Reviews for Boathouse Marina
Boathouse Marina, 2017-08-09
Captain: , Beaufort, SC (40)

Came to Palatka to visit my sister Linda. She recommended we stay there. Slept at Hampton Inn just two blocks down. Don in a houseboat helped us notify owners. Very nice people. Will be back for sure.

helpful dockmaster, wifi and att available, 2017-07-28
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

attentive and answered the phone, still $1 afoot.
trying to add floating docks
Old, wooden docks, close to downtown
but they have fixed up the place a bit. Got rid of the junker boats. They are inexspensive and trying to make the place nicer.
good food at the two keys bar and grill, walkable.

Older docks, wakes and bad if winds are east or south, 2017-05-05
Captain: , Frostproof Fl (260)

We stopped only because it was hot and we needed power for our A/C. It was 15 mph winds out of the east and it was very bouncy. We left early the next morning instead of staying 2 nights. There were several places to ear within walking distance. We ate at Hawg Wash Barbecue. Food was above average.

Good stop entoute to Jacksonville, 2017-03-23
Captain: , Sanford, Fl (218)

Stopped here on 3/12/17 enroute to Jacksonville. Easy to find and helpful liveaboard met us at the dock. We were tied up at the end on open water and it got a little bumpy. Otherwise it was fine. Restrooms and shower are adequate and there are washers and dryers.

Convenient location, friendly people, 2017-01-08
Captain: , Port Aransas, TX (1343)

Stayed 4 nights over New Year's and enjoyed the fireworks show directly behind our boat in front of the bridge (not too close). We were told owner is recovering from surgery so liveaboard David helped us tie up and pay. Easy walk to downtown waterfront, shops and restaurants and nearby historic homes. Worthwhile to walk or bike 1 mile to Ravine Gardens State Park. 1 washer/dryer worked fine but no way to adjust dryer temp (missing knob).

No response to reservation, 2017-01-03
Captain: , white springs fl (40)

attempted visit on 12/26/2016
made reservation on 12/23/2016 for my 32 ft nordic Tug, was advised to call marina an hour before arrival so someone could meet us, did so no answer left message.
Arrived at marina, called three more times no answer and no one to assist.
Ended up docking at munincipal dock.
My wife had also called and left a second number, todate neither one of us has received a return call.

Loved our stay, 2016-11-15
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (10)

Reservation made and confirmed by phone with Marlene. No one at the office full time but she and Skip came by on Sunday to check us in. Don in the houseboat next to us helped us dock. Our 47' trawler had no problem getting in. Electric service very dependable. The facilities are old and worn but everything works (laundry, showers, pump out) No word of upgrading the docks. We came just 6 weeks after hurricane Matthew. Many other marinas suffered damage but not Boathouse. Rate for us was $50 per night and if we had stayed a week it would have only been $150. This included power and water. Rode my bike across the bridge over the river to east Palatka to the grocery store. Not a bad ride...20 minutes each way. The blind mosquitos are everywhere in this part of the river and will cover your boat in a few days. Be sure to wash them off as they will leave a stain if they stay on there. Downtown is a short walk with a diner and a pizza shop nearby. Very quiet

Stayed here on a Sunday. Don and Maryanne in the house boat next to the t dock are very very nice people. Gave us a ride to Home Depot giving us a little history of the town on the way. Took us for ice cream( we treated them for the ride to Home Depot) on Sunday afternoon because that is what they do every Sunday. Also invited us to a local pizza spot. Very good food and cheap. We walked to Angela diner(the oldest diner in Florida )on Monday morning. Facilities at the Marina are fair. One bathroom/shower but very clean. Everyone was nice and helpful.

Older marina but everything you need, 2016-04-15
Captain: , Grand Rivers, Ky (2206)

Skip and Marlene, co-owners, are very helpful and full of local information. Skip shared his photos of the old boathouse and Noah's Ark, a 20th century boat on the property they are in the process of restoring. Plans for the new docks have been made and possibly a Tikki hut. We were located on the T head with no protection from NE wind, a little wave action a couple of nights. We would stay here again.

Fine For The Price, 2015-07-25
Captain: , North Charleston, SC (752)

Yes, it's a bit run down or "rustic" as some would say but it's very inexpensive. Apparently, at least in June 2105, there is no full time staff. We called and someone came from their home. One of the resident boaters took our lines before the dockmaster got there.

Other than that, the dockmaster was friendly and helpful. The facilities have seen better days but again, it's cheap.

