Reviews for Albany Yacht Club
monday might at ayc, 2017-09-22
Captain: , New Baltimore Ny (31)

Dock master was very nice, quick to answer on the radio checked to see if i needed fuel then directed me to my slip where he was wating for me to catch a line. The Docks are nice wide floaters. There is places to walk nearby although we didnt walk anywhere had lunch delivered and took an Uber over the bridge for dinner. Being a monday it was quiet early in the day but we met several members that eveing who were all welcoming. One AYC member even took some pictures of my girlfreind and i before we left for dinner. The ship store was stocked and the bathrooms were clean. Great stop.

Albany YC!!, 2017-06-13
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (120)

Great place for fuel & dockage. "Ron" the dockmaster is very accommodating and helpfull. Nice ships store. Walking distance to stores!!
Captain Steve Sharkey

Nice folks, very accommidating, 2017-06-10
Captain: , Winter Garden, Fl (2391)

We stayed for a week - a little high on the rates, but fairly competitive for the area. The locks were closed so there was a glut of boats on the river - the marina made room for as many as they could and were very helpful.

Tom took great care of us, 2016-09-26
Captain: , La Crosse, WI (941)

We purchased diesel fuel and stayed for one night. We were lucky and ate at the yacht club- they were serving Italian family style all made by the members and it was great!! Members invited us to their table. Really nice people. Restrooms and showers were clean. I would highly recommend them. Call for availability due to their one of the few who can take 100 plus foot boats- which means no room for smaller boats.

We spent a night at Albany Yacht Club late August and are 99.9% positive my husbands email was hacked. No details needed but person who hacked knew we were in Albany and had boating interest. When my husband called the Yacht Club to let them know we thought there might be an issue with their open wifi my husband spoke to the dock master who passed the phone onto a previous commodore who proceeded to get very defensive. So if you should stop there do NOT use their Wifi., 2016-08-28
Captain: , Vero Beach, Fl (30)

We spent a night at the Albany Yacht Club in late August. Within 12 hours my husband discovered that his email had been hacked. Going into details would be a long story but the person who wrote the emails in my husbands name from his email account knew we were in Albany and knew we had boating interests. When my husband called to inform the Yacht Club of the issue he spoke to the dockmaster who then passed the phone to a previous commodore who became very defensive. Could this have been an employee, or someone sitting in the parking lot that accessed the wifi??? Who knows, but if you should stop there we suggest you do NOT use their open wifi.

Great dock master, 2016-08-27
Captain: , Boulder, CO (60)

We enjoyed our stay on Aug. 23. Tom the dockmaster was very helpful from our first phone contact. He went out of his way by helping us dock, explaining the canal pass, keeping the laundry room clean & cool,& reminding us of Wed. happy hour & Fri. Steak & lobster ($26).
After 20 years of cruising, Tom was the best!

Nice place to stop, 2016-06-21
Captain: , Bedford, NH (775)

We stopped on June 20, 2016 for one night. Very easy stop. Dock staff and slip residents very friendly. Docks are in great condition and the facilities are nice. Enterprise Car Rental a short distance but can't really walk. They will pick you up.
Note: Pump Out not working. Said both motors were dead but were out for repair and it would be in a couple of days.
We would stop here again.

Nice docks and people., 2016-05-31
Captain: , Fort Myers (700)

good docks. 35 buck taxi to airport. easy in and out.

Good stop in or out of Erie Canal System, 2016-05-06
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

Stop here to make boat ready for Erie Canal. Nice people, good facility. Right on the river and far enough north there is not much traffic. Good power and good dock rate, discount for Boat US.

5-18,19,20, 2014 Canal not open stayed here 3 nights. Comments same.

5-22-15 here again, good stop, water depth 20' at dock, easy in & out, staff is very cordial.

Nice Location, 2015-09-08
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (986)

Had a very nice two day visit. Marina is a little old but well kept. Recommend you stop before or after the Erie Canal....

Brief but comfortable stay, 2015-09-07
Captain: , St Paul, MN (180)

Tom (Dockmaster?) could not have been more helpful with docking and information and acvice for first-time boaters anticipating the NY Canal.
Docks, power, showers fit the bill very satisfactorly. We walked about 10 minutes to a competent Italian restaurant .
Would definitely stay there again.

Nice place with plenty to do, 2015-08-16
Captain: , Lindenhurst, NY (30)

The marina is nice, there is internet, the bathrooms and showers are extremely clean and cozy. There is a supermarket and drug store in walking distance. Across the bridge, it's not a bad walk, into the capitol district there is a lot to do. The battleship is also fun to do.

