Reviews for Bock Marine
Needed new cutlass bearing, outstanding place to have it done, 2016-11-22
Captain: , Chicago, Racine, Fish Creek,Wi (2010)

We noticed a vibration when running 2200-2500 RPM so looked up reviews on active captain and phoned to have boat looked at to determine the problem. They promptly got on the boat and had me in the travel lift replacing the defective bearing right away. They worked as a team and let us see everything they were doing. The work was done right and all the previous reviews are accurate. They are trust worthy, do excellent work and are reasonably priced. I highly recommend if you need work done this is the place to go. This is the way to run a marina no BS, stalling, or dishonesty just excellent work done with pride. October 2016 update. I unfortunately hit something In Alligator river Pungo canal just after Hurrucane Matthew. We damaged prop, strut, and rudder:( So glad I was able to limp here for repairs. Called ahead and asked if they could do repairs. They had me out of water in less than 20 minutes when I arrived. Great team effort to get the repairs done. Used courtesy car to get provisions on several occasions. They stand behind their work and are trustworthy. Nice clean shower facilities in a working yard! 5 star plus for quality honest work! This how all yards should be run.

On the hard for 4 months, 2016-09-02
Captain: , San Francisco (40)

I'm from CA and boat is on the hard for 4 months after 4000 nm cruise. The owners, Kenny and Nancy are great along with their staff (John, Randy and Dale). They do excellent work at resonable price. As a result they are very popular and you should contact them in advance if you are on a time schedule for work. Their lounge is great. The only down side, and it has been mentioned before, is that the water has a heavy sulfur odor. Fill up your tanks before you arrive if you are going to live aboard while here. They have a loaner car that doesn't get much use and they allowed me to take it for 2 hours instead of 1 when I had to go all the way to Morehead to West Marine, Lowes and Walmart. Huricane Herminie will arrive tonight and I feel very safe there (hopefully it will only be a tropical storm when it arrives); this morning I saw the owner and staff checking the blocking on every boat. One more thing, Costa Boatworks (Wilson Costa, 252-723-7472) does fantastic fiberglass work. I watched him do a major repair of a power boat and he patched some small holes on my boat.

haul out for survey, 2016-08-25
Captain: , new bern, NC (100)

Kenny and crew pulled boat for insurance survey. PSI wash and haul out was done on time and with care just as promised. Great job

Best boatyard - DIY or get professional help, 2016-05-17
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (407)

This is the combination cruisers look for. A boatyard with professionals who can diagnose and fix anything, but one that will also allow you to do as much of your own work as possible while you are on the hard. It's the perfect balance. We needed our shaft/coupling box adjusted, a new centerboard cable, which involved removing sheaves and making repairs, rudder shaft repair, and a steering quadrant adjustment. John did most of these and was professional and thorough.

The longtime employees are the owners, Kenny and Nancy Bock, Randy (30yr), Dale (25yr), and John (3yr). Kenny oversees and is directly involved in every job. He is honest and doesn't bs his way around anything. He has been doing boatwork for a long time and can quickly determine what steps need to be taken to address problems. His knowledgebank seems unlimited.

One of the best things about the operation is the Ship's Store. In our case we wanted to replace hoses and fittings, and could quickly go in and buy just what we needed, go back and make repairs, and go back in if we needed something else. The have fasteners, varnishes and paints, hoses and clamps, zincs, thru-hulls, epoxies and glues, solvents, cleaners...basically anything you would find in a West Marine, and at a much lower cost. Nancy can also order anything they don't have and it will arrive the next day. It is a very efficient arrangement.

Anyway, suffice it to say, if you are anywhere near Bock Marine, it is the place to go for boat maintenance and repairs. The showers and facilities are nice, the people are friendly and knowledgeable. It is the right tone for a working boatyard.

They All Should Be This Good!, 2016-05-11
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (335)

We've been traveling and dealing with issues. In other words, we've been cruising. Although we weren't having navigational issues, mechanically we were in some trouble.
Last Fall we had Stingray Point Boat Works do some work for us. Part of the work involved loosening the stuffing box in order to align the engine and prop shaft. Sadly, the young man who did the work had never seen a stuffing box like ours. In the process of trying to re-pack the box he managed to do the job all wrong. I didn't realize this until long after we left the yard. For some time now our stuffing box has been leaking badly. By the time we reached Swansboro the leaking had become spraying and was getting water under the engine. I was concerned that the nut on the box might give way and Elaine shared that concern. We decided to bite the bullet and get the problem fixed. We consulted with a number of our friends and decided to use Bock Marine.
We arrived at Bock about 12:30 and just as soon as we were tied to the dock Kenny came aboard to look at the stuffing box. We all decided the best option was to replace the plastic box with a more robust bronze box. The crew at Bock had us in the sling, scraped off the barnacles, power washed the bottom and secured on jack stands in the yard in about an hour. Dale, one of the Bock crew, came up and pulled the box out far enough to measure the shaft log and order a new stuffing box. This morning (Wednesday) Dale was back again to remove the coupler from the end of the prop shaft. He had it off in no time. He had the right tools and knew how to use them. Much to our surprise and delight, the new stuffing box had already been delivered overnight. It took about another hour for Dale to install the new box and voila, we're done. Amazing! We'll be launched first thing tomorrow morning and on our way to Broad Creek across the Neuse River. Did they do fast, professional work ? YES!! Would we come here again? Absolutely! The work done here was top notch and the yard is really nice. They have a great lounge with laundry, kitchenette and clean bathrooms. They have a courtesy car and everyone is honestly ready to help. Thank you Bock Marine. We wish there were more boat yards like yours!!
Fair winds & Smooth sailing,
Elaine & Lawrence S/V Elle & I

