Reviews for Baldwinsville Town Dock
Nice Place to Stop, 2016-09-23
Captain: , La Crosse, WI (627)

Self pay. $5 for power. Lockmaster is friendly and very helpful. Showers and restrooms were clean. These are also public use. Walk across the lock gate to get to the 25 cent showers in the amphitheater. Restaurant across the street from the lock with good food.

Be carefull on wall, 2016-09-17
Captain: , Catawba Island Ohio (530)

There is a low floater for 5 or 6 smaller boats and then a concrete wall maybe 3 feet high. About halfway down the wall is a rubber bumper with pieces missing. Where the pieces were missing there were bolts left sticking out of the wall in places, bad for fenders. Now the good. Place right next to lock where you and the misses can both get your hair cut or trimmed. Tell them we said hi. $5 for 30 amp. Restrooms and 25 cent showers at bud amphitheater if you don't like the porta pottys on site. Nice town with cool 50s style diner in town called B'ville Diner.

great spot with 50 A if you can find room, 2016-09-03
Captain: , Burlington, VT (80)

stayed 2 nights -no concert so wall was empty on Thursday pm. 50 A only on the high East wall, but dual 30A on the floating dock with cemetery view. No showers, washrooms comprised of 2 Porta potties -albeit spotless. Nice view of the community park/cemetery to NW, with the Bud amphitheater and island park directly across the canal. Only a short (<1/2 mile) walk NE across river to most amenities including liquor store, Dollar store, pharmacies and Ace hardware. 1. 4 miles W. to Tops supermarket! Inexpensive Ice available at the bridge cafe between 7:30 - 2:00. Reportedly good restaurants very close by.

Great Stop, 2016-07-30
Captain: , Seneca Lake NY (313)

Very nice stop - but frequently occupied by locals that bring their boats on Wed to be sure to have a spot for Fri & Sat concerts.
Enforcement of 48 hr rule is spotty at best
Additional wall w/o power available below the lock - still convenient but not as picturesque
2016 update... more spots available on wall above lock. I understand the concert schedule has been reduced and fewer locals leaving boats to reserve spots.

main docks full, 2016-07-05
Captain: , Fort Myers (700)

passing through on July 4 weekend and main wall was full. stayed at the new north wall just EAST
of lock, with no power or amenities, OTHER than horrible karaoke until 2am a mere 200 feet away.

Great stay, 2015-09-24
Captain: , Michigan City, IN, USA (210)

There is a higher wall and a low wall west of lock 24 on south side. It's a really nice place. Five dollars gets you 30 amp and water and ten dollars gets you 50 amp. Had a fabulous meal 50 yards away at Lock 24 Seafood & Deli - Mikaela was our wonderful waitress. Easy walk to north side of lock where the stores are. Liquor store within easy walk. Fast unsecured internet from Red Mill Inn. Felt safe and secure here. Nice town.

Great place, 2015-09-19
Captain: , Phoenix, NY (50)

One of our favorite places to stay. Plenty of shopping and restaurants. If you are lucky enough to be there you might see and hear live music

Labor Day Weekend, 2015, 2015-09-06
Captain: , Sarasota (110)

For us, this was a great place to stop. No crowds of local boaters (although the wall was full with transiants) and no problems with kids or noise. Police walked by once and a sign says the place is under video securtiy. Even though it was a holiday, no concert or other event was scheduled for the amphitheater just across the canal. One local thought that communities don't bother because the nearby state fair which draws all the people. We docked at the first available spot on the south wall at the west side of lock 24. $10/night for power (30/50am) & water...put the $ in an envelope and slip it in the box. Easy walk to town for hardware and a Dollar Store. We did not find a market in town. Many restaurants.

great facility but youths late at night, 2015-09-01
Captain: , Pittsburgh (513)

First rate facility with power, water and floating dock.

We were awoken by youths streaking along the floating dock. Guess it would have been funny 30 years ago!

Nice stop if you only need water and electric, 2015-08-20
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (940)

Floating docks were a nice change from other stops further west - but be careful on the aluminum ramp as it's starting to tilt towards the wall. Enjoyed hearing Big Head Todd on a Tuesday evening when they were playing at the amphitheater. Reprovisioned at the supermarket.

