Reviews for Bohemia Bay Yacht Harbour
Good Stop and Great Staff, 2016-09-11
Captain: , Fort Monroe, VA (802)

Spent two nights on the entrance wharf to Bohemia Bay Yacht Harbor. On our arrival was promply met by Colleen, who quickly secured us to the dock and helped with water and 50A power hookup. Marina has on site swimming pool, wading beach, kids play area and is pet friendly. Power, water and WIFI strength was good on the dock. Bathrooms were very clean and spacious. A small ships store on site provides boating essentials. The marina held a cruise day for persons with Downs Syndrome; treating the kids and care providers to a time on the water, use of the pool and great food. What a wonderful way to give back to the local community. Bohemia Bay's location requires a car to get to grocery and food establishments, but you can get a pizza delivered to the docks! If this is your first time into this marina, call them in advance for directions and advice on the shoaling in Bohemia Bay. Water was a bit thin for my 4' draft, at times seeing only one foot under the wheels at low tide, but doable.

Stopped by The Bohemia Bay Yacht Harbour for fuel. The staff was very friendly and helpful, very easy to access and depart fuel dock for 37' Tartan.

Nice marina, glad we stopped, 2016-05-23
Captain: , Grand Rivers, Ky (1652)

5-21-16 The gas dock is in great shape, the pump out is excellant. We stayed on the entrance pier, power, water and cable hookup easy access from the boat. Very friendly and helpful staff. Restrooms and showers very clean and well maintained. Also, very helpful local knowlege about C & D canal tide and current. Enterprise will pick you up from the Elkton, MD location.

This is the coordinates for the Bohemia River Channel to get to the marina provided by the marina staff.

Came to the rescue - modified (waiting for a quote), 2015-10-01
Captain: , West End Boat Club (74)

The marina did in fact come to our rescue, BUT there was a follow up that they didn't do very well on.
When we left BBYH, after about an hour in the engine room with Ken & Chuck going over what we were looking to accomplish, we were expecting to receive a quote to install a house battery bank.
We replaced 2 - 4D batteries which act as both house and engine batteries and we wanted something to provide more on hook power.
After a month we were heading home, by car, and can pass by BBYH without going too much out of our way, so we stopped in to ask why we hadn't heard anything.
After receiving the obligatory 'I was just about to call you' we found out that no quote was going to be forthcoming.
It seems that they felt they didn't have the expertise to provide a quote (if we porvided a design then they could do a quote) and therefore didn't want to be exposed to any liability. This in and of itself is fine and possibly understandable (marina, battery bank? what am I missing?).
What bothers me is that I didnt get an email or a call, prior to our stop in, that expressed that so that maybe we still had time during the season to search out some other facility for our battery bank.
Their rescue was great, the follow up, not so much so.
For the record, it is a shame that the marina didn't handle this better as we are also looking to have an autopilot, radar, AIS, engine synchronizer and some other items installed as well. Could have been a good winter project for them.

Initial experience............
Our batteries had given out after an anchor in the River, across from Old Hack Pt.
Ken at the marina came out and brought us to the face dock (no charge). After an all night, we paid the $1.00/ft, on 50A (we are a 30A boat) the batteries still hadn't come up so I had them put 2 new batteries in over the following week (no charge for the week stay).
Bill was under the quote.
Will be going back in October for an overnight and to take on fuel on our way to Philly.
Highly recommend the facility and the people.

Best of the Upper Bay!, 2015-09-21
Captain: , Chesapeake City, MD (10)

I've visited just about every marina in the upper Chespaeake and am convinced Bohemia Bay Yacht Harbour is by far, the best. Also affectionately known as "Bo Bay", this is a full service facility, with an outstanding staff & crew led by long-term manager & harbor master, Ken Long. With a beautiful pool at the water's edge, a picnic area, and the cleanest bath facilities, the basin is situated within a cove very well protected by land mass all the way around, making it very easy to navigate within. Without any noisey restaruants or bars, it is a peaceful, family environment. However, with Uber, or local taxi service, several nice restaraunts are just a short ride, and there are no shortage of delivery options. For transients traveling up and down the Bay, this is the perfect stop over before entering, or exiting the C&D Canal. If you're looking for a great, familiy oriented, friendly marina to keep your boat...you owe yourself a visit here.

Good marina, 2015-06-09
Captain: , Newcastle upon Tyne (463)

Very nice marina, sensibly priced, the only thing lacking was nearby shops or restaurants. We used it as a base to start our trip down the Delaware to the Reedy Island Anchorage. They were improving the docks and channel when we visited.

Large, nice clean marina with a friendly staff, 2015-03-18
Captain: , Chesapeake City, MD (32)

This is a fantastic full service marina. The excellent fuel dock, which is large and clean, should even be better as it is being totally refurbished for the 2015 season.
Store and clean bathroom facilities are on the dock. The staff is energetic and friendly. The fixed docks are well maintained year round.

Quick stop - very helpful, 2014-10-16
Captain: , Milford, Ct (138)

Came up the Bohemia River in desperate need of a pump out.. Followed the general instructions and held our breath in 6 ft of water on a falling tide. But the dock staff was very helpful and gave us a chart with the local knowedge that got us back on the bay without any problems.

Nice Marina, Great Staff, 2014-06-12
Captain: , Racine, WI (371)

We needed our Bimini replaced after a micro burst in the Patuxent River. Canvas Plus has a facility at here. The staff was very accommodating, Ken Long runs the facility and improvements are made daily. This is the best protected marina on the Chesapeake a harbor protected by sea walls and a long entrance wall. Nice pool, well-kept grounds, friendly live aboard boaters and excellent service. As others have noted no restaurant or grocery in close proximity, we were able to borrow a car from some local boaters. The marina might consider offering once a day rides for transient boaters to grocery stores or restaurants.

