Approach

The drawbridge dosn't answer to VHF 13, but does go up very frequently, and spends at least half it's time in the up position. The bridge services the Amtrac train line.

It was reported on 07/14/2012 that the bridgeresponded on VHF 16.

The currents are very strong as you enter/exit the marina, be careful.

Depths

Approach: 15
Transient dockage: 15
Fuel dock: 15

Other depth info: At least some of the transient dockage is below 3 feet, including dock #6, the north most dock. The dock hands do not have printed records of the depths in their marina, this is very dangerous. I was assigned a slip that wasn't deep enough for my sailboat.

Reviews for Between The Bridges Marina
Large nozzel diesel only, 2012-11-14

If you need diesel, and can't fit a large nozzel pump, you will need to go accross the river to Old Lyme Dock Co. and there are only large nozzels at this facility.

Caution - staff is incompetant, 2007-07-17
Captain: , Huntington, NY (2311)

The positive aspects of this marina, are marred by poor administration and clueless staff.

It took 7 calls to make and confirm a reservation, because there was dissagreement as to wether the gas dock or the marina office should be taking reservations. Both kept saying to call the other. Calling back a few days later got a little better situation, requirement to pay in full by visa was a little odd.

When I arrived three weeks later they didn't have my reservation. After waiting at the fuel dock 1/2 hour they found reservation, but had no record I already paid.

The slip they choose to put me in took considerable skill to manuver into and was better for manuverable motor boats. I tried to refuse pointing out the difficulty level, but they insisted it wasn't as hard as it looked.

Turned out to be impossible ... my initial belief the slip was suitabile for motorboats only was underlined as I ran ground 10% short of the slip !!! The slip was less than 5 foot deep and it wasn't even low tide. A local warned the three staff people that none of the slips in the section were deep enough.

Opps ... at least it was a soft grounding and we got out easily.

Since the dock crew didn't have the depths for the various remaining slips, we went back to the fuel dock for the night, where it was a little rocky as large boats transitted the river.

This place could be so good, if they could get their act together. I will look to delete this entry in the future when they do.

For transients there is also another down side, there is virtually nothing in walking distance of this marina, except the bar/resturant on premis which is pretty good. Everything else requires a taxi ride. Nice swimming pool also.