Good facility near town, 2015-08-09
Captain: , Pasadena, MD (1496)

We enjoyed Baldwinsville. The south wall has floating docks with shore power and water located on a higher retaining wall. Moderate walk to town, where there are pharmacy, hardware, auto parts and restaurant options. We did not observe locals tying up wall space, but assume that could happen. There are dockage options on the north wall, albeit without power and water. The dock location is public, and there are people who walk and picnic along the seawall. We had no security issues during our stay here. Note that on the south wall where the power stantions are, there are large trees with dense canopies that block satellite TV reception. Local over-the-air TV is available from the Syracuse area.

This was a nice city dock..., 2015-08-01
Captain: , Illinois (2444)

...and we will return. The dock and grounds were well kept. We enjoyed a walk into town and the restaurant near the docks. We didn't experience any adverse issues.

a good place to stop, 2015-07-30
Captain: , Oneida, NY (264)

I had no trouble finding a spot, though this dock can fill up if there's a show scheduled at paper mill island. good floating dock, power, water and a short walk to town. not bad for the price. might as well be free.

Baldwinsville Town Dock, 2015-07-29
Captain: , Lake Champlain (210)

Stopped today at 1:30, with the intent of staying for the night. A group of 6 kids turned into 12, swimming off the float between boats. The general mayhem escelated to the point they were climbing on unattended boats. When we hear the conversation change to stealing iPhones and iPads, we elected to move on. Skateboards down the ramp for the float. We had heard how nice this stop was, and the police patroled on a regular basis, but this was not our experience. You can draw your own conclusions, but we will not be back. Good luck!

Absolutely the Finest, 2015-07-02
Captain: , Charlevoix, MI (201)

You cannot beat the town and the people here. Only a fool would not stop. My choice for the best town wall on the Eric Canal!

Good stop on the canal, 2014-08-21
Captain: , Calgary (281)

Nice docking wall with power and water. No washrooms. Portapotties. Free internet at the library. Good restaurant at lock 24

Here again for the third time, 2014-07-11
Captain: , Key Largo (5330)

right at the center of all the action
They have added water at power stands
BAnd stand across waterway, walkable to town and stores.

Another great canal town, 2014-07-09
Captain: , Huron,OH - Little River, SC (630)

Hard to beat 30 and 50 amp service, places to replenish all your consumeables, and do your chores..... laundry, ice, propane (exchange), post office, WiFi. Porta Potties will be replaced with new showers and restrooms by next season. Regular foot patrols by police officers, and a dedicated Flower Lady to keep the place looking pristine. Hard to beat for $5 per night with 30 amp service. No fee if you do not use electrical service

Sunday night access, 2014-07-08
Captain: , Sandusky, Ohio (392)

We arrived later afternoon Sunday and found several slots available. All other boats tied up were cruisers like us. Good power and water available, porta potty on the dock nearby. Showers were across the canal on a penisula, but were closed for repairs this week. Good restaurants near by. Kind of rolly while the lock was in use, but settled down nicely in the evening. Grocery store 1.3 miles away west of the cemetaries.

Chancy Space, 2014-07-03
Captain: , New Bern, NC (30)

We liked the town and the docks were good.... but the locals use up most of the dock space with runabouts just to hold their private spot for the weekend or such. Seems this is a well known problem as we met several other boaters from other nearby towns who had the same concern. If you can get space, a very good spot to stop but don't plan on it. We were lucky arriving mid-day, mid-week and still had to take the last available space, and without power. The next two arrivals tied between the lock and the "don't tie between here and the lock sign" and we saw at least two other boats come in, look for space and leave. At least a half a dozen of the runabouts were covered and unused through the length of our stay.

Very nice stop - great restaurant, 2014-06-27
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1897)

Enjoyed staying here on the wall with 50 amp service. The local kids were running around all day being loud and swimming in the river which ran off a few boaters.
The local restaurant Lock 24 was excellent.
Lovely surroundings and clean.

Very nice stop, 2014-02-26
Captain: , Maryland Heights, MO (314)

Close to anything you'd need. Restaurants, grocery, laundry all within a few blocks. Would be perfect if there were restrooms.showers at the dock.

