Reviews for Topsail Island Yacht Club
A very nice place to stop, 2017-06-26
Captain: , jacksonville, FL (340)

This small marina has nice floating docks, good power, and great wi-fi. That's it. No bathrooms or other physical amenities. It is located one block from the 'center' of Surf City, a cute little beach town. There's an IGA food store just three blocks away.

Whag makes tghis place worth stopping is Marc and his small crew, who are knowedgeable and accommodating; and the very low fuel price--the lowest I have paid on the entire trip.

They have limited transient slip facilities, so be sure to call before arriving. But even if you don't stay here, stop for fuel.

The entrance channel looks a little sketchy, but we found 8 feet at near low tide throughout the 250 yards of the channel by staying midway between their markers.

This location is perfect for slow cruisers to stop between Beaufort and Southport.

Great for dry slip owners, 2016-02-17
Captain: , Topsail Island, NC (151)

The old beach house marina was foreclosed upon by the bank, and was subsequently split into two properties: this yacht club, which consists of 196 dry slips, and was renamed the TI Yacht Club, and the property next door, which was also renamed and has been reopened under the name Topsail Island Marina. The Yacht Club does not have slips available to transients or fuel, but Topsail Island Marina next door has both. The Yacht Club is great for its slip owners. But for services for transients, try Topsail Island Marina next door. This is a great ICW stop with lots of amenties and restaurants.

Captain: , Sunbury, Ga (352)

Called and they did not have any slips available. Gave me the phone number of Blue Water realty next door, Greg 910-328-3400 as they have slips for rent.

Unsuccessful, 2014-04-07
Captain: , League City, Texas (293)

We were told they are in receivership but they were willing to put us in a 25' slip. We are 43' plus overhangs x 15'. We tried docking but there was a strong wind and we were too long for the slip so ended up leaving. The bank won't let them use the larger slips so they were roped off. I'll give the dock hands an a plus for trying!

good stay, close to stores, 2013-11-03
Captain: , Mystic,CT (202)

Tied my 37 foot pursuit on a 25 ft slip, close to Hardee's, IGA supermarket, gas station, barber, restaurants, and beach pier.

New Info update, 2013-07-07
Captain: , Northport MI (405)

7/6/13 Per local knowledge: There are 3 trsansient slips at Beach House Marina. Laundry, restrooms, showers locked up. We were also referred to Greg Isenhower at 919-612-8217 for a slip. Slips are just north of Dry Storage Facility. We had a slip that accomodated our 28' Albin Trawler, 30 amp power and water. Entered from ICW at 2 hrs past high tide and encountered no less than 6' depths. Walking distance to IGA Grocery. Since slip was on west side of the Surf City Bridge, this was the only convenient location to meet friends on Topsail Beach. Rating pertains to this slip managed by Greg.

Nice for price., 2013-06-27
Captain: , Heathsville VA (41)

GPS couldn't find, had on NW side of bridge. Once in here it was protected and $1.50 ft was easy on pocket. One shower and two restrooms were about 150 yards from slips. Appeared to have about 20 slips available but not much for 35 or over.

New info update, 2013-06-07
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1550)

There is now some availablity next to the dry stack for weekly or overnight slips. Call Greg at 919-612-8217 for more info. Says he can handle up to 35 ft, putting in power this week.

Too bad it's Closed!!!, 2012-06-20
Captain: , Topsail Beach, NC (480)

Beach House Marina is closed....taken over by bank. Hopefully it will be purchased and reopened. As a local, I'll let you know if that happens!

Closest alternative marina is Harbour Village a few miles south.

Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1633)

Since this is the only marina between Southport and Beaufort, NC they can get away with $2/ft. The pluses: good floating docks, 30/50A, on ICW. The minuses: No help in tyiing up. The dock attendant was not on site as promised when we arrived. He said he got "caught" on the wrong side of the swing bridge The rest rooms are dirty. They do not know what's going on as we were told by radio which slip to go to but it was occupied.
The marina is in receivership so I suspect the employees are not motivated.

Good Docks and staff, 2012-05-08
Captain: , Saint Michaels (320)

Docks and staff are good. Fish market nearby. Groceries and restaurants nearby. Heads and Showers are basic.

Basic but worth the stop, 2012-05-07
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (386)

Agree with other reviewers: expensive but so convenient for provisioning, eating a meal. Even my bank was 1 block away!

