want to visit on shore.

Fun to be for a night or two right in the thick of it all!, 2011-08-07
Captain: , Newport, R.I. (644)

Great views of the racing 12 meter USA Cup yachts and chartered yachts / Schooners as they enter and leave the harbor. Easy dinghy ride to Fort Adams or Casey's free dock inner Harbour.

Try to find a mooring ball for which you only have the number. Balls were laid out (2004) in random order. The launch boys had no idea how to locate the boat. Moorings are too tight. When the breeze dies it's bumper cars in the mooring field.

Newport on the Easy Side, 2011-01-30
Captain: , Newport, RI (249)

The moorings are protected and out of the major traffic area, but you do will have to travel further by dinghy or water taxi to the Newport inner harbor attractions. Sail Newport is literally within shouting distance, along with converted Mansion/Condos and a public sandy beach, so there's lots to see. Great views of the racing sail yachts and megayachts as they enter and leave the harbor.
