Reviews for Bear Mountain State Park
Floating dinghy docks are missing. , 2015-07-12
Captain: , Florida Keys (734)

There was a dumpster on the dock, and no signs posted concerning dockage. The wooden dock has bolts that stick out. Fendering would be difficult for the passing wakes.

Heavy dock but not good for small boats, 2013-06-28
Captain: , Key Biscayne FL (3049)

This dock is designed for 120' excursion ships. It has only a few heavy mooring points and two rings. Worst problem is no piles to keep you off the dock. There are two dolphins at each end, 100 feet apart. There is a heavy cross beam between but rub rails could be trapped underneath. This is typical of excursion landings on the river.

To get to Hessian Lake and Bear Mountain Lodge walk through train underpass to a undeveloped parking area. Paved path to the right brings you up hill past the large public swimming pool and the zoo to the lake. Its only 150' at the lake elevations not 1000' as previously reported.
There is a new floating dinghy, kayak dock adjacent to main dock but it is too light for trawler docking.
No services. No signs defining use. Park website says $1/ft

VERY steep climb up to park, 2012-09-16
Captain: , Bristol, Rhode Island (2702)

A paved walking path leads up to Hessian Lake and the picnic grounds, inn and restaurants at Bear Mtn State Park. It's only 1/2 mile but it's NOT an easy climb: Hessian Lake is 1,000 ft. above river level. However it's do-able in 15 - 20 minutes.
