Reviews for Banana Bay Resort and Marina
Nice docks and good location, 2016-06-29
Captain: , Delray Beach, Fl (60)

This is a small marina with very nice docks. Pool, hot tub and tennis courts available, but not sure about other facilities like showers and laundry. A good number of liveaboards who are very friendly. The location is excellent! Walking distance to restaurants, grocery, drug and other types of stores. Good ice cream store about 1/4 mile west of the marina. We plan to return when in the area.

A bit disorganized, 2016-01-02
Captain: , Fort Myers (749)

Banana Bay is going through a bit of influx. They have had new owners who have been concentrating on updating the hotel portion of the grounds. As a result, the marina has suffered.

The docks are in fine shape but the restrooms, pool and laundry are in dire need of fixing. There is a dirt parking lot (used to be paved) in front of the slips that provides dust to your boat with any car traffic or significant wind. It turns to mud when it rains.

The internet is spotty but hey, this is the Keys...

The grounds are becoming overgrown and the pool, while large and nice needs to be updated (and cleaned more often).

A few years ago Banana Bay was the nicest marina in Marathon. I hope they can bring it back to the way it once was. For now, lots work needs to be done.

There was availability, 2015-12-29
Captain: , Buffalo (832)

We lucked out; we wanted to find a Marina for two days to water up and do some provisioning and they had an open slip. With all the shopping available, and the pool, it made sense for us to spend three nights before continuing toward Key West. Most of the cruisers here are long timers that stay for the entire winter season and the monthly rates are good. We paid $2.50 a night, which was about the norm, or even a little less. Not a yard with any professional help. The staff is nice, but they are not experienced in running a marina. We never used the bathrooms or showers, but the laundry facilities were okay.

Banana bay resort marina, 2015-03-15
Captain: , yellow springs (10)

Heads & showers marginal, restaurant closed, no dock master on weekends, changing ownership and a bit disorganized, docks ok...

nice mid key location, 2015-02-02
Captain: , Holland (270)

we stayed here for 12 days. the rate for this length of stay was very competitive and we really enjoyed the pool and hot tub. the heads and showers were clean and the laundry facilities were nice. there is a diy pump out. this is a small marina and the other slips were filled with seasonal live a boards who were friendly and welcoming. the location is near many of the local restaurants and bars. if there was fuel we did not see it. this may have been due to the fact that we did not need fuel and we were not looking for it. this was one of those locations that we were kind of sad to leave.

Great place to stop on the gulf side, 2014-08-11
Captain: , philadelphia (440)

We'd never stayed in a marina before and the dockmaster and liveaboard around there couldn't have been more helpful. Plus good facilities, easy access to West Marine, etc. This marina is definitely worth a stay.

Welcome stop in Marathon, 2014-08-09
Captain: , Ottawa (30)

Despite the location on a major highway, it better located than we origionally thought. Restaurants and bars are very close by and the hardware store is a short walk over the road.
The marina is quiet, probably due to change of ownership, but there was a nice breeze at night at the end of the dock. Dockside services were great and wasrhooms were fine, but basic.
The pool was awesome and we enjoyed our visit.
Thanks!

Best marina in Marathon, 2014-04-30
Captain: , Dallas Tx (539)

2014 Update, Banana Bay Resort and Marina was in recivership, but now has a new owner. Plans include renovating the resort buildings, rebuild the pool area, and building new bathrooms/showers for the marina.

We have made the rounds of the other marinas and Banana Bay is still the best marina in Marathon.
Clean, well maintained, friendly, and buried in lush tropical vegetation; Banana Bay is a beautiful marina/resort in a great location. There is a nightly gathering on the beach to watch the sunset over Florida Bay. Due to its great harbor and low key, kick back life style; Marathon has the greatest collection of sailors and cruisers in the Keys. The middle Keys attract many excellent musicians who appear nightly at the numerous restaurants and bars around the city. If you dont have one, rent a bike and you can explore the entire key. Bus transportation to and from Key West is readily available and a lot less expensive than a Key West Marina. Marathon is our favorite destination, we return for a month every spring.

