Reviews for Anchorage Marina
Quite a let down, 2015-06-16
Captain: , Essington, PA (85)

This marina offers almost no frills, just the basics: floating docks, electric/water service, a self-service gasoline pump (but no diesel), restrooms with showers, bagged ice for sale, and nothing else. However, even those few basics seem to get little maintenance. The docks look and feel unstable, and most have very worn out wooden surfaces which get replaced one 2x4 at a time. The launch well and bulkhead have shoaled into a marsh. The pumpout is unreachable due to said shoaling, and doesn't work anyway. The restrooms look dirty and cramped.

Getting in and out of the slips is difficult for sailboats whenever the current picks up, which is almost all of the time. The space between docks is small enough that boats larger than 25' would do better to wait for a slack tide or stay outside, otherwise they risk hitting the slips and/or other boats. Since the docks do not have wavebreakers, there's little difference in current between inside and out.

Yes, the marina lies at the end of PHL's runway 9R/27L; the approach lights are clearly visible from the docks. Yes, the aircraft can get loud, usually on approach when the wind comes from the north or east. Some people like it, some don't; take your pick.

Do it yourself place, 2013-06-29

Decent marina, friendly staff if you can find them. You may have to chase them down to get settled in. Bathrooms are clean but small.
Only 4 miles from airport but taxi service is peculiar, must be some turf issue between the counties.

Decent secure marina, 2012-06-18

Anchorage Marina is nothing except a decent place to tie up for a reasonable price -- in an area where no one else is offering comparable facilities. It is a family run marina with secure card accessed docks. There are some real characters at Anchorage, but everyone seems to give one another enough space that it doesn't matter. The planes are loud - but often enjoyable to watch too. The current races so you need to pick you times coming in and going out. All in all a decent inexpensive facvility just 15 mins from downtown Philadelphia.

self serve gas, 2011-12-02
Captain: , Cape May, NJ (87)

I'm working on a survey boat in the Delaware River. We're using a small boat to shuttle crew in and out of Essington, Pa. Fueling that boat posed a real problem considering the time of year (DEC.). I was surprised to find a 24/7 self serve fuel dock at this marina, even if the cost was a little high ($4.249 per gl). All you need is a Credit Card, the max purchase allowed was $150.00 which came out to 35.3 gals. There was an emergency fuel cut off that I hoped worked if I needed it!!!

Strong current runs through the marina., 2011-07-06
Captain: , Beach haven NJ (510)

It is sometimes difficult to dock in any of the marinas along this shoeline depending on the current. Also depending on the wind direction these marinas can be directly below the flight path of landing aircraft at the Philadelphia airport. If you like watching planes land this is a graet palce to do it.

Fine functional marina, 2010-06-23
Captain: , Herald Harbor, Maryland (126)

The first thing to be aware of, which is obvious from the chart, is that the marina is at the end of the runway for the Philadelphia airport. The planes are loud enough to stop conversation. The planes stopped about 11:00 pm and started up about 5:30 am while we were there.
The second thing to be aware of is that there is little to no protection from the current in the marina. However, the floating docks are in good shape so it is easy to prepare for the changing current.
There are no real amenities at the marina. It does not appear that they get many transients. I found it difficult to find anyone employed by the marina. However, on the summer weekend we were there was plenty of activity. The people are friendly and answered all the questions we had.
