Secure, Clean, Affordable Dockage for Active/Retired Military, 2017-07-10
Captain: , Galveston Texas (285)

This facility is somewhat remote but everything is clean, works, and well managed. The beach and Navigator's Bar & Grill are a big plus. The air station has a contract with the local Enterprise car rental with a discount and pick up at the marina office. However, car availability can be limited so call ahead 305 292-0220 and reference NAS customer #EXCH.

Great for Active or Retired Military, 2017-05-10
Captain: , Portland, Oregon (576)

We stayed here for 6 days and found it to be more than adequate for our needs and, even with car rental, we found it to be a cost effective way to visit Key West. We made trips into town each day and also had the capability to go to the grocery and other sights that might not be available to those staying in the very expensive marina in "the bight."

A terrific find for military and retired military cruisers, 2017-04-05
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (1332)

You'll never confuse the Boca Chica Navy Marina with th fancy Key West resorts, but for active duty and retired military people like me it's a godsend. We spent several weeks there this spring and loved it--we hope to be back for more next year.

By far the lowest price marina in the Key West area
Deep water 15-foot approach and alongside
Solid, hurricane-proof fixed concrete docks
Excellent dockmaster and staff
Friendly dock neighbors - lots of smiles
Clean and in excellent repair - everything works!
Excllent security - most people don't even lock their boats
Lots of parking
Navigator's bar and grill - not fancy but a nice amenity
Key West is a great place to visit and you're only 10 minutes away by car
Navy Exchange and commissary at Sigsbee in Key West proper, about 10 minutes away
Two Publix supermarkets about 10 minutes away
Key West is known for its great restaurants - try Hogfish Bar and Grill on nearby Stock Island, terrific food and a "rustic" atmosphere
Fantastic weather and little rain
Great fresh local seafood - try Fisbusterz fish market on Stock Island - don't miss the Key West pink shrimp, arguably the best in the world
The air is pristine - boats rarely need washing!
Marina heads and showers are clean but very basicExcellent electric and nice fresh water on the piers

Marine is just 1/2 mile from the airstrip
The F18 jets are VERY noisy at times - we measured up to 100 decibels on the piers
As happens with low-cost marinas, many boats there are barely one step away from the boneyard, though there are pristine boats as well
Having a car is all but essential - main gate to the base (the only one in use) is about 2.5 miles away and downtown Key West is a 10-minute drive
No broadcast TV other than the tourist channel
Essentially no amenities on base other than a post office
No UPS or FedEx or USPS deliveries accepted at the marina

Good features and some others, 2017-02-17
Captain: , Solomons, MD (271)

Stayed 3 weeks at this remote marina. 2 mile hike to get your mail at the onbase USPS office. UPS packages need to be picked up on Key West. You really must have a car here is you intend to stay for any length of time. The jet noise is very loud between 0730 and sunset. The water in the marina is crystal clear and the Navigator Bar is very nice. The marina staff is friendly and helpful. Easy day trip with your boat to an offshore reef for spectacular snorkeling. 3 star rating due to the remotness and inability to get mail/packages at the marina.

Everyting is great except., 2016-12-09
Captain: , Apponaug R.I. (908)

The $1 per foot per night is great. Unfortunately there is no weekly or monthly rate. Staying for a couple of week or a month is expensive. Lower rates can be found off base. No a/c in the heads. I'm comparing this marina to the MWR marinas at NS Norfolk and NAS Pax river. Both of which have weekly/monthy rates and heat and a/c in the heads/showers. The staff is excellent.

Great Facility!, 2016-04-12
Captain: , Gulfport Small Craft Harbor, MS (168)

For those that have access to military facilities. Great staff. Very nice docks and showers. Bar/restaurant is nice and very reasonable. Can't beat the slip rates. Lots of nice folks doing the liveaboard thing. Been here twice and plan to return.

Second stay, glad to be back, 2014-07-23
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (980)

If you have the ID to use this facility, then this is a great stop.
Barb is on top of everything, welcoming us back, helping with lines. They have a great community of permanent parties.
The navel community is great.

Nice facility...But, 2014-05-12
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (408)

This is a very nice military facility. The only thing bad that I can say is that they charge transients $1/foot/day. What is sad is that they don't have a weekly or monthly transient rate. You'd think that they would give some sort of break to military personnel if they need to stay longer than a day or two waiting for repairs or weather, or whatever. I know it's cheaper than most local marinas but most local marinas also offer a cheaper rate if you commit to a week or two or even a month, making choices in and around Key West more attractive.

A great, cheap marina in the keys! You must be active or retired military to stay here. 20' deep channel all the way in. Substantial concrete fixed docks. Bar, snack bar, beach, and watersports rentals at the marina. $1 per foot transiet slip fee! It is about a $30 cab ride back to Duval Street though. Barb and Kelly were friendly and helpful at the office. You do need to present current ship's papers (registration, documentation, and insurance) and a current DoD ID card.