Best Service in NC, 2016-02-22
Captain: , Beaufort NC (65)

Thanks to Kenny and the gang! I've made mulitple haul outs at Bock and have always been impressed. Great services at great prices. Very military friendly. I wish there were yards like this everywhere.

Bock Marina - Straight Up Excellent, 2015-11-30
Captain: , Middle River Maryland (30)

Had to park our Hunter31 for the winter 2015;medical issues. They
hauled and blocked our boat in a very secure manner. came back a
month later to finish winterizing-They were very honest, kind, and agree
with the other reviews. They could teach other marinas customer
service-count on them.

Bock's is superb, 2015-08-15
Captain: , Honolulu (531)

Stayed 7/31-8/10/15 Had to have a raw water pump replaced and deal with vibration. Ended up staying for ten days, Kenny Bock and his crew were great to deal with and very fair on pricing for all of the work that ended up being done. The boaters lounge and restroom facilities are practically brand new and kept spotless. You never want to be on the hard, but they made it very tolerable.

You cannot find a yard with Bock's Amenities, 2015-06-28
Captain: , Marion (133)

We had our 17'3" beam catamaran, Angel Louise pulled in Bock's yard. We found service here exemplary but were most wow-ed by the super accomodations in their clubhouse. It rivals Brunswick Landing Marina - which says a lot - as this is a do it yourself friendly yard. Superior help and top quality work - or advice if you are on a tight budget and want to do it yourself. Great ships store too. 50cent pop machine! Nice free loaner car. Kenny & his wife and crew are the best. We have cruised 24/7 the last 8 years through 48 countries and have never seen a better yard experience. the best of the best, 2014-09-21
Captain: , Virginia Beach, VA (134)

Lin Earley m/v Hardship VA Beach - north bound in May 2014 our port shaft was backing out of coupling, I called Kenny Bock, he was waiting with "straps in the water" at the appointed time. That day, shaft was out and on the way to machine shop. Reasonable, honest, helpful and the staff is professional and efficient. I had bottom painted while shaft related repairs were being done, best paint job ever. Great lounge and ships store plus a loaner car! Fair, efficient, knowledgable, a great yard experience!

Bock Rocks!, 2014-01-25
Captain: , Grapevine, TX (52)

Kenny Bock is the most knowledgeable full service yard owner I have ever met. He wants to do the best job for you at a reasonable price. He did exactly that for me with my Gulfstar 50 sailboat. You can do work yourself or have them do it all. I left town for 6 weeks and came back to a boat all finished and perfect, on budget. No surprises. Never met nicer folks. Beautiful captain's lounge with showers. Electric all over the yard. 75 ton travelift. I would send my best friends here. Lower prices than Florida and Annapolis. Also, Bruce Mallard was the best Awlgrip painter that is a sub-contractor there. My hull shined like a mirror and was faired flat and perfect. Bruce is a master certified Awlgrip painter and there is no doubt I would travel 1000 miles to have him repaint my boat again if needed. Bring your Hinckley to him and it will look as good or better than the factory. Bruce's phone 252-670-8255. bockmarine.com

Expert Service yard, Fairly priced, 2014-01-03
Captain: , New Bern (30)

My 42 Grand Banks woodie was delivered to Bock by truck. I was very impressed with the carefull way they rigged 4 straps on the lift and blocked the boat. Because the price was so reasonable, I had the bottom and topsides painted. Again an excellent job. The level of expertise is not surprising given that Ken Bock and his father used to build commercial fishing boats over 100-feet long here. This is a working yard and not a marina so don't expected flower beds and the like. But the visitor's lounge is airy and clean with showers. This is a great place and I will return any time I need work.

2nd stop this year, 2014-01-02
Captain: , Warwick RI (40)

Ken and Nancy, as well as all of their crew, go above and beyond the expected. We have our own person from Beaufort that performs the majority our work and there is no issue having him on site.

During our first stop, we had props pulled and tuned as well as a full bottom job. I had the mind of doing the sanding and painting but their price was great, they did it immediately and Randy did a great job.

This isn't the prettiest facility in the world but the lounge and facilities are relatively new and kept clean. They have a good selection of items at good pricing in the ship's store saving trips to town. They also have a clean courtsey car in good repair available.

