Reviews for Anchors Away Boatyard
Takes no responsibility for their own negligent behavior., 2016-09-19
Captain: , Earth (232)

We have been attempting for 3 months to get an issue of damage caused to our mast resolved without success. Chris says the people responsible say they know nothing and Tara says they do not work there anymore, but ultimately the boatyard takes no responsibility for the damage due to their negligence. Not even withholding of storage fees brought any relieve. We will be forced to pursue legal action for a resolve, very poor customer service.

After bottoming out we limped to Anchors away after a recommendation from a friend.. We are happy we did! We were met at the dock, hauled out, props and undercarriage assessed, props removed and sent off for repairs before we even made the walk up to the office!! Excellent service, great customer care and very friendly staff. Also picked up a marine Battery from the shop next door for the generator. Guys stayed after hours on a Friday evening to make sure is was back in the water before they closed for the weekend.

Would rate the staff and service at 5 stars, the 4 star rating is simply for the lack of nearby provisions.

Fast Turnaround to Get You Back on the Water, 2015-06-08
Captain: , Lake Erie (148)

We hit a submerged piling and totaled our starboard prop. We feared much more. We limped to Anchors Away after it was recommended to us by Marine Max in Wrightsville Beach. Sammy met us at the liftout and took great care in pulling us out correctly. After assessing the damage, we were blocked on the hard for 48 hours. They were careful to check our rudder, shaft, cutless bearings and transmission mounts. Our props went to the shop on Tuesday and were back on Wednesday. We were in the water without delay. Chris (the yard manager), Tara (the receptionist AND AwlGrip specialist!) and Sammy (maintenance and lift operator) all work together to get evey need taken care of in a timely manner.

Anchors Away review, 2015-04-01
Captain: , Santa Barbara (10)

I was towed in there by another sailboat after my deilel engine had died. The tow craft cut me loose in bad wind and sea conditions. I was able to start my engine brieflt and the marina's crew helped me at the dock to secure my boat safely. They put her on the hard and stored her for a few months until I had her shipped down to Florida. Tara, Chris and the whole crew were wonderful. I would not hesiitate to use them again if I was in the area.

Friendly and accomodating staff, reasonable rates, excellent work.

Came in for an emergency haulout to fix running gear, ended up with new bottom paint as well. Quick work right through the holidays.

Thank you Tara, Jesse, Sammy and Chris!

I decide to take advantage of free Haulout. Upon Inspection of the bottom, the condition was good. I wanted adress a few rust spots on my steel keel but ended up asking the yard to paint whole bottom as Chris was very flexible in pricing and even gave me epoxy paint for my preparation prior to the bottom paint.
Sammy was such a nice and hard worker. He did very good job for sanding and painting and gave a good attention for such a detail like painting speed sensor, prop, engine cooling water inlet properly. Moreover he came out extra early for me to launch the boat to make next destination. Thank you,Tara, for your kindness and cordination of all these.

There when we needed them!!! Thank you Ron, Chris, Jess and Sammy and the rest of the staff. You were invaluable and accomodating when we needed you most. 2 and a half years, I only wish you were closer to home (Florida) or I'd still be there.

Just took advantage of the "Free" haul special for a fast haul, wash, and bottom job. Staff were great, folks very helpful. Paid exactly what was quoted up front (storage, and pressure wash fee). Would recommend, and will use again.

I would definetly come here again, 2013-08-01

We ran into some difficulties on our last trip to Myrtly Beach. We ran into a submerged tank at marker 63 going through Camp Lejume. Bent the prop and the shaft. Then heading that way we lost our hydraulic system and had no steering. Call Boat US for a tow, they called ahead to Anchors Away to be ready for us. And they were, we hauled immediately. This was on a late Monday night. Ron had already set up for a hydralics guy, Specialized Mechanical, Willmington, NC, to come on Tuesday morning. Showed up at 9am and by 11 he was done with a new copper line and bleed the system. That afternoon we started the props to find the shaft was also bend. I had a spare shaft, so we started to change that out and two hours later it was done. I decided to replaced the cutlass bearng at the same time so they ordered one it came in on Wednesday, put it in and launched late Wednesday. They also let me assist to speed things up and save some money to boot. WOW two day turn, with new props and new shaft and cutlass bearing and hydraulics system repair. While walking around the yard I looked at their bottom paint jobs and other things they were doing and it was all top notch. I would not hesistate to recommend them or use them again on any work my vessel needs. We have a 1979, 48 Hatteras LRC.
All the staff were friendly and willing to help in anyway to get us on our way. It was the best boatyard experience I have had in my 10+ years of boating.

Free Haul Out IS Free, 2013-04-15
Captain: , New Zealand (10)

Last year I needed a place to do some work on a boat that I had just bought. I was attracted by the "Free" haul out if you stay a month. It worked perfectly and Ron and Chris were very helpful. I knew exactly what I was paying for at the start, and that is what they charged me. Great place. I have since returned there to store my boat over winter.

Very basic place. They do good work. Dont plan on staying there long. For the price its a deal, just dont expect to stay with your boat long as personal hygene will be an issue.

Captain: , british virgin island (20)

Had my 55 foot boat 6 six month stored in aaby and had no problems. Free haulout was one of the reasons to come at first but also besides this it was a very good experience. In the meantime the haulout termes changed a little bit but 250 us per month storage is still a very good reason to consider this place. I have not done any work on my boat in this yard but I saw some very nice paint jobs done.
All the best to chris and his crew

it s everything they say it is and more., 2012-11-24

Beware of the free haul out, 2012-09-13
Captain: , The Great Loop (20)

We spent almost a year at Anchor's Away and would readily admit that Benito is as good as it gets when it comes to painting, and Jesse is great with hauls, etc. But be very careful when dealing with Chris or Ron about money. It is our opinion ( and other's as well) that they prey on transients with the free haul out offer.

Most people do not realize that there are two boatyards at this location. We moved to the second yard, The Boatyard at Hampstead(phone 910.270.2194), because of irreconcilable differences with Anchors Away and found numerous people at the new yard with similiar experiences as us. From what we can see, most locals use The Boatyard at Hampstead because their prices are much better and the people are better to deal with. As a matter of fact, one local shrimp boat captain referred to Anchor's Away as "Grab your Ankles Boatyard".

Gerald and Pam run The Boatyard at Hampstead and are absolutely wonderful, customer-focused people and Danny and John do comparable work to Benito and Jesse (at Anchor's Away) for much less money. One example of price: Anchors's Away charges $70 per hour for yardwork and The Boatyard at Hampstead charges $45 per hour.

We are planning to put our boat, PHASE II, overboard around November 20th after almost two years at these yards and can certainly give you much more information if you are interested. Feel free to call us at 330.307.4933 (Dave) or 330.219.4827(Lori).

I have had two major boat restorations done at Anchors Away.... 1st, 40' power boat, and 2nd, 28' sail boat. Both experiences were very satisfactory.... not cheap, but first class work.... in fact, my sail boat is there now during hurricane season. Thanks, Chris, Bonito, Bill, and Margie. Hap Alexander
