Reviews for Belhaven Waterway Marina
Felt very much "at home", 2016-11-11
Captain: , Mystic, CT (40)

Friendly, caring, helpful are the words that come to mind when thinking of what to say about Bellhaven Waterway Marina. Brenda and Les couldn't have made us feel more welcome at their small but complete marina. They are within yards of the super packed TRUE VALUE store and "down the street" from some great restaurants. We look forward to returning on our way back north next spring. I would highly recommend making reservations if you are interested in staying since space is limited.

Nice facilities with Bed & Breakfast feeling, 2016-10-22
Captain: , Chicago, Racine, Fish Creek,Wi (2010)

I struck something in the Alligator River Pungo channel and came here for assistance. Les called an excellent diver to look at the damage and assess the situation for me. Les was very helpful in advising on my unfortunate predicament. Very interesting shower facilities with excellent decorations. Nice patio to chill out on and just relax. Short walk into town. Nice large fenders on the docks to protect your boat. Nice well run marina. Thank you kindly Les.

Nice Place, 2016-10-14
Captain: , Deale, MD (30)

Very homey feel. Easy in. Side tie. Free laundry! Sleepy town. Well stocked Ace Hardware around the corner. Don't miss Tavern at Jack's Neck one block away. Food Lion grocery will require bikes.

Awesome friendly Marina, 2016-08-03
Captain: , Hilton Head, South Carolina (20)

We stayed at the Belhaven Waterway Marina only 1 night making our way down the ICW but certainly would have loved to stay more.
This is a small quaint Marina. The owner met us at the dock ready to take lines and had large buoys already out on her dock. She had us tied up and hooked up to shore power in no time.
The private shower was clean, cool and wonderful with soaps and towels provided. Also, a free laundry that did not mess up our clothes!
The owner was nice enough to take us to the grocery in her personal car. This was way beyond the usual Marina accommodations.
They also suggested a restaurant The Tavern at Jacks Neck that turned out to be our favorite restaurant on our 3 week trip.
We highly recommend this Marina.

One of our favorite places ever, 2016-07-11
Captain: , Sunset Beach, NC (1124)

We've been all the way to Flordia and back and have never been to a more friendly place. We just happened to be passing through on 4th of July weekend, and Les is cooking ribs and the town is having a multi day celebration. Great hardware store just a block away, high end and not so high end restaurants just steps away. Writing this review sitting in a wonderful cabana overlooking the water. The showers are the best we've seen, and we've been to plenty of marinas. Not big. Not fancy. Just wonderful showers just like home, complete with towels. Les can probably fix anything and he gladly helped me with a water pump rebuild. He is a top notch engine mechanic. Marine railway onsite. Very dog friendly as well, just control your dogs and pick up the poop and everyone is happy.

Belhaven Nice Town, 2016-06-30

The consistency over the years of the hospitality and cleanliness makes this a top pick for ICWTravels. Small Marina that really delivers on making you feel welcome.

Run By Cruisers for Cruisers, 2016-04-28
Captain: , Hobe Sound, Florida (450)

Brenda and Les Porter have put together a marina that caters to everything cruisers might look for in a marina. No, you don't need to deploy your own fenders or figure out how to tie up the boat in the weather; no you don't have to take your own towels to the showers and wonder how to get them dried before your next stop; no, you don't have to look for a place to walk your dog; no, you don't have to put a sleeve of quarters in a tired old washer and dryer; and no, you don't have to walk far to one of the best restaurants we've ever experienced, Spoon River Market, or a friendly bakery, Gingerbread Cafe, and even friendlier hardware store. Stayed two days waiting for better weather and kinda sorry it improved because there are other restaurants and a museum we didn't get to visit. A great small town stop seemingly filled with very welcoming people.
04-25 to 04-28-2016 - Returned to find the same great facilities and welcoming reception. Ate at Spoon River again and allso really enjoyed the shrimp and grits and BBQ ribs at The Tavern at Jacks Neck, both just up the street. This is simply an easy, convenient, welcoming stop.

Personalized & Professional Service, 2016-04-20
Captain: , Newport R.I. (30)

Brenda & Les Porter run a very organized small marina. They understand and anticipate the needs of visiting cruisers as they are cruisers themselves; very professional and knowledgeable. Excellent service and great facilities. The best washer & dryer on the ICW hands down. The bathrooms are spotlessly clean. It feels like you're visiting relatives being here. An absolute must if you're stopping in Belhaven.

Great Little Marina But town has died, 2016-01-22
Captain: , Chesapeake Beach, MD 20732 (190)

A great stop with easy access off the ICW. The owners are very helpful and the showers have clean towels for your use and the W/D are free..
Stayed before but since the hospital has closed the town has really declined. The bakery offerings are limited and only one real resturant, Fuel is close by.

Suprisingly great!, 2015-11-18
Captain: , Apponaug R.I. (778)

This is a "mom and pop" marina. They are experts at running this marina. From tie up, to showers with wash cloths and towles, and with beautiful grounds it can not be beat. The Spoon River restaurant is a must.

great private spot, 2015-11-11

Captain: , Florida (50)

We're on our delivery cruise of our new to us Hunter 420. My wife and I are newbies and the folks at Belhaven Marina we a huge help to us. Laid back is what the place is all about. Easy walking distance to town.