Super Place to Stop, 2013-11-13
Captain: , Prescott, Ontario (141)

Baldwinsville was a great stop. The local people were extremely friendly and accommodating. Everything is in close proximity to the docks, such as: groceries, liquor stores, numerous restaurants, drug stores, a marina (1mile east) etc. We were there during a hot spell and spent a good amount of time in the Baldwinsville Library where they had air conditioning and free WIFI and a staff of the most helpful people we have ever met. The free dockage and $5 power was a bonus. The showers can be found on the island in the amphitheater building where $.25 gets you into the one stall shower (no need to feed it any more money %u2026 not on a timer). The B%u2019ville Resturant was very good but the portions were gigantic.

Nice place to stop, 2013-07-30
Captain: , St. Catharines (498)

Awesome town dock. Electricty was $5 for 30amp service. They also ovver 20 and 50 amps. Free internet access at the cafe down the street, next to the bridge. Even when the cafe is closed, you can still get wifi at the bridge :) The folks at the welcome center we very friendly.

Another good stop, 2013-07-25
Captain: , Britt, Ontario (691)

A great wall to overnight on - dock is free, 30 amp power is $5. Located in a nicely treed park. Washrooms across the canal at amphitheatre.

Still a great place, 2013-07-13
Captain: , Louisville, KY (347)

The wall is still free, $5 for 30A electrics. Lock 24 restaurant is VERY good, the B'ville diner is a must. Same friendly people and businesses. Would be 5 stars if they had restrooms/showers at the wall instead of on the island. But the port-a-potties are clean and new.

Nice stop, good facility., 2012-08-23
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1520)

Another town that says "welcome boaters". Floating docks, 5 dollars for 30 amp, free water. Showers available across the water at ampatheater. Take quarters as you need them to acess shower stalls. Town has a great dinner with good food and reasonable prices just across the river.

Free town dock with $5 power and water, 2012-07-20
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (1476)

We tied up to the high wall, leaving the low floating docks for boats with a lower freeboard. Used a 30 amp plug for $5, and filled up with their water. Beautiful park running alongside the canal wall. Police presence was obvious and reoccuring, keeping an eye on the boats which is always reassuring. Had a great breakfast at the B'ville Diner, just a 5-10 minute walk away. Wall was full overnight, some boats were empty (locals?), while others were transients like us. A really nice stop in a pretty little town.

A 5 star Surprise, 2011-08-19
Captain: , Sandusky, OH (284)

We pulled in to a low floating dock. Had water and electricity for $5. Helpful boat neighbors helped us land. Visitor Center people directed us to all the places we needed within walking distance. Had dinner at Lock 24 Restaurant. A real treat. Thank you Baldwinsville for investing in your water front.

Wonderful Village with inexpensive dock, 2011-07-19
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

Great convenient stop $10 for 50 amp power $5 for 20/30 amp power no charge if no power. Bicycle to stores, many locals will offer rides to more distance stores. Free concerts at the Budweiser ampitheater across the canal. The only downside is the number of unoccupied local boats on the wall at power stations not hooked up. We were the only out of area cruiser. Cruiser from lthe finger lakes often come here. That said the overflow without services was empty.

Great Stop, 2011-06-13
Captain: , Stratford, CT (658)

We were pleased to see electric available for $5.00 30 AMP for 24 hours. Paymenet envelopes are available from a black metal box and payment goes back in there.
Dog friendly
The town is very cute and looks as if it is trying very hard to appear as if something is happening here-not as many empty stores, flowers planted all around town and buildings are freshly painted.
A number of restaurants are in easy walking distance of lock.

Nice Stop on the West Erie, 2011-06-10
Captain: , Annapolis (208)

A very nice stop and the addition of water and electrical power make it even better. But, as could be expected, the blow boats where docked at the 50 amp pedestals and were not hooked up to any power at all.

Town dock at lock 24, 2011-04-25
Captain: , Pensacola (307)

We usually stop here on every trip through the canal. Good Breakfast resturant across Bridge street.

I did catch someone trying to untie my dock lines one time. So I recommend putting the loop end of your dock lines through the rings onthe wall and leading the bitter end back to the cleat on your boat so they can't be untied. Many of the town walls along the Erie canal are open to pedestrian traffic with little security. Teens aparantly find it amusing to untie boats and it happens ocasionally.

