Reviews for Bluewater Yachting Center
Aqua Bob Cat, 2017-08-03
Captain: , Charleston SC (450)

Dave the GM was great, picked up the phone in the middle of the night as we were coming in and talked us onto the dock. First class service. Also they have a free water taxi that will take you to Hampton downtown area where a NASA museum is located.

A new favorite!, 2017-06-18
Captain: , Rocketts Landing, VA (20)

This was our second 2 night visit of the season to this marina - and a second great experience. People, service, and facilities can't be beat! Could use some rental bikes since there are limited stores in walking distance, but otherwise wouldn't change a thing. I am sure we will make it back at least one more time before winter comes in. Many thanks for your quality and consistency!

Great customer service, 2017-03-09
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (1342)

UPDATE: March 2017

On another delivery this time entering the Chesapeake we limped in under tow after a cascade of failures. The team at Bluewater Yachting Center were great. The details are complicated but we were cold--really cold--on a boat with little to no maneuverability of its own. Advance phone calls and coordination when the tow picked us up had Bluewater ready for us and boy were they ready. There were at least four people on the dock waiting for us. Everyone was very solicitous. I usually tie up myself but under the circumstances I was grateful for the help.

The warm shower, the nice meal at Surf Rider, and the response to every request with either "yes" or "let's see what we can do" where a great relief.

All of my inbound and outbound deliveries will include a stop at Bluewater Yachting Center. We have to press up fuel and water - why not do it somewhere that so greatly values our presence?

Tell 'em I sent you.

We were here in January 2017 waiting for a weather window to head offshore. Service was exemplary. Cheerful staff run hundreds of feet of hose to let us fill water, took care of fuel needs, and were generally helpful in every possible way. The onsite restaurant is very pleasant although the menu is heavily tilted to fried foods.

I used to head offshore from Little Creek but with the decline in the Vinings marinas there Bluewater Sailing Center is an easy choice.

Well Protected, Full Service, 2016-12-31
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (283)

Nice marina, helpful staff, swimming pool and a nice restuarant. Easily tied up at fuel dock at 0500 and moved to face dock about noon. Enterprise Rentals close by and will come and get you. Reasonably priced dockage, well protected from the tumult that the bay can be. Quiet and pleasant back here the morning we left while out on the bay it was a washing machine with an 18 kt NE breeze.

Great facilities, good food and good diesel prices, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Hampton, VA (150)

Bluewater marina has top notch facilities and some beautiful Vikings for your viewing pleasure. The fuel prices are always good and the fuel is fresh thanks to the good number of large sport fish that run out of there. The restaurant has some good eats as well. We head over occasionally and grab a slip for a couple hours just so we can grab a bite at Surf Rider. If you are heading into downtown Hampton they have a water taxi that will take you there most times.

Water Shuttle, 2016-06-08
Captain: , Hampton (20)

My Wife and I, and 2 other couples stayed at Bluewater Hampton the weekend of Blackbeard's Festival and just wanted to thank the manager and staff for making this our best stay yet. The fact that we keep coming back speaks volumns for the beauty and cleanliness we have always found at Bluewater. This year we are adding a friendly, knowledgeable, caring staff to Bluewater's attributes. We thank you for the "Taxi" ride over to enjoy the Festival, but really thank you for the return "LIMO" ride in that beautiful 41 ft Regulator. We will see you in July.

Pretty close to E River, 2016-04-28
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

Easy in & out, first marina inside brakwall, nice floating docks, power works well 10-12 feet of water at fuel dock. Good restaurant on property.

Outstanding Service!, 2016-02-08
Captain: , Westport CT (484)

Called Bluewater while heading south down the bay with a leaky water heater on 12/22/15...they made all the arrangements to order and fix before we even arrived. 9am on 12/23/15 two service guys we at the boat in the pouring 10:30am the water heater was installed and we were ready to keep heading south! Great marina and service....the food was great too.

Quick & competent repairs, wonderful facility, 2015-11-08
Captain: , Mayo, MD (20)

We stayed here for a couple days with the SaltyDawgRally. We needed a couple repairs right away so we could make our weather window. (Our freezer died and a hatch hinge needed welding.) The boatyard crews were very accomodating.

Additionally, the entire marina is well run, clean, and staffed with knowledgable and pleasant people. Great stay.