The city is in the process of renewal, there are nice waterfront parks and even docks (but without showers and electricity). Angel's Diner is something that should not be missed but stick to the basics, burgers and fries.

Boathouse Marina, 2015-04-22
Captain: , Massapequa,NY (1176)

Looks rundown. Tough to pay for a marina when there are free docks closer to town

Friendly owners, good overnight stay, 2015-04-13
Captain: , Sanford, FL (206)

Spent the night here at the halfway point of the navigable part of the St. Johns both coming and going. Owners were very friendly and navigation in and out is very easy. A nice restaurant is a short hop across the river with it's own floating dock to tie up. Good power and wifi on the end T. Marina hours are limited and fuel is not available but if you need a peaceful and easy overnight stay, this is a great place and better value in the area.

Nice Quiet and very laid back, 2015-01-23
Captain: , Jekyll Island Ga (482)

Nice and quiet. Old Florida at it's best. A good place to stop for a day or a few months. Excellent walking area, a city park boat ramp nearby. Nice town, nice people. Old marina but kept up and safe. Easy in and out. Good WiFi, pet friendly, good people run the marina.

Great Marina on the St. Johns River, 2014-07-04
Captain: , charleston,sc (10)

We stopped here for a week to get a few repairs done and have enjoyed our stay. Had a electrical problem at our slip and skip repaired it on the spot. We were here on the 4th of July and the marina had a great cook out and fireworks later. Will stop again on our way back.

Good stop on St Johns, 2014-04-22
Captain: , Newport (131)

Stopped twice. Once going south and then again going north. Very friendly and helpful owners. On face dock first night and in slip second when wind was strong. Good power and wifi, dated but clean heads, close to downtown. DON'T miss the state park for a great hike around a deep ravine.

what makes a 4 vs 3. , 2014-01-14

Older fixed docks..face dock is fine ...not sure about slips
Power is ok..wifi works....owners helpful close to town....
Did not use facilities so no comment..great overnight stop

Southern Hospitality, 2013-06-18
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (507)

Boathouse Marina is certainly a no frills marina but what it lacks in amenities is more than made up for by the firendliness and can-do attitude of the owners. On a several occasions, Skip went out of his way to be helpful. He is a walking encyclopedia of the area. The marina itself is bare bones. The docks are fixed but with only a foot or so of tide, stepping on and off the boat was no problem. The heads are old but clean and the single washer and drier worked just fine. The town of Palatka is struggling but trying for a comeback. The business owners were all exceptionally friendly. If for no other reason, Angel's Diner, the oldest diner in Florida, makes a stop in Palatka worthwhile.

good luck in owner, 2013-05-11

Good docks, calm area, very helpful owner. Intertesting town.
Food store to far to walk. One restaurant nearby.
Plans to add a fuel dock soon.

Fine but nothing fancy, 2013-05-07
Captain: , Silverthorne, CO (419)

Marlene was very friendly and helpful. We pulled into the T-dock, easy in and out. Basic marina with plans for improvements. Wi-fi was iffy from T-head. BBQ grill available on premises. Short walk to town. We caught a fishing tournament, and a "cruise-in" car show with Elvis impersonator. Alot of empty buildings, but the town is trying hard. Oldest diner in Florida, Angel's, was a trip. Free tour of Bronson-Mulholland historical home on certain days was worth it. It was a mile walk to Ravine Gardens, and various hiking loops there. Nice, even if we were too late for the azaleas to be in bloom. Worst feature was the midges at the marina. Check if they're around.

Mediocre marina but adequate, loved the city, 2013-04-03
Captain: , Athens, AL (641)

This is a no frills marina but we don't need fancy. T-head is easy in/out. Restroom/shower/laundry is OK. Loved the city. Don't miss Viva Italiana Pizzeria 3 blocks away. Stopped here going south and on return trip.

Not Bad if you need to spend the night. , 2013-01-05
Captain: , Charlestown (946)

Helpful staff - 5 stars
Facilities clean but
need work 2 Stars
Docks fixed. 4 stars
Shopping for groceries 4 miles and town is slim pickings. Angels diner is worth the experience 1 star
General environment 3 stars
Skip is a great and helpful guy. He knows the place needs work and is trying to get things done. My average rating comes in at 3 stars.