Town dock and Restaurant Lock 24, 2010-09-26
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (745)

The town dock is great. No charge but, they do charge for electricity. $5.00 for 30 amp or $10.00 for 50 amp.

The restaurant Lock 24, however, while the food is pretty good and prices are reasonable, their smoking policy is terrible. They allow smokers to smoke at tables right outside the covered deck area. We had dinner there tonight and the smokers ruined an otherwise pleasant evening. The smoke does in fact drift into the dining area. The management made several excuses that they could not control the smokers or the smoke. New York law may say different but, the restaurant did not properly address the issue for us. If smokers and their smoke bother you, you might want to eat somewhere else. On our way east bound they had a concert in the Budweiser Park. Their west wall was full. We went through Lock 24 and stayed on the east side wall. Quite comfortable. No water or electric but, quite safe and still a short walk to stores and restaurants. And quieter on concert nights. All in all a good stop.

Great stop, 2010-09-08
Captain: , Geneva, NY (70)

As always, B'ville is a great stopping place. There is now water at the bases of the power stands. There is a Kinney Drugstore only a short walk into town, with not a bad "minimarket" array of food. Lockmaster can provide directions. B'ville is a convenient stop after coming across Oneida Lake -- once west of here, there are not many choices of places to stay.

Pleasant stop, 2010-07-21
Captain: , Westbrook, CT (296)

The 50A and 30A power are new since our last visit. Live entertainment in ampitheater across the canal on Thursday nite. No heads or showers. A few trash cans in park and 5 picnic tables along 1000 feet of wall. Nice place to stop.

Wonderful little town and great docks, 2010-06-29
Captain: , Newport, RI (10275)

Out of all of the towns that we've stopped in, B-ville (as the locals call it), is one of our favorites. The whole town seems to be well kept without a lot of the decay that other towns have shown.

There are many restaurants in the area and there are quite a few shops. We didn't find a grocery store, but then again we weren't lookings.

Be sure to stop by the lock and talk to the tender. This was the original lock which used tunnels to supply/drain water without opening the lock doors. If you're nice, the tender may show you the motors, controls, gears and valves for the lock. It was really cool.

Power is $5/30A and $10/50A. There's a box located along the dock with envelopes that you fill out and place in the drop box.

I've also found multiple open Internet access points with good connectivity.

Great Stop, 2009-12-19
Captain: , Lake Livingston, TX (258)

As many places on the Erie, needs more floating docks - but the place is great. Good summer concert entertainment.

Good place to stop for a night., 2009-12-19
Captain: , Mullica Hill, NJ (688)

Stopped there in late August and mid September. There was no charge for power at that time (we checked with the visitors center and police). Tried the nearby restaurant - it was just O.K. there was a restaurant accross the canal that advertised all you can eat pasta with salad for a really low price. We were not in the mood so did not try it.
We will stop again when we pass by next time.
There are heads and showers accross the lock which you can cross after the locks close or check with the lockmaster. The showers have a 25 cent entry fee. the heads are the public restrooms for the ampitheatre. We did not try them so do not know the condition.

Baldwinsvolle Town Dock, 2009-08-27
Captain: , Patterson, La (1441)

First rate, the lady in the Visitor hut said "probably" no charge for the dock nor electricity. No one has shown up to collect.
This is our second stay here good eats nearby as well as a Catholic church with in walking distance.

New power pedestals, 2009-08-12
Captain: , St Louis (671)

Baldwinsville has added 11 power pedestals to their town wall, 7 pedestals along the wall have 2x 50amp, 2x 30amp and a single 20amp duplex outlets; 6 pedestals along the floating dock section have 2x 30amp and 2x 20amp duplex outlets. All pedestals have 2 water faucets but as of this date they have not been hooked up yet. Town is now charging $5/night for 30amp and $10/night for 50amp service. Pay at the Visitor Center Booth adjacent to the wall.

Summer concert series in the amphitheater just across the canal and several restaurants close by including Lock 24 Restaurant next to the wall.

Easy Access West of Lock 24, 2009-08-12
Captain: , Aquia Harbour, VA (1177)

Wall and floating dock in good condition. Power posts just added. We docked after Visitor's Center closed. No signs so we assumed that there was no charge for power. Police patrol the area.