Nice Marina, 2015-10-13
Captain: , Cape May, NJ (130)

Beautiful marina. Very clean, showers clean and spacious., good laundry facilities. Bluewater Grille restaurant is on site with good food and service. Staff is friendly The dock hands need a little more experience but very willing to help out. Food Lion is a mile walk with no sidewalks. Marina is easy to get to from the river and can accomodate large boats.

Fuel Prices, 2015-08-21
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (400)

Bluewater Yachting Center and their fuel prices not showing on Active Captain fuel finders page on the website. I wish it had been as this past Sunday, I went to Sunset Boating Center just down the creek from BYC and paid $0.21 per gal more for diesel than BYC was showing at the dock! Very disappointing!! I wish I had stopped at BYC.

Excellent service, 2015-07-27
Captain: , Annapolis (10)

My hydraulic swim platform failed in the down position while I was anchored a bit upriver from Bluewater. It appeared I had a leak on the outside of the boat, but needed a haulout to determine the exact issue. We were on a cruise from the middle bay and had no idea who to contact, so we turned to Active Captain. Based on the location and range of facilities, we decided to try Bluewater. We limped into the Bluewater fuel dock, and they took it from there. 5 hours later, we were back up and running again. The entire Bluewater team was pleasant and helpful. We were lucky a travel lift was available, but the team worked fast to diagnose the problem, have a new hydraulic line fabricated, install it, and test it prior to launching us again. I would highly recommend their service department to cruisers and locals. Thanks Bluewater!

Very Nice Marina, 2015-07-17
Captain: , Smithfield, VA (20)

We have stayed here many times. The staff is very helpful and the facilities are excellent

An excellent marina, away from busy Norfolk harbor and easy approach, 2015-04-01
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (666)

25 March 2015
A bit of good news. A Food Lion recently opened just up the road from the marina. About a mile away. New store, pretty well stocked. Also in the same complex you will find a Virginia ABC store also new and you will appreciate the prices.

The staff is attentive, the showers and rest rooms first rate -- large, clean, well appointed.

Addendum: we ended up staying a week. Surf Rider restaurant located on the property is good. Best calimari! Always busy.

Top marina in Hampton, Va., 2014-11-18
Captain: , Henderson Harbor, NY (431)

I could not get comfortable at the town dock for a few reasons and on the way out, I called Blue Waters and with no reservation, they quickly took me in (early November and probably not that busy),

Very nice docks, helpful staff, clean restrooms and a very nice resturant/bar connected to the marina

I would go back to Blue Waters and spend a few day, in fact, I will!!

good haul out facilty, 2014-11-10
Captain: , newport beach (128)

in the right tide to your own boat draft they will be able to haul you out and attend your needs,

i have asked them to haul out a 50 ft 5.5 ft draft for me in order to change props and it was done flawlessly in between high tide times.

they seem to have what it takes to attend most common repairs.

Good t-head docks, 2014-10-31
Captain: , Oriental, NC (110)

We stayed here for an overnight rather than go onto Portsmouth. Great marina with t-head docks to stay on for transients. Easy on, easy off. Same thing for the fuel dock. Very long fuel dock. A northerly wind will blow you on the fuel dock.
Good fish tacos in a comfortably casual restaurant.
Here at the same time as the Salty Dawg Rally gathering. Saw some really cool, big cruising sailboats preparing for the trip to the Islands.

Nice Marina: Good Fuel Stop, 2014-09-25
Captain: , Hampton, VA (314)

This is a very nice marina with floating docks, clean restrooms, and a nice swimming pool. The fuel dock is long and very easy to access. It has its own lines and staff to greet you. Generally, the fuel prices are cost competitive for the area.

Great restaurant, 2014-07-31
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (165)

Stopped at the transient dock for several hours to grab dinner at the Surfrider Restaurant which is co-located at the marina. Disappointed by the $5 fee to stay moored for 2 hrs, but the restaurant food made up for it. Shoft shelled crabs in early July!

Easy on and off fueling, 2014-07-14
Captain: , Bethlehem, PA (736)

Did not stay at the Marina but did use the fuel dock, which was very easy on and off.

Updated and lovely Marina, 2014-05-26
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Fl (960)

Great floating docks! Friendly and helpful staff. The marina seems "new" in all aspects: docks, bathrooms, laundry, pool/deck. In a lovely neighborhood for walking/biking. Surfrider Restaurant on sight was very good. Highly recommend a stop at Bluewater.