Pluses and Minuses, 2012-04-25
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

Pluses - very convenient to town, shopping, beach, restaurants, etc. Good docks. Nice folks. Some protection. Bathrooms, shower, washer/dryer adequate. Slip docks are + - 35 feet.
Minuses - As already mentioned the fuel and pump dock are tricky for single engine boats. Tight turning pool. For us the 50 amp service only put out 30 amps. The local marine store is more for runabouts not cruisers.
I would stay here again though.

Great provisioning stop, 2012-03-16
Captain: , Great Falls, VA (1092)

I have stayed here 5 times and its become a standard stop on my trips on the ICW. Its a bit expensive for what you get facility wise compared to other marinas in the area. But the convience to everything makes it worth it. Within 2 blocks: grocery store, liquor store, beer/wine store, marine store and lots of restraunts. Not many ICW stops can boast that (in fact I can think of none).

The staff has always been super friendly and did one year give me a good discount on the slip because the water was off for the winter(and I didnt even need water).

There really is not another way to see Topsail/Surf City while cruising the ICW. And the beach is far nicer then Wrightsville in my opinion and only a 2 block walk from the marina.

Few slips, but never has been an issue, I have only seen at most 1 other transient there and ussually 4 or 5 empty slips. Docking is very easy with good deep entry and good maneuvering space. You pretty much go strait into a slip from the channel Fuel dock though is tucked in a corner though might be tough for some sailboats that dont maneuver well thus I have never fueled here.

Protection is about as good as it gets, I stayed here in 2011 that day over 100 tornados hit NC, it was windy and nasty but no issues in the marina or with the very good floating docks.

If you stop in season, which is not really when most snowbirds would stop, be sure to visit the sea turtle sanctuary and hospitol (not open to public out of tourist season).

Definately a place most cruisers skip because of price, but might want to reconsider. It gets 4 rather then 5 stars only because I do think it should be 1.50 rather then 2 per foot, but $15 extra is worth it and probably saved in taxi rides provisioning elsewhere.

stopped on 10/31/11, 2011-11-05
Captain: , Bear, DE (255)

Convenient, adequate, priced right. Nice short walk to the beach and around town. Probably a great place in season. If you are heading south on the ICW the bridge is right there so timing the opening is a cinch.

It's a dock - but is close to the beach, 2011-10-19
Captain: , Poughkeepsie, NY (6077)

It's very basic, a dock is about it. However, it's within a couple of blocks of the beach with all the associated restaurants and stores. Be sure to eat at Daddy Mac's, very good. There's an IGA market within two blocks and and outstanding fish market you can see from the marina - it 's a must stop for fish! We had fresh tuna at $12.95/lb. There's also a bakery a block away. Good beach area to explore.

The marina is very protected from any wave action and there's an honest 7.5 ft MLW approach. Two dock hands come out to meet us and helped us in.

Great stop, 2011-10-18
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (1145)

The marina doesn't have many transient slips so you may want to call ahead. We've stayed here 3 times now and had a positive experience each time. The marina folks are very helpful. Free pumpout and electric. The beach is a short wallk and it's beautiful. Also an IGA for grocery shopping and plenty of resturants some right on the beach.

Lots of stores nearby, but pricey, 2011-09-15
Captain: , Greenville TX (580)

2.00/ft is high for this stretch, but it's clean, easy access and close shopping. We just stopped overnight and it was a restful night.

Great location off the ICW, 2011-08-04
Captain: , Annapolis, Md (30)

The marina has limited slips but good facilities. There are 10 good restaurants within walking distance, a Dairy Queen, and a boating/fishing supply store across the street. The beach is also a 5 minute walk away.

An Average Martina, 2011-05-31
Captain: , Pentwater, MI (415)

We have stayed here 2 times. For us it is more about location. We dislike this stretch of the ICW with 3 bridges that open on the hour and not on request. Makes for a long day having to time each of the 3 bridges.

Facts: The marina is 100 feet north of the Surf city swing bridge.

The bathrooms are in a building 75 yards from the docks; they are clean and spacious. Washer dryer on site.

The ocean and a great beach is about 1/8 th of a mile away.

There is a fabulous fresh fish/seaford market 100 yards away next to the Hardy's. Sea food right off the boat at very low prices.

Everything else is closer. Shopping, IGA, and a convenience store.

Numerous restaurants populate the area.

Dock hand Hunter was friendly and courteous. They appeared at the slip we were assigned at the very last second, on and by the way there was a boat in the slip that needed to be moved. Thank God winds were light. Not a lot of room to manuver in the 'fairway'.