A slice of heaven in the Keys, 2014-03-07
Captain: , Port Charlotte, FL (684)

What an awesome facility, and very well run. Barbara was on top of things, probably the best-run MWR marina I have ever seen. She even was kind enough to give us a ride up to the service station to fill some Jerry cans (they sell diesel at the on-base gas station). The other transients and liveaboards made us feel very welcome while we were there too. But if you were military, you would agree that there is nothing like military comraderie on the "outside".
We brought bicycles with us, which made it easy to get into town on our own schedule. There is bus and taxi service if you don't cycle, or you could rent a car. It was about 8.6 miles from the marina to Duval Street. There is an off-road path along Rte 1 that passes right by the main gate and goes into Key West. Once in Key West, get a free tourist map and ffigure out a route using the non-main roads (Duck St, Staples St, South St, then ride along Duval - the traffic is so slow you can keep up with the cars easily).

Excellent marina / off the beaten path, 2014-01-31
Captain: , Annapolis (795)

The things good about this marina are top notch - staff, condition on the facilities, security, easy approach, on site beach, bar and grill, laundry.

The bath house has three showers and it decidedly institutional, dark and dank, but it is very clean. The marina lacks some key items - wifi/internet access, access to transportation (cab ride to Key West is $35 one way, bus stop is two miles away); access to groceries, access to fuel, etc. The small NEX two+ miles away has few items. The on-site bar and grill closes at 9 and has a limited menu.

Great place, but understand the shortcomings when deciding to come here.

2 weeks stay, 2013-12-30
Captain: , Scottsdale (421)

We arrived yesterday and found this to be a wonderful marina full of retired military liveaboards. There were at least 6 people waiting on the dock to grab our lines. Basic amenities that are well maintained and the price of $1/ft. is great. We'll likely rent a car and spend some time traveling up and down the keys over the holidays.
Update: We rented a car from Marthon at half the price of a Key West airport rental. Budget for two weeks for $390, plus returned it to Key West airport with no drop fees.

Great Marina, 2013-04-26
Captain: , Gulfport, MS (321)

One of the best marinas we have stayed at. The staff is very helpful and professional, and the marina is well protected. The current rate is $1.00/ft per night, which makes it the best in the area. Great little restaurant on site, along with plenty of showers and laundry facilities. We ended up staying 3 weeks instead of one, because my wife broke a crown. If you need a dentist, we can highly recommend Dr. Jason Manchester. He pulled out all stops in order to get a crown made in about a week and a half rather than the usual 3.

Great stop over, 2012-05-25

Wow, what a gem in Key West. The marina is nice, well protected, easy to get into and all the staff are fantaastic. Plenty of retired military folks around to lend a hand and a very friendly vibe to the place. Can't beat the cost of dockage. Laundry, showers, beach bar and grill are all very nice and clean. Would get 5 stars from me if there were wifi, fuel docks, and such other non-necessary niceties available. The facilities that are here are top notch. DOD ID Card holders only, not open to general public. This is a definite example of an MWR NAF funded operation that is well run and maintained.

Excellent Marina, 2012-04-05
Captain: , Kemah, TX (622)

This marina is a great place to keep your boat. Military (active and retired) and DOD personnel only however. Very reasonable rates. No Taxpayer Dollars Used to support this marina. It all comes out of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreational Fund, financially supported through the commissary and exchange program by other military members. No fuel at the docks. Great bar/grill at the marina. Need transportation or walk to the gate to pick up the bus which stops at the exit. Eight miles from downtown Key West. Great People here! Hard to get a slip for permanent residence.

Boca Chica, Key West Naval Air Station, 2011-11-15
Captain: , Key West (184)

You must have a valid US military ID to enter Boca Chica Marina. If you do, there are usually transient moorings and/or dockage available. The channel is 1.9nm long and runs on a NE/SW axis. It is deep (12' - 20') but there is less than 2' depth outside the channel. The channel is well marked and wide enough for large recreational vessels to pass and/or overtake. Also, the overhead power line shown on the charts at the SW point of Boca Chica is long gone. Contact Dockmaster at 305-293-2402 or VHF ch-16.

Great physical facility with even better social aspects, 2010-01-30
Captain: , Key West, FL (758)

Though there is no weekly or monthly rental deals, the daily rate is pretty good and the value is clearly there: very nice fixed docks, good electrical system, beautiful surroundings, nice beach bar with daily social events, adjacent beach with kayak rentals, nearby gym, quickmart and gas station. Best of all, a great group of fine retired military folks. We'll be back; and for longer next time. My only serious complaint is that there is no WiFi at all. Use your 3G.

Great military marina if you can get in...., 2010-01-08
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1915)

1/2/2010 You can't beat the price of dockage here but the marina is also very popular and tends to be close to full. Always worth a phone call to see if there is space available. Any long term stay requires a car since facilities are all located off base. Mini-mart on base, post office, great gym and of course the Navigator Grill at the marina.
Washers/dryers also available
