Additional info:

Approach

Fairly straight forward, the approach can be spotted some distance away, a large white factory building is close to the north pier. Arklow Bank is also easily spotted by the wind turbines installed on the banks.

Entry will be difficult in a NE wind, is wind above F6, it would be wise to avoid entry. A swell can build up between the breakwaters, so allow for this to avoid touching bottom. Best to wait for at least half tide. On an ebb tide, the tide sets SE across the breakwater entrance.

Tide & current additional info

Tide can run up to 3 knots. Take care on the ebb, as the tide can sweep you down on the south breakwater.

Additional info: The marina is in a small basin, it is tight, so if in a larger boat, >12m, stay on the visitors pontoon on the river. The visitors pontoon is on the north side of the river. There are moorings in the river located close to the pontoon, so once between the moorings and the pontoon, there is not enough room to turn the boat. If you want to berth portside to, swing your vessel in the harbour and then back up the river. Do not go outside of the moorings, there is a shallow bank in the river, and rope lines connect all the moorings, so don't go between the mooring buoys.

There is a 50 foot "Arrival Pontoon" in the approach dock on the portside. It's fine for an overnight stay. No room to turn around so either have to reverse in or out. The high walls provide some shelter from the wind.

Reviews for Arklow Marina
Arklow Marina and Town, 2013-02-21
Captain: , Conwy, N. Wales (14080)

This harbour and marina is accessible in all states of tide. The marina is tricky to maneuver in, especially if it's busy and your boat doesn't steer well backwards! The pontoons in the river are a viable option if there's space, but avoid going to the left or up the river beyond them unless you've got some tide under you as it shoals fast. A fair walk into town (10 minutes) and not particularly pretty, but the people are generally nice and friendly.

A well sheltered marina, close to the town centre, but not much in the way of attractions, but a useful stopping over place