Their rate is HIGH at $2.00 per foot, but no charge for electric.

No discounts of any kind.

poor marina, 2011-05-06
Captain: , canada (10)

Expensive marina.....service is sososososs!
Canadian boater take care...2$/foot too much for that place

Watch Those Signs, 2011-03-15
Captain: , Cobbs creek va (193)

Two signs mark entrence, though marked red and green, from bridge you don't see signs until too late. Bulked south side of channel looks good but ONLY ENTER BETWEEN SIGNS. A bit pricey and facilities a bit sparten, but close to lots of neat stuff.

Nice facility near beach, 2010-12-08
Captain: , Stuart, FL (426)

Nice place two block from beach - lot's of bars and restaurants. A little pricey for what you get.

Nice Place to Stop, 2010-11-02
Captain: , Mattituck, NY. (391)

Easy in and out, right at the Surf City Bridge for early departure. Lots of shops and restaurants. Walk to the beach, lots to do while here.

Nice Place For What It Is, 2010-10-21
Captain: , Between Boats, USA (623)

We have stayed here once. It's kind of a hole, but it's good. Bathrooms were iffy and certainly not worth the price, but the stroll into downtown was great. Close to the beach and that's good enough for us. Close to the busy road and that's not so good, but it died after 10pm anyway. Great wine store nearby. Hoping to stay there again in the near future.

Great Stop for the night., 2010-10-15
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

Do not know why Captain Jo ranked it one star after reading how he liked the place. yes, too pricy at $2, but given the location and they do not cater to transients, having only 4 slips, I guess it is worth it. Staff is near perfect, offering to take us to stores..... Fun place for 2-3 days. Beach is great. Going south, easy to time the bridge opening the enxt morning.

Overpriced, 2010-10-11
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (50)

Convenient access from the ICW. Easy in and out transient slips. Good protection; minimal wakes. Bathrooms are shabby and dirty. Overpriced at $2.00/ft. (which does include electricity).
p.s. - We do NOT recommend Buddy's restaurant!

Beach Time, 2009-09-08
Captain: , Chattanooga (327)

Can't get much closer to the Beach than this, as well as proximity to boat supplies and provisions. Good restaurants and seafood markets a short walk. Fun place.

Love this place, 2009-07-04
Captain: , Fort Myers (769)

Smallish facility but lots of heart. The staff was great. The marina has first rate docks and hook ups. There are lots of restaurants and shops all within walking distance. We will definitely be coming back. Had 7.5 feet of water all the way in. Go slow as channel in narrow.

Neat Place to stop, 2009-06-13
Captain: , clear lake texas (435)

We saw 9' under us at hi tide. we draw 5.5' This is a neat town we can walk to the beach and there is a Dairy Queen 50yds in front of us, as well as a lot of places to eat and drink. Price is cheap 1.65/ft, it is just a floating dock and fuel. Had four dock hands help tie up. No wave action. We may stay longer then we had planed. The Surf City bridge only opens on the hour. Will not eat at Indigo Marsh again, Expensive, stakes sucked!

Beach House, 2009-04-17
Captain: , Whitehall, Mi (1754)

Nice stop, lots of stuff within walking distance.

Great Expectations - 12/20/08, 2008-12-20
Captain: , Holland, MI (116)

Small marine but has everything nearby; even great Atlantic ocean beaches. Call in advance to be sure there are slips availible since it is a small marina.

Great little marina, 2008-11-05
Captain: , Havre de Grace (119)

Close to ICW and Surf City Bridge. Groceries, restaurants and fresh seafood a block away. Batts Grill, a nearby greasy spoon serves good food and is inexpensive. Minimal shower facility.

great area, 2008-09-25
Captain: , Jacksonville Florida (125)

I really love this location walking distance to restaurants, grocery store and fishing pier. Very well stocked marine supply store across the street. They have only 3 slips designated for transiets but are redoing the docks this winter so they may add more. Very nice staff.

Great Marina, 2007-09-26
Captain: , Wilmington NC (24)

Has all amenities either on site, or within walking distance. My first stay 9/22/07, but will definitely be going back.

A great little marina!, 2007-04-24
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (120)

We have stayed here numerous times going up and down the ICW. It is a very protected area. Everything is nearby - grocery store, post office, restaurants, drug store and shops. The beach is two blocks east. They may not answer their VHF so go on in. Limited slips but can accomodate 70 ft. on fuel dock.