Excellent Service and attention to maintenance, 2013-04-10
Captain: , New Jersey (20)

This marina and resort trys very hard to provide a quality facility and SUCCEEDS!

A New Favorite, 2013-04-08
Captain: , Clearwater, FL (40)

Nice little marina. Good protection. Rode out a pretty nasty squall (even had hail) and felt extremely comfortable. Very nice facilities, pool, tiki bar. Home Depot right across the street. Capt. Larry the dockmaster could not have been more accommodating. Excellent stop over.

Our favorite spot, 2013-02-11
Captain: , Stony Point, NY (852)

We came in thinking we would stay 2 nights and move into Boot Key harbor. As soon as we arrived we said - we could stay longer. Stayed 2 weeks, and would have stayed longer if they had a slip for us. A small, friendly group of boaters, many of whom are there for the winter, welcomed us and made us feel very welcome. Dockmaster Larry is great and will help with anything you need (as will many of the boaters). Beautiful sceenery, and every evening the group gathers to socialize and watch the sunset. Excellent bike/walking access to all that Marathon has to offer. Cab rides for $5. Pool, picnic area, nice grounds, gulf side swimming, kayaking and dingh rides.

awesome place to stay, 2012-12-29
Captain: , Oriental (321)

Dockmaster extremely friendly and just a really good person in general. The long term boaters were also very nice. Dockage fee includes access to pool & jacuzzi, sweet.

Nice marine in the middle of everything, 2012-10-30
Captain: , Ft. Pierce FL. (208)

This is a small marina, a couple dozen boats. It's attached to a "resort". Larry the dockmaster cannot do enough. After paying 3.00 per foot 2.00 per foot seemed like a bargain. It's centrally located and with 5.00 taxi, everything is at your disposal. We are extending our stay.

Entrance to Marina - difficult, 2012-07-26
Captain: , New Hamburg, NY (140)

The marina itself is adequate, but noisy on the weekends. Channel is poorly marked and should be approached with local knowledge.

Marina & entry channel July 1, 2012, 2012-07-04
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (144)

We draft 5' at the prop tips & must be very careful. Entry to Banana Bay must be done at high tide maybe an hour either side. South of ICW marker 19 set course for 200' north of Pretty Joe Rock. Past PJ Rock head for entry channel marker 2. Outside of the marker is a hump, be careful here. Past 2 you're OK.

First time cruisers luck out, 2012-05-12
Captain: , Stuart Florida (280)

As first time cruisers to the Keys we were pleasently suprised at finding a great little place to call home for awhile. Capt. Larry has gone above and beyond to make us feel safe and welcomed. As others have said, everything is close by, grocery, eats, parks, you name it. They were able to take our 5ft draft with no issues. Marina is spotless and people are friendly So far this has been a great "first marina experance" in the Keys.

Great Destination, 2012-03-04
Captain: , Portsmouth, NH (274)

Banana Bay Marina is a small well maintained marina with all the ammenities. There is a nice size pool and lounge chairs along the water with palms for shade to do some serious relaxing.
The boater's laundry has been updated this year with an additional washing machine. Each slip has a convenient pumpout connecton. WiFi is now available.
The Dockmaster, Larry Wade, is very helpful and accessable. There is aslo a boat rental operation on site for kayaks, small fishing boats and jet skis. Publix and Winn Dixie are a 10 minute walk along Rt 1. Reliable bus service to Key West is available.
We couldn't ask for a better location.

The GEM of Marathon, 2011-09-05
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (639)

What a wonderful resort destination. New docks are great. The pool is huge and has a Tiki Bar with entertainment on occasion. Right across the street from Home Depot - it doeesn't get much better than this. Several good restaurants and grocery store nearby. This is our go-to place in Marathon.