Nice place!, 2014-05-12
Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (490)

We stopped here 5/9-10 to visit friends and found a very nice facility. Friendly professional staff, nice location, and a good restaurant-we'll be back!
Anne & Peter on Keeper

NO WIFI. Otherwise nice., 2014-05-03
Captain: , Hollywood, MD (142)

This is the only marina I have been to in last few years without WIFI. A pay provider, Beacon, is available but signal is unreliable. Owner refuses to install WIFI despite complaints. Otherwise a very nice marina.

Very nice facility in all ways! Sailboat friendly., 2014-03-31
Captain: , Hampton, VA (310)

This is a VERY nice facility. Immaculate, new looking and well kept. Great friendly staff.

One of the nicest bathroon/shower setups I've seen. they keep it warm in winter and cool in summer. Lots of hot water. There's also a coin laundry.

The restaurant is good and busy. Not gourmet or fancy, but good and well prepared. the bar is well stocked, but NO draft beer. (???)

We dock our 36' Hunter here and are very pleased with all aspects of the place.

P.S. Stay away from Francis. I'm not sure what her title is but she thinks she's Really Important. What she really is is Loud and Mean and Unfriendly. She also lied to us... I dropped them a star because of her.

However all the worker bees here are TOP CLASS.

Nice place for an overnight or longer, 2013-11-03
Captain: , Westport NY (36)

Greeted nicely on the radio. Found the fuel dock with little problems.
2 dock hands plenty of dock length.
Met by dock hand at slip. Long dock lines are easier for tying to pilings.
Clean bathrooms, resturant good right on site.

Really nice docks and facilities, 2013-10-21
Captain: , Southport, NC (523)

The docks are floating and are very well maintained. The pool and bath rooms/showers are very good and also well maintained. Longer term rates are higher than others in the area. There is also a good restaurant on site. They provide free shuttle into town which is about a 2 mile walk. There is a Food Lion within walking distance.

Best Dock Hands, 2013-09-17
Captain: , Stafford, VA (305)

We pulled in here for the night on our way up the ditch from Florida to the Potomac River. Dock hands swarmed over our boat, and I didn't once touch the pumpout hose.

Very helpful fuel dock crew, 2013-09-09
Captain: , San Francisco, CA (312)

We stopped in here just to fuel up our sailboat. We only needed 40 gallons but the fuel dock crew was as friendly and helpful as if we were a big money customer. The dock is in excellent condition, they have low speed as well as high speed diesel pump, and it is easy access.

An OK Marina, 2013-06-20
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach (251)

This was our first stop at this marina. The dock hands were there to help us dock. The restrooms were clean and the restaurant on the property was a good lunch stop. Nice pool. Negatives were short finger piers, no pump-out at diesel fuel dock and we were docked a long way from the facilities.

upscale marina, 2013-06-07
Captain: , St. Thomas USVI (336)

spent 3 years here and was very pleased. $15/ft mo $10/ft 6mo and not seen very often a 12 mo rate of $7.50/ft great returant and a boat shuttle to down town first class repair facility and hull out.

A bit isolated, 2013-01-01
Captain: , New Orleans, LA (671)

While their web site advertises "Complementary local Water Taxi" (sic) it was not up and running at any time during our visit last July. Marina staff suggested that the neighborhood was not safe and that we should not try and ride our bikes into town. There was no courtesy car as an alternate. Docking directions on VHF were ambiguous, and we had to move to another slip.

The bathrooms were clean, and the marina is well maintained. The restaurant is popular, so get there early!

A little over-priced for the service, 2012-12-10
Captain: , Bonita Springs, FL (221)

Was holed up here before the start of the SeaDawg rally to the BVI.
Overall it was OK but a little over-priced for the service/attitude

easy access fuel dock, 2012-11-28
Captain: , Hampton, VA (2573)

Came here for diesel before heading offshore. Good dock hands, and multiple fuel hoses along the floating dock. Everyone seems to like to quote fuel prices without tax, and this place isn't an exception. Seems silly. Oh well.