OK stop; exposed to wind & current conditions in the river., 2015-07-13
Captain: , Pasadena, MD (1496)

The docks are in the river, parallel to shore. The particular combination of wind and tidal current can make docking and/or departure challenging! Floating docks and shore power are found in good condition (July, 2015). This is a club, so facilites are somewhat limited. Rest rooms and showers have towels, soap and lotion; laundry is limited. Walking access to local facilities and restaurants is limited. Wi-Fi is available, but slow. The dockmaster office has NYS Canal System Cruising Guides and Canal passes available for purchase. Ron, the dockmaster, is very hepful and accommodating. Excellent stay in calm conditions; not so much, perhaps, in storm conditions!

Great help for our sailboat, 2015-07-02
Captain: , Tonawanda,NY (261)

Had our mast acrossed the deck when a power boat gave us a four foot wake that brought the mast down. Pulled into the yacth club and they helped us get the mast back in place.

probably pass in the future., 2015-06-28
Captain: , Falmouth, Maine (176)

Current is strong and people were rude.

Not our type of place, 2015-06-27
Captain: , Atlanta (770)

Stayed here a couple of nights and left the boat for a week while we traveled back home (6/15-25/15). Weekly rate only applied to 7 days, had to pay daily rate for other 3 days (which seems kind of petty). The location is terrible for getting around - we walked around the area in Rensalaer- most buildings shuttered - very depressed. Cannot walk into Albany - had to take taxi. We used Yankee Doodle taxi (owned by a yacht club member(?)) - they were prompt and nice, but one car did not have seat belts, the A/C was broken in another, and seemed generally in need of repair/refurbishment/replacement.

Marina was secure and felt safe. There was only one bathroom for each sex, one washer/dryer. For an overnight stop and for leaving the boat, it was OK, but location for getting off boat, going to restaurants, etc. was terrible.

Great Spot But Highway Construction is LOUD, 2015-05-19
Captain: , Seattle Wa (200)

Ron and Tom were both very helpful during our five day stay here doing a few smalll jobs on the boat. Members are friendly and they have dinner on Wednesday and Friday nights. Right now a HUGE highway project across the river is very loud all night long. Otherwise this is probably a four star

I think my ratings are tougher than some peoples. Here are my rating guidelines - - 1 star - Lousy, skip this one- 2 star - Not terrible but I wouldn't come back- 3 star - Nice, I liked it overall and would return- 4 star - Great experience including facilities, management and setting- 5 star - Spectacular everything (there aren't many of these)

tricky spot to dock with tide, 2014-10-15
Captain: , Burlington VT (20)

They have a 5' tide. Do not even think about trying to dock on a inside finger if the tide is coming in. It can be over 5 nts. If you can't get on the outside don't try. Friday was very loud with police sirens all night. They do have a nice club open a couple a nights

Great Stop, 2014-10-01
Captain: , Fort Monroe, VA (949)

Ron greeted us and settled us in quickly. Provided map for immediate area. Although local road is very near marina, spent quiet night. Good location for short jump north to Watertown or longer day south bound to Kingston. Showers and heads were easy walk and clean. Would stay here again.

Great fuel up, 2014-09-07
Captain: , Grand Haven (470)

The fuel docks are easy access with a 10 cent discount for boat U.S.
menbers. Clean showers and small boat store. Bar adjacent to the ship store. Great resturant a short walk of 1/2 mile

Solid facility with welcoming staff, 2014-08-16
Captain: , Rochester, NY (200)

We stayed three nights due to weather which was longer than we would recommend due to limited shopping and restaurants nearby but, having said that, the staff was super helpful and the club is well kept and well run. Wifi was strong and cable TV was available. Don't hesitate to stop here.

great stop friendly dockmaster, 2014-08-01
Captain: , West shore Marlboro NY (825)

great stop, fuel prices are reasonable dockmasters very helpful got us tied up and gave us the quick tour of the facilities showers internet and local
places to eat and take out places that deliver

Excellent Facility, 2014-06-25
Captain: , Tarpon Springs (983)

We found the club very welcoming, and we took advantage of the the Friday night dinner there. It was both good value and even better food. Pump out and refueling were efficiently done, and the dock hands were polite and helpful. Couldn't ask for more.

A bit snobby, 2014-06-07
Captain: , catskill (290)

If your not a member they are a bit snobby to deal with. The mooring rate is very high for the area if your not a member.

