Celebrating Furuno

>>> Celebrating Furuno >>>

There are times when we have to just sit back and enjoy the moment. This is one of those times and we wanted to take a minute to make a quick mention of it.

Last week, Furuno showed their latest version of NavNet TZTouch2 at the Ft Lauderdale International Boat Show. This version has ActiveCaptain fully integrated into their chartplotter hardware product line. You can even write a review with the on-screen keyboard.

This is a major milestone. It demonstrates a few key elements about what the ActiveCaptain community has become:

- There are a quarter million users.

- The data outside North America has reached the level of quality and quantity needed to provide great local knowledge information everywhere.

The North American segment of the chartplotter market is about 50% of the worldwide market size. Chartplotter manufacturers will only put something like ActiveCaptain into their hardware when it is global in scope. It has taken some time to get there, but we're there and will now start building on the international use.

We're far from done. We'll continue to provide new ways of sharing the experience each of us has. We all know how this makes boating safer and more enjoyable. Together, with all of you, we'll have many more enjoyable moments like this.

Furuno will be showing the new capabilities at next week's METS show in Amsterdam. You can also learn more and see some real screen shots at:

Remember - Defender 1st: one product, one week, one incredible price.

When you're thinking about purchasing boating supplies, think of Defender first.

Dylan and Dee Dee have moved on from Savannah and settled into Brunswick Landing Marina in Georgia. They've already met up with Mercy and Mocha, a yellow and a chocolate lab that they spent time with this past summer in Castine. We're docked between the marina office and the fuel dock so there's always something to keep the crew occupied. Make sure to visit them on their blog:
