Reviews for Barber Marina
For longer term stays, read their contract carefully!, 2017-03-24
Captain: , Louisiana (554)

Visited this marina by car with the intention to bring our boat for a month stay. Earlier reviews are true.
For anything longer than a transient visit, they want a signed contract, to which they will not negotiate any changes. Insurance section of contract says, in part, "Owner shall cause its insurance carriers to waive their respective rights of subrogation..." There are precious few, if any, companies which will waive their right of subrogation, so if an owner signs the contract without passing it by their insurance agent, the owner has just personally assumed a huge insurance risk.

Great Marina, 2016-09-14
Captain: , Monroeville, AL (151)

fantastic, newly constructed marina.... very large for this area. Adequate ships store. Very helpful staff. Facilities clean and very well maintained. Depth shouldnt be a concern - never saw less than 12' on approach.

Gorgeous, peaceful and convenient, 2016-09-11
Captain: , Port Aransas, TX (1344)

Stayed 1 night and enjoyed our stay. Donna in ship's store was friendly and helpful. No one on duty after 4 to help tie up, but we didn't need help. Tied up in slip exposed to entrance, so we had some wakes from ICW traffic, but not too bad. Plenty of depth for our 6' draft. Some live aboards - friendly and helpful. Gorgeous grounds - dog heaven! Acres and acres of manicured landscaping interspersed with woods. Statues everywhere, even in the woods. Large ornate fountain and helipad at marina entrance. Didn't use boat yard, shower or laundry, but all looked first class. No courtesy car available at this time. $10 charge for power applies to any stay up to 7 days (not prorated). Good Wifi signal with our booster.

Nice Place----Takes a little getting used to., 2016-09-03
Captain: , USA,USA (81)

They don't take credit cards! Except forTransients. Check or bank draft. With the dolphin cruises coming by it is so rolly I have had things knocked onto the floor in the cabin. . Did I mention this place is in the middle of nowhere? They are really nice. Wi Fi is free but sporadic. At times(a lot) unusable. Fuel Prices are higher then they should be given the current price elsewhere. Did I mention it is pretty here? NO COURTSEY CAR! Can't get a cab or an Uber because marina is on the wrong side of the ICW and in the middle of nowhere.

Very nice Marina!, 2016-05-15
Captain: , Illinois (2471)

No 30 amp. service!
No adapters to loan either. The power post has 110v receptors but evidently they are not hooked up. So,our stay here was without electricity except for brief running our generator.
Very clean overall. Great reasonable priced laundry. Only one shower but probably most patrons have their own on board.
Good slip rates will have us visiting again.

Beautiful and fun marina!, 2015-04-06
Captain: , Deer Lodge, MT (329)

We stayed here from Dec. 2, 2014 until Mar. 3, 2015. We were only going to stay for a short while but wound up taking care of boat projects. We very much enjoyed the staff and folks at Barber.....beautiful marina with wonderful bathrooms and laundry facility. Had to haul out our boat and found their prices very reasonable. They did take our credit problems.....and the courtesy car cost the gas you use + a $1 charge per gallon, which averaged around $22 for a round trip into Foley shopping for the day. One complaint is the occasional rolling swells that rocked our boat pretty severely from inconsiderate boaters and the second one is the isolation of the marina. We loved Puff, the marina cat, and enjoyed all the fun personalities of the workers at Barber, esp. Hanna. Thanx!

NOT SO HELPFUL, 2015-02-24
Captain: , New Bern, NC (466)

We decided to spend the night here after refueling. The lad who was the dockhand was super. Very helpful and courteous. His attitude towards customer service matches the high quality of the marina. Likewise, Ann, who was at the desk when I paid for fuel and a night%u2019s stay was equally helpful. On the other hand, the individual at the desk when I returned to buy 12 feet of hose, was just the opposite. When I asked for the price on the hose he said it was on the box. It wasn%u2019t so pointing that out to him got the response, %u201CI%u2019ll have to scan it.%u201D He didn%u2019t move to take care of doing that and told me that I%u2019d have to bring it to him as, %u201CThe Mountain must come to Mohamad.%u201D I dragged the crate to the desk and told him to cut me a 12 foot length. He then proceeded to try to measure the hose using a key chain. I pointed out that the measurement was marked on the hose, but he ignored me. I pulled a tape measure out and he still ignored me. By then I was getting more than a little heated. It took him four tries to get it right and he had to ask for help from another employee. I don%u2019t know who this idiot is but he was at the desk Monday night 2-23-15 just before 1600. His poor and insulting attitude had deleterious impact on what would have been a pleasant stay at a fine marina.