Excellent facilites, 2013-09-23
Captain: , Wicomico Church (610)

Helpful and friendly staff; clean restrooms; CATV and Wifi; good fuel prices.. but not much by way of attractions nearby

Friendly hosts - inexpensive fuel, 2013-09-01
Captain: , Rhode Island (106)

Stayed here for a month while we were repairing our boat. They are very relaxed and will meet you at the dock to help you tie up. The fuel dock is extremely easy to access. It is easier to get hold of them via VHF than phone. Wednesday nights they have happy hour. Friday nights they have dinners.

Albany Yacht Club, 2013-07-30
Captain: , Montreal (329)

Dock master was waiting at dock, very helpful and freindly bathrooms/showers pretty clean. it was our 1st trip through the locks also and the dockmaster was very helpful with the information he provided. Be careful with the taxi's when you call they say it's 10$ from the Albany Yacht Club to Pearl St. near Legend's finally to say it's 14 or 12$ so you might pay a 2$ extra for the cab and the driving is fast.
if your looking for a good restaurent The Capital is the place to go, just opened last week and for a food lover this is good.
Not too expensive, just perfect on all aspects. Missing a few Italian wines but the Boss said He will look in too it. THE CAPITAL 55 N Pearl St., Albany 12207
Cheers Everybody

Great Place to Stay, 2013-07-13
Captain: , Monticello, IN (140)

Stayed there on our way up the Hudson in July and it was a great experience. Members and staff were very friendly and helpful, and fuel was not expensive. We happened to stay there on a Friday night and they served a great meal.

Amazing staff and members!!!, 2013-07-11
Captain: , Bluffton, South Carolina (327)

We planned on staying one night and, due to the Erie Canal closures we were "stuck" here for 31 days! First, the basics ... Nice floating docks, gas and diesel at reasonable prices, pump out at your boat. Cannot speak to the restrooms and showers as we didn't use them. Cable TV available. Pet friendly. Both Enterprise and Hertz will bring rental cars to the boat, and they can be returned to the Rennselear train station a 20 minute walk away. Albany and Rensellear have everything you want from a metropolitan area.

Beyond the basics ... Dockmasters Ron and Tom are fantastic. Know there business and are on top of all the issues. The Yacht Club members were unbelievable! We had 10 or so "Loopers" marooned there, and the members took us all in as if we were permanent. Even had a roast beef dinner for the stranded transients. They have a happy hour a couple of nights a week and transients are invited. Sean and Jason head up the membership and they were superb hoasts. During the month we were there we had several mechanical issues with our boat that were taken care of by responsive and local technicians made available to us by the Club.

What a great experience! We will be back, and recommend the AYC highly!

They treat you like a club member., 2013-05-23
Captain: , Buffalo (832)

We had to leave BTS for a four days while we caught a train to Buffalo. Easy in and out. we met a woman we named cousin Joy that even made it easier. The Commodore helped us fuel up and pump out. We bought a seven day stay, but decided to move on when the weather was right.

Great everything!, 2013-03-17
Captain: , North Palm Beach Marina, FL (43)

Very convenient- Great docks and clubhouse One of the members drove us to a store. Everyone there is incredibly friendly!

Very helpful staff, 2013-03-02
Captain: , Montreal (254)

Stopped off for a night before entering the NY canal system. Staff could not have been more helpful, both in getting supplies and obtaining the necessary permit.
Even provided tools, etc., to help lower the mast.
Rensselaer isn't much to write home about, but the club more than made up for it.

Convenient stop - Services available, 2012-07-31
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (465)

Diesel, gas, water, pump out all available at gas dock. Dockhands attentive and helpful. Showers and heads in building adjacent to dock. They have significantly improved and reengineered floating dock anchor system after lessons learned in 2011.
Discount for boat US is $1.25 per foot vs $2. $8.95 for 50 amp. $5 for pump out.

visited once, 2012-06-27
Captain: , Marlboro Yacht Club, Marlboro NY (515)

stayed once since we have a recipricol agreement. we were treated nice

A Great place to dock, 2012-06-17
Captain: , prospect, ky (415)

I left my boat (GB42) here for two weeks while I went home to take care of bussiness; returned to find it all well. Very nice folks here! Stores and restaurants all in walking distance.

Good place to stop, 2012-06-17
Captain: , Savannah (128)

Spent 3 nights here. Shower facilities are adequate and clean. Docks appear to have had some significant work done to them. The water system was not complete and we did not have water at our slip. Great staff, good location, many restaurants, drug stores, and other facilities nearby. We liked the stop. Dockage price was good for the area.

Friendly Group, 2012-06-10
Captain: , santa barbara (771)

Helpful dockmaster - assisted with cruising permits, had no fuel when we were there, but recommended next best location (Schenectady Yc).

Very good marina, 2011-08-19
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (680)