Great marina in a nice little town, 2015-11-08
Captain: , Milwaukee WI (657)

The owners of this marina know how to do it right... solid docks and pilings, fenders in place, tunnel to power post for your electric hookup, landscaped, grassy area, deck witih patio furniture and grill, free laundry, homey restrooms. We stayed two nights (to watch our Packer team on Sunday football) with some weather and wind in perfect comfort. Spoon River restaurant in town is excellent!!

Excellent Marina - Right next to town, 2015-11-08
Captain: , Annapolis MD (210)

Great little marina with nice solid floating docks. A little tight coming down finger pier for larger boats (60') but enough room with good water. Fantastic location right next to downtown. Spoon River restaurant is a must; great drinks, wine and food; very welcoming.

Great Little Marina, 2015-11-06
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (110)

Beverly and Les were superb hosts. Very well maintained facility. Bathrooms were immaculate and nicely decorated. Located in the town of Belhaven, stores and restaurants are near by. Marina has a Golf Cart available for use by transients, specially if there is a need for groceries.

First Class Marina and owners, 2015-11-04
Captain: , Washington, NC (10)

We always enjoy going to Belhaven Waterway Marina. Les & Brenda Porter are superb hosts and run a first class facility. Les is a very knowledgeable marine tradesman and does excellent work if needed.

great find / side to: bulkhead mooring, 2015-10-28
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (80)

A pleasant Marina that understands the cruiser. They meet you at the bulkhead and have positioned ball fenders. There is electricity and water. The heads are individual toilet/showers..the nicest we have seen so far. There is also a golf cart to go to the Food Lion supermarket about a mile away. One of the staff drove me to a parts store for a coolant hose, saved the day. also everyone is friendly and pet friendly. Easy two block walk to restaurants and a bakery.

Great stop!, 2015-10-24
Captain: , Mila, VA (70)

This was a nice stop in Belhaven! Exactly as most of the reviews said: convenient to town, nice marina, and super hosts! Les was there to help us tie up and had large fenders already in place. The rest of our one night stay was perfect! We did not participate in happy hour since our daughter drove to meet us, but there was a good crowd of cruisers under the gazebo. Belhaven is a nice town. We've eaten at Spoon River and the Tavern in the past, which are both excellent. We returned to the Tavern last night for a good meal at a reasonable price. Thanks Les and Brenda!

Great homey atmosphere, 2015-10-16
Captain: , Little River, SC (731)

Les and Brenda were there to greet us and help tie up when we entered the marina. Les came aboard and quickly diagnosed a couple sensor issues I was having. Everything about this place makes you feel right at home. Large ball fenders are provided. I wish every marina had these. I would give it 5 stars if it had more than one head with the only shower within. However, the head and shower were very homey and comfortable, as well.

Great stop, really nice owners, 2015-10-12
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (6484)

Help from Brenda coming in and tying up. Extra nice restrooms / showers, almost like home. Free laundry, 1 block to downtown with Ace Hardware and several very good restaurants and a few average ones. Nice gazebo to gather for docktails. If you are lucky, Lee may have some live music to entertain. Nice neighborhood to walk your dog.

What a hidden gem!, 2015-10-11
Captain: , Venice, Fl. (919)

Small marina but what a gem. The property is beautiful and well kept. Each gender has a single bathroom that you would have at home. Washer and dryer are free. The owners live on site and are very friendly and helpful. Spoon River restaurant is around the corner and the food is fabulous.

BEAUTIFUL SMALL MARINA & VERY ACCOMODATING, 2015-10-07
Captain: , Hampton, VA (150)

Second time staying here. Owners very laid back and know the drill. Had us on fenders and tied up quickly. The grounds are very attractive with waterfront views in a nice gazebo and a nice deck. Town shops and Ace Hardware along with restaurants within a blocks walk. Belhaven is a cozy little waterfront town for sure.
With the threat of a hurricane coming and a torential rain fall event they kept the power on until the flood waters overan the main breakers and the second the receeded they had it back on. Brenda and Les are outstanding folks and I highly recommend anyone wanting a top notch run facility to check them out.

Nice small marina, 2015-06-29
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (10)

Nice family run marina. Great location in the heart of Belhaven. Bath house is clean and towels are provided in showers. Not well protected if wind from SE to SW. We were in the end or most outside slip when a nasty storm came in from the SE resulting in a very rocky night so always ask for a slip in the back. Also keep an eye on the weather.

Spoon River across the street, 2015-06-19
Captain: , Ensign Harbor Marina (195)

We did not stay here on this visit but we should have. This is directly across the street from Spoon River. This restaurant is good enough that it makes staying at Belhaven Waterway an even better choice.

Quaint Marina in Bellhaven, 2015-06-05
Captain: , Colorado (411)

Pulled in for a night after a long, rough day on the water. Marina could accomodate our catamaran and had fenders waiting for us...which was a good thing since it was gusting over 30kts across the approach. They consist mostly of two face docks with fairways that are reported to be 60' wide but definitely feel smaller in the crosswind and adjacent boats. Facility is basic but nice. Single restroom with Navy memorabilia that is kept very cold. Marina is near downtown that has a small Ace hardware and a couple restaurants.

Nice little marina, 2015-05-30
Captain: , Annapolis (214)

Les and Brenda are very nice people. Les even let us borrow his car to go get groceries. Good protection from east winds and nice facilities. Spoon River is an awesome restaurant. Try the mussels.