Enjoyed and will visit again, 2015-02-15
Captain: , Charleston, SC (60)

Very professional marina and yard. We have enjoyed our stay and will certainly visit again in the future.

Update: We ended up staying here for 5 months. The biggest complaint that we hear is the distance to town. There are a ton of back roads and you can get pretty anywhere within 20 minutes. Do watch out for deer at night. Great facility that we will certainly visit again one day.

Nice marina, 2014-11-02
Captain: , Chicago, Racine, Fish Creek,Wi (3163)

Received recomendation to stay at this marina. Very helpful and friendly staff. Very nice facility, showers, laundry, and ships store. Reasonable rates on easy access slips. We thought fuel price was a little high for diesel though. If I pass this way again would definately stay here.

Wonderful marina, 2014-03-26
Captain: , Ruskin, FL (330)

Limped into this marina with serious problem. They welcomed us, arranged a haul out first thing the following morning; quickly identified the problem and the part to fix it and got me back in the water under two hours. Provided a courtesy car. Clean facilities, very professional service. Highly recommend this as a stop. Prices were competitive with others. Hanna and Zack were very helpful and professional. Next trip...I am stopping.

Great boat yard, beautiful docks, 2013-09-02
Captain: , Orange Beach, AL (356)

Needed a haul out with very little notice. They were very professional and accommodating

Great Boat Yard, 2013-05-25
Captain: , Gulf Shores Alabama (748)

This marina has a top notch boat yard with up to 150 ton travel-lift. It is the site of the Hatteras regional repair yard and has the best in service and capabilities. I was a little bit intimidated that they might not want my old 42 ft sailboat among the new 70 foot Hatterasses, but they didn't care and took my money anyway. They did a great job and I will go back next time for my bott om work. The prices are very compatible with other yards in the area and they will let you come in yourself and do any of the work you need to do while they are doing their part.

Free water!, 2013-05-16
Captain: , Bay St. Louis, MS (734)

We called Barber Marina to see how much it would cost for us to come in and fill our water tank, and was told there would be no charge! Very nice of them! It did give us a chance to see some of their facilities, and they are first rate. This is a fairly new marina, and everything is in tip top shape. After leaving, one of the dock boys hopped in a boat and followed us to our anchorage. He was just curious about our boat, and wanted to ask what it was. My wife was chatting with him, and mentioned that we had wanted to dispose of some trash, but had forgotten to. He offered to take it back to the marina in put it in their dumpster. Great service and we were not even paying customers! We will plan on spending a night or two here on our next trip through.

Newer facility, 2013-03-13
Captain: , Charleston, SC (344)

In excellent condition. Showers are great. No food or shopping anywhere close. Must have a car.

Staff is generally on the ball. Careful about the line items on your invoices tho or you will get taken if you have work done.

One Beautiful Place you have to see, 2013-02-05
Captain: , Kuttawa Kentucky (410)

Stayed here 2 months on my way down the Intracoastal. Staff at this marina are first class and can assist your any needs. The grounds are world class. The little town of Elberta has a nice grocery store and meat market. A small hardware store that has about anything you need. The town of Foley is not that far away and if you take the hiway 20 you can be there in minutes. Would stay here again. Peaceful, dolpins everywhere, felt at home. Thanks Hana, Mark, Lee, Matt

Barber Marina is good, 2012-11-27
Captain: , New Orleans (70)

This is an ultra modern marina with everything except restaurants, hardware stores or groceries within walking distance. Expect priciness as everything is charged separately. The marina is beautiful but has yet to develop more personal character since there aren't that many boats in it and few transients. All in all good service and location.

AAA Rated Marina, 2012-11-12
Captain: , Niceville (61)

Very impressive marina. Pleasant staff. The only problem is that it is remote. Had them paint my bottom and polish hull and they did a good job.

