Reviews for Biddeford Pool Yacht Club
Beautiful Location, 2017-08-29
Captain: , Boston (185)

One of my favorite stopovers when traveling between Boston and Maine. The outer moorings can be a bit rolly and the current is too strong to row in --- so without a motorized dinghy you're limited to yacht tender hours. Note also that they don't always respond to Dockwa requests, so it's best to phone the yacht club to ask about reservations. But even so, it's a beautiful location with great service.

Biddeford Pool shuts down after Labor Day., 2016-10-08
Captain: , Avondale, PA (448)

We stayed here for one night on the weekend after Labor Day. The Yacht Club and launch service were still operating but the town was very quiet. The general store had pretty much emptied their shelves prior to closing for the season the next weekend. The cafe in the store was closed.

The dockmaster responded quickly when we called on the radio and gave us good directions to our mooring as we approached the Pool. It was well to the east in the mooring field and did suffer from a fair amount of motion during the night, but it wasn't uncomfortable. The launch service was prompt when we wanted to go into town and then back to the boat later. The heads and showers in the small clubhouse were adequate.

Great Spot, 2016-09-12
Captain: , Deale, MD (10)

We were returning from a summer in Nova Scotia and needed a place to leave the boat while visiting family in Kennebunk. Wood Island Harbor is easy to enter and leave and the BPYC is very welcoming. We've often used their facility on our passages south and felt very comfortable leaving the boat for the weekend. Easy launch service and there's a nice little general store/restaurant around the corner..

They placed on the mooring furthest out. That was ok, wifi wasn't!!

Keep eyes out for sailing vessel "'Cloud Express", 2016-08-04
Captain: , Robinhood Cove, ME (11)

Nice place, only hiccups were someone was on our mooring when we arrived at 7 pm (beware of Cloud Express" likes to pick up "free" moorings) and only 1 staff on so had to wait quite a while to bet a gallon of gas

Good stopover, 2016-07-31
Captain: , Brookline NH (80)

Arrived late in the day and was directed to our mooring by a very pleasant and knowledgeable person. This is a pretty quiet spot with few wakes and good protection from all but N and NE winds. The WIFI doesn't reach out to the moorings unless you have a mast mounted transceiver. Did not use any of the amenities so can't comment on those.

loved the sand bars and view, 2016-07-21
Captain: , City Island New York (210)

grabed a moring and enjoyed the wonderful sandbars that come and go with tide...great for the dog paddleboarding or just enjoy the view. cute town store and resturant

Easy in easy out, 2015-08-04

Good stop when going down east, or up west! You don't have to travel far off the ocean. Most of the Bidderford Pool Yacht club moorings are outside the "Pool" itself off the channel near Stage island. Call Biddeford Pool Yacht Club (207-282-0485).

Excellent stopover, 2015-06-18
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (231)

BPYC is a small but very cruiser-friendly Marina. Very picturesque setting. Nature sanctuary and limited groceries within walking distance. They maintain several transient moorings outside the pool. Mooring or anchoring inside the pool is not recommended. Too shallow and ferocious currents in the channel. Outside, charts are accurate. Respect green #9 especially as there are rocks and very shallow water close by.

Quiet little village, nice stop, 2014-09-01
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (380)

Nice funky little club with moorings, showers and launch service. Nothing fancy, very small town (store with prepared food counter, post office, not much else). But it's a beautiful spot that splits the distance between Portsmouth and Portland. Nice walks around the island. Watch for fog in the morning when departing.....

very poor attitude, 2013-08-22
Captain: , Portsmouth RI (730)

Unless you have a reservation for a mooring, make sure you anchor well away from the mooring field and any perceived paths leading there.

There are few moorings here so anchoring is very likely. Despite being anchored well outside the harbor (beyond the green can), club launch came out and "ordered" us to move as we were in their "fairway" - no such thing - plenty of boats had gone by us with no problem. But, in the interest of world peace etc. we picked up our anchor and moved to the deeper area south of the channel leading out east. Good depth there and with the wind from the SW was a quiet night.

Very Friendly, Very Rolly, 2013-07-18
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (907)

Previous reviews right on. Very friendly traditional small YC. Launch service included with mooring, good for access to the local store if nothing else.
One caveat: strong tides running into and out of the pool will control the set of your boat, and if winds are contrary, you will have an unsettled night, with lots of wave action and tossing about.
In spite of that, this is a good layover if transiting the area.

Convenient stopover but limited, 2012-07-29
Captain: , Red Brook Harbor, Ma. (216)

This is a very convenient spot comig north or south with some beautiful beaches and scenery to boot but has its challenges. Outside the pool is really your only option unless you get very lucky with one of the few moorings inside. Even outside the pool transient balls are scarce so you should assume a good chance of anchoring which is not a good option if the wind is northeast. The anchorage is pretty tight also with the channel on your port, shoal to starboard, moorings in front and lobster pots behind you.
Make sure you are well set as when the pool empties there is a good current.

Captain: , Cleveland, OHio (421)

Sopped over on a trip from Kittery to Portland. Great service, good food at the restaurant. Walked 2+ hours on the beach. Picked upa moorng, tender service to and from clubhouse. Stayed over an extra day due to weather.

Would definitely stay on the way back south

Highly recommend

quaint yacht club. Not a lot of local facilities.

Nice people, nice place. Limited services.

Nice small facility, 2011-07-25
Captain: , Plantation Yacht Harbor, Islamorada, Fla. Keys (4686)

Moorings only, both in the harbor and through the "gut" in the pool. There is launch will take you to/from your boat. Diesel and gas available at the float. "The Store", about a 100 yards away is a combination grocery and take-out/eat in restaurant featuring fresh seafood and lobsters, and sandwiches. There are a few tables on the poarch and picnic tables overlooking the mooring field. No alcohol consumption on the premises, but a good selection of beer and wine in the store. Would be higher rated if dockside tie-ups were available.

Biddeford Pool, 2011-03-10
Captain: , Lynn, MA (232)

Been a few years since we stopped here, but when we did we were able to get a couple of moorings in the pool. Nice quiet spot, the other reviews pretty much said it all. The outside moorings are OK also but try to get inside if available.

Pretty spot, nice stop-over just South of Portland, 2011-02-02
Captain: , Boston (621)

The transient moorings were taken the night we stopped here but the holding was good for anchoring. For the cost of a mooring, the launch will take you to/from your boat. There's a grocery store up the street that cooks fresh seafood and lobsters and you can eat out back at picnic tables overlooking the pool. No alcohol allowed though.

Biddeford Pool Yacht Club, 2008-09-29
Captain: , Old Saybrook, CT (1021)

Long known as the friendliest yacht club on the East Coast and justifiably so. We were on one of the outside moorings for a couple of cold rainy days when the launch came out and said he'd pick us up for a member-sponsored cocktail party. A number of members showed up with snacks and drinks. A nice fire in the fireplace, etc. What a delight! Excellent grocery store (if you don't see it, ask). Lobster pound, fish market, and a couple of restaurants, etc. Don't miss seeing the "pool" at high and low tide.