Outstanding stop, 2015-05-14
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (165)

Wow, for a small, quaint stop, this marina is first class. It is obvious that owners Les and Brenda care about this place. Approach is easy with two face dockwalls running down either side of a spit of land. In between is a nice grassy area with gazebo. The real surprise are the restrooms that are just like staying at a friends house. Free soap and cleans towels included. Free laundry is available and make this a must stop on the ICW.

Homey and welcoming, 2015-05-13
Captain: , Hallowell, Maine (240)

Lovely spot, Les and Brenda keep this place ship shape and cozy. Enjoyed the town and had a great meal at Spoon River Artworks and Market.

Nice marina 4/25-26/15, 2015-05-02
Captain: , Atlanta (770)

Stayed here two nights due to weather. Wonderful marina; so-so town (maybe that was because of the weather and it was Saturday & Sunday - most everything closed Sunday). Good facilities (men's restroom has a lot of WW2 items from owner's uncle (?) which is very interesting. Good walking around town. We heard from others there that the tavern was great, but did not experience ourselves.

GREAT LITTLE MARINA, 2015-04-20
Captain: , YORKTOWN, VA (293)

Marina great. The two restaurants in town are astonishing for this little town. Spoon River has superb food and wine. And the Tavern across the street is worth a visit just to look at the extraordinary woodwork, as well as the good tavern food.

A great reason to make Belhaven a stop, 2014-12-12
Captain: , Annapolis (20)

After several years of by-passing Belhaven, we stopped at the Belhaven Waterway Marina. Couldn't be nicer, nor safer as they made sure we were secure for a strong blow that we sat out for 4 days. Also, the town has several very good resturants - the SPOON is top notch, and the others we tried were all great.

Very knowledgable, 2014-12-03
Captain: , Belhaven North Carolina (89)

Les and Brenda pay attention to details

One of the Best Marinas on the ICW, 2014-11-20
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (310)

These folks could not be nicer. Be sure to check out the heads; most entertaining on the ICW. Spend a few days here.

always a good stop, 2014-10-15
Captain: , Carolina Beach, NC (378)

Stopped at Belhavan Waterway marina again, This is a great boutique marina as they can only handle 5 maybe 6 boats. Les and Brenda are great host! They even have fenders already set. The bath facilities are just like being at home, even towels are provided. For eating out, the Spoon River Gallery and Market resturant is not to be missed. As the other reviews state, the food is fantastic and resonably priced. One of the great stops on the ICW!

Excellent small marina, 2014-09-12
Captain: , Buffalo (1144)

This is one of the nicest small marinas. There is only room for 4 or 5 boats in a very sheltered spot. They have a marine railway and do all kinds of repairs. The owners live on site, and are anxious to please. We had air conditioner problems, and the owner took the time to diagnose the problem and recommend a solution.

The marina is in downtown Belhaven, within walking distance of everything, including a large hardware store, and several excellent restaurants. This is certainly a worthwhile stop

Great Stop, 2014-07-27
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (618)

Very professionally run small marina. 2 blocks from Main St Belhaven. Well kept and very clean. Pump out at city docks. Highly recommend.

Small but very comfortable, 2014-07-17
Captain: , Oriental, NC (20)

This was our first stop but definitely will not be the last. A geat destination marina and town. Marina is protected, has great management who are most helpful and yes the bathrooms have free fluffy towels for the shower! Restaurant "Spoon River" is a stone's throw from the Marina with superb food - don't miss marina or restaurant. We will be back - soon..

First Class People, 2014-05-29

Fine little marina. Helpful, knowledgeable owners. Easy place for dogs, very close to town. Fine dinner at Spoon River Cafe.

Delightful & Helpful, 2014-05-23
Captain: , New Bern, NC (40)

Brenda & Les Porter repeatedly went out of their way to be helpful in this small but comfortable marina located right in town. Les knows the marine trades, has the right contacts, and is forward-leaning when assistance is needed. He arranged for a diver to check our running gear & pull props, drove them to Norfolk himslef when no other transport was available, and stayed on top of the repair progress.

Mon and Popism at its best, 2014-05-08
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (110)

We ducked in here as a storm approached and stayed for three days. this tidy little place provided towels to shower with, fenders on the dock and a courtesy car. An interesting old town and some really good restaurant made our stay seem very short.

We returned!, 2014-04-15
Captain: , Gloucester, Virginia (100)

We came in and left our boat because of bad weather. Owners were most helpful. Best shower facilities. Good outdoor rooms with nice plantings. Spoon River restaurant is the best--Thersa, Drew, and Mare gave us a fine meal. Everything one needs except for pump out and fuel. Ace hardware nearby.

Enjoyable Stay 21 Dec 2013, 2014-01-10
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (280)

Stayed here 3 nights to ride out some weather and do a few things on board. Fairly small marina that treats you right. Laundry and wifi included with your fee. Every place we ate in town was good, the service was excellent. The owners offered rides to the Food Lion. They have large ball fenders along the dock, nice touch. I guess the only thing not here is fuel and a pump out station. We will be back.