RELAXING MARINA, 2011-08-21
Captain: , Ruskin FL (10)

We docked our 40 foot Carver at Banana Bay Resort and Marina for the month of July. Captain Larry Wade the dock master did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable including personally checking with us on a daily basis. While docked at the Marina we had full use of the resort facilities. We mainly used the pool and tiki bar. They have (4) nice clean showers, laundry room, boaters lounge, and dockside pumpout. Free internet service was strong throughout marina. Home Depot, Publix, Walgreen, and good restaurants are within walking distance. West Marine and rental cars are within 2 miles. The Resort extends special room rates at the resort for Marina customers. We took advantage of this to have family visit with us. We plan on returning next summer.

Sea Biscuit travels, 2011-05-30
Captain: , Daytona Beach, Fl. (10)

Discovered Banana Bay two years ago and made it my destination of choice. Capt Larry (Dockmaster) is the GO TO GUY and aims to please. The restaurant has recently closed but the Tiki Bar features entertainment by the pool. Lovely tropical setting and lots of salty characters like Capt. Bob from Dallas. The new docks and finger piers are excellent, 30 or 50 amp power, cable tv and slip side pump out. Marina is centrally located to all of Marathon and folding travel bikes are recommended.

Great Location, 2011-04-13
Captain: , Orange Beach (70)

We stayed two nights going to Key West and a week on our return trip. Loved the location. They charge $7.00 resort charge in addition to per foot price. Well worth it included wi fi, ice and pool access. Showers need some updates but were clean.

Great Place and Location, 2011-02-28
Captain: , Cleveland (2083)

We just spend a month at Banana Bay and totally loved it. Georgeous sunsets on the bayside, tropical grounds, nice pool and hot tub. We ate at the restaurant several times and found the food to be very good - especially for the price. How do you beat $3.99 for cheesburger (cooked rare if you want!) and fries?

Have already made reservation to return next year - Captain Larry aims to please.

worst restaurant service, 2011-02-26
Captain: , Cincinnati (1810)

This is the worst place that we have ever tried to eat ever. 2 and a half hours to get a hamburger, no check for drinks after the first round, had to go and ask for bill, and VERY discourteous waitress. The only remedy for this place is to fire eveyone and start over. I gave it one star because no star is not an option.

Excellent marina, 2011-02-02
Captain: , Stuart FL (835)

We reseved the month of Feb (2011) here. The marina is small but easy in/out with fixed docks. Harbormaster Larry Wade is very compentent and obviously wants all to be OK. Monthly rate includes water, electricity, pumpout aned even bath towels!! Has WiFi swimming pool and cheap taxi's in Marathon. We have already made resevations for next year for 3 months instead of one. Highly recommed this marina

Small but nice, 2010-12-24
Captain: , Sarasota (1427)

Most previous comments accurate, except there is a restaurant again that does serve breakfast. Tiki bar appears to have a planned opening soon. Marina has taken steps to keep grass out. Very lovely setting. Can be a challenge to enter if you draw more than 6 ft.

June 17, 2010, 2010-06-27
Captain: , ft myers beach (790)

We stayed for two nights with three other boats. Docks are new and it is a pleasant place to stay. Capt Billy is gone, Capt Larry is the new guy and he wears many hats. No one was there to great us at our 1400 arrival despite radio and vhf calls. We were given slip assignments, so no problem as we had enough folks to handle lines. Pool water was warmer than Gulf and we only stayed in the pool due its proximately to the tiki bar. Will consider going back.

Be certain to mention the Waterway guide price of $2/ft or it will cost $3.50! Reasonable walk to most needs. Spent 4 days with 6 boats and will return.

Gulf side alternative, 2009-12-20
Captain: , Plattsmouth, Nebraska (130)

Home for the winter. After a month here we are pretty satisfied. The docks are very nice, and the showers/heads are clean. With the north winds the basin is about half full of sea grass which promises to smell to high heaven as it rots. The marina has a barrier to keep the grass out, but "it's broke". We had expected the resort to have a free breakfast, similar to Marina Del Mar at Key Largo, which is a great place to socialize, however the resturant franchisee went broke. Hope to see this revived soon. Lots of other places in walking distance, so it is not a major concern. Capt. Billy, the harbor master is very friendly and helpful. There is a large family of ducks on the docks which are being encouraged to stay. The docks get slippery (!) and bare feet are discouraged.

Nice Place, 2009-05-28
