Approach the narrow channel from the ICW at very low speed - it is shallow with 5' at MLW. Remember that sustained winds can push the water out of Florida Bay resulting in even shallower depth.

At the community harbor - take the Intracoastal at G65, take a 140 degree heading to the bay markers for Mangrove Marina.

The channel into the harbor is very narrow with barely enough room for two boats to cross.

Reviews for Mangrove Marina
Shallow, older Marina , 2016-05-27
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (173)

Getting in can be a quite a challenge if you draw more than 4.5'. The seasonal winter liveaboard community makes this place, if they lose them it won't be worth a stop. Older fixed, wood and concrete docks. Todd, the Dockmaster, is very nice. There is a large rock in the fuel basin so don't go in for fuel if you're over 4' draft. Showers and restrooms have a reputation for being dirty and tend to go up and down in cleanliness. Slightly overpriced in comparison to other marinas of comparable quality.

under construction still, 2016-04-15
Captain: , Sheboygan, WI (70)

Pool is under construction still, docks ok, water and power good.
Very nice live aboards welcoming and friendly. Not a good place for dogs, no grass just gravel work yard, expensive docking for what you get.

It could be a great place. , 2016-03-11
Captain: , Illinois (2422)

Things aren't the same here as in the past. They have raised the monthly rates and added $85/month electric fees. Some loyal customers are leaving and have left because of the rate increase. At some point, the fees are more than the benefits.
They need to complete one project before starting a new one.
Some days the restrooms are clean, other days they are not. When Jerry worked there, they were very clean.
Todd is friendly and helpful.
The location to needed things is so nice.

Ran aground IN marina, 2016-03-03
Captain: , Delray Beach FL (20)

My sailboat draws 4.5 feet. when I called there was no discussion of what my draft was.

With winds out of the NW, I wanted to turn the boat so I was bow out to facilitate departure. I ran ground IN THE TURNING BASIN by the fuel dock.

staff new there was a coral head there. but no one warned the incoming sailboat.

Still no pool, 2016-02-28
Captain: , Northfield (39)

The staff continue to insist the pool area and bar area will be done in two weeks, however, we have been following progress for over two months and it has been in the same messy, unfinished condition and since we have been docked here no one has been seen working on finishing project. Have to add on a positive note, The bathrooms and showers are clean, staff is friendly and the views are unbeatable !

Quiet place for stopover, 2016-01-22
Captain: , Key Biscayne (10)

Todd was very nice and helpful on the phone, most places were full so we were happy to have a place. We draw 3' 9" and had no trouble at mid-tide coming in from north, take left after navaid 64a. Narrow but very manageable channel into the little harbor, and then huge fairways once inside. The fairways and our slip was huge, new and very quiet, all pedestal services worked fine. There was only about 12kts of wind or so but this location is well-protected. A very quiet night. The nearby Winn-Dixie, CVS, movies, pizza, pub, etc. are wonderful althought the US1 walk is a little noisy. A low-frills but very functional place, we will come back.

expensive and junky, 2015-09-24
Captain: , Montgomery Alabama (1102)

Stayed one night . Got there at 5:05 and they closed at 5:00 pm . Left a message , but no response . A slip renter pointed to a guy and said thats who I needed to see . That guy was on the phone and ignored me . i finally interrupted him and found where i could dock . There was a used femine napkin laying at the front door of the office .

The place was installing a pool , but not working on it . The 1/2 built pool was full of stagnant water . They were also building a tiki bar . With all the construction they still wanted $2.50 a foot .

Next day same problems getting gas and ice . Its a good stopover for us , but next time , I'll just anchor .

In general , the staff had a 'don't care attitude'

When in the Keys - Lay back, 2015-05-19
Captain: , Miami (110)

We made Mangrove Marina our new permanent port this weekend.
We have a 40 Mainship with 3'8" draft and at low tide it was VERY tight.
There is about a 1" tide so I would guess it's around 4'5" to 5" at high tide.
Todd is very helpful and professional.
Jeff is also a very friendly person with great advice as to local knowledge and leads about boat maintenance, local stores, etc.
The location is VERY nice and I think the best in Key Largo - Tavernier.

Given Wrong Directions, 2015-03-15
Captain: , Peterborough ON (62)

We never got to this marina...phoned to ask for navigation directions and were told to go to Marker 62, steer 140 degrees and enter the channel. We did, and went aground. Turns out we were told the wrong marker. Guess I should have looked it up on Active Captain instead of relying on marina staff.

Draft restricts access and limits to 3 stars, 2015-02-19
Captain: , currently Plantation Yacht Harbor, Islamorada, Fla. Keys (4286)

We inquired of several long term residents about access for our 55'er w/ 5' draft and were told "no way." Although it looked to us that several boats on A dock were comparable to ours, we were told that either they had trouble getting in, or were limited to times when long duration NE wind and very high tides combined to give enough depth. All asked suggested we opt for Plantation Yacht Harbor to the south. Otherwise, docks looked fine, access to good grocery and drug store was walkable, and residents were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Too bad for us that we wouldn't fit.