Edited to update. Due to a family emergency and engine problem we ended up staying here 2 weeks. Les and Brenda were very accommodating. Transportation arrangements from the airport and excellent trouble shooting and repair of our engine. Thanks!

best service available , 2013-12-06
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (216)

We've stayed on two occasions and each time met with prompt, friendly knowledgable staff.
The tow is coming back from recession slack and offers three good restaurants within easy walking distance.
The owners organized a 5:00 pm grocery run to a supermarket and drove us and picked us up

great little place, 2013-12-02
Captain: , Ft. Myers Fl (230)

Les and Brenda run this delightful marina the way things should be. Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and onsite all night. Excellent for haulout, power wash and quick below the waterline repairs. Very reasonable rates and town has everything you might need. Chuck Latham has a shop across the new bridge and is very helpful with parts and repairs, if he doesn't have it, he'll find it or get it for you. Swain gas has all your propane needs, but is a mile and a little walk away. Hardware store in town can help with nuts and bolts. Don't miss the tavern at jack's neck, a brand new resataurant and nice bar with a classy nautical theme has excellent pizza.

Full of Character, 2013-12-01
Captain: , Wiscasset, Maine (280)

Very small but expertly run marina. Layout and atmosphere encourage boaters to socialize in the beautifully maintained lawn area

Well Worth the Stop, 2013-11-25
Captain: , Oriental, NC (244)

We stopped last week in our boat for the first time. Linda and John were working the docks and were very helpful, met us at the dock and helped get us settled in. Very nice restrooms. We had a walk around town and were surprised by all of the activity and renovations going on. Some very nice restaruants going in. Well worth the stop. Ashley and Carol, m/v Mermaid

Nice marina and small town, 2013-11-11
Captain: , Galesville, MD (1067)

Stayed two nights early November. Helpful staff. Easy dockage for our 44' sailboat 6' draft dock side tie up with private nav aids making their marina channel. Les helped us turn the boat around to leave as it is a bit tight. Not a large marina. Agree with comments on nice bathrooms and facilities. One washer and dryer - $2 each.

Les was extremely helpful getting an autopilot issue repaired promptly as promised.

Long walk to Food Lion. Three people offered us rides, but we wanted the walk.

Spoon River is worth the stop to Belhaven for an excellent dinner. Restaurant seems like a big city restaurant with a small town flair. Farm to table. A new bar restaurant is opening soon. Good hardware store. Odd collectibles museum. Cross your fingers for this little town.

Don't miss this Marina, 2013-11-01
Captain: , Deltaville, Va (40)

I stopped for the 3rd time at this great little marina and was once again extremely pleased. It has everything I needed plus very friendly people. Les did a superb job of rewiring my regulator from a completely non-functioning condition. The nearby Spoon River Restaurant served us a fine a meal as you could ever find along the waterway. I will Definitely be back.

Belhaven Waterway Marina, 2013-10-22
Captain: , Quoset Daviseville Naval Yacht Club (250)

Bathrooms are interesting, Mens a WWII small museum and Ladies decorated with interesting marina type decorations. Clean and supply towels.

Sunday and Monday most of local establishments are closed with exception of food store, staff will help you get there if you need food supplies. Linda and her husband were helping out owners that were away and they were great and could not do enough for all boat owners when they arrived, during stay, and when everyone left.

Not a lot of space so make a reservation, easy walk to restaurants, and hardware store.

Hospital near by, very secure, well sheltered marina, and plenty of water. Little difficult to find, just past new condos with large sign that reads Private Marina.

Pretty place that is well kept by owners although from the water it does not appear to be as nice as it is.

Washer and Dryer available.

Nice small town marina, 2013-10-20
Captain: , Pasadena,Maryland (510)

Well protected, bulkhead tieup. Neat landscaping. Men's room is a WW2 museum. WI-FI good. Towels in bathrooms. Small town- not much here. A good one night stop.
Pump-out is at town pier (next door).

Nice Surprise., 2013-09-03
Captain: , Richardson, TX (552)

We have always anchored in Pungo Creek when transiting this part of the ICW and decided to check out Belhaven. Not a whole lot going on in the town, we ate at Fish Hooks, got an ice cream at the variety store and tried to visit the museum but the fellow there was very unfriendly and a bit rude so we left. Later in the year there'll be a cool tavern/restaurant opening called "Jack's Neck". As for the marina, it was great. Les and Brenda are extremely friendly and helpful as per the other reviews. I agree, the bathrooms (womens' anyway) are awesome. Clean, beautifully decorated and yes, towels are stacked and ready for you. It is very nicely landscaped, plants everywhere and the view of the sunset from our boat was beautiful. We will probably stop here again.

Like pulling into a friend's back yard!, 2013-08-17
Captain: , Falmouth Foreside, ME (20)

For starters the bathrooms are the best, complete with towels and soap (and conditioner and lotion for the ladies-it's the little things). Yard for the pups to play, gas grill, and walking distance to ACE and some great restaurants (most notably Spoon River - we went twice!)

Linda and John are there with a net should you drop your iPhone 5 overboard.
While Brenda and Les go out of their way to make sure you have a memorable time.

It also happens to be a lovely spot to get engaged. I'll never forget the Belhaven Waterway Marina.

A Gem in a small Town, 2013-08-04
Captain: , Anna Maria Island (573)

Well run, super helpful couple that own the marina heck they even have the dock lined with fenders so you don't need to fender up. Town doesn't have much however it has one 5 star resturant and a new very cool looking bar coming soon.