Upscaale facility, 2012-07-24
Captain: , charleston (771)

This marina was recommended by a local when asked about where to get some boat repairs done. The facility is first rate. Beautiful grounds add to the charm. Only draw back is that it is isolated from everything however courtesy car is available. Friendly, helpful staff

A surprise marina, 2012-03-25
Captain: , Houghton, MI (156)

We were anchored in Ingrim Bayou right next door and needed we came in and were pleasently surprised at how nice people were. Showers rate a 10 !! The grounds are unbelievable !! The people we met here are all really nice. Wonderful place, will stop again in the fall.

New and nice, 2011-11-26
Captain: , Murfreesboro, TN (360)

Just off the ICW. New and very nice. Not close to anything but a curtesy car is avil. Staff are very helpful and nice. Grounds and building are upscale.

First Class Marina, top notch staff, without first class prices., 2011-09-26
Captain: , Crestview, FL (170)

We docked here after dark on August 26, 2011. Approaching the marina, the first sign of what a class act this marina is was the lighted private channel markers. After docking we went to the clubhouse and met one of the local live aboard tenants. He told us we should talk to the security guard about which slip to use. Andrew the security guard was extremely helpful, and got us settled into one of the slips near the backside of the marina. He also showed us all around the facilities, and even made change so that we could get cold sodas from the soda machine. On our long %u201Cboat move%u201D from Kemah Texas to Destin, we had docked afterhours at other facilities without any assistance or guidance, so Andrew%u2019s help was a pleasant surprise. The only way to describe the yacht basin and facilities is to compare it to a very nice college campus or municipal library. The restroom and showers were clean and fully equipped, including laundry facilities. The clubhouse has an awesome collection of antique outboards, and crab chairs that you just have to see to appreciate. We didn%u2019t need any of the repair facilities, but they appeared to be first class as well. The marina now offers a courtesy car, so there is no excuse to miss the thrown rolls at Lambert%u2019s Café in nearby Foley Alabama. We like this marina so much, that we stayed an extra two days beyond the one day we originally planned to stay. This is a hard marina to sail away from.

The patagonia of the icw, 2011-06-18
Captain: , MS Sound (284)

Very nice and clean marina. Had the unfortunate need for their repair facility. The staff very courteous and helpful. Took two days to realize repairs awaiting parts. Work was top notch and the price more than fair. But this is nowhere land, absolutley nothing around. Kids did enjoy the dinos and they have a very nice collection of beautifully refurbished antique outboards.

Beautiful Marina but nothing around, 2011-06-08
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (390)

This is a beautiful well protected marina. The only problem is it's in the middle of nowhere and there is nothing around. There is not a restaraunt or bar within a reasonable distance. But it is a great facility.

Beautiful facility, 2011-02-12
Captain: , Orange Beach, AL (293)

Great facility, Top notch boat yard. Floating Docks, only down side of docks is south wind exposure (summer storms, hurricanes) as well as only a few ramps to access docks, no restaurant and nothing near marina for food/drink other than dockstore. The dockstore however does have almost everything you would need boat yard wise.

Marina yard top notch, 2011-02-02
Captain: , Jensen Beach FL (138)

We had the unfortunate experience to need the repair facilities at this yard and were very please with the outcome. We hit a log in the GICW and bent the prop and had to have the rudder dropped and repacked. The yard did a top notch job all around at a fair price. These facilities are in the middle of nowhere but are in top condition. They are getting a coutesy car which will be a big improvement. They do need to add more facilities on the other side of the yard, it can be a long walk to the main building.

Interesting stop, 2010-12-02
Captain: , Temple Terrace, FL (234)

Interesting but isolated stop. Physical facility--docks, buildings, haul out, showers--top knotch. Rural area no restaurant or other services within walking distance. Enterprise car rental delivered rental. Antique outboard motor collection in marina office worth a look. About 50 outboards, 50+ years old, restored to new condition.

Nice, new facility built in 2009., 2010-09-03
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (184)

This is a beautiful, isolated marina located on ~10,000 acres with nothing else....except a few dinasours iin the woods and other eclectic art. There is signifigant spider problem. Dolphins soften swim in the marina. A good deal of boat action due to lack of breakwater. Long hike to a single restroom. No ramps (only stairs) to piers which is inconvenient when loading/unloading a cart.
