Reviews for Big Sound Marina
Good location, needs cleaning, 2017-07-26
Captain: , Honolulu (712)

Good location, close to restaurants, float plane facility and channel. Shower facilities were disappointing, hadn't been cleaned in awhile and the moths had hatched and died everywhere. $75 with 30 amp for a 36' boat on July 16,2017. Bayside Bistro just down the road offered excellent food.

Attractive location and good services, 2016-08-20
Captain: , North East, MD (385)

Where else can you watch seaplanes and a cruise ship arrive and leave? Big Sound Marina has a great view of the sound and is convenient to restaurants and banks just up the hill. Grocery stores, however, are 2 miles away uphill, or a $10 taxi ride. We paid $1.85/ft (electric included) in August 2016.

Way too bouncy for us., 2016-07-22
Captain: , warm waters (828)

We cannot recommend this marina from where we sat in a slip facing the open water. We came in from an anchorage to avoid predicted high winds and rough seas. Add fairly constant boat wakes to that and we were bouncing and rolling non-stop, except for late at night. The town is fine. The staff is wonderful. There is plenty to see and do within walking distance. Even so, we were eager to depart.

Another great visit, 2016-07-02
Captain: , Port Franks (176)

This is the best location to dock for Canada Day fireworks. the best view and without all those crowds at the town docks. Good docks and clean facilities.

Great docks with poor bathrooms, 2015-08-01
Captain: , Algonac, MI (1659)

I was going to give this place four stars until I took a shower. The floating docks are well-maintained. The staff hustle and were very pleasant. The wifi is the best we've found in Georgian Bay. There is no temperature control in the shower. You have to press a button every 15 seconds for a lukewarm shower. The sinks in the dimly-lit bathrooms require a push for a one second squirt. Is the goal to save water or to get your hands clean?

What a great Marina, town and people, 2015-07-11
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1804)

Great Marina as long as you are inside the floating breakwater, do not stay outside on the eastern side unless you want to rock and roll.
Beautiful setting, friendly competent staff, good facilities , 10-15 min walk to town , several Restaurants within 5 min. Especially recommend the Bayside Bistro. Needed a dentist, one 5 min away, expensive but good . Downtown 10-15 min walk, several restaurants, movies, liquor store, barber, shops, post office, Bell Telephone office, Autoparts, hardware store, small marine supply store all downtown . Can rent a Enterprize car, arts center/Bobby Hull museum, 5 min walk. Exercise trail 5 min, which is also a great mountain biking trail goes for miles and miles. Across the Bay is Sound Boat works with gas and diesel/ Pumpout, Volvo Service center, haul outs etc, very helpful staff.
Walmart/Canadian Tire/ big grocery 5 miles away

Nice Marina, 2014-07-26
Captain: , Massapequa,NY (1176)

Nice marina with friendly staff. Wifi works great. Close to town & restaurants. Narrow docks and no protection from boat wakes. Expect to rock all day long, but gets better at night.

At the foot of Parry Sound, 2014-07-18
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

Nice floating docks, good help from the dock crew.

Lots of good places to eat in town (Wellington's, The Bayside Bistro). The Sobey's is a long walk. Taxi rides are a flat $10 fee.

Pumpouts are not available. The town dock is a pain to get into, suggest going across to Sound Works Marine, much easier access.

great place to stop, 2014-07-02
Captain: , basking ridge, nj (130)

Friendly staff. No fuel or pump out although both are available nearby. One washer, two dryers, $1.25 each. Great spot to watch the Canada Day fireworks. Town is nearby. Sobeys is a bike ride away.

Nice Marina, but difficult provisioning, 2014-06-30
Captain: , Cape Coral, Fl (838)

The marina is nice, floating docks but very narrow finger piers. Sobey's no longer offers shuttle service so any major provisioning is by taxi or rental car. Bank in walking distance. LCBO in walking distance but Beer Store is a hike if you are carrying beer.

Excellent Marina, 2013-08-01
Captain: , Belleville, Ontario (97)

We enjoyed our stay at this marina. The staff were very friendly and efficient and it is close to town for shopping. A short walk away. Check out the Bobby Orr Museum, just up the street from the Marina.

Stayed during Rendezvous., 2013-07-23
Captain: , Midland (332)

Had a great stay with the Parkbridge Rendezvous. Staff worked very hard to get us all docked and did a great job doing it. Would recommend marina to anyone.