Spoty service, 2012-11-18
Captain: , Oxford, Md (130)

visited 11/15-16 Dock & restraunt were good. The service when we checked in was terrible, dock hand couldn't be bothered to help us dock. Forgot to mention that there was a code needed to get into bathrooms (although he told us where they were. Realisticly there is no wifi here! They have a service called Beacon ($10 a day) there own staff admitted that it was terrible. Need an adapter if you use 30 amp they only have 50 amp. Service in the morning at fuel dock was good (different person).

Bluewater Yachting, 2012-11-16
Captain: , Solomons, MD (464)

Second stay 11-12 thru 11-14-2012, Still a nice place to stay with helpful staff. Showers and heads, very clean. Restaurant wasn't up to the standard of the last visit.

Stayed Saturday night 3-34-2012. Nice wide fairways and easy access. Two dockhands to help. Restaurant was very busy. Dockhands recommended the crab cakes and they are right. Heads and showers far from transcient docks so we did not use. So much going on there that it's confusing finding the right office to check in. Overall a good stop and would go again.

nice facilities, some good dock hands, 2012-11-02
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (780)

the physical facilities were very good. the docks, power supply, restaurant, showers and heads were in top condition and clean. unfortunately, there were some marina staff that were less than helpful and not particularly cordial. the dock hand that greeted us was excellent, but most others were not.

Top rate marina, 2012-10-17
Captain: , Babylon NY (331)

Excellent marina with floating dock and great showers / pool. Very good restaurant on site but not open for breakfast. No shopping within walking distance. Nice people.

Fuel pruchase only, 2012-08-17
Captain: , Stingray Harbour (386)

It was blowing off the dock about 15kts. It sure was great to have a couple of dock hands to help get tied up. Prices for diesel were competitive.

Nothing missing here, 2012-07-02
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (200)

Top notch facility. I love it here. The restaurant is spectacular and not terribly expensive. Nothing within walking distance.

Nice dock hands, 2012-06-19
Captain: , Aventura, Florida (330)

We stayed here for about 7 days. The dock hands we very helpful. The resturant is always busy with decent food. The pool was a little disappointment but had a great stay.

Super Marina, 2012-05-30
Captain: , North Fort Myers, FL. (268)

First class marina and great restaurant. Have stayed many times and loved each time. The people are friendly and the view super.

Fuel Tax in Hampton, 2012-04-30
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

We bought fuel at Bluewater 4/30/12. We were surprised to learn that the city of Hampton recently added a tax on boat fuel (which was not included in the posted price). But, otherwise our experience was good. The fuel dock is easy to dock at and the attendants were professional.

Blue water friends, 2012-03-03
Captain: , Stuart Fl (140)

I,stoped in en route to Fl,In a newely aquired 38 ft Sailboat in bad need ' of cosmetic attetion. Was treated very well by all, from the dock hands who also took me up to a Food Lion FOC to aquire a few items.Heads were very clean,Resturant was Great,Stayed overnight.NO problems looking at my distresed sailboat with scorn.

Any port in a storm, 2011-11-26
Captain: , Portsmouth RI (275)

After calling a few places, this was the only one with space, there was a rally on with many boats waiting for good weather.

The fuel dock and help were excellent and help into the slip was great.

Not great was the uncertainty of getting a 30 amp hookup because they had to check if an adaptor was available. They only have 50amp hookups. They take a deposit of $175 which involved a long walk to return the adaptor to the fuel dock and getting a refund.

The pump out was not working and they did not know when it would be fixed.

No lounge. They had portable extra bathrooms due to the crowd which were clean.

They advertise Internet and then tell you that it is Beacon WiFi which is very expensive and not included. The free Hampton Internet is very weak as is the Beacon WiFi.
Other marinas who have Beacon WiFi gave us a temporary login, they have never heard of this.
Really unacceptable.

Got a takeout from the resturant, service great, but mediocre to poor food.

Not going back

Excellent Place, 2011-11-09
Captain: , No real home port. Cruising. (320)

I have had to leave my boat here twice, each time for several weeks. The staff has been very accommodating. The floating docks are kept clean, the restrooms immaculate. A very popular seafood restaurant is on the premises but otherwise a car is needed to get provisions. I was on a T-head so was subject to waves from passing boats but it is very tolerable.

