Heart Island (Boldt Castle) is a very handy place to clear US customs. The CBP Officers routinely process hundreds of visitors per day. There is a day docking area on the northwest side of the Island. The castle was begun one hundred years ago, fell into disrepair and is now being cared for. It is beautiful and well worth a stop and a tour. There is a store with cold drinks/ice cream and souvenirs, and also a snack bar.

Reviews for Boldt Castle
Don't miss this stop, 2016-09-17
Captain: , Catawba Island Ohio (530)

As everyone said approach from east. We met a guy a couple of days earlier who used to captain one of the many tour boats that circle the island a said don't be tempted to follow them around the west side because they don't draw much and there is a rock out there. Easy customs check in dock on west end of yellow line for customs, tour boats use east end. After checking in move to grey lines. Allow a few hours to explore the castle and grounds and be sure to ride the pontoon over to see the boat house.

Good daytime tie up to check in from Canada and to visit the Castle.
Stop at the "yellow line" first if checking in from Canada, then move to gray line for the day.

Approach on East side, 2016-06-05
Captain: , Westbrook CT (277)

6.5 foot depth carries around the East side to the grey visitor's dock. Don't know about the West side but charts show less water and a reported rock there.

Interesting to see the work being done to restore this beautiful "home". Don't miss the yacht house

Gilded Age, 2016-06-04
Captain: , Austin, TX (877)

See the castle and its reflection of the gilded age. Major work restoring this castle. Can purchase Thousand Island dressing in the gift shop.

Excellent Stop, 2015-09-02
Captain: , Marathon, FL (458)

We arrived at 9:30 AM and since it didn't open until 10, we had the choice of any docking spot. Dock on the Northwest side of the castle near the ticket office. Make sure you get the ticket for the boat house as well. They will ferry you over from the castle. They are renovating new rooms every year and doing a magnificent job.

There's a reason it's on all the brochures, 2015-08-20
Captain: , Oneida, NY (264)

The castle is very cool. The whole island is cool. Definitely worth a stop. Docks can be quite busy. You might be better off docking in Alex Bay, and taking an Uncle Sam boat over.

Easy Check in to the States...if you get there early, 2014-06-26
Captain: , Port Credit, Ontario (241)

We have checked in through American Customs last two years. Arrive early as gets very busy, but processed quickly. Customs docked well marked. Beautiful castle and grounds. Worth a stop as well. Bring your camera. With 5' keel, we have scraped the mud bottom.

Great day dock for touring Boldt Castle, 2013-08-25
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7374)

Don't clear US customs here unless you also plan to visit Boldt Castle. Customs officers are often over-wshelmed with tour boats from Canada. If you plan to spend the day, dock away from the Customs (yellow paint) and leave your documents with a Customs officer. Lots of room along the outside wall of the dock for larger boats, more room inside for smaller boats.

wonderful story, beautiful castle, 2011-07-03
Captain: , Oak Park, Michigan (123)

Don't want to ruin the story. Dock on the northwest side of the island and check out the boat house while you are there.

Boldt Castle, 2011-04-09
Captain: , Beaverton (264)

A great attraction to visit while in the Thousand Islands. Boat traffic is busy, as Alexandira Bay is also just across the river. Quite a bit of dock space available. Coming from Canada, must use the docks on the North-West side of island, as you will need to clear U.S. customs upon arrival. Castle and grounds are worth the trip.

Boldt Castle, 2011-02-12
Captain: , Grand Island, New York (150)

A premier boating destination in the Thousand Islands region. This attraction is busy during the summer months but dock space is usually available upon arrival. Tight navigation in small protected harbor, but space is available for larger vessels on the outer wall. Restrooms available after admission. Snacks available.

Great for Customs Check In, 2010-07-02
Captain: , Collierville TN (977)

Deep water, plenty of dockage, follow a tour boat in the first time. this is a great place to check into U.S. Customs, (Yellow lined dock).
Good to visit and spend a couple of hours. Or come back by dingy.

Amazing place , 2009-08-18
Captain: , Port Ontario, Lake Ontario (410)

The Bridge Authority has put millions of dollars into this tourist spot. It is an amazing place to see. I first went therein the latre 60's when it was just a wild place. The transformatoin is interesting.

Boldt Castle is Absolutely Fabulous.
Arrive in your boat or by tour boat.
Explore the beautiful grounds and castle, modeled after the Rhine castles.
If arriving from Canada, Customs is at the dock.