Operated by Chamber of Commerce, 2013-07-10
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (445)

Very nice marina, all transient, within 10 minute walk to town. one washer, nice showers, one gas grill, free shuttle to grocery, on demand. 50 foot fingers on docks, 50 and 30 amp, potable water, fenders about 1 foot up. Found nice restaurant Bistro by the Bay, easy 10 minute walk. bike trails as well.

Not bad for a municipally run marina, 2012-08-10
Captain: , Beaverton (264)

At $1.50/ft (Aug 2012) you get pretty much everything you'd like and expect (dock assistance, friendly office staff, toilets/showers, free Wifi, BBQ's and tables to use, pizza delivery and downtown Parry Sound only a 10min walk). Boat wakes were a bit of an issue during the afternoon, but die down in the morning and at night. Would have no problem returning to this marina next time I'm here.

Very nice stay, 2012-07-29
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

Stopped in for one night...a Saturday night. Very nice marina with great facilities. Great docks. Very wide and accomadating. As said we came in on a Saturday and did not have problems with wakes and we were in one of the outside slips. Very nice stay.
One thing to keep in mind is if you are coming in from deep water in the bay it is a kind of a long trek in so accommadate for it in your cruising time. At 8 knots its a good hour.

Great place, great town, 2012-07-27
Captain: , Cape Coral FL (4187)

Loved our stay here. the minor bad is the boat wakes. Docks are now very wide. Other than that, very good WiFi, extrememely helpful and polite staff. This is a pleasure to hear young people be so polite to adults today ! Very close to town.
Be sure to get sticky buns from the Gourmet Deli & Bakery 1/2 block past the first traffic light you walk to on James Street. Post office is just past on the other side of the street.
A grocery store will send a shuttle van to take you there (other side of town). There is also a Canadian Tire store next to the grocery store. Wife says grocery store has good prices. How about $2.50 for a box of ice cream? YEAH !
Marina has free coffee every morning 8-11am.
We sat out some strong N winds here and its very protected for that. You can watch the sea plane operations from here too.

Lots and lots of wakes, 2012-07-23
Captain: , Mystic (909)

Nice marina, town is close, but the wakes are bad as already mentioned. Worst marina for wakes I have ever stayed at. Aluminum float pontoons are noisy. $1.50 /ft at this date includes 30 amp.

Lots of wake, 2012-07-15
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

Stayed here 2 days in late June 2012. The docks are nice and the town is great. But, the wakes from constant boat traffic are really bad. The marina has two breakwaters (one fixed and one floating) to protect it from Parry Sound. But nothing protects against boat wakes in the large harbor area. It is a shame because the marina and town are otherwise very nice. Staff is inexperienced but makes up for it with enthusiasm. We hiked over to the former forestry tower. Great view from on top. Ate at Wellington Pub, Bay Street, and Orr's deli/meat market. Wellington and Orr were very nice. Bay Street was very ordinary and very expensive for what you got. The local supermarket (Sobeys) will pick you up and take you back if you need to do major provisioning.

Convenient but wakes can be a problem, 2012-06-30
Captain: , Clearwater, FL (150)

Had to leave the boat for a few days of business back in Indiana, so we picked Parry Sound and this marina to do so. Big marina and there was only 5 boats in the slips, but marina said it was still early in the season (June 21st week). Marina is clean with free wifi, have a "pay for 5 nights, stay for 7" deal (worked good for us having to leave the boat) and is only a 5 min. walk to town. Some wake action from passing boats - suspect it might be worse on busy weekends. Enterprise car rental in Parry Sound, so if you have to leave the boat like we did, Parry Sound is about the best option in this part of the world north of the Midland/Port Severn area to do so.

Good location for 2 night stay, 2011-07-14
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Stay inside to avoid wake from sea planes. Museum is 20 min walk up hilll with very good history on lumbering industry. Restaurants are good and close. City water & Wifi. Shop on James to Mary St for many little boutiques.

Great location, 2011-05-18
Captain: , Penetanguishene (22)

Marina location is good and staff are friendly. Can be bouncy and noisy though as floating docks are not well sheltered from on plane boat traffic leaving Parry Sound Harbour.

Good for larger boats, 2010-07-21
Captain: , Palm Coast (792)

Deep marina with wide slips. 30 amp power only. Floating docks are very skinny. Town offers everything but new large supermarket is not within distance. Car rental is available. Mysterious mini tidal waves come from nowhere on random basis and really shake up everything.

Nice place, 2009-07-18
Captain: , fairland (2653)

Skinny little finger docks. Floating breakwater is of little value. Good power, good water. Clean washrooms, showers and a little laundry. Parry Sound has lots of shopping opportunities.
