Barkers Island Marina 070117, 2017-07-02
Captain: , Transient - Plymouth, Mi (811)

Very good marina. It was about full of mostl sail boats due to the local annual race around the Apostle Islands. Good weekend!! Docks are very well kept and grounds are clean. Great restaurant!

GREAT MARINA, 2016-09-22

Barker's Is, 2016-01-07
Captain: , Duluth (71)

Good quality Marina. Friendly dock and service staff. Stayed here on several occasions for 1-3 days. Dog friendly. Nice bathroom and reasonable shower facilities. Transient slips usually available. Have had simple and complex repairs and upgrades completed here. Probably the most competent and complete service department on this end of the lake. Better service and nicer facilities than Duluth marinas but a little further to amenities.

Great Marina, 2015-09-08

Nice people, clean facilities, clothes washer and dryer worked great. Bike path and Bong WWII museum is close by. The down side is the Marina is away from most everything else.

good alternative to Duluth, 2014-08-19
Captain: , Naples, FL (1096)

As a transient, we found staff to be friendly and the manager especially was welcoming. Good power, water and solid docks. Restrooms were ok but probably should be marked for updating. Geese loved the docks but they were power washed each morning. Only two downsides were the laundry facilities and distance from shopping. The sole washer was broken. Fortunately Enterprise had great rates. The dockage and car rental combined cost about the same as the dockage at the transient marina in a Duluth. Enterprise does not work on weekends in Superior. Do not miss going to Superior Meats on Tower St. Maytag has a great laundromat at 1720 Superior. There is a new SuperOne grocery store about one mile plus south of the marina.

Good Service, Very Pricey, 2013-06-17
Captain: , Pultneyville, NY (852)

Purchased my boat from someone who docked at the marina. Diesel engines needed work so the marina called in the local Cat service shop. Paid $9k to the Cat dealer and then the marina marked up the price $2.5k for letting the Cat guy on the grounds. No value-add from the marina to justify the tremendous uplift in the price. Avoid this marina if you need diesel repairs.

Best Marina on South Shore of Lake Superior, 2013-06-13
Captain: , Brisbane, Australia (399)

June, 2013 Update: We have now transited the entire south shore of Lake Superior and can safely say this is, by far the best full service marina. The facilities are outstanding. You can buy almost anything you need for your boat. The boat repair and mechanical staff can make any repair on your boat. We miss it! Joe Ratdke, the manager, deserves a pat on the back.

These guys can do anything for your boat and Joe Radke, the manager and very experienced Lake Superior sailor, will go out of his way to help you. Very clean and well maintained marina. If you are looking for a bargain, you should probably go elsewhere, but for high quality work and professionalism this is the best place in the area. Many serious Lake Superior sailors use this marina as their home base.

Barker's Island Marina, 2011-01-13
Captain: , Barkers Island (13)

I'm a native Duluthian and lived there for 20 years. I've docked by sailboat at Barker's Island Marina for the past 8 years. This is a very clean, well maintained, and friendly marina. Most of the employees will know you by first name after the first year or two. The sailing is good for day sailing. I like it because there is a lot for my family to do around the bay with many festivals. It's nice to anchor next to the Duluth Bayfront Festival grounds to listen to the music, bar-b-que, and people watch. I enjoy seeing the international ships that go in and out of the canal. There are many well protected anchorages in the bay and up the St. Louis river. This part of the lake is not a good base for frequent multi-day cruises. The Apostle Islands is a better base if you like more than 3 days on the water.

great fiberglass shop, 2010-11-16
Captain: , Bayfield WI, USA (742)

If you need fiberglass work done, this is the best place on the west side of the lake. They have added in-hull bow sprits to two boats I know, and the quality of the work is superb.

Cadillac of local marinas, 2009-06-22
Captain: , Boston, MA (172)

If you can't get it at Barkers, you don't need it. But you'll also pay the highest local prices, and it's run by a management company rather than a local owner (the marina is actually owned by the City of Superior.)