A Nice Little Stop, 2013-08-04
Captain: , Between Boats, USA (623)

What a cute little stop. Stopped in July 2013 on the way to Manteo. We were tied up by Linda and John (and their dog Roscoe) Didn't meet Brenda or Les, but Brenda's decor around such a small marina is second-to-none. Bathrooms were clean and heavily decorated. Docks are fixed and THEY had fenders ready for us. Nice touch. Rates are good. Even with the free docks right next door. Really, we can't say enough about it. What kept it from a 5-star is the town. It's so sleepy. There is not a lot to see or do. Yes, it's a great place to stop for the night, but I would have a hard time putting this on a regular place to visit. It does, however, appear they are trying to attract more boaters. September 2013 will be The Birthplace of the ICW celebration. I hope it goes well for them. With just a little work, Bellhaven could be a real gem.

Belhaven was a heaven!, 2013-07-27
Captain: , Savannah, GA (320)

What a great little marina. Gazebo with seating looking out over the sound and everything beautifully decorated with nautical items and beautiful landscape. Les was awesome. We came in on one engine. He was able to help us not only diagnose the problem but fix it. He is a jack of all trades. We were also able to borrow his electric car to get groceries. Bathrooms and showers were immaculate. Did not use the laundry but very clean. Fantistic ACE hardware store within walking distance. Make sure your wife goes with you - lots of nautical items.

Great spot. Very well maintained. Well protected from weather. Most knowledgable and helpful owners on site. Les can get you in no matter what the weather is doing!

What a beautiful little place, 2013-06-24
Captain: , Abilene, TX (210)

Les and Brenda were the best and you will not find a nicer "mom & pop" marina anywhere. facilities were great and everything is clean and tidy. Brenda took us to grocery store and town & nice restaurants were easy walk. will stay here anytime we are in area, it was great

Ditto on Les is More, 2013-06-21
Captain: , Jersey City, NJ (190)

Another one of those 'wow' where was this palce hiding stops. Great couple running the place, the head was equipped with real towels for the showers and was full of photos and letters from WWII. Fascinating! In town was a wonderful restaurant with linen table clothes, a funky decor, a great young woman running the place, and one of the best meals on the trip.

Tradition from Hampton, VA, 2013-06-20
Captain: , Hampton (10)

Short and sweet.....Great marina, great bulkhead docking and close to town. Les and Brenda are great! Amy purchased new pillows for our boat from the hardware store.

Belhaven Waterway Review, 2013-06-12
Captain: , Freeport, Maine (175)

It would be hard to overstate what a great little spot this marina is. The facilities are immaculate, the nicest heads I have ever seen, the owners, Brenda and Les, are accommodating and extremely helpful and consciencious. The town has several nice restaurants only a block or two away. We were most impressed with the Spoon restaurant... a white table cloth, excellent food, great service, and with the added feature of a wine store where you select a bottle and normal retail prices and they serve it with no "corkage" fee.
Great little community where we weather the first rropical storm of the season.

This Great Small Marina Also Has Marine Railway, 2013-05-29
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (884)

We have stopped at Belhaven Waterway Marina twice and enjoyed both times. The gazebo, decks, laundry, bathrooms are all very good. The WW2 Navy decor in the men's bath is quite remarkable. Belhaven has a general merchandise/Ace Hardware 2 blocks away, stocking some marine items. Good restaurants within walking range.
An unusual feature at the marina is a marine railway, capable of hauling fairly large boats (ask owners) for repairs, prop or bottom work, etc.

best boatyard experience ever, 2013-05-28
Captain: , marathon, fl (701)

had a breakdown off this marina. Les and Brenda did everything possible to insure our repairs were completed fast and right. the town is very cruiser friendly with some awsome places to eat.

Les is More, 2013-05-18
Captain: , Charleston, SC (140)

Just got the snot kicked out of us crossing the Nasty Neuses. Sheltered dockage was soooooo needed. We arrive and Les checks us in and offers up some fresh blue crab.... Wow!
Fixed a pocket door ripped from it's housing and keep a watchful eye on our boats while we high-tailed it back home waiting out this weather!
Georgie's was great. Fantastic oysters. Great sports bar if you are a Redskins fan. If you like your oysters shucked for you, this is your new home!
REALLY!

Quaint, friendly, like a B&B, 2013-05-12
Captain: , Hertford, NC (215)

Stayed here again (fifth time over the years) and they are still running an excellent operation. The service, grassy pier, gazebo, jacuzzi and unique and clean bathrooms make it feel like a B&B.
(Street side entrance could use some dressing up. Water Street still has some of that industrial feel from when the very nice, new condo complex next door was crab processing plant.)
All in all a first class operation. I concur with the good points of other reviews.
New local restaurant - Spoon River Artworks and Market - a very short walk away, has added a classy touch to Belhaven. Excellent food, stafff and decor (very eclectic) and on mother's day the place was awash in cut peony, a large bouquet of which were given out to all women as they left. Dont miss marina or Sppon River rest.

Charming and Friendly, 2013-04-29
Captain: , Boothbay Harbor, Maine (310)

The owners, Les and Brenda, are trying very hard to improve the facilities since purchasing the yard 5 years ago. They are doing a great job. They are extremely hospitable. Docking was a handled nicely. The bathrooms are indeed a talking piece with WWII memorbelia. It is a nice stop in a friendly and protected area. Docking is done along their waterside piers requiring that the boat be spun around. A 55 footer in front of us did it but aided by thrusters of course.

We had always meant to stop, 2013-04-12
Captain: , Reedville, VA (688)

While not your lavish marina, it is a unique stopping place. Dockage is limited. Docking is a pleasure. Les and Brendia are superb in tying up your boat. The bathrooms are a surprise. A short walk into town yields many new business. New town docks are being built. The town seems to be trying to encourage cruisers to stop and enjoy the local amenities. We will be stopping on our way south to see the results.

