Reviews for Annapolis Harbor Boat Yard
They don't stand behind their work., 2016-05-20
Captain: , Baltimore (50)

I have had work done by Engineered Marine Systems (Acquired by Annapolis Harbor) and Annapolis Harbor in the six figure range over eight years on two boats. In August 2014 work included installation of a new ice maker, a new inverter charger and a networked Raymarine system. In spite of the fact they are a "Premier" Raymarine dealer, the radar failed in less than two years due to a bad splice. The ice maker had to be fixed under warranty. The inverter failed and had to be fixed. They did not respond to any of my calls or emails. They also billed me far more time to change four engine mounts than another yard for the same job on the other engine. They do have some skilled craftsman. Some of their work was excellent.

great service, 2015-10-14
Captain: , Fort Myers beach (40)

Had a water pump issue and turned us around very quickly during the boat show! Very friendly and honest folks. Could have said it was more than what it was, had us on our way promptly. Thanks John and crew.

Better than top notch service, 2014-10-18
Captain: , Halifax NS. (382)

Took my boat in there because the alternator was squealing. I replaced the belt a few days ago. The mechanic said it was tight enough and should work if it was the right belt. I bought the boat last summer and it had several spare belts. All too narrow. Ron put on one that was the right size and I was on my way in under an hour. They could have soaked me for a new alternator but instead did waht was necessary. He also gave the engine a quick look to see if he could see anything other issues. Its all good now. OUtstanding service!!!!!

Professionally handled, 2014-10-14
Captain: , Toronto (52)

While sailing around the area waiting for the boat show, we decided to get a few things looked at...replace rusty piece of exhaust pipe, heat exchanger, tachometer and oil level dip. They handled the whole process of assessing the work, quoting, approval to proceed and completing the work to fit our timeline. During our stay on their dock, we saw their professional handling of all boats, as though they were their own. The final price was 20% less than quoted. They were a pleasure to deal with. sv BoomDeYada

Bow Thruster repairs, 2014-10-11
Captain: , Niantic, CT (77)

On our way south this fall, our Bow Thruster failed and I contacted John Norton of AHBY and explained my problem. John ordered the new thruster so it would be available when we arrived. We arrived at noon on Tuesday and by 12:30, Ron was aboard the boat and by 2:30, Ron had the thruster out and was starting to make the necessary repairs. On Wednesday Ron finnished the repairs and by 2:30 the boat was completely tested and fully operational. I can not say enough good things about John Norton, Ron, Jim and Lisa and the rest of the staff at the AHBY. All of the repairs were completed properly and much faster than I had expected and all of the work was done at a very fair price. I would recomend that you stop at AHBY if you need any type of service.

Low oil pressure problem, 2014-09-03
Captain: , NY NY (10)

Back in mid July I was headed north for the summer. On the way up the oil pressure was very slowly dropping. I pulled into Annapolis to do some site seeing, stayed at the municiple dock. Before leaving the admiral said to get it checked out.
I have cummins engines and AHBY was listed as a dealer. Called them at 9AM, the office tracked down John and he was on the boat at 9:20. We discussed the problem and both came up with the same fix.

John ordered the parts and said to bring the boat to his marina while waiting for the parts to come in (did not charge for dockage). Parts arrived the next day and were promptly installed.

Being transient and trying to get back home put us to the top of the list. I highly recommend John and his company for repair work. His pricing was more than fair. Did not ever feel I was being taken advantage of. If I ever needed repair work and was in the area I would go back again in a NY minute.

Annapolis Harbor Boat Yard, 2014-05-26
Captain: , Visalia, CA (350)

Yard appears to be in decline. Several of the key employees have left in the last year.

Subpar Gel Coat Work, 2013-12-16
Captain: , Crockett (610)

Had some warrenty gel coat work done by a young lady, that I could have done better myself.

I believe the yard is going through some management changes at the moment.

We did like the yard manager Keven M and followed up to have some other work done where he now works at Port Annapolis Boat Yard.

Great Place, 2013-09-10
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (268)

I cannot think of a more convenient location in Annapolis, however, it is the service and quality of work that make this an outstanding boat yard. Pricing is very competitive and workmanship is excellent. From work I've had on my own boat and the work I've seen done to other vessels during my visits, I would heartly recommend the Annapolis Harbot Boat Yard to any boat owner. Owner John, Mel, Andy, Mike and the rest of the crew are to be saluted for their willingness to serve the customer.

