Reviews for Bar Harbor Municipal Marina
Rocked and Rolled all night, 2015-08-21
Captain: , Barrington, NH (283)

While the harbormaster was very helpful on the phone, you don't get much for the $35 mooring fee, not even get a shower. It's quite exposed and was very uncomfortable on a mooring ball. We didn't sleep much all night and were up for good at 4:00 a.m. due to the wakes from early rising small commerical boats. Recommend going behind the Sand Bar to the College of the Atlantic to anchor or pick up a mooring.

A busy commercial port, 2012-09-15
Captain: , Cassiopea A (507)

This harbor is really not oriented to serving a small boat cruising sailor. The harbor is busy with tour boats and commercial fishing vessels coming and going all day. Even though the breakwater offers reasonable protection from the south, the wakes left by the commercial traffic are enough to make you seasick. The town dinghy dock is packed with rugged skiffs used by the commercial interests. There are no showers, ice, or fuel. (Note: apparently there is fuel and ice available at one of the commercial docks.) If you want to see the town, use one of the other harbors on Mount Desert as a base and take the Island Explorer bus.

Not a good anchorage, 2012-07-30
Captain: , Newport (404)

As the prior reviewers noted this harbor is just not a good destination for cruising boats. We came here to leave our boat for a week and so it is fine as we will not be aboard. There is constant motion from wakes, and swells making for a very unpleasant constant motion.

The Harbormaster is a good guy, and has been helpful to us. Fuel at Harbor Place is $4.11 on July 28, 2012, but you have wait for the ferries to clear the dock to get it. The mooring is $40 a night and since we need 7 nights, they gave us one night free.

Suggest you consider this a day stop for taking in the town which is of course a big tourist destination chock full of eateries, and shops.

Easy In/Out, 2010-10-16

Great location and safe dockage, even though some waking can occur. We enjoyed out stay and facilities are normal for a municipality