Small friendly family owned marina., 2013-02-24
Captain: , Ft Lauderdale FL (271)

Fairway is tight. Conveniently located to walk into town. Bathrooms are not to be missed.

Belhaven Waterway Marina, 2013-01-09
Captain: , Yorktown, Va. (10)

We visited Belhaven Waterway Marina Oct. 2012. A beautiful marina, well run with unexpected extras. Every piling on the face dock has a large round finder, they are deployed as you pull in. The dock plank next to each power pedestal is hinged so your power cable and hose are under the deck (no trip hazard). The heads are not just clean and well equipped but decorated with antique nautical items. The heads always have fresh bath towels and wash cloths. The marina operators Les and Brenda go all out to make your stay so nice you hate to leave.

Belhaven Paradise, 2012-12-09
Captain: , Hilton Head Island (86)

Great place to stop and visit Belhaven. 1 block from the town center and resturaunts. Small but beautifully kept. Owners met us with 1st class bumpers in place and all the help we could ask for.

Great Marina, great mechanic, cutest ICW bath rooms, 2012-11-27
Captain: , Reedville, VA (59)

All above true in spades. Went out of their way to locate and order parts via internet on a holiday weekend (delivered ontime). Always reassured us it would be repaired ASAP and correctly. It was better than new. Corrected poor owner installed PIY dripless shaft gland install. No wonder it was always leaking. Good prices, helpful, good internet. The only marina I know of that provides towels and wash clothes for the showers. Does mostly power boat work, but can do "in the water" sailboat work.

Great little marina, 2012-11-15
Captain: , Corpus Christi,Tx (1569)

Nice small marina with very a clean bathhouse and well kept grounds. Close to a couple of restuarants and a hardware store. The museum is worth a look, but not much else in town.

Good Stop on a Stormy Day, 2012-11-07
Captain: , Stuart, FL (909)

Very nice, small marina. Excellent directions from Len getting into a fendered, fixed dock. Nicely landscaped grounds and clean facilities. Docked in the rain and wind and stayed the next day during a northeast storm. Recommended.

Nov 5th, 2012
A great stop with a terrific owners that greet you and take your lines. Good bathrooms and very close to the small town. No real stores nearby except a hardware store and restaurant across the street.

A small Gem well worth the stay, 2012-11-03
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (980)

This is a small Marina but Les and Brenda Porter give it their full attention. The aminities, such as showers and laudry are first rate, more like home than a public facility. There are good resturants in walking distance as well as a hardware store. Well worth the stop

A Small Gem, 2012-11-03
Captain: , La Pointe WI (201)

Our friends from Washington, NC, told us about this marina. We were very impressed. Les & Brenda, the owners, are friendly & helpful. They keep things well supervised as they live in their large motorhome on this narrow spit of land with long docks on either side. The dockage fee is $1.69 per foot. No discounts. The whole place is full of pretty plants, wooden walkways, a gazebo, decks with lounge furniture and the restrooms, showers & laundry are all immaculate and richly decorated with treasures from the sea. We had one of the best seafood dinners ever at the Fish Hook Cafe where all the locals go.

Captain: , Oriental (100)

We have stayed at this marina multiple visits. Great stay as usual

Quiet little spot, 2012-07-29
Captain: , St Augustine, Fl (477)

Boy does this place have some character. Miss Brenda and husband live in a RV on property. and have the place nicely landscaped. She came out to take our lines. They will let you use the car to go to the grocery store. We had to wait out a cold front which lasted 4 days. You can also anchor about 200 yards out in front of the marina if you are on a budget. But We will use this marina again. Room for about a dozen boats.

Family owned, they make their customers feel like guests, 2012-07-03
Captain: , New Orleans, LA (631)

Nicely landscaped small marina with a well maintained fixed dock. Not much in the town, but a secure place to spend the night. Everything was clean and neat, not at all corporate.

will return!, 2012-06-24
Captain: , taylor lake, texas (80)

small, homey, clean cute restrooms. can tell the owners really care about their marina. Easy docking, fairly close to ICW.

Good stop if thats all you want, 2012-06-15
Captain: , Somers Point (460)

Small facility with great people. Not much else. Can take big boats (mine is 48') but if full, in and out can be tricky for a large vessel. As we like to cook onboard this was a perfect place for us. They know their weather!!

Just a great place., 2012-04-23
Captain: , Monches,wi (330)

Tucked in here for 2 days to get out of weather. What a find. Les and Brenda are friendly and helpful. Not a big place but very well maintained and with clean restrooms, showers, and laundry. Not much to be found in town. Try Fish hooks for dinner. Food Lion is about a 3 mi. jaunt but the only source to provision.

Some exposure to west winds but certainly nothing intolerable.

A great stay!, 2012-03-26
Captain: , Bohemia River, Md (184)

We arrived here on a Friday afternoon intending to stay a couple days to wait out some T-storms and wind before heading north to cross the Albermarle.....what a wonderful place! Docking is easy, and the owners are so helpful and nice. We were treated in the evening to a 'Pot luck Beer Can Chicken' dinner and Les, the owner, and his friends broke out their guitars and treated us all (their were 2 other trawlers) to some wonderful music and songs.....! The bathrooms are very cleverly decorated, and both the town and marina are charming with a 'home' feeling.......we will definately put this on our 'must stop at' list for the ICW transit.....