Great stop on way to Key West, Good people, Good value, clean., 2015-02-07
Captain: , Montreal Qc., Canada (100)

We draw almost 4 feet an had no trouble comming in, followed below recomendation by Captain Dave Forsman ( thk u ) to come in between red markers R64a and R66. Would not want to draw more than 4 max 4-1/2 feet.
Good Price at 2.50 per foot for the Keys, great price if you stay a week as we did waitng for weather. We are 50 foot and we paid 430.00 for the full week tax, 50 amp electric incl. ( $8.00/foot plus tax)
We called by phone in advance and were told to take an empty "end" dock. When we came in the harbor we called again and were directed by phone where to go. This is a laid back multi operational marina , and remember you are in the keys now, so things run a little different.
Resident liveabord , Jimmy, helped us tie up , guided us in securing our lines and warmly welcomed us.

We went Bow in with solid clean new concrete and wood fingers, that are 30 feet long ( I measured them) , and you have wood pilings at 30 feet out and again at about 45 feet out so its easy to tie up n secure your stern between pilings, and on the main concrete docks ther are solid cleats.
We have a pilot house so we easily got off the front, mid ship. This allowed us to enjoy the view of the lagoon with the mooring field behind us, and use our dingy which is stern mounted.

After the train noise in Fort Pierce, the constructon in Rivera beach and the excitement and action of downtown Fort Lauderdale the peacefulness and quiet evenings have been so so welcomed.

Regarding the mooring/anchoring field behind us BEWARE. The wind came up to 25- 30 mph and an old 44 foot Gulfstar Trawler that had anchored during the day draged her two anchors and eneded up pinned to the back of our boat !!
We felt /heard a bump around 10:30 while sleeping and as I was getting dressed to go see if I had to tighten my piling lines a loud series of knocks on my pilot house door. A resident livabord , Mark , had gone out side to check the blowing wind and saw the trawler pinned up on our stern, ran over to advise us ,and without a moments hesitation scrambled aft to push the trawler off our boat, I caught up to him and together we managed to push her off as the owner of the trawler, solo , tried to adjust his fouled anchor lines. For the next hour and a half without regard for himself Mark kayaked over to the trawler that finally caught bottom helped the solo skiper retrieve his now 3 anchors and aid him out into the anchorage and get tie him up to an empty mooring ball. In the howling wind and black night. The wind never laid down ,the anchorage here is difficult to get a solid hold. So inform your self re anchoring, our story had no injuries or damage worth mentioning BUT it coud have been much worse .

I just wanted to show what type of neighbors you get when you come here...the best.

I echo the location as the movies, winn dixie, and other stores are an easy , safe 15 min walk south of here.

We paid the weekly rate, and plan on leaving after only 6 days BUT that comes to 1.43/ foot which is a GREAT deal in the Keys, had we stayed the 7 nights it would have worked out to 1.23 per foot.

Thank you to the staff Nhyla , Jeff, and Todd who are doing their best to bring this Marina up to a 5 star

Mangrove Marina is worth the visit, 2015-02-07
Captain: , Charotee Harbor, Fl (10)

The marina has only fixed concrete docks, no floating, but the tide range is only about 1 foot. The fairways are wide allowing for proper maneuvering. The shower/rest rooms are air conditioned with ceiling fans and floor fans and are well cared for. There is a kitchen trailer that serves the large beach style seating area. Roger turns out fabulous food at reasonable prices. The Eggs Bennedict were perfect. Todd mans the office and is, as are all the staff, actively interested in making your stay a positive experience. They take a professional as well as a personal interest in solving problems and accomodating needs. Slip rates are at the high end but it is worth it. It is truly about 1/3 mile walk to the Tavernier Towne shopping center with a Wynn Dixie, movie theater, CVs, and restaurants.

OK one night stop, 2015-02-02
Captain: , Holland (270)

we stayed here one night. the price was high considering what we got , a short concrete dock that we had to stern in to get off of the boat. the restrooms and laundry are nice and clean. there is fuel. I got diesel. for a one night stay a better option might be to stay in the large anchorage in front of the marina. the premium price did not fit the sub premium marina.

Enjoyable stay at Boatman's, 2015-01-14
Captain: , Erie, PA (577)

We came in here for a night or two and decided to stay a week. The weekly rate was $8/ft. The general drill seems to be to just come in and pick an empty slip then find the manager as there isn't somebody always in the office to answer the phone. The staff is pleasant and they are making improvements to attract more transients. They recently added a large firepit.

Shopping center with a cinema, Winn-Dixie, Chinese etc. within a 15 minute walk down Route 1. New sidewalks so you don't have to walk on the berm of the road.

Coming off the ICW we turned south just after R64 and soon after we left the channel we were in 4-1/2 feet of water. It got a little deeper after a few hundred feet. We found a little more water when we left (6 feet) by re-entering the ICW at St M 1150 on the chart (half way between R64a and R66.

