Reviews for Appomattox Small Boat Harbor
Safe Harbor, good location, good floating docks and people, 2016-10-10
Captain: , Moyock, NC (984)

2016 Oct06 Hurricane Matthew - We moved our 40 ft trawler inland and up the Appomattox River south of Richmond to Colonial Heights Appomattox River Boat Harbor, with a slip depth of 11 ft, longer finger piers, 20 ft high pilings, and good condition floating wood docks.

Being inland at this location we experience 6%u201D of rain, 20 mph winds with gust to 27, (instead of 50-70 mph in Hampton Roads) and no apparent water surges (being at a head of this river)

Be aware there is sand shoaling reducing the depth at low tide to 2-1/2 to 3' for a distance of 20-60' after Vulcan Materials loading basin just before reaching this marina. Locals say to stay on the south / west side (Close to Vulcans loading basin) to have deeper water. Also just prior to the marina move to the opposite side to avoid what appeard to be an old piling and at the marina on each side of the dock stay close to the existing marina docks where boats come and go to avoid older pilings on the SW and NW land point shoals at the turn in. We draw 4 feet and there are other boats here that are a little larger and draw more depth.

We've were at this location in 2005 and again now 2016, and did not experience any problems.

After the original marina operators, a son and now a daughter keeps the marina operating. There is no office and Christa is usually not at the marina unless she is needed. The local slip holders are always more than willing to take a line or help with anything else. There is no current and usually not much wind.

They have a hydraulic boat trailer to haul boats up to 30 foot and block them on the hard. At one time some repairs were available
