Reviews for Big Trout Marina
Quaint place to tie up, 2017-04-11
Captain: , Moyock, NC (1044)

Frank and Edna are nice friendly people, who also run a very small restaurant providing local good seafood. Englehard is a fishing village and a farming community without much to see. However the people are nice and it is a safe harbor for crossing northward in the Pamilco Sound. Restrooms were closed this time. We've stayed here 3-4 times on our way to Wanchese/Maneo.

The most friendly people and best food on the sound.

Great Stop, 2014-09-06
Captain: , Brick, NJ (83)

Spent a great night here. As mentioned hug the green markers as it gets a little thin in places. The owner was great and drove us to dinner then picked us up, great service and fair prices (1.00/ft)

Neat little Secret, 2014-08-01
Captain: , Manteo North Carolina (151)

Where else can you cruise pristine waters and pull into a well marked and well protected harbor and find quiet uncrowded dockage at reasonabe prices? How about a dock owner who gives you the keys to a new Ford F150 truck so you can drive to a restaurant on the edge of town--and all on a Saturday night! Great place--sure few amenities, but a nice layover between Manteo and Oriental or Ocracoke.

Good place to stop overnight, nothing else, 2013-06-23
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

I couldn't decide between a two star and a three star. Had to go with a two star because the marked channel (greens only) is a bit dodgy in a couple of places. Docks are solid with good 30 AMP ONLY power. Lots of dock pilings, no cleats. Lots of bird droppings on the dock. Nothing to do here other than relax waiting for the next day. Dockmaster Frank is very friendly. Only charged us $40. Restaurant is closed on the weekends. Did not go into town though Frank did offer to drive us in. Plenty of room to maneuver. Plenty of water once in past the channel. Would we stay here again? Sure. Nothing fancy at all. Think of it as an achorage that has docks, power and costs $40 and your expectations are in the right place. Watching the wildlife on the south side is nice. Kind of pretty in its own way.

Convenient stop on Pamlico Sound, 2012-11-09
Captain: , Galesville, MD (246)

For those taking the Pamlico Sound alternative ICW route, this marina provides inexpensive dockage and electricity (nothing fancy) in a well-protected harbor, halfway betwen Manteo (on Roanoke Island) and Oriental, NC. It is about 40 miles from each.

Very Poor facility, 2012-10-23
Captain: , Oriental, NC (43)

If I never see Big Trout Marina again except in a weather emergency I'll be happy. Not one inch of dock was free of bird droppings. No hot water and very unsatisfactory heads. Way overpriced for the services provided.

Good price, friendly staff, and bathrooms are OK

Friendly, Good lunch, 2010-05-08
Captain: , Ensign Harbor Marina (215)

Staff very friendly, excellent lunch available at marina, walk to grocery store, bank, two hardware stores. Gas station has pay phone. Some slips, long face dock. Entrance well marked, good depths. Cash only. Might have gasoline at docks.