Waiting on bad weather to pass, 2014-10-23
Captain: , Southport, NC (706)

We didnt have any trouble with shallow water. We draw 3.5 ft. The staff answered our phone call and met us at the dock. In fact 2 other nice livaboards also helped us dock because the wind was blowing in front of the rain. Its a short walk to shopping, grocery, drug store, etc. Also a movie theater. In the slip pump out is a plus. Laundry machines are clean and airconditioned as well as the bathroom/showers which were clean and updated. The locals have a tiki hut for parties and general fun. The docks are nice enough, no complaints. Wireless internet signal was good. Seems like a well protected marina in a blow. we are staying three days and enjoyed our visit so far.

Boatman's Mangrove Marina, 2014-06-26
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (80)

Stop if you have to. It is quiet and well protected. It is shallow, we kicked up mud. No docking assistance. Bathrooms had ants. No cable and no reception. It's a one nighter.

Keys-ey Marina, 2014-05-20
Captain: , Punta Gorda. FL (360)

Lay back. You're in the Keys here. This ain't Miami. Entry depths were fine, the marina docks are good as are the bath and laundry facilities. See if you can get a slip with a long finger. It's about 4 blocks to a good shopping center. The marina is not geared to pamper you but staff were good. We liked the locals and the liveaboards here. Go to the bar for happy hour, relax and get on island time.

Great Liveaboard, 2014-04-25
Captain: , Cornwall On Hudson (10)

Have been there over a year and it's perfect for us. You can get to everything w/short bicycle ride. Grocery, Hospital, Movie Theater, restaurants etc.. The staff is friendly and have had a haul out and service done on my boat.

Kind of pricey for what you get, 2014-03-03
Captain: , Johns Creek, GA (228)

Dinghy'd in to check it out. About half the slips were empty. Very skinny water as mentioned. Tenants were friendly but didn't get a good vibe in general. Management seemed indifferent. Could use a little more bang for my buck. Decided to look elsewhere.

we stay thanksgiving day in 20knt wind. there were no issues. nice clean showers and other facilities.

Great Staff!, 2013-04-01
Captain: , Fort Erie Ontario (10)

We visited for a little over a month this year. The Staff (with honorable mentions to Todd & Jeff) are very helpful & friendly. The facilities are well-maintained & very clean. The 'Keys Atmosphere' is felt here & enjoyed. It starts with the Staff & is reflected & appreciated by the many boaters who come back year after year. Great place... hope to be back ourselves next year.

awesome staff, 2013-02-14
Captain: , Brookings (308)

We have been coming to Mangrove for several years. Todd, the manager is the best & his staff is always so helpful.

Not For Deep Draft Vessels, 2013-01-18
Captain: , Little River, SC (1967)

We stayed here one night. I draw 3.5 ft and kicked up mud all the way in to the dock. Staff not too friendly and took over 15 minutes to answer the phone (they do not monitor VHF). Rest of the stay was OK. I would be very hesitant to use this marina with more than 4ft draft.

nice enough by shallow, 2013-01-01
Captain: , Ft. Pierce Fl. (20)

stayed for two nights. we draw 3'6" and got in at low tide by the skin of our teeth. Rented a car right across the street to drive down to Key West.
Nice staff and locals. Happy hour at sunset at the cabanas at the end of each dock.
Keys atmosphere at its best.
Great ancorage just off the docks and also right outside if you dont think you can get inside.

No VHF contact, 2012-12-02
Captain: , Galena, MD (1826)

You need to call on phone to reach someone, they no longer monitor VHF. No longer offer Boat US discount on dockage but will work with you on price. Not so much a transient dockage facility but more a "snow bird" liveaboard facility. Finger piers are short so you will need to back in if boat is longer than 30 ft.
Dockmaster and others will help you dock and are very accomodating. Good shopping center within walking distance.
Need to call and check on fuel prices.

Peaceful and quiet refuge, 2012-06-27

Very friendly place, well protected harbor, 2012-04-16
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (6422)

We came for one night, stayed four to keep out of the wind. Very friendly marina, extra clean restrooms/showers. Liveaboards invited us to their nightly happy hour and their cheeseburger night. Marina close to Winn-Dixie, CVS, Thrifty Car Rentals, numerous restaurants. If marina had a few amenities, i.e. pool, would have given them 5 stars.

An excellent place to stay., 2011-01-15
Captain: , Jacksonville, Fl (525)

There are both permenent live abords and Snow birds. Transients are made to feel welcome. If you need help with anything just ask and someone on the dock can probably help you.
If you are suffering from gardening withdrawal, then check out the garden at the tiki hut on the 100/A dock.
The showers, rest rooms, and laundry areas are very neat and clean. HOT water is plentiful, be careful.

Mangrove Marina, 2008-08-03

Nice quiet Marina close to Tavernier Town Center. Grocery store, shops, restaurants and Movie theatre all within a .3 mi easy walk. Toilets/Showers clean and Laundry clean. Gave Boat/US discount.

Nice place, 2008-03-04
Captain: , Miami, fl (3544)

Been a while since i've been there (2 or 3 years). I tried to stop during a delivery but the approach was too shallow due to winds pushing water of of Florida Bay. Friendly place, good service. It's a working marina (lift, storage) but the docks are nice.

WinnDixie and drugstore within walking distance.