Friendly trustworthy marina, 2012-11-28
Captain: , charleston (771)

A barebones marina but nice anyway. Bathrooms are clean but very spartan. Downtown is just minutes away. We were there for Palatka's Christmas parade. Neat time to be there. Very festive town. Don't miss it.

Not a Resort - Still a Nice Place to Stay, 2012-05-30
Captain: , Cleveland (2083)

The folks here (Skip and Marlene) were wonderful - they make the place. Docks are fine, restrooms are spartan but clean. The local liveaboards were very friendly as well. Plans to continue upgrading the marina are underway.

Dowtown is about 1/2 mile but this is mostly shops. No grocery store (small convenience store is there) but a Dollar General about 1 mile. We happened to be there during the annual Bluecrab Festival which is held right on the riverfront - just a couple of blocks from the marina. Angels diner was great as was the restaurant in the Quality Inn (best breakfast and wonderful river view. Prices were very reasonable as well.).

Ravine Gardens State Park is easily biked to and was worth the trip. Best time of visit is Jan - April when most of the flowers are in bloom.

They're Trying...., 2012-03-27
Captain: , Louisville (301)

Scott, the owner, is working hard to make this a nice stop on a St. John's cruise. Docks are in good repair and slip side pump out has been installed. As stated previously, too far to walk to restaurants. Price was $1 per foot.

Very Friendly, 2012-01-17
Captain: , St Johns, FL (160)

We stayed there two nights on our way upriver. Owned and managed by very nice folks, very friendly. Call their land-line, they will call you back and give you a cell #. They only monitor 16 if they are on-site. Walking distance to historic homes.

O K Stop for the night, 2011-10-22
Captain: , Cincinnati (1810)

The facility is older and dated but the owner is friendly and helpful. The town is all but dead with mostly empty store fronts. It was fine for a one night stop. Everything to do or visit is not within walking distance.

a good stopover, 2011-10-21
Captain: , N Fort Myers, Florida (516)

Very rustic facilities, has water, electric, bathrooms (1 each) friendly staff and neibors.

Spartan but adequate, 2011-05-09
Captain: , Nashville (260)

Sturdy docks, fair price. Primitive but very clean restrooms and shower. Pleasant and helpful owner/dockmaster. Secure, gated.
Not much downtown -- some historic architecture, much abandoned space, as w/ many such small towns in this economy. Cafe closed by afternoon, few choices. Note that 50amp power advertised elsewhere committed to long term local houseboats, unavailable to transients. Strong currents, wind exposure.

Good stop on St. Johns, 2011-03-19
Captain: , Marathon, FL (458)

The new owners are gradually refurbishing the marina. The price has increased to $1.00/ft but the owners are responsive to slip holders. Gated with access code for security. New pumpout at all the docks included in price. Electric is $5 a night for 30 amp. We were here during a BASS Elite fishing tournament. Lots of excitement.

Exactly As Advertised, 2010-07-17
Captain: , San Mateo, Florida (22)

Working man's marina in a sleepy town. The main attraction here is boating access to the relatively unused and scenic St. Johns River. Note that their website has been updated recently. Basic information is available there.

Owners are accommodating., 2010-05-04
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Marina is adequate and inexpensive (w/fixed docks). We stayed on the face dock during a hugh storm and weathered fine. Town is dead (no retail) but has some architectual interest.

Trying harder, 2010-03-09
Captain: , Newville (488)

New owners took over in last few years. Docks are freshly painted. Dock is gated for security. Whole place appears to be undergoing a clean up & renovation. Showers are clean, but in a building that obviously is undergoing change. Pricing is fair; people are friendly & attentative

Adequate, but no more, 2010-01-28
Captain: , Buffalo (1154)

Good fixed docks, but the buildings are a dump. The whole town has fallen on hard times, and the marina reflects this.

Boathouse marine, 2007-05-20
Captain: , Charleston, SC (14)

We stayed here several days. Enjoyed walking down town area, shops, restaurants, Bars. etc. Marina put us on fixed dock. Water is pretty still here. No big traffic so no big waves. Mostly small fast outboards. Quaint with some live aboard people.

Beautiful St Johns River, 2007-02-25
Captain: , Orangedale (7)

This Marina changed hands last year and the new owners are gradually refurbishing the entire place. It is small and friendly, ideally situated to enjoy the upper stretches of the pristine St Johns river. If you want glitz and high slip charges, don't stop here. Boathouse Marina is great value and ideally located in the Historic district of Palatka, within an easy walk of downtown shops, reataurants, bars and general "happenings".