The best sunset ever, 2012-02-07
Captain: , Southport, NC (916)

We arrived at Belhaven around dinner time after the nicest Pamlico Sound crossing we've had coming from Hatteras. Unfortunately most of the area restaurants and B & B's were closed for the holiday weekend. Belhaven Waterway Marina drove us to the Grocery store and helped us prepare a fantastic barbeque dinner on the back porch of the marina with a fantastic sunset. They go above and beyond and the ride up the Pungo River is really pretty and well marked.

great small marina, 2011-12-04
Captain: , Annapolis MD (21)

SMALL BUT VERY PLEASANT STOP. OWNERS VERY HELPFUL.WE WOULD DEFINITELY RETURN AGAIN. WE LOOKED ALSO AT RIVER FOREST MARINA, WHICH WAS IN DISREPAIR AND WITH FUEL HOSE LYING ON DOCKS.

The only marina I have seen with fenders along their docks., 2011-12-04
Captain: , Red Lion, DE (712)

2011-12-2 The owners are excellent at assisting with docking and the ball type fenders almost guarentee a safe docking. The docks are in 1st class condition and have a dock board at each power pedestal that is hinged so it can be lifted to allow your power cord to run under the dock. The marina is small but very convenient to the downtown, which is only a block away. Unfortunately over half of the storefronts are vacant - a sign of the tough economic times, esp. for a small town. There is an Ace Hardware, a Wells Fargo Bank, a drugstore, beauty salon, three restaurants and a gift shop or two. All are within two blocks of the marina. We have stayed at the only other marina right in Belhaven (River Forest Marina) and this is far superior.

best marina, 2011-11-28
Captain: , Washington NC (10)

Best small marina I have ever stayed at. Super clean showers. Very knowledgeable and helpful owner.

A Bit Rickity!, 2011-11-02
Captain: , City Island New York (600)

They suffered some damage from Irene and some of the docks are not fully repaired. Great ladies room with towels, hair dryer and scale! (Did NOT use that!) The laundry room was basic but fine, the water is excellent. WiFi only worked near the office. Les ran us into town for a post office and supermarket run. There is not much to see in town, the "museum" so dusty I could not breathe! This is a friendly, small Mom & Pop marina where you feel Les could take care of any problem you may have.

Call these guys if you have a marine need!!!!!, 2011-10-19
Captain: , Portsmouth RI (60)

I can't say enough about Less and Brenda. They are fabulous! We called them for service, while stranded with a broken starter/solenoid. We hailed and hailed TowBoatUS for hours and hours.. as did other vessels disturbed by the lack of response (thanks again everyone). After fitting us into the afternoon schedule, and over-hearing the lack of response from TowBoatUS, Less and Brenda came to us, many miles up the ICW. Less had the problem isolated in 5-10 minutes, gave us a best cure suggestion, and had us on our way. If you need any kind of marine service call these guys first.. they are the salt of the earth and EXCELLENT mechanically. ***** Five stars, top of my list!!

Small Marina Large in Charm, 2011-10-04
Captain: , Josephine Alabama (183)

Ditto all previous reviews. Les & Brenda made our stay very enjoyable. Very professional docking assistance and well protected docks. Marina is well maintained. Good 50 amp service..which has been difficult to find in most places. Belhaven is charming and appears to be coming back.

Marina evaluation, 2011-07-20
Captain: , Dover, Delaware (30)

This is another must stop on our trips up and down the east coast. I don't think we have ever failed to stop here at least in one direction. Les and Brenda Porter represent another family run marina where they go out of their way to make the transient feel at home. They have super clean restrooms, showers, and washing machines. They provide taxi service to downtown needs although most stores are within walking distance.

Still the Best, 2011-06-26
Captain: , New Rochelle, NY (1000)

Les and Brenda are still here and now they have 'Belhaven', a Yorkie, to be with 'Marina'.

Belhaven Waterway Marina, 2011-06-23
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (50)

Very nice owners and the marina's facilities are entertaining! Sadly, the town seems to be dying. There is an Ace Hardware that has everything - including wine, cheese and cavier! There is little to no internet or cell coverage.

Great little marina in Belhaven, 2011-04-28
Captain: , Havre de Grace (119)

Great face dock tie up with huge ball fenders for protection. The marina looks immaculate and tastefully decorated. Owners will do everything possible to accomodate your needs. This should be a first choice marina for this area

Friendly family style marina, 2011-03-19
Captain: , Cobbs creek va (193)

but a bit tight to get into. The channel is shoaled on the side away from the dock. Still, the folks there were friendly and helpful. And in town, just a few blocks away one can still get a $0.50 cup of coffee (haven't seen a one of those since 1996) and a 1/2 pint size ice cream cone for $2.00

Absolutely the best anywhere, 2010-12-08
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (691)

Great news!! Les and Brenda are not selling, and are in fact expanding. We have our Monk 36 there for overall maintenance, including adding a full bridge canvas/window enclosure, all done at the marina. There is nothing Les and Brenda cannot do. They are the best!

The work we had done there over summer 2010 was superb. It is by far our most favorite marina anywhere. That is after travelling from nantucket to the west coast of Florida. Do not bypass this wonderful place. We have been there probably thirty times over the past 6 years.