Nice stop after a long day., 2011-11-06
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (242)

We came down the bay from Rock Hall and stopped here. The dock hands were very helpful at the fuel dock and at the slip. We had a decent meal at the restaurant. Nice floating docks but hard to get off at high tide since the rampswere pushed up away from the dock. Only other ding would be the showers, they appeared to be well maintained but when I used them there was dirt on the floors of the showers.

Very Professional, 2011-06-28
Captain: , Daniel Island, SC (310)

From dockhands to Dockmaster, Admin Assistant, slips, repair and fuel prices, this is a top drawer, professional operation. Minor repairs handled on-site; pet-boarding facility recommendations: done; shuttle into downtown Hampton: on-demand. Only negatives: restaurant and proximity to shopping. It's a full service stop.

Excellent Time, 2011-06-18
Captain: , Norfolk Virginia (471)

In for lunch, $5 to dock and well attended by dock hand. Restaurant is Surf Rider which is local staple and most excellent (crab cake sandwich is the draw and close to best in area). Good access, easy landing, worth the effort.

Fuel Stop Details, 2011-05-30
Captain: , Fishing Bay VA (335)

Only stopped for fuel, but the staff was great and very friendly and its easy access in and out with a high turnover rate on the diesel so it should always be fresh.

July 2010, 2011-04-08
Captain: , Deltaville (106)

Great marina with good services, restruant, pool, good restrooms. Taxi to local grocery store. Onsite engine service if needed (I did). Water taxi to city docks.

a bit boat snobbish, 2011-01-12
Captain: , Utica, Ohio (245)

We limped in using the emergency tiller due to a broken steering cable on my 37' sailboat on our way from NY to SC. Staff was very accomodating helping us tie up on the outside. I was looking to spend a day or two until I could make repairs. Overhearing one side of the conversation between the staff member and his boss, it was clear the boss was concerned that a 37' cruising sailboat was going to detract from the view of mega yachts. it took the dockhand a while to convince the boss, assuring him that the boat "looked great". It really put me off, but I really didn't want to relocate with limited steerage. Aside from that first impression, the place was great. Docks are in great shape, facilities are clean, restaurant is good. Although it seems to be in the heart of things, we found it to be very remote. We typically walk everywhere but couldn't here.

pulled in for gas, 2010-09-29
Captain: , Deltaville Va (531)

pulled in here for gas and water during a 5 day trip the service on the dock was great some of the best we've gotten. And the dock is well taken care of.

Blue water marina, 2010-07-19
Captain: , hampton (70)

Nice place if you have a big boat ,,but I fell like I was second class when I called for my under 40 foot boat ,also heard not sail boat frendly

Its all about money

Great location, great stop, 2010-07-10
Captain: , Patuxent River, MD (391)

Spent an enjoyable two days here. Very friendly staff, floating wood docks. 50Amp service but adaptors are avalable with a $175 deposit(!). Staff ran us to downtown Hampton on their dingy for the Pirate Days. Great food onsite. Clean heads / showers /pool.

Well located facility, 2010-06-22
Captain: , Havre de Grace, MD (299)

Easy access to docks - right on Hampton River. Nice floating docks. Clean bathrooms and showers. Very small pet walking area. Asked about 30A service but was told only 50A was available.

Marina does not have Wi-Fi, but was told you can access and pay for a service. Found Hampton Free WiFi at the docks.

Great place, 2009-08-27
Captain: , Old Saybrook Ct (250)

Got in late the dock master took all my info ahead of time and asigned dock space had a splitter on the power pole and left needed info right there. very easy to get to and dock without help, big slips. Pool was great and also bath/showers. Easy 10 min. walk to town and supplies. Very friendly!!!

One of the Chesapeake's finest marinas, 2009-06-02
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (1332)

Lots of locals from nearby marinas use Bluewater as a destination marina for weekends, and a good one it is.

Clean, modern, well-appointed floating docks with friendly service and excellent facilities all around. Bluewater Yachting Center is well-managed and has a team that really seems to care about providing first-class service. Friendly dock hands who know what to do with a spring line, good quick answers on the radio, and excellent deep water both in the approach and alongside. Larger yachts lie on the T-heads and others up to about 60 feet are in berths. Good parking. Popular on-site seafood restaurant, Surfrider, is one of several in the Tidewater area.

Great!, 2008-08-02
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (103)

Very nice facility, pool, bar, restaurant, etc. Enterprise Rental will pick-you up, 5 minutes away.