Young cruising couple had a VERY negative experience with AHBY, 2013-07-23
Captain: , Austin, Texas (10)

I hate to badmouth any small business especially as the AHBY crew was mostly great-- skilled and quite friendly as well. But we really got burned badly in the end for a mast-pulling/storing/stepping. From day one, when we were forced to deal with AHBY (forced because of our acceptance of vessel contract with the previous owner) Kevin was pushy and incapable of listening to our requests and once we made the mistake of letting him get hold of our pre-purchase survey (via our on-premesis broker) and he knew we were locked into working with AHBY it was all we could do to stop him from trying to send his guys to fix everything on the boat even though we kept trying to re-gain control of the project from him. He actually had to "unbill" us for work that started to be performed against our will because he finally agreed that we had specifically asked for AHBY NOT to do those items from the survey. They were astonishingly vague about the costs for the entire time we were there and in the end they billed us THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS for what should have been nothing but pulling the 60 foot mast, storing it for a couple of months, and re-stepping it. They claim that they had to charge us extra because the mast was harder to remove than usual (the mast step was rather corroded) but I personally watched a few workers do exactly nothing for our boat for a few hours which, months late, they decided to bill us for in full. I also had one of their guys (who, again, was great) change the four hoseclamps on our driveshaft stuffing box, and even though I watched him take 15 minutes to do it, I saw they billed the former owner (as per our contract) for TWO FULL HOURS. So watch out. I think we got it really bad because 1) We look young for our boat size 2) They assumed we have deep pockets and 3) They knew that we were splitting the costs of the work with the former owner and that he was not aware of what was actually happening in the yard. Then the owner was so aggressive and threatening when we suggested we wanted to challenge the bill that it ended up being the most upsetting and difficult experience either of us have ever had with any boatyard or maybe even any business!

Annapolis Harbor Boat Yard paying in forward, 2013-06-17
Captain: , Lynn, MA (10)

Pulled into Annapolis and immediately lost a transmission. After trying to find help all day (we knew it would be hard as Memorial Day was coming up) with no success we finally located John Norton at Annapolis Harbor Boat Yard. He has been a great help to us through a very diffucult time while broken down here in Annapolis. Have been stranded here going on 5 weeks now and during this time John has done nothing other than be of great help. Have also been privledged to see a lot of his work - some of the best we've ever seen. Now if I could only say the same for the mechanic we'd be home now. John, nothing but sincere thanks coming your way.

Continued Great Service, 2012-11-07
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (10)

We have had many projects completed by Kevin McPadden and Bill Barlow and their staff over the past 2 years at AHBY including bottom paint, washdown pump, new refrigeration, water maker installation, outboard work, solar panel installation etc. The work has always been completed in a timely fashion with an emphasis on customer satisfaction. In the instances when issues came up after a repair or install, Bill and Kevin were quick to address our concerns always with an upbeat can do attitude. We have a great deal of trust in their ability and integrity.

Succesful Major Service, 2012-09-04
Captain: , Annapolis, Maryland (10)

Just got my boat back after two weeks in this yard. Bottom paint, shaft seal repalcement, rebbeding of some ports and several other tasks were all completed with excellent results. My Bowman 48 is now back in excellent shape. I can highly recommend Annapolis harbor Boatyard!

Major problems with this marina, 2012-08-29
Captain: , Annapolis MD (70)

Brought my boat there in a hurry last year. Had a leak below the water line in my port Y exhaust pipe. They pulled the boat immediately. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. They ordered the wrong exhaust pipe from Volvo twice! Kept the boat for NINE weeks with lots of "we're getting to it" and no progress. Plus my power cord was stolen from the boat. Finally I had to have the dealer come and put the boat on a truck and transport it to their yard. They fixed it the next week. Terrible customer service and communication. Kicker: $2000+ bill for an unfixed boat.

Responsive service, 2012-06-29
Captain: , Rowayton, CT (10)

Moving north up the Chesapeake Bay, our fresh water pump failed. Kevin was able to squeeze us into their schedule at very short notice, the mechanic assigned to us was very professional, and a 'quick fix' work around was identified pending a proper repair, and we were able to continue our journey with virtually no interruption. When, subsequently, there was a small glitsch in the billing, they were quick to correct the mistake.

Great service!, 2012-05-18
Captain: , Newport (20)

Recently m/v Cordelia was a transient at the city docks when one of our starters broke down and we called AHBY for assistance. Kevin rearranged the work schenule and had Andy remove the starter. By the next afternoon we had a new starter installed and the old starter rebuilt for a spare on the way. Enjoyed our stay in Annapolis.

Outstanding Experience, 2012-05-14
Captain: , Beverly, MA (30)

Landed in Annapolis with an elusive alternator problem, and received excellent service from Kevin McFadden's crew at Annapolis Harbor Boat Yard. The response was immediate and the team all in sync to get our problem fixed. High quality, fairly-priced work by knowledgable professionals who had a genuine understanding for cruiser's needs.

A GREAT SERVICE YARD WITH SKILLED WORKERS, 2011-10-26
Captain: , Oriental, NC (1148)

Annapolis Harbor Boatyard is quality yard with great people and skills. Kevin McPhaden is the Service Manager and brings quality and skills that most boatyards do not have. He is service and people oriented and will go to the nth degree to satisfy his customers. They did a great job on my boat and I highly recommend them.

great place, 2010-09-30
Captain: , Baltimore (317)

The owner is a good friend of ours. But, they do a great job on boats. We had them do all sorts of work for us (hull, engine, woodwork) and everything has turned out great. Their goal is to do a great job and make the customer happy. You can't ask for much more. Also, you can't ask for a much better location if you need to stay in Annapolis.

They diagnosed the problem and offered several solutions, had ordered the necessary parts, ,came to my boat, pulled the pumpfixed it and reinstalled it within two hours.
