Reviews for Black Sound Marina
Great Bahamian Style Marina, 2017-01-31
Captain: , Belleville, Ontario (410)

Very good water depth at low tide at the slips - 15 slips - slips are nice and wide to accommodate wider beam boats. Rates are very reasonable with metered power and water. Water is rain water when available - city water if there hasn't been sufficient rainfall. Dock master Mike is very helpful and attentive. It's a great location to access town with a less than 10-minute walk. One bathroom and one shower shared - very clean! If your looking for a quiet quaint Bahamian style marina this is it.

Excellent Experience!, 2016-04-29
Captain: , San Mateo (10)

Roy went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. Very impressed with our first experience of Green Turtle Cay. Very clean place, chill laid back -quaint facilities.

Nicest folks on GTC, 2016-04-28

OK, seriously, I have no idea what's eating the one star reviewers. Roy, the owner of the the marina is the most accommodating owner I have ever met. He is having some medical problems so maybe that's why there is some confusion. Small marina, not luxurious, but at $1 per foot it can't be beat.

Are you Serious??, 2016-04-19

Understand, I have no skin in this game but... I was on a mooring ball at Donny's and for a week, I listened to people trying to reach this marina. We tried to reach them to inquire about the use of their laundry facilities. No answer to radio or phone. We went over there by dinghy and some guy met us imediately and told us the laundry was for marina guests only. ok. Today, a guy tried reaching them by radio repeatedly. Finally, he contacted Donny who said he would check and see if they had dock space available. Donny also has no skin in this game. He finally told the boater to come in and tie up on the face dock, that there was room for his 50 foot boat. My question is, are these guys in business?? The laundry police were there promptly to send us away, but nobody can answer their radio or phone to respond to boaters who want to dock at their marina. I have no idea how this place rates 4 stars. They must be writing their own reviews.

Good location but lots of drama, 2016-03-15
Captain: , Annapolis (91)

Owner ripped me off $200.Probably one of the most expensive marinas in the area.Dogs barking and pooping in the yard. Most unfriendly group of people I have ever encountered. Read the "Services",he sold his mooring balls to Donnies yet still claims he has some.(Which aren't his and are privately owned and from what I hear is he pockets the money and wont let you use the shower or internet)

location, location, location, 2014-06-15

If you want clean bathrooms & shower, laundry, water and groceries...this is the place! Within walking distance of groceries, bars & restaurants. Electric metered, free wifi. Roy is the man to see!

Good Stopover, 2014-04-11
Captain: , Portsmouth NH (681)

A dollar a foot with nice clean bathroom and shower and a golf cart rental right next door. Slightly tricky dock. Do your own dock lines. The locals are enthusiastic to help but......
Good place to dodge a front and a lovely little community.

Clean quiet marina, 2013-02-17
Captain: , Key Largo,FL. (241)

Docks were in good shape. Grounds and facilities were clean. Only one toilet and one shower. Easy walk into town.

good but aging, 2013-02-12
Captain: , Galesville, MD (246)

Marina suffers somewhat from deferred maintenance, but is clean, safe, and convenient to town. Strongest wifi connection we've seen in the Abacos.

Good Basic Marina, Best Option to Visit Green Turtle, 2012-06-15
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4307)

Black Sound is a well-protected harbor, and Black Sound Marina has sound wooden docks making this spot a great place to base a visit to Green Turtle and New Plymouth. Many restaurants, grocery stores, and bars in a quaint Loyalist settlement full of history. The docks have a roofed area with afternoon breezes providing perfect place to meet people and have a docktail party. Downtown, with many stores, is a short walk away.

Great location, good marina, 2012-04-22
Captain: , Marthas Vineyard (506)

You can walk into New Plymouth in about 10 minutes from this Marina, we went 2-3 times a day. Hung out here waiting for "the whale" to calm down. This is not a resort marina and is a small marina, most boats are here for the season, there were few people around. Carroll Sawyer takes care of everything and is very helpful. There is a shower room and laundry, both aging, but okay; wifi free. There was a daily charge for power, these daily fees always are much much higher than what we pay for metered electric. We would go back here again.

Plain, simple and good, 2011-11-30
Captain: , Nyack, NY (646)

We spent four nights on a mooring here. The place is modest, small and provides basic needs well at a reasonable rate. Good shower with clean well cared for rest room and laundry. Carroll Sawyer, Dockmaster is friendly and helpful. A short walk to the fascinating settlement with its pretty houses and mix of loyalist descendants and renters.

Great time at Black Sound Marina, 2009-03-03
Captain: , Medina, OH (3)

I spent nearly two weeks here and consider it the best part of my Abaco adventure. The experience was pure "island" and the dockmaster (Carroll) was so nice and accomodating.