We will stop there in the future as we pass by for all work we can do on a non-emergency basis.

Best boatyard so far, 2013-12-31
Captain: , Saint Augustine (70)

The boat was hauled out at Bock for me to do a bottom job and a few maintenance projects (August - December). The family owned boatyard is respectful and helpful. I picked this yard because of friends recommendations and the fact that it is a true Do It Yourself yard. A ships store on site has better prices than the local chain store and most everything you need is there. For my next haulout, if I am in the area, I will return to Bock.

great service, wonderful people, 2013-12-10
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (280)

I live in the area and have used their services yearly over the course of owning 2 boats. This has included engine work, fiberglass repairs and routine bottom cleaning and painting. The work is excellent and the people are friendly and accommodating. The facility is on the ICW, but 5 miles from town. A loner car is available, or locals will provide a ride.

service you can trust, 2013-11-04
Captain: , Annapolis (160)

Last year I was taking my '06 37' sailboat down the waterway when we developed a steering problem. Bock marine came recommended by several local marine business owners so I dropped the boat off for them to diagnose and repair. I did not stay with the boat but retuned after the work was done. Many repair yards would have made a big project out of this be it right or wrong starting with dropping the rudder and disassembly of the steering gear. Bock identified the problem as the rudder "floating" up against the hull. Pried it down, tightened her up and launch. Simple and cheap. Trust these people.

Fall 2012 Refit on Catalina 36 "Coy Mistress", 2013-02-11
Captain: , Raleigh, NC (62)

This is not a fancy place, as others have noted. However, you'll get good work at a fair price. In October 2012 I had a haul out, blister repair, engine serviced, rudder modified on a Catalina 36. Bock and its subcontractors did a great job: I was particularly happy with Mike Collins (engine repair) and Alex Baker (fiberglass), though everyone I dealt with was excellent. If you go to the website, note the number of long-time employees at Bock. I've had them do boat repair since 1998. It has always been a good experience.

Great DIY yard at great Price, 2011-12-12
Captain: , Quebec, Canada (268)

Dec.2011 They now have a brand boater's lodge. One of the best i have seen. I spent 5 years on and off fixing my boat, The owner Kenny know a lot about boat of all kind. He work with his father building big fishing boat. He was raise around boat building. If he can not resolve your problem, he will steer you in the wright direction as he have a very large network of boat worker. The smal marine store have pretty much the current stuf and if you need some not in stock, he wil order it and be available the next day in most of the time. The price is not inflated like most of the yard. They beat Boat US price in 95% of the case.
Highly recommende it.

HONEST FOLK, 2011-06-08
Captain: , Kingston, Ontario, Canada (546)

We stayed here in 2009 from August to November. We mostly stayed at dock (he doesn't have much room on dock) but we also hauled and were on the hard for 2 weeks. The owner, Kenny Bock, is very knowledgeable and very honest. He takes a small percentage of the bill as profit, but he is up front about it. His store can get just about anything, and its just not worth it trying to drive all around to source things that can be ordered in within 24 hours. Its not a GLOSSY marina, and Kenny doesn't drive a Ferrari. I'd certainly go back there again.

Best marine service anywhere, 2011-04-16
Captain: , Cruising (3259)

Bock's is an excellent yard - very knowledgeable, reasonable rates, top-quality work. Expert at PropSpeed application. Old fashioned work ethic and values.

Competent and very accommodating!, 2011-01-26
Captain: , Annapolis (35)

Recommended to us by Beaufort Docks personnel and we recommend Bock Marine to you. Kenny Bock runs a very capable and accommodating boat yard. Repaired our shaft strut in May 2008 after it broke off at the hull entering Beaufort Inlet. Towed from Beaufort Docks to Bock Marine on the first Monday in May, and despite third party contracting, tricky fiberglass work and painting, were launched and sailed north that Thursday. Our crew of 3 stayed on the boat and we even had the free use of one of Bock%u2019s cars during the daytime. They%u2019re honest and pleasant to deal with.

C'est la Vie, 2010-08-11
Captain: , Everglades City, FL (230)

We have hauled multiple sailing vessels at Bock and have always been pleased with the service. This is our favorite yard for DIY work. The staff are able and helpful when we exceede our abilites and need to contract our portions of our projects.

We have never lived aboard in this yard. It is "remote" and would be difficult to live aboard for any length of time without a vehicle.

When we last hauled at at Bock (2008) they did have a loaner car.

Service the way it should be!, 2009-09-29
Captain: , Dundalk Md. (62)

While taking our 40' Ocean south in Dec.07 we struck a submerged object. 1 call to Bock Marine 20 minutes later boat is in the lift props changed and starboard strut straightened!!! Having our own yard in Baltimore I know and appreciate GREAT service!

Basic repairs yard with some DIY, 2008-09-24
Captain: , Key Biscayne FL (3049)

I did my bottom work here in 2006 and had good service.
Kenny Bock is very knowledgeable. Good marine store for DIY painting, etc at fair prices
