Reviews for Bocas Marina
Interesting Place, 2016-01-12
Captain: , Sailing (290)

I flew in to pickup a catamaran to deliver back to Florida. The staff was helpful. If you need help with your boat...Jeff is the local mechanic. Russell will help with electrical issues. Andy can help with everything. Lobo is a great sailmaker and rigger. The dock is loaded with armchair admirals who live there just enjoying the location and getting high.
The restaurant is very good and very reasonable. Bocas the town is...very interesting. Some good restaurants.

This is a Great Place to Stay, 2015-07-09
Captain: , Hamilton, Ontario (612)

We needed a place to get some much needed repairs done after our first year of cruising. From the prompt helpful emails back and forth before we arrived to sending a panga out to help us back into our slip, these folks know their stuff. From transients who stay a few days to a few who look like they have never left, the whole colorful cast of characters made our stay her wonderful. The staff can't seem to want to do enough for you, and the other boaters were a wealth of local information and assistance. There are three resident men who collectively understand everything there is to understand about boats, and they work in conjunction with the marina to provide affordable, expertise. The marina also employs enough staff who can help out with other boat tasks, like sanding and varnishing at very reasonable rates. As far as security goes, in the two months we were here we never heard of a single incident and we noticed very few locks one very few chains... Lastly, we seemed to find someone who had been just about everywhere at some time or another, so we received a wealth of really helpful information about places we are planning to go.... Lastly, Bocas Town is a place that you just shouldn' miss. A friendly place where finding what you need is half the fun....

EXCELLENT LOCATION AND FRIENDLY STAFF, 2015-04-06
Captain: , Houston, Texas (164)

Our trimaran sailboat ULTRA has been here at the dock (slip) since last August. We arrived from San Blas and this was amazing place to arrive after that journey. The marina has an EXCELLENT staff, FREE water, Diesel for Sale( Gasoline can be purchased just a few yards from the marina at a local house), GREAT Restaurant with good food at good prices and HAPPY HOUR, FREE shuttle boat service at scheduled times throughout the day to Bocas Town for shopping, restaurants, airport, etc.
We would give this marina a 5 Star rating, if they had a swimming pool, so we give them a 4.99999 rating. However, we hear a pool is in the future plans. The Marina Manager, Chuck, and the assistant manager, Mike, are truly helpful with all of your marina needs. Elizabeth, the office manager can assist with many things and even travel arrangements. Jackie takes care of the billing for the guests.
We have thoroughly enjoyed being here and the owners Courtney and Rosemary for very accomodating and friendly. They are very knowledgable of this area, since they have been here for almost 20 years, so they can provide a wealth of information. They also run a full service shipyard in Almirante just down the way from here. We cannot haul out there, as our beam is 26 ft. wide, but we have heard very good reviews of the shipyard. There is great snorkeling nearby, too, and a great anchorage just outside. If you are anchored out, you are welcome to come to the restaurant and if you are need of showers or trash drop off, the cost is $2 per shower, and $2 per bag of trash. Notes: There is a great engine mechanic (JEFF), a great fiberglass and woodworking man (Worth) and an Electronics Guru (Russell) that are all on site to help with your boat needs. ENJOY!

Best spot in Bocas, 2015-03-08
Captain: , Great Falls, VA (1092)

I have been in Bocas del Toro for 8 months now, I have looked at all the marinas available (there are only 3 right now). Bocas Marina is by far the best value for service and convience of all of them.

Modern concrete floating docks are as good as you will find anywhere. Dock staff regularly pressure washes them (a nessesity in the humid climate here). Some cleat locations are a bit weird though.

Marina store on site, selection is limited, but still far more proper marine parts on hand then anywhere else in bocas. Plus being a Marine Warehouse agent you can get anything under the sun shipped in for a reasonable price.

Dock staff is very friendly and competent, and service work is very reasonable. $1/ft bottom cleaning cant be beat.

Laundry facilities on site, wash and fold service only, this is one of my very few gripes, I would prefer a coin op DIY facility, but you will not find coin op anywhere in Bocas, its all wash and fold, when in Rome I guess.

The marina is on the same island as the main town, but there is no road between, so you still need to take a launch to town. But its a quick ride and the marina provides free launch service 6 days a week. When the marina lauch is not running on sunday or if you need to go to town at an odd time (nighttime) its a $2 water taxi.

On site is the Calypso Cantina, run by the marina owners wife. Bar/restraunt serving food breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday but sunday. Rosemary who runs it takes special care of quality, it can be a little expensive for food but you definately get what you pay for. Beer is cheap (below average) and you get a good mix of old salts for happy hour. Fridays typically have live music. One big downside is you occationally have to put up with Fox News on the TV(maybe an upside for others).

I rarely do this, but I do have to take issue with a previous reviewer. It was suggested that Red Frog is newer, nicer and cheaper. Well Red Frog is newer, but only by a few years, comparing a 10 year old marina to a 5 year old marina is a bit silly, both have concrete floating docks, and both are modern. The previous review made it sound like Bocas Marina is some delapitaded decades old marina, it is certanly not, its as modern as anything you find anywhere.

As for price, Red Frog and Bocas Marina are the same price, so not sure what the reviewer is saying there? In fact, when you figure in access to town, Red Frog offers lauch service only a few times a week at very limited times, and being far from town its $5 a person rather then $2. So with the exact same dock prices, Bocas Marina is actually cheaper. I think the reviewer has some odd axe to grind.

Probably the longest review I have written, but I have been here for far longer then most places I stop at.

Needs an overhaul, 2015-01-30

We found Red Frog to be a much better option, less expensive, much better facilities, newer, nicer and more interested in being of service.

Supportive, Friendly Staff, 2014-05-08
Captain: , Fond du Lac, WI (239)

This marina offers a safe, clean and comfortable place to stay. The access to town is easy. The docks and facilities are clean and well kept. The staff are very friendly and ready and willing to help with local knowledge as well as a source for general cruising subjects.

Nice and quiet place, 2014-04-12
Captain: , Guatemala (246)

Away from the hustle and bustle of Bocas, this is a very nice place to rest up and wait for a good weather window when going north. The marina runs a regular water taxi to town. Propane can be had if you have time for a one week turn around. Bring enough deet to ward of the no-seeums.
Great snorkeling within a 10 minute dinghy drive. They also have a 'canvas lady' on site and Jeff, the resident mechanic can assist you with engine problems. Overall a very good experience.

Enjoyed my stay, 2013-05-11
Captain: , Columbia, Missouri (415)

Was here in January of 2012 for a delivery. Enjoyed my stay and made so lifelong friends. The Calypso Cantina was a hang-out for expats and local cruisers. Friendly helpful staff. Can't wait to go back.

A well run marina, 2012-07-13
Captain: , Port Aransas, TX (10)

I have been in and out of the Bocas marinas since early 2006, 90% of the employees here at Bocas Marina date from before that time. They know what they are doing and do it well with good cheer. They are an agent for Marine Warehouse out of Miami and can get you most anything needed for your vessel. The cantina is a great cruiser hangout with excelent food and the lady that runs the wash & fold service is also a good seamstress. She also makes sure the showers and restrooms are spotless.

Very welcoming, 2012-02-03
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (1211)

Dominated by US/Canadian/European ex-pats, mostly long-term liveaboards. Bar/restaurant is very nice and accommodating. Everyone was very helpful and supportive, staff and residents both.