Above and Beyond, 2010-11-11
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (392)

Our intention on Nov 4th was to make Beaufot, NC, but damaged props limited us to Bellehaven. We radioed ahead for a slip and a diver.Les, the owner, called a diver, "Catfish," (who arrived the same time we did), helped us tie up in the pouring rain. Catfish changed the props and we were ready to go the next morning.

Les and Brenda even suggested the diver use their facilities to take a shower before leaving. They also checked to see if we needed any groceries before they left to go shopping.

Top Notch, 2010-11-10
Captain: , East Greenwich, RI (588)

We will be back. Very reasonable and superb facilities, IE over sized fenders allready on the pier when we arrived and very nice bathrooms. you will not be disapointed.

Wonderful !!!, 2010-11-04

Second visit and plan to come back, 2010-10-30
Captain: , charleston (761)

This was our second time at Belhaven Marina and we will return again. It is that nice? Friendly, clean, 2 blocks from downtown (although lots of empty storefronts), very dog friendly. Brenda and Les are very accomodating. Plan to return on weekend to eat at bookstore/wine store/cafe.

A Little Gem!, 2010-10-09
Captain: , Lexington, Kentucky (160)

This is our 4th visit and we plan our trips so we don't miss it!! Brenda and Les offer a friendly, professionally operated and welcoming place and their attention to detail makes this a very special place! Right in town and tho' the town doesn't look like much, it has a couple good restaurants and one really gourmet one: Back Bay Cafe, a great combination of book & wine store and restaurant...if you are in town Thursday - Sunday. Georgie's and the Fish Hook are both quite good too, and they are open more often. Hopefully no one will need it, but the regional hospital right next to the marina provides excellent health services as well.

We will be back!, 2010-09-26
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (10)

We agree with the other reviews! The marina is very friendly. After a very long day, Belhaven Waterway was a welcome change. The Marina is dog friendly, too.
We will be back to see Les, Brenda and their two dogs.

Delightful, clean family owned marina, 2010-05-02
Captain: , Tellico Marina (290)

We could not have been in a better place to ride out the weather. The marina is not big, but it has the heart of a lion. Dog friendly and easy walking for dog and owner. Town is within 2 blocks, but not much there in the way of shopping. However, there is a well stocked Ace Hardware that even sells beer and wine. Great meals at a couple of good locally owned restaurants - Georgies's Oyster Bar and Fish Hooks Cafe. The marina owners took us to the store and loaned us their personal car to visit the vet. Kudos to Les and Brenda!

Friendly, pretty, and protected, 2010-02-28
Captain: , Sarasota (1427)

Nice folks - we wish them well in their retirement after they sell the marina. We particularly like the hardware store in town that sells beer, wine, and specialty food items.

My Kind of Place, 2009-10-07
Captain: , Belhaven, NC (363)

After the large, impersonal and sometimes intimidating marinas we had been in, Belhaven Waterway was a welcome change. We were directed in by VHF, met at the dock by the owners, fenders already placed. They coiled the lines, plugged the shorepower, and all but gave us a warm hug. Little gardens, a proud flag, gazebo, hot tub, wifi, and a schnauzer with an attidude, the best showers complete with authentic WWII Navy memoribilia.
10-07-09 update: Because of Les, Brenda and their marina, we fell in love with Belhaven and moved here a year ago. We're right next door.

Simply the Best, 2009-09-23
Captain: , Wrightsville Beach (33)

I move boats up and down the East Coast and whenever I have the opportunity to stay with Les & Brenda at Belhaven Waterway Marina I do. They are just super nice folks that take good care of you. The marina and facilities are terrific and it's just a short walk to town for a great meal at Fish Hooks or Georgie's Oyster Bar.

Fantastic people and facility, 2009-06-16

Great place to stop over. This is a huge stopping point on the trip north or south.

Very nice facility, people and location. Drove me to the Food Lion and ABC stores.

Great Stop!, 2008-08-02

Small but personal. Best Shower room I've ever seen in a Marina! Provides Soap, Shampoo, Towels, the works, just like home. Brenda very helpful with docking.

One of the best places we have ever stayed, 2008-05-22
Captain: , orrs island maine (57)

We called in the afternoon to inquire if they would have a slip for that night. We explained only one of our engines were running and we would probably not get there untll 7:00PM. They do not normally stay open that late but said they would wait for us. We called back and said we were not going to make it till 7:30PM. They said okay. When we finally arrived Les and Brenda made us feel so welcome. Les gave us information regarding our transmission and also gave us his email address in the event that we have any questions about transmissions he said he will gladly help us. To us these kind, friendly folks gave us a much needed feeling of the togetherness of boaters. The facility is very nice. Off the driven path a charming place and lovely location. Brenda has a hand with beautiful plants and they everywhere.

Great Small Marina, 2007-06-20
Captain: , Holden Beach, NC (15)

I agree 99 % with Captain Dave Friedrich's review. Schnauzer with attitude passed away. Owners have a brand new puppy schnauzer named Marina now in training.

Great Folks!, 2007-03-01
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (44)

In April '04, came up Pungo River on wet, windy day. Lost steering due to steering ram breaking loose from hull. White knuckled it into Belhaven Harbor. These folks met me at the dock, and with some excellent line handling, laid me alongside their dock with nary a bump. Proceeded to diagnose and then reglass the steering ram platform into place. All this with very reasonable rates, and courteous cheerfulness. These guys should be the model for anyone else running a marina....
