Reviews for Billfish Marina and Boatyard
Great marina for getting work done, or for hurricane season, 2010-10-10
Captain: , Honolulu (10)

Billfish Marina is industrial, not recreational. It's a place to take the boat while work is done on it, or perhaps for storage during the hurricane season. It's not set up for recreational use.

Security is good. Personnel are friendly but busy. Barry Brown Marine, which can do many kinds of work, is on the premises. Pipewelders, which builds tuna towers (and therefore can do various kinds of metal work) is also on the premises. There is a convenient parts warehouse you can buy from.

They are next to a nature preserve, so beware of ants/spiders at various times of year. The West side is better than the East side for this.

There is an FP&L outlet running through the premises, so current varies depending on the power plant's outflow. Water is warm and fresh, not salt, in the FP&L outflow.

We were able to find good 50 amp power, but had to try a couple of posts to get it. Potable water is available via hose spigots on the docks. No sewage facilities, but pumping services can come in.

Insured subcontractors can come in to work, though they appreciate it if the local services get a chance to bid on work.

In all important respects, this is a competent "working"marina. My rating reflects that usage, not a recreational usage, for which it is not suitable.