Excellent experience, 2014-06-04
Captain: , Highlands, NJ (10)

I never write a review but special mention to BBYH. When we developed engine trouble in the upper CB while sailing to NJ we were towed to BBYH. We arrived on Friday of Memorial Day weekend and service manager Rob Meis kindly made every effort to effect a repair so we could continue our trip. Unfortunately we couldn't get parts on the holiday weekend. The marina is well protected, clean and the entire staff was very friendly and accommodating. They finished the repair the following week at very reasonable rates. Kept us informed at all times. Very reasonable transient rate, pool, small chandlery, fuel. Excellent experience despite breakdown

Great marina in a quiet location, 2014-05-03
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

BBYH is my home marina when I'm on the Chesapeake. I have a covered 50' slip (once you go covered you'll never go back!)

Great dock staff and a nice pool. But the big points are the way Ken runs the place and the mechanics on site. They have been able to fix anything quickly.

Downside is nearest food places are 10 mins away by car. But Maria's and Apo's deliver.

Great mechanics on site / great pool and washrooms, 2013-06-28
Captain: , Montreal (20)

We did stop because of an emergency issue with one engine ( alarm: water in fuel ), contacted them by phone while being a few milles from the marina and the service coordinator Rob Meis phoned back in 5 minutes, we managed to get to the fuel dock and they quickly had Tom, one of their mechanics on board to identified the issue, very professionnal and knowledgeable, and after looking at different possibility, he identified the fuel cooler has the cause of getting water in the tank and letting diesel get out in the exhaust. They quickly ordered the part, polished the fuel that was contaminated, and when the part arrived the following day it was quickly installed by Chris another mechanic and everything was cleanned up properly.

The only reason I do not give 5 stars is the lack of restaurant on site, but I recommend stopping there , these guys really save my trip!
The site, the pool and washroom are all clean and in good shape!

Nice marina, 2012-08-19
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (181)

We entered from the north and saw some pertty skinny water on the way in - 5.5 feet with the tide approx 1.3' above MLW. When asking at the marina, they indicate that deeper water exists on the south side of the river. Guess I will fond out tomorrow. Call or ask at the marina office.

Very nice marina.. Grounds are well kept with a very nice pool. Staff is very friendly and helpful and the locals are outgoing.

One reviewer indicate that some docks are newly renovated and other are wood and in need of repair. While the wooden docks are not new, the docks that I saw are in okay shape. Where the docks meet the land, they are not perfectly level.

I stayed on E Dock. This is a covered and newly renovated dock that is in very good condition. My antennas need 27' of clearnace and I had room to spare.

The heads ahd showers, at least those in the back of the marina are very nice. At the end of the weekend they could use a cleaning, but that is true of most marinas I have been to.

On the negative side, nothing here really but the marina.

Not too bad, 2012-06-23
Captain: , Solomons Island Md (397)

The facilities for the covered slips are in very good shape. The other docks a old. I requested a 50 amp slip and was put into a double 30 that the recepticle was hanging off the pole. Tight fairway for my 42 ft boat but doable. The slip I was in had about 6 inches clearance for my 14'6" beam. Pool looked nice, staff was helpful attempting to get a splitter. Lots of pump outs on gas dock ($5). Slip $1.50/ft.

Nice stop enroute to C&D canal, 2011-06-14
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1915)

We stayed in a friend's slip while we were here. Ship's store has a pretty good selection of stuff. Long finger piers. Swimming pool available near Ship's Store.

Bohemia's Best, 2011-06-02
Captain: , Newark, DE (250)

I kept my second boat here for two years. I had a dispute when before my contract was up my boat was moved to another slip without my knowledge so that another boat could be closer to their friends. That rubbed me the wrong way, but I still think this is a great marina. Lots of great friendly boaters who regardless of race, background, or economic standing come together as boaters and help in any way they can. The restrooms and showers are the best I have seen and that says a lot. They offer an excellent supply store on sight, protected moorings and docks, friendly helpful staff, water, metered electric, haulout, repair, quiet peaceful slips. There is good fishing for the kids right from the dock and when the stripers are running some good eating can be snagged just outside the marina entrance. Also, there is a competitive sailing race Wednesday nights.

The river has some of the most beatutiful sunsets and the the countryside landscapes makes it difficult to think about life ashore. So if you are ordered by your doctor to find something to relieve your stress or you just want to cleanse the soul, this is the place to do it.

Stores and shops are a long way from this marina, so except for what you can find at the marina's store, be sure to stock up before you get here. Apo's pizza will deliver here, and has some great subs and pizza!

Super stop before the Canal, 2011-05-16
Captain: , Rockport, ON, Canada (265)

Fuel delivery fine, staff fine, facilities (showers, laundry) very good, quiet protected spot, easy navigation. Ships store has an excellent selection. No other local facilities.

Nice Marina, 2010-12-08

Friendly staff, very helpful at Gas dock and in well equipped store.

Diesel nozzle is the worst I have used, 2009-09-20
Captain: , Oriental, NC (249)

Although this is very nice facility, the diesel nozzle is the worst I have used (from Florida to Maine). It is a large bore commercial type nozzle which is ok. But the nozzle allows no modulation. It is either on at xx gallons per minute or off. The only way I could add fuel to my 50 gal sailboat tank was to pulse the nozzle. After adding 20 gallons (over twenty minutes) and watching other boats stack up waiting for me to finish I gave up.

I mentioned this to the dock attendant and she shrugged her shoulders. They could double the number of boats that they service on a busy weekend if they fixed this.

Will take up to 65ft. Deepest water is on south side of river then cut north just before the marina.
