Reviews for Blain's Bay Marina
Very Shallow, 2016-10-12
Captain: , Miami Beach, FL (130)

Stopped in to top off water.. Depth sounder showed 3.5 - 4.0 feet of water and we draw 5.5... but the bottom is pretty soft... Would not recommend for deep draft vessels. The end dock was pretty short for a 35' vessel..

Been boating and docking at Blains Bay since 2008. Jim Nichols (then manager, now owner) has been patient, and gotten us through a lot of bumps. The service and maintainance is expert, The advise is sound, and the dealings are fair. The atmosphere is friendly. I would highly reccomend for transients, or someone looking for a home base.

As mentioned by a previous reviewer, the place is a bit rough around the edges, but the bathrooms and shower were clean. The owner, Jim Nichols, is very friendly and accommodating. We were able to arrange for 3 months storage of our vehicle and trailer. Grocery, restaurants, and hotels a short drive away.

Great place to dock and enjoy boating life, 2014-02-16

Blain's Bay Marina has had it's challenges in the past like many businesses similar to first to be hit by the financial crisis but since Jim took over management 5-6 years ago he has turned the place around. We got our first boat from him after looking at others (one in the same marina FSBO) and was very happy and then upgraded to our newer acquisition. We love being there in the boating season, when I am not travelling it's my floating office location. Eric knows his stuff when it comes to mechanicals and you'll get the real story first time, not add this and add that you may get elsewhere. Nice bunch of people there to socialize with. Jim and the team doing what they can to improve BBM to be the best place to dock at, be it seasonal or for a break before or after the Waterford flight of locks.

Good all around, 2014-02-01

I've been at this marina for three years going into my fourth. Under new ownership by james nichols Blain's Bay Marina is making tons of new improvements and upgrades in the works in all departments staff, creature comforts like picnic area and relaxing deck propane grill, clean restrooms showers for public use as well as new services on the property like fibreglass repair shop on site boat covers and full canvas repair/new top knotch service department fuel, ice, everything in one place. In my opinion its a up and coming family frendly marina that im happy to dock with and look forward to the many new improvements.

JIM NICHOLS DEFINITELY GOES THE EXTRA MILE TO ASSURE YOUR BOATING NEEDS ARE MET. THE MARINA IS IMPROVING SERVICES TO BOATERS. THE ATMOSPHERE IS FAMILY ORIENTED AND FRIENDLY. THE MECHANICAL SERVICE IS TOP NOTCH. WE HAVE BEEN CUSTOMERS AT BLAINS BAY FOR 30 YEARS AND WE RECOMMEND THE MARINA. JIM HAS GONE ABOVE AND BEYOND TO PLEASE THE BOATERS. THE MARINA IS LOCATED NEAR STORES, RESTAURANTS AND HOTELS. IT IS A GREAT PLACE TO KEEP YOUR BOAT AND ALSO FOR TRANSIENTS TO DOCK THEIR BOATS.

Don't use for repairs or buy a boat form them, 2013-05-07
Captain: , Ravena, NY (10)

I am only telling everyone this as my experience so to help you to decide. They will not be available when you are miles away after a repair. Not sure these guys really know about anything other than runabouts and outboards, if that. I noticed I had an oil leak on a cruiser they brokered and under warrranty. They diagnosed as a rear seal and fixed. I was never able to run the boat again that season and they assured me that that the rear seal was the source of the leak and no oil was leaking. Following spring after days of bildge cleaning, they launched and right out told me no leaking oil after they ran it. I get there open the hatch and see an oil slick. He says must have just started and I had to fix. Also find out that they hired out to winterize and the guy noticed(and wrote it on the invoive) that the shaft coupler needed a new key. They never told me(when still under warranty). I find out when I pull it that the key is bad, propably happened when they or the previous owner(Al Hayner) hit something and ruined the prop. There are many marinas that are well known to provide reliable and trouble free service, they show in Active Captains markers

Can't say enough good things about it., 2012-08-17
Captain: , Powder Springs, GA (214)

Not the classiest marina I've visited, but Jim Nichols (owner) and his family couldn't have been more friendly, helpful, and accomodating. Small but nicely stocked marina store, ice, and fuel are reasonably priced. Also has parking for vehicles and trailers. Town is about 2miles away with good restaurants and motels.

The best of a limited choice, 2010-06-14
Captain: , Palm Coast (792)

For boats over 50 ft. the Erie Canal does't offer many choices. This is a struggling family marina that tries hard. They will go out of their way to help you but the physical marina leaves a lot to desire.

Depth at the fuel dock is only 6 to seven feet. The only 50 amp option is to use their adaptor on two 30's and that kept tripping so I had to start the generator. The cable outlet is a single wire that only extends 50 ft. alomg the dock.

Fine for a one night stand.
